(Castlevania Nocturne Spoilers)
*Screaming, crying, throwing myself on the floor* Oh God episode 8- ‘I am the ram.’ 😭 I love the comparison to the story of Abraham & Isaac and I just- *clenches fist* this part made me so emotional! What Tera was willing to do, Emmanuel’s despair and realization! The horror on his face! Ahhhh
Also- as a Mizrak/Olrox shipper- God, the pain of that scene. Olrox going from trying to deny he loves him, only to swoop in and save him, and show that bit of vulnerability, confessing he doesn’t want him to die, even frickin’ crying- only to have Mizrak emotionally wound him and storm off. And now he has to contend with the reality that he is falling for someone and it may end in a manner similar to last time. 🥺 Ahhhh I need more of these two! I need them to work things out!

Season 2 was supposed to be peak. I was promised peak, before the torture fest that is Season 3 and “let’s fix everything ASAP” that is Season 4.
Well, fuck me if this is the best season.
We see more of the dynamic between the main trio, finally. Trevor lost most of his gruffness of Season 1 and is now more melancholic, perhaps because he spends most of the season cooped up in his old family home. I appreciated how they also tried to elaborated on the family lore, such as how the Belmonts originated from France but moved to Wallachia to hunt vampires. Sypha is still cute, nice and talented but a little spoiled and sheltered, compared to Trevor’s roughness. They finally start to build some chemistry in episode 4, where Sypha makes fun of Trevor’s name and calls him Treffy, and okay, they’re cute. By the end of the season, they put a smile on my face :)
And Alucard? For the first six episodes or so, Alucard is horrible. He’s nothing but smug and condescending (okay he may have an understandable distaste for the Belmonts, I get it, but you’re way more of an asshole than the supposed asshole Trevor), he calls Trevor “unreliable, emotionally damaged, drunk and self destructive” after a few days with him when Trevor did nothing around him to deserve these words (Sypha has seen more of his worse side than Alucard), he curses already, he says stuff like “Villagers, pitchforks and torches, that sort of thing” which is very much not how Alucard should sound... How am I supposed to take seriously the running gag of Trevor turning everyone around them into cussing assholes, when they start out that way already? (yeah we already know that literally everyone here swears like a sailor, even characters that really should not. I will get there.)
Yes, they handwave it by saying that Alucard is actually a teenager in an adult’s body. He’s still a jerk. And this only makes a Very Infamous Scene much worse.
Strangely enough, they say that he’s called by others Alucard, it’s apparently not the name that he chose for himself, although he adopts it. Weird way to deprive him of his agency? Ellis, darling, Alucard is a silly nickname no matter how you slice it, no need to change the lore :P
Anyway, he gets better at the end when he stops being an OOC jerkass, and he becomes more like his kind but self-loathing game counterpart. I guess I’m insisting on this because I genuinely didn’t expect to dislike him this much. Hopefully he gets better later on.
Well, the trio spends most of the season doing exposition and supposedly bonding. And I mean. A lot. Of Exposition.
At one point, Alucard takes 2 full minutes to explain the tragic nature of his father and another 2 to drive home how terrible it is that Dracula doesn’t want to “destroy the world”, he wants to kill humans, which will result in a sad, empty world. I get it, man. It is a genuinely harrowing description of how mad Dracula’s plans are, but it comes so out of nowhere and it adds nothing other than “we must stop him”.
Another weird detour is the one about Trevor’s name, which isn’t “local”. Get it, because Trevor’s name was changed by Konami of America and he’s actually Ralph in the original Japanese? The explanation is that he was named after a Celt who rode with Leon himself, and it should be spelled Trefor, which, a little random, but okay. Well, good luck trying to explain all the weird names in Castlevania :) I’ll especially wait if you’ll ever justify the Germanic Richter.
Sypha goes on another speech about how both Trevor and Alucard are sad, but Trevor is still there under his sadness, while Alucard is completely consumed by it. Very poignant, but I only see smugness from him so far, so thanks for telling me instead of showing me? Who talks like that anyway?
I did appreciate Sypha defending Trevor from Alucard’s assholery by pointing out that he didn’t get to grow up normally, something that Alucard should relate to. That was actually a normal conversation to have.
