I love Silas and Colum as a reflection of what Harrow and Ortus could have been. I love that I feel also that part of why Ortus is not that for Harrow is because he did not step forward to teach her. Harrow and Silas both are horrifying, self-suffering teenagers from some of the more extreme practices of the Nine Houses. I think the detestation the Eighth House has for the Ninth House circles back more to the way they are also weird and extreme and secretive.
Especially when you line it up to what we see of Ortus and Harrow as necromancer/cavalier in HtN. I can't help but think if Ortus had gone with Harrow, he would've seen that, too, and measured himself to the Eighth cavalier.
