I wanted to do some head-cannons of the three boys and my oc's for each of them. Their own lore, my own happiness. I love the idea of love, especially theirs.

also you can add chrysalises to the list of bugs i've eaten. they did not tell me chrysalises of What, just that they were chrysalises of some Vague Unknown Bug, but I sure did eat a bunch of them

Well, it's like I knew. Not hard to guess, really.

Gather round, Citytv (for this exercise we are pretending that they want to learn) and Hudson and Rex folks, because I'm about to tell you what you need to show in a season premiere. Now, you may think that because I've never done tv in my life I'm not qualified to give that advice, but as an audience I've consumed tons of it, and sadly for you, 90% of it were crime shows. And since I don't see anyone from either Citytv or Hudson and Rex knowing what you need to show in a premiere either (like, in any season), let me be the one to tell you.

DO:

Have action packed episodes. Chases, runs, car chases, fires, shootings, terrorists (in St. John's? Well, people are crazy), general mayhem and chaos. It's a crime show. I mean, I don't expect them to happen all at the same time, but from what I saw in the season promo, some of these do happen in later episodes. Were there any shots from the premiere included in the season promo, by the way? Because that was actually action packed.

Have your characters display emotions! Which also makes your actors show that they are indeed actors. These are the kind of episodes that make me reconsider my entire stance on AI.

Set up a season arc. Plant tidbits that will lead somewhere eventually. Revolutionary idea, I know.

Show character bonds. It doesn't have to be Charah. Charlie's "Here comes the team" or something like that is followed by an episode of how much not like a team they operate. Singular and isolated. Absurd. And while in the final scene, they seem to be all boarding the ship, in the end we only see Charlie and Rex in the shot?

DO NOT:

Make the episode a "Visit Newfoundland" spot. No one cares to see that in the season premiere. It's a nice place and if I could throw that much money on a single trip, I'd be there in an instant, but put it somewhere other than the premiere that we've been expecting for more than five months.

Make your episode vastly different from what the rest of the season is going to be like. Unless this is meant to warn me that we're going to spend the rest of the season on a boat searching for missing people. That's a general issue with this show's premiere episodes, and I'm struggling to understand why they do it. It sets up false expectations for the entire season.

Neglect your characters in the first fucking episode of the season. I think the whales had more sreentime than Sarah. Also, I'd love to know what happened to Karma, although understandably, that wasn't an episode where you had to involved a coroner.

Now, I'm unsure of this, so I apologize if I'm wrong, but I think they even used shots of Charlie from S3 for the shots where he comes out of the water. If you have him wearing the diver suit, have him dive. If he doesn't want to dive or the water is like five degrees, don't replace that with old shots. Just do something different.

Anyway, I feel that while a lot of things they did fell flat, that doesn't really discourage me from watching the rest of the season because they've always pulled this kind of shit in the premiere. In a show like Hudson and Rex, you just have to weigh the good and bad episodes in the end and only from that you can conclude whether it was a good or bad season. They are all single episodes after all, it's not like you can judge whether an arc is good or bad because there's usually no arc.

Biggest win: I spent a bit of time whining about it, so I'll just say that Charlie's hair is fine. For now lol. I still don't get what the hell they did to him in the promo photos. Citytv, I've got a few upscalers and editing software to recommend to you.

#hudson and rex #to be fair as soon as I saw whales in the summary I knew this was going to be a mediocre premiere #and also because their premieres are usually like that #but I just kept out hope #eh what can you do (aside from wait for the next episode which seems better lol)#and since this isn't a very positive post I'll just remind people #that the original rex was one of my favorite shows #so it's not like I'm whining because charlie and rex were the focal point of the episode (I know this is the show)#but it's like getting a good chicken and throwing it in the oven on its own #no spice no other ingredients at all #in the end all it can be is a good chicken #and I'm sorry to say this but this chicken was a bit charred on the edges too #sorry for that metaphor lol I'm just hungry

in an unexpected turn of events i'm having to edit down the content in my aubrey monologues so that i can actually fit all four of them in my final performance for my standup class and on the one hand it sucks bc i really love some of the jokes i have to cut but on the other hand someday i'll be able to write more monologues and possibly expand upon this cut material so i can get a whole monologue on a topic that would've just been an aside