I also find odd how the Morning Star, supposedly a powered up version of the Vampire Killer, is found in a chest as a separate object - I’ve already seen a clip of Trevor double wielding them. Speaking of which, was the Vampire Killer named in Season 1? If it was, I missed it thanks to the sleep-inducing pacing.
Speaking of weird writing... Sypha. Darling. Baby. Why in the sheer fuck did you move Castlevania on top of the Belmont hold? Like, she doesn’t even try to explain herself, she’s just like “oopsie, my bad”. girl???????
Yes it gives us the genuinely awesome moment of Trevor leaving the Belmont hold in Alucard’s hands, which is one hell of a friendship offering if I’ve seen one... but still.
I don’t know how to feel about the decision to leave Alucard behind. In-universe, Alucard explained his reasons well, I don’t blame him. In a meta sense, it’s an odd decision to split the trio so early on, after they barely began to bond. And I know how it’s going to affect Season 3 :\
Onto the villain side! The war council gets introduced, and with this, Dracula’s portrayal takes a nosedive. While he was genuinely intimidating yet tragic in Season 1, here Dracula can’t even intimidate a room by yelling, and all the new OCs take turns into painting him as a dumbass who just wants to destroy himself with no logical thinking. Which is true, and an interesting thing to point at, but let’s just say that I’m very tired of OCs existing purely to make fun of the canon villain :\
Basically, Dracula is clinically depressed and getting worse. By the second half of the season, his modus operandi is “fuck it, I don’t care”. And I do feel sorry for him, I do, Graham McTavish is perfect in conveying his tiredness, and there is an excellent payoff at the end, but I only see a forced reason for the OC villains to be right and surpass him. I think I’m biased at this point :\
As for the OCs, you have Godbrand who keeps insisting that he doesn’t want to fight this war, that it has no order, why does Dracula trust two humans over his other generals, and most smartly, if Dracula manages to kill all humans, how will the vampires feed? Dracula doesn’t have an answer for that other than “welp i have stored blood”, which is not a good solution for immortal creatures. I don’t have much to say about Godbrand on his own, he wants to be funny but insightful at the same time but I just felt that he hogged too much screentime for someone meant to last 4 episodes.
Then you have Carmilla who can march to Dracula and ask him why hadn’t he turned Lisa, did he really want to keep a pet, and Dracula for some reason doesn’t turn her into a smear on the floor. This is hard to go through. And it gets worse.
Oh, Carmilla. You wonderful radfem #girlboss, you. You are the Starline of this show, without any of the cute shipteasing. It’s really funny to compare her to her game counterpart, who not only looked more frilly, but was one of the many Dracula simps of the series.
Tumblr media
Here her design is more generically sexy (really, no skull motif? Boring) and, well, her personality is #girlboss. She’s a smug snake, she constantly speaks in a fake sweet voice, always with a hand on her hip, she #slays in her pretty dress and high heels, takes no shit from no man, her introduction is all about intimidating men, and no wonder fans love her, she has no depth other than “man bad” :^) (the implication that she and Godbrand have a sexual relationship is... uhhh interesting ig?)
The way her backstory is told is so forced too. She kicks Godbrand down the stairs to subdue him, and then rants about the Stupid Old Man who kept her prisoner. We don’t see how she was “bound” to her master, but we see her in her #girlboss moment as he murders him with a smug smirk on her face. God forbid we see her in a more vulnerable moment of her life. I feel nothing for her. I don’t even know if I’m supposed to feel nothing for her. I only know that at this point the mere sound of her clicking Girlboss Heels pisses me off and I want to use them to stab her in her obnoxious smirk.
Carmilla is the Mephiles of Castlevania. The show tries so hard to paint her as a Machiavellian mastermind, pulling everyone’s strings to get what he wants... but realistically, who is she dealing with? Dracula, who is depressed and doesn’t have the strength or will to fight her; Godbrand, who has only one braincell and it’s boat-shaped; Isaac, who agrees with her plan while knowing that it doesn’t benefit them simply to make her shut up (not that I blame him); and Hector. I am not impressed, I’m just constantly rolling my eyes because everyone is such a dumbass!
