#I'm not here yet on my rewatch but I just saw a gif of Emily in this scene
The "care" and "heart" themes - all of these little connections have to go somewhere...
Because I'm me and apparently I just can't get this show off of my mind right now (currently trying to write something related so I've been watching and rewatching certain scenes) I just gotta put my thoughts down on paper so to speak (and this was the post I mentioned in my previous notes):
So there seems to be a "care" undercurrent there between Beau and Cassie. As she gets more and more involved in the BHK case, we keep seeing little things. And mind you, they are little but they're there all the same. And I just have to talk about them.
Like in 3x03, as Beau leaves the office, he tells both Cassie and Denise to be careful when going on their hike the following morning. The same two that have their office broken into where Beau reassures Denise and Jenny checks in with Cassie because both are affected in different ways about it. Due to the case that Cassie and Denise are both actively investigating, that Denise has a personal connection to (and so does Cassie through Cormac, in a very roundabout way because it all comes back to Walt and the story he told Paige).
In 3x05, when Beau and Jenny leave to investigate a homicide in Fort Harrison, Beau tells Cassie to be careful. Nothing right? Just something someone says. I say it all the time to people I care about, no matter the relationship. But then when we go back to 3x02, what do we see? As a housewarming gift, Beau gives Cassie bread and salt. We all know the salt was meant to be an obvious SPN Easter egg, but the bread... And what are the lines of dialogue we get? "So you never go hungry and you're always protected." "Oh, from demons." Giving bread and salt can be traditional (x) and the salt makes sense for the Easter egg purposes but why was Beau made to give her the bread or the more traditional housewarming gift (other than the salt I mean) and Jenny gave her the tequila aka fun? And while yes, we know that salt is considered a protection of sorts in the SPN world, we also know it's not just from demons.
Which then reminds me that Cassie looked to be almost in a bind in 3x07 (that Beau and Jenny then ride in to "save" her from) and she has been the one (besides Denise and Emily) closest to danger so far when it comes to the BHK case/Sunny's whole story line. While Cormac may not be dangerous (I still want to know why he kept Emily's knife though and still hasn't said a word, we see in the beginning of the season that her name is very clearly printed on the knife), Sunny, Buck, and Walt most certainly are. And she has now repeatedly come up against Sunny, she was the one who ran into Walt and almost got hurt for it (and she had Denise with her I might add), and recently we saw her questioning Buck about the burnt truck. So looking back at the salt, it really doesn't seem just to be there for an SPN Easter egg's sake.
We don't see Beau and Cassie interact in the D&H office after the break-in but we do see them interacting with Jenny in the Sheriff's office scene. Beau and Jenny leave to talk to Cobb and Beau tells Cassie not to go alone when following up on a lead.
We also see later on in the same episode when Cassie is dealing with Del Lucan, Beau and Jenny rush to get to her and both of them are worried about her. I already broke it down here on what I think they were trying to show with that scene but when mixed in with the rest of all of this, it does make you wonder what exactly they're trying to tell us, the audience. Will Cassie be the main one in danger yet again this season? Should we be worried about her more than normal? And what is the Denise, Emily, and Beau connection?
Especially when we look at how in 3x04, Cassie loves riding on an ATV and she tells Cormac the story of how when she was three, she used to ride a three-wheeler to the market until her dad found out how easily it could tip over. Then in 3x05, we have Beau looking at a bike to get for Emily that he knows Carla won't like because of safety but that Emily will love. We get that whole father/daughter connection (the same season Cassie purchases the ranch that was her dad's dream, and where we also see Emily and Cassie very briefly meet). We even end up seeing Beau riding a bike himself in pursuit of a suspect later on in the episode.
So you have Denise who has a personal connection to the BHK case and who essentially set Cassie on it by telling her about it. Denise who was with her hiking in 3x03 because she didn't want her going alone (but abstained from going in 3x02 but told Cassie to call Jenny or "Beau-Beau" to go & we know who Cassie chose to call). Denise who unknowingly saved her from Walt who intended on killing her. Denise who walked in on the break-in and was then comforted by Beau because she was shaken up, though she stays behind when Cassie, Jenny, and Beau go to the Sheriff's station.
Then you have Emily. Emily who is Beau's daughter and arguably his heart for obvious reasons. Cassie not only was the first out of the two leads to meet her briefly but the couple of times Beau has spoken of Emily, he tends to listen to Cassie when she gives him advice (in 3x03) no matter how much he might not like it, and she doesn't try to deter him from doing what he wants to do about Emily. He's worried and wants to check in with a text? She stays quiet and lets him do his thing. He wants to go "spy" on his daughter? While she makes sure to let him know she can see through him and that bs, she goes along and doesn't say anything else. Not to mention we also have the whole father/daughter connection discussed above.
Which is why it was so surprising to me that Jenny was the one to notice both Denise and Cassie needed comforting and she picked Cassie to do that with in 3x07 (other than them being the two leads and their obvious history) but now looking at all of this as well as the next part, it all makes sense (as to why they had Jenny be the one in this scene).