#the actual standups in my class who have only ever done a tight five having to stretch their new material to fit the 20 minute final #vs me‚ an extremely extra fag who's used to writing full-length scripts‚ realizing the 3 monologues i've timed already add up to 20 min #and i'm working on a fourth one that works better as an opener than any of the existing pieces so it has to get in #(it'll be short tho i'm making sure of it. it's just like ''here's some material about aubrey's relationship to zir mom!'')#(then immediate segue into the uncle reg bit)#got the catcalling monologue down to 5 minutes and 30 seconds when the first draft was nine minutes #(tbh i'm fine with most of those cuts i think they were mostly filler)#(there's a bit about androgyny that i liked that i cut but tbh it doesn't work as just one paragraph it needs more nuance)#the uncle reg monologue is having the ''dumped at the pride parade'' thing trimmed down which is funny bc that was the original premise #tbh i could probably stretch my toronto pride material ft. uncle reg to a full 20 minutes bc the first stream of consciousness was so long #i wrote it right after i myself got back from toronto pride and tbh i actually wrote it as the outline for a sitcom episode #so the monologue version is very reduced down bc there were so many details that didn't fit in #and i'm realizing the material about the person who dumped aubrey should be its own monologue that i'll do another time #and maybe even add in the rest of the sitcom-style story at some point bc tbh that's some of my favorite aubrey material i've come up with #and the cishetman monologue is getting the intro part about facetime trimmed a bit bc it meanders #and the ''sugar and spice and everything nice'' joke is being cut even tho i like it bc i actually have a ton more material in my notebook #that's just me riffing on how weird those expressions are. and the material isn't polished but i could make it something later #the song isn't being trimmed bc it has a very specific run time and imo is the strongest. so that's my closer #anyway thank you to everyone reading my aubrey updates i'll be sure to post the final 20-minute-special on youtube #and i hope i get to do more monologues soon so i can put the other ideas mentioned here (as well as some i haven't) out into the world

it's not even that i don't think milk toast could be good. i haven't personally tried it, but after looking it up i've seen plenty of preparations that sound like they'd be decent, if not pretty good. the one that calls for you to submerge a single slice of lightly buttered & salted toast in a bowl of hot milk with no other seasonings is by far the saddest & soggiest version i have encountered, however

#i guess it's supposed to be for little kids & sick people or something but c'mon man #i'm sure they could be eating better than this. there are far better ways to consume dairies & grains than this soggy bland concoction #honestly i think the recipe could be saved with just a few tweaks. add some cream & sweetener to the milk #throw in your favorite extracts and spices (vanilla or almond extract with cinnamon and/or nutmeg would be my go-to here)#and THEN instead of pouring the hot milk over the entire slice & completely submerging it in a bowl to get all soggy #just dip the toast in!! you can let each bite get as saturated with milk as you like. total texture control 👍👍#idk about you but that sounds a lot better than the cookbook version to me #animal.txt

Hooooo boy. 6.5k words into this OrangeHook fic. This thing is TOO LONG and it ain't even done yet. For the love of God, it's Hook and OC! These boys are MONOSYLLABIC, THEY DO NOT SPEAK MUCH AT ALL! And yet, I'm having them go on and on and on. To be fair, there's a lot of internal monologue in there and Intense Rumination, so it's not all talking. But there's still waaaaay too much dialogue for it to be these two. This is probably horrendously out of character, LOL. But I'm having fun with it, so *shrugs*

I'm right at the point where It Happens. This should be where it gets smutty but knowing me, I'll probably chicken out and just do an annoying fade-to-black like I usually do. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to make it a ''And they were both bottoms...'' moment, and then leave it at that.

the flowers in mrs dalloway are a symbol of desire

"mrs dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself" is the first line of the book, and one of the only ones i know. here is what prompts her to have the existential crisis of being "mrs richard dalloway". her decision to buy the flowers herself is representative of how she is not being satisfied through her relationship with her husband and must instead find pleasure through the little independence she has (something something sapphic). additionally, the way sally picks a flower before they kiss, back when they were 18, illustrates how sally was the only romantic relationship she had that pleased her. the note in her memory (because the whole novel is the characters' perceptions of the past and present) that she did so is because she is unfulfilled in her marriage and is idealising that past. you would think this means that she can't find happiness with richard because she's a lesbian but through the textual conversation with the hours, in which clarissa vaughn is in a dried up relationship with her partner, sally, it just shows that clarissa sucks at relationships and idealises the past.