We have here another instance of weird writing, the running water rant, which is basically Carmilla, Godbrand, Hector and Isaac arguing about the validity of the superstition and what counts as current water. This smacks to me as Ellis trying to use logic to explain old vampire lore, although at least it’s not as stupid as the cross explanation in Season 4. Yes, vampires can’t touch running water because it was seen as purifying, much like garlic, and this is present in the games sometimes: Alucard in SoTN needs a relic to go underwater, and Joachim was imprisoned in the Dark Palace of Waterfalls, much like Carmilla mentions the ancient practice of burying vampires on small islands to trap them. So... I guess this is supposed to flesh out the lore? But it comes out of nowhere and, unless I’m proven wrong later on, it leads to nowhere. It’s a big filibuster that takes time from things like showing stuff.
“oh but these conversations make the show more realistic, it’s like how real people talk!” unpopular opinion then but I’m getting tired of all this pointless exposition, it’s not even that entertaining. All these people do nothing but talking, and I don’t feel a damn thing! And I adore dialogue, characters interacting is usually my favorite part of every story! Here, I’m not sad, I’m not amused, I’m not intimidated, I just want them to shut up. Godbrand is the only one who is mildly entertaining, but of course he doesn’t last long.
Oh, and people have already pointed out the inherent contradiction of a cursed zombie bishop being able to bless the waters. By all logic it shouldn’t happen - hello, the magic is called Devil Forging for a reason, maybe you shouldn’t drop it! But hey, everything to make Carmilla look as smart and powerful as possible, look at her, destroying Dracula’s forces like a total #girlboss! Or to yell that CHURCH BAD, in case we missed it the last 4383532 times.
Well, I’ve ranted enough. Positivity time! This won’t be long :P
The fighting scenes are still top quality (although admittedly the general animation has its dips), and I really liked the fight in the Belmont house. I have the smallest of nitpicks, which is that I would have preferred if Trevor stuck to the Vampire Killer/Morning Star instead of having a sword as well, but it’s no big deal. I also appreciated the more precise references to the games: while Slogra and Gaibon are a little “obvious”, I genuinely liked the inclusion of Malphas and the presence of four Save Room statues, that’s more deep cut. The sequence of Castlevania moving around Breila, being flooded with blessed water, and Carmilla jumping around with Hector in tow to avoid it is also actually original and cool. (it also has the only instance of “fuck” that made me genuinely laugh)
And of course, I can’t not mention episode 7, which feels like it was written by completely different people for a completely different show. First of all, Bloody Tears.
youtube
Chills. I love this track despite being used to death: I can only imagine how long time fans felt at the time.
I’ve watched the fight scene plenty of times, and it never gets old. Animation on point, good choreography, excellent use of every character’s abilities, this is the real peak of the show and I’m finally feeling something! It’s so good :D
Speakin of feeling. God, Dracula.
When I saw the scene of Dracula sending Isaac in the desert, I thought that it was a nice way to show how much he cared about his friend, but that it was also much dumber compared to how the manga justified Dracula being left defenseless (why are you sending away your best fighter?). But it was not about protecting Isaac at all: it was to ensure that he’d die in peace without Isaac laying his life for him. And, well, it got me. Finally, some good telling instead of showing!
(although sending Isaac in the middle of the desert with no help whatsoever is kind of cruel)
The ensuing fight is also awesome. After a whole season of moping around, we get a good reminder that no, Dracula is not to be fucked with. He shrugs off every attack, even the OP Sypha can barely scratch him. (and alright, him recognizing Trevor as a Belmont from his ineffectual punches is funny)
By the second half, it becomes more of a Dracula vs. Alucard fight (and tbf, the other two were clearly outmatched, although I liked the moment where Trevor supported Sypha with his back to allow her to push Dark Inferno away - yay, battle couple!); this is, of course, to fully explore the family tragedy, how much Lisa’s death wrecked both of them, and how Dracula is so lost in his grief that he’s beating his own son to death. Which leads to the absolutely best moment in the show, which still makes me tear up: “Lisa, I’m killing our boy” :(
youtube
This fucking sequence makes me cry almost as much as Lee’s death goddammnit I can’t handle this
if only this was the last episode. But no.
So, that was Season 2. Much meatier than Season 1, although still rather slow for most of its run, but I really thought I would have enjoyed it more, especially since I know the hell that it’s awaiting me. The core of this season was Carmilla setting up the stage to replace main villain Dracula, which I can’t say I found entertaining. Well, episode 7 was a masterpiece, but it took so long to get there, and episode 8 had to shit all over me.