In 3x05, we see Beau and Jenny have their first hug, which seems to affect Jenny tremendously. This is following that 3x04 moment where he turns her around to shoot Scott who is advancing on them, and how Beau doing this action affects her then, too.
So now, in this moment of the break-in, Beau hugs Denise. Both hugs are meant to be comfort and reassurance. Beau hugs Jenny because he sees how upset and worried she is about Poppernak; he hugs Denise because she's upset and worried about the break-in. So imho it's odd that we haven't seen a comforting/reassuring hug between Cassie and Beau yet (though that may be coming in later episodes), especially considering that the show has made sure to emphasize their closeness as friends, and we've seen Cassie reassuring Beau (in 3x01) but we haven't seen that really returned yet. And especially since Cassie appears to be in danger half the time and the one moment she looks like she needs reassurance, it's not only Jenny who notices but also Jenny who steps in to do it. (again, I get it and I'm not knocking it; it was nice to see that relationship come to the forefront again)
So that makes me wonder about Cassie's placement in this whole story in regards to the Bleeding Heart trail. (and "bleeding heart" aka love aka possibly a breaking heart) She's the one to find the heart on the figurine on Mark's body. She's the one to come across Walt before anyone else, including Paige and Donno, which also has her in Sunny's crosshairs (besides the repeated investigating). She's one of the ones who found carved hearts on the trees and the one to find a freshly carved one near the burning truck. She's also the one to bring that to Beau and Jenny's attention, telling them that she's been mapping them out. She's the one that went with Denise to look at one of the marks to find evidence at the tree but also be begged by Del to help his daughter's case (another father/daughter connection btw). On the same trail Emily also stumbled onto. And the only times we've seen Beau attempt to be in direct contact with Emily, Cassie is usually around. (yes, Jenny is there, too, but Cassie is actually the one who saw him with Emily, though I'm sure Jenny and Emily will meet next episode if the promo is any indication, & Cassie is the one who appears to think it endearing that he talks about Emily all the time based on the 3x01 dialogue between her and Jenny; the same dialogue that shows that Jenny is more interested in what happened with Beau's ex & Beau)
And that doesn't even begin to get into the whole Luke and Paige business that really has me wondering what their connection is to Cassie's story line (other than the obvious things). There was no reason to throw in a moment where Luke got jealous of Paige flirting with Cormac, and Paige purposely doing it to make him jealous. Especially since now Mary's death is being blamed on Luke (sort of like Blaire with Joe btw). Cormac, the guy that Cassie is supposedly into, where Beau told her "take your time" (but the show made sure that we saw Beau clocking the moment between Cassie and Cormac in 3x02 which was awkwardly obvious), Jenny says they're going to want details (which we don't see Cassie smiling wide then at the teasing for some reason), and Denise (who sees Cassie smiling wide). I would have said that maybe Paige and Luke might have held parallels for upcoming Beau/Carla stuff but Cormac's involvement is what's throwing me on that whole thing and making me question. Especially since the 3x02 scene where again we see in a very obvious way that Cassie notices Cormac who smiles at her and we see Beau noticing but not reacting, and we aren't shown Sunny or Buck noticing or reacting who are also there with them.
So tl;dr: I have no idea what's coming down the pipe and I'm not saying all of this necessarily means anything romantic between Beau and Cassie. But they do have his story (through Emily's involvement) heavily intertwined with not only Sunny's but Cassie's. His sheriff story is intertwined with Jenny's (which makes sense for obvious reasons) but the whole backdrop is Cassie's. So that makes me wonder just what it is that they're going to be shooting for here. Is it for Cassie's character/story development because Beau is technically a side character? Is it because Cassie is still grieving and processing what happened with her dad? (and that is technically how she and Beau met back in 2x18) Or does it mean we should be worried for Cassie even more in this season? Or does it mean something else entirely?
As for Beau's endgame, if I had to take a guess I would say that he's going to end up back with Emily and Carla (as where it stands right now I mean) and possibly either move back to Texas or somewhere new to start over. The reason I say that is because Jensen is done with filming and if they were going to kill Beau off, I highly doubt that #1) they would have Emily, Avery, and Carla featured so heavily (as well as showing us how shady Avery is) for him only to die in the end & #2) they wouldn't have the "slow burn" with him and Jenny going on only for him to end up dead. That would be horrible to do to Emily whose story has been shown every single episode of this season, and also horrible to do to Jenny considering she's been through that once already in the show (not to mention in her case, that would be bad writing and set her character development back). And while we know Jenny's feelings for Beau have been developing, she was the one who kept mentioning Beau was temporary (2x18, 3x01) and even joked he should go back to Houston (3x03). So it would make sense if that was his endgame or something very close to it.
But Cassie? I'm still not sure what to think. I was frustrated in the beginning when she was relegated to the background, being that she's the main character, but now...I don't know, I'm just worried for her (while being glad that she's coming back into the foreground where she belongs).
I know these writers aren't always the best (they had that reputation before I ever saw the show), but there has to be something to this. It's just too many little things that look like they're adding up to a big something. What that something is though...we'll just have to wait and see.