... speaking of which...

:)
I had to split my thoughts into two parts. Because now, I get to talk about the Devil Forgemasters. And it’s going to be fun :)

Alucard thoughts (spoilers for Castlevania S4)
Tumblr media
So to preface, I have a sinking suspicion that Alucard was a very solitary little boy and that perhaps his parents kept him close and were very over-protective of him. To me, that would make sense if that were the case; a dhamphir/vampire hybrid would be a rare occurrence in this world and we do have unofficial confirmation of that when Carmilla brought up the fact that Dracula never turned Lisa and they had a son together.
I’m sure not even Dracula would know what they were getting into having Alucard and then Dracula had to teach his son how to hone in on his vampiric side to keep it stable. So, it’s not to say Alucard doesn’t have people skills, he clearly does. I’m only mentioning this because--
-- I’ve seen others make a comment how Taka and Sumi’s betrayal didn’t make much of an impact on Alucard’s development. And I strongly disagree -- it did.
Alucard does take after his father quite a bit.
- He’s analytical and meticulous, very thoughtful in what he does, like his father. - I’ve noticed that Alucard’s candor when he talks he’s exceptionally soft-spoken like him as well. But he’s not above swearing or making smarry comments. - He is also very dangerous like his father but that’s not a character trait. We’ve seen if he’s hurt enough, he’ll turn to what he knows scared people away (i.e. impaled corpses) but that also shows that, at one point, Dracula had to have discussed his human life with his son and what profound affect that had on him. No one’s going to know how that panned out, but this is in reference to “Lament of Innocence”. - Obviously Alucard is very intelligent, like his father, he’s very educated, so he has a passion to learn like his father. He even makes the comment to Sypha and Trevor how much his father enjoyed learning and lamented how much of a waste it was to see his father turn the way he did instead of using his knowledge to help people. But over all, I’d say Alucard strongly takes after his mother more than his father. He is another facet in Dracula’s long life to remind him of Lisa’s humanity, possibly to the point when his son tried to reason with him that he was so disgusted and hurt that he injured his son. Alucard has a strong sense of compassion and sympathy for others, so much like his mother, and he clearly tends to follow more in her footsteps than his father.
So, not only did he act out of loneliness when Taka and Sumi asked for his help, he was taking after his mother in doing so. The games go the same direction, Alucard does what he does because of his mother and how much of weight she has on him. But this is going back to how Alucard was brought up, that he was sheltered, in some sense, his parents very protective of him, so I think a lot of naiveté was involved when he crossed Taka and Sumi. They spoke to not only that depression and loneliness, but they also spoke to how his mother was a constant reminder of good in the world.
He did want company, but he also wanted to continue his mother’s good will and helping others. So, he didn’t understand the implications of their desperation and didn’t see their betrayal coming. In my opinion, not only did these two exploit that, but they also coerced him into sex. I though that not only Hector’s sexual intimacy with Lenore was uncomfortable, but I thought Alucard’s was especially so, like his heart wasn’t in it. It’s not to say that it was dubious consent, but they used it as means to break him down and killed them.
So, when they betrayed them, he is so devastated, he goes back to where his father died and curls up to the remainder of his father, because you know at one point, Dracula was always emphasizing caution, vigilance, and that not everyone can be trusted, the opposite of what his mother taught him. He went to the closest source to what he knew best as means of strength and how to handle with being betrayed. His mother likely never experienced as much betrayal and cruelty as much as his father did. And, well, he doesn’t have physical connections to his mother’s remains.
We see Alucard shift further into his depression as season 4 comes up. You see a few more bodies outside of the castle but I highly doubt that Alucard did this to random people without provocation. But more importantly, he just looks absolutely disheveled.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s unkempt, filthy, and looks worse for wear. We know he has guilt in doing what he’s done but also the affects of Taka and Sumi’s betrayal made him feel so awful that he let himself go to a complete, literal mess. Before then, Alucard was a clean, well-kempt man. Alucard stopped taking care of himself because what was the point if they were seeing him as someone to be used (not feared, even) for his knowledge and home. The bodies outside were used to ward people away, but even Dracula managed to stay clean and well-kempt, not like his son.
I think this touches the depths of Alucard’s shatter of self-confidence and how lowly he thought of himself after being used by Taki and Sumi. He would have shoved himself further into that pit, but the note and the man that died along the way was a nudge into the right direction. It spoke to his good nature and gave him purpose once more. Innocent people that were 20 miles away that desperately need his help.
Not like people approaching him in the one place he felt secure, a metaphorical invasion of his personal space. Again.
So it makes sense that he felt more secure going out to assist people and once how he saw families being tormented after losing his family, he couldn’t sulk in the castle. He wouldn’t sulk in the castle, because that’s not him. He’s not his father, he can’t do what he did, because ultimately, he’s more like his mother and his mother’s virtues are stronger in him. He is the literal antithesis of his father, he is his mother’s son.
I feel that Alucard always wanted an interaction with the outside world and he certainly had that with the refugees he helped. He played with the children, he happily gave them food, and he was doing what his mother did and you know that’s what he wanted to do in the end: Do what his mother did and used his father’s knowledge for good, like she did.  I feel like in the end, Alucard’s quiet inner grief from season one where he shut down from the world (not only just to heal his wounds) after his mother’s awful death, he was coaxed to open up and find a sense of community and love that he wouldn’t have had and had to limited degree after his mother’s death.
Tumblr media
He didn’t see himself worthy of it, not only on the account of his father’s blood, but what he did in reaction to being betrayed. I’m not going to say Alucard’s reaction was completely awful: what Taka and Sumi did was wrong and it hurt him more than he let on and more than what’s seen on a surface level. But not only that, Sypha and Trevor had such an impact on him as well, reminding him of his mother’s good deeds that was easy for him to feel comfortable in his skin again, or perhaps, the most he’s ever felt comfortable as his own person ever did.
From a man that was so deeply traumatized, hurt, alone, and exploited from the very first episode (you know Dracula would have used his son as a tool in his revenge if Taka and Sumi didn’t use him) to a man that’s finally found purpose and it’s the best way he can coumarate not only his father, but especially his mother.
And maybe that’s why he looks “weirdly happy”, the poor man has been limited so much in his life. So in retrospect, his development makes sense. He didn’t necessarily transform -- he found himself again and he found an even better part of himself he never knew he had. People like him for what he is: witty, compassionate, intelligent, and sympathetic.

Fun and Games
Neither you nor Hector asked Alucard any of the questions that were swirling around in your heads. You had both sensed that it was probably not the time to ask him about it and decided you just needed to reassure him that it was okay.
Alucard needed to know that neither of you were judging him or going to push him to tell you anything he wasn't ready to talk about. After all, you still barely knew him, but you at least wanted him to know that you were not like whoever had hurt him. You wanted him to know that you weren't going to do anything that would harm him as they did, however that may have been.
Instead of asking about it, you made idle chitchat about things like the weather or how the boy seemed to be settling in well. Alucard smiled when you mentioned the boy, it seemed as though he had also warmed to the child but it was clear he still felt that guilt for getting himself into a state so early in the morning.
Lunch lasted no longer than half an hour and, by the time it was over, Alucard was trying to leave again. Trying to run away.
"Stay with us for a while. I'm sure we can find something fun to do." You grinned, hoping that your friendliness would comfort Alucard rather than scare him away.
He met your eyes, absentmindedly brushing his long hair over his shoulder, "You want me to stay with you?"
You nodded but Hector spoke before you could, "Sure. We're living under the same roof so we might as well get to know each other better."
Alucard looked so shocked, so confused. He didn't understand why the two of you were making an effort with him, especially after what happened this morning, but he could feel the sincerity in your tones. Neither of you were planning anything malicious. You just sincerely wanted to try and get along with the man who's home you were staying in. Hector did have a point though, you couldn't all live here avoiding each other forever.
"Okay. What 'fun' thing did you have in mind then?" Alucard turned back to you with a rather blank expression, clearly not comfortable enough with either of you to show anything more than his usual microscopic expressions.
A smirk pulled at the corner of your lips, "Boys, we are going to play a game."
The two men looked at you, both with very different expressions. Alucard looked, well, like Alucard, monotonous with only the faintest hint of emotion hiding in his features. Hector, however, furrowed his brows and tried to decipher whatever plan was brewing in your mind.
~~~
"Hide and seek? Seriously?" Alucard huffed, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Yes. We're playing hide and seek. Oh, and you're counting." You grinned, extending a finger towards Alucard, who pointed his own finger into his chest.
"Me?"
"Yes, you. The three of us will go and hide from you, then you'll come and find us." Hector explained, gesturing to himself, you and the boy.
Alucard rolled his eyes and pointed down by the boy's feet where Cezar stood excitedly wagging his tail, "You mean the four of you."
"Yes, the four of us but Cezar and the boy will be together so they only count as one point."
The half-vampire raised an eyebrow, "We're doing points?"
"Of course we are. You find all of us, you get three points. For each point you get, you can ask a favour from one of us. But if you can't find us we get the point and you owe us a favour." You explained.
"Okay then but prepare to lose. I hate to admit it but I have the upper hand." Alucard declared, seemingly finding at least some of the competitiveness that resided inside of him.
You smirked, "We'll see about that."
Just like that, you, Hector and the boy all ran off in different directions, each heading to opposite ends of the castle.
"Don't forget, you can't stop until you get to one hundred." You yelled down the hall right before turning out of sight.
Alucard sighed but nonetheless lifted his hands up over his eyes and began to count, "One, two, three..."
As he counted, he made sure to focus his hearing, listening to all of your footsteps echoing as you grew further away. He was sure he was alone, standing in that hallway. All of you had run far away, surely finding what you believed to be the perfect hiding spots. But, not only did Alucard have the upper hand ability-wise, he also grew up in this castle. You and Hector knew the halls well, sure, but you had only been here for a year or so with Dracula. Alucard had lived here all his life, except for that year or so in which you and Hector occupied the castle with Dracula and his other generals. He was certain that not much could have changed in such a short time.
"Ninety-two, ninety-three, ninety-four, ninety-five..."
By the time he reached one hundred counts, the castle sounded still. Whatever movement there had been before had ceased. It was almost as if all of you simply disappeared into thin air, leaving him there alone once again. That thought had Alucard beginning to worry, his head spinning until his breathing grew heavy. He didn't want to be alone, not again, not anymore.
He began to rush through the halls at lightning speed, leaving nothing behind but a rush of passing wind as he zoomed through the castle. He was panicking, he was scared that you had left him behind too. Like they did. Like they all did.
He grew out of breath and stopped, hunching over with his hands on his knees as he caught his breath back. That was when he heard it, the subtle clang coming from a distant end of the castle. You were still here, you hadn't left him. Of course, you hadn't. This was just a game, only a game. Alucard knew he had overreacted, he knew it was all in his head. This was hide and seek for god's sake, the whole purpose was to hide and try not to be found. His breathing calmed back down and he began to make his way towards the sound, using a more normal speed to do so.
His hearing helped him as he stalked the halls looking for you and soon, he could even make out the faint, controlled breathing of someone with a somewhat deep voice.
Hector.
Alucard picked up his pace but tied to remain quiet as he followed the sound of the steadily beating heartbeat. Although it was just a pointless game, for children nonetheless, his heart was pounding. His veins were running with the tingle of adrenaline and, for the first time in a long while, he felt alive again.
His footsteps seemed to have been too loud as he neared the location of his prey because soon Hector was moving again. And so, the pursuit began.
Two grown men, both very much like children in their own ways, playing a game of cat and mouse in the halls of a large, probably haunted, castle. It was ridiculous and, had anyone else been told that one day none other than one of Dracula's generals and his own son would be playing a game of hide and seek along with a witch and a mute child, well, none one would have believed it.
Alucard could feel the heat coursing through his veins as he chased after Hector. Hearing the forgemaster swerve down another hallway only made him pick up the pace. He ran and ran, trying not to use his vampiric speed as he was sure you and Hector would later tell him that it was cheating to do so.
The pursuit went on for a couple of minutes and before long, it became much too easy to follow the sound of Hector's hearty laughter. Alucard had chased him around the floor and down the stairs before he finally caught up with him, covering the final meter of distance between him and the man with silver hair with a burst of energy before pouncing on top of him.
Hector chuckled again as Alucard climbed off of him, helping him to his feet with a smirk, "Caught you."
"So you did." Hector sighed, rubbing his arm from where it had hit the floor upon his fall.
"Is your arm okay? Maybe jumping on top of you was a little overboard." Alucard asked, looking somewhat genuinely concerned that he had harmed the forgemaster.
"I spent weeks being beaten by Carmilla, this is nothing." Hector chuckled light-heartedly about the ordeal he went through during his time with Carmilla for the first time since, well, ever.
Alucard, however, didn't see this as a joking matter and immediately began to sympathise with Hector, "I'm sorry."
"Don't be. Really, it doesn't hurt. Anyway. I'm going to go and get some water. I believe you have two more of us to find before the day is done." Just like that, Hector was leaving and, although he really did seem okay, Alucard found himself wanting to reach out to stop him from walking off alone. Instead, however, he pushed that thought- that feeling -to the side and decided that was going to find you next.
As you hid, hoping that Alucard wouldn't think to look for you in the most obvious place, your heart continued to pound in your chest. The castle was almost silent but the faint echo of laughter that had reached you a few moments ago revealed to you that it was likely Hector had been caught by now. He was probably now heading for a glass of cold water, looking out the window at the pattering rain as he wondered how long it would take Alucard to find the rest of you.
Not long, apparently, as you soon heard footsteps coming your way.
Alucard was in no rush as he strolled down the hall, seemingly passing the curtain in which you were hiding behind. You cocked an eyebrow, wondering just how he had managed to pass you when you really weren't putting much thought or effort into remaining hidden from him.
The sound of his footsteps continued to fade until you were certain that he had passed, leaving you to wonder if it really was him who had walked past.
Maybe it was Hector? But why would he be in this part of the castle?
Your heartbeat quickened but this time, you began to feel afraid.
What if someone else had gotten into the castle while you were playing your games? What if it was Carmilla or one of her soldiers?
Slowly, you backed out from behind the curtains in the direction opposite to where the footsteps had headed. The moment you were revealed, a shadow seemed to cast over your position and your back hit something solid.
You froze as two arms held your own, a smirk by your ear, "Caught you."
You breathed a sigh of relief and turned around, slapping the man's shoulder, "Alucard! You scared me to death."
He simply brought a hand up to his face and chuckled, clearly rather amused that he had managed to make you jump. It was nice to see him smile, to see the slight crease in his eyes. He almost looked happy.
"Who's left?" You inquired.
"Just the boy and that dog. I caught Hector not too long ago."
With a nod of your head, you hummed. You had known Hector was caught before you but you were not aware that the boy was still hiding.
"You know, we should probably give him a name. Can't keep calling him 'the boy' now can we?" Alucard decided.
It made sense. He must have a name, after all.
"We should ask him if he can write his name down or something, although I don't know if he can even read and write."
Now Alucard hummed, "Well, I better go find him first. Hector seemed to be headed for the kitchen."
Just like that, he was gone. You had no doubt that he'd find the boy soon enough and so, you simply headed off to find Hector. He was, as Alucard had assumed, in the kitchen.
"Preparing dinner already?" You asked.
Hector looked to you for a moment before going back to cutting the vegetables, "Yes. I know Alucard always cooks but I thought we should do something for him today. He's been nothing but kind to us since we got here, even if he was a little hostile at first, and he's clearly going through a lot."
You walked over, wrapping your arms around Hector's stomach as he continued to chop away, "I know you haven't known him for long and well, neither have I really, but I'm glad you seem to be getting along."
"He is... difficult, but he only has the good things about his father in him. I also feel some form of sympathy with him. I can see it in his eyes y/n, he went through something at least somewhat similar to me." His voice quietened slightly as he pushed the knife rather harshly though the last carrot before chucking the sliced pieces into the pot.
You thought it over and you didn't doubt what Hector was saying. Sometimes you just knew. What neither of you knew was exactly what had happened to him although you supposed it was a betrayal from the way he is still yet to trust you both.
"I can't find the boy."
You let go of Hector as both of you turned, half wondering how long he had been stood there but more concerned with the way he seemed out of breath.
"What do you mean you can't find him?" You asked in alarm.
"I mean I can't find him. I've searched every length of the castle, he is nowhere."
You looked from Alucard to Hector, both of whom had faces of worry.
"Get me something of his. Now."
