I dedicate this to @theulumuri who wrote a Cyberpunk GrimmIchi fic last week that got me fascinated and ispired this. Darling, you had also made me rewatch every scify movie I know after it, so thanks a lot for the fic, and please, keep writing, cos you have a follower in me.
Ichigo’s body crashed against one of the working tables of the compound, and he felt to the ground between a spray of broken crystals and mechanical tools. His head hurt after that punch, his ankle was probably twisted, and his cheek was bleeding thanks to all that crystals that kept cascading over him.
The other figure in the little cramped room loomed above him with blue eyes shining in the darkness. He was as tall and huge as Ichigo remembered, with blue soft hair, and few clothes. Not that he needed them. The android’s body was built like that of a fighter, with corded metal above corded metal, and reinforced with expensive elantrium. His central core, more powerful than a supernova, shone in the middle of his chest with a pale blue light that was beginning to turn red.
Like his gorgeous mechanical eyes resembling those of a wild panther.
The android had been built by Arrancar’s Enterprise, and was one of their best fighting models. Attractive and luring. Capable and intelligent. A deadly espada designed to fight in the wars against the revels. He was the peak of modern technology, however, as a fighting model, the three laws had been erased from his programming with all his consequences.
Grimmjow Jeagerjaques, espada model number six, was as close as artificial intelligence could get to real life, and was also the deadliest weapon in the universe.
Ichigo knew about that last fact intimately.
The two of them had fought for years, one against each other in those long wars so deep in the universe. On the Magellanic cloud when Rukia had almost been killed. On the lakes of Ganymede where the android had lost his arms under Ichigo’s own blade. Orion, alpha centaury, Ichigo had lost count of their battles long ago. They had been enemies, designed to erase each other’s existence, and they had both revelled in the fact and enjoyed it.
Immensely.
Ichigo’s knew each scar that adorned the android pale and beautiful synthetic skin, he knew every little pixel that illuminated his strange blue pupils, or the way his blue hair plastered to his face when covered by rain or blood. He also knew the android also kept count of Ichigo’s ones. The one in his wrist, the scar next to his heart. They had marked each other like lovers at night.
Legends and stories now circle on the universe about their classes and their battles. Both had been feared. Both had been revered by their strengths.
That’s why, when the android and his beloved enemy, had disappeared from the fight without leaving a trace, Ichigo had worried something had happened to him. Weeks had passed, then months and finally years. The war however, had continued and Ichigo hadn’t had time to think about his old enemy or search for answers.
Until a week ago, where he had found the body of his enemy dumped in a trash bag in one of the Arrancar facilities they had invaded.
As if it was unimportant. Disposable. Useless.
As if their fights hadn’t been the most amazing thing that had happened in the war.
Ichigo knew how the Seretei, the Arrancar and the whole universe regarded androids. They were considered just machines, worse than genetically enhanced humans but better than a normal robot. They could be replaced if they broke, they could be changed unlike human. Ichigo had also believed so, but after Grimmjow, after the fights to death, after the classes, the anger, the elated feeling of victory and defeat, seeing such an enemy dumped in a trash can had felt just wrong.
And so Ichigo had taken it home, to the compound he used to live in, in one of the outer edges of the galaxy.
He knew he had been stupid. They had been enemies for years. Grimmjow was programmed to kill him, and he didn’t even have the tree laws to stop him from doing so. But at the time Ichigo hadn’t care, he had been just pissed at the sight.
He had cleaned the huge android as best as he could after that on his home. He had found a replacement for the android’s lost arm, he had updated his programming as best as he could without the arrancar’s base system, and he had recharged him for days.
And finally, three minutes ago, he had turned it on.
The punch to his face should have been expected. The sound of deadly weapons loading too, the hole in his wall, the sirens of the compound, it had all been normal. What Ichigo hadn’t expected however had been the look of betrayal on his enemy’s face, his shout of rage, or his completely lack of control as he trashed his small work room not caring about where he was.
Grimmjow had gone crazy like Ichigo had never seen him. And then, all that power, and all that anger, had turned to him.
Ichigo tried to grab one of the tools on the floor next to him with bloodied fingers as Grimmjow approached his position on the floor. His face was set in tense tight lines, like his muscles, like his fingers gripping around a tight ball of blue plasma that Ichigo knew would burn him alive in seconds. His eyes, his stigma and the power source on his chest shone red, vivid red, illuminating the room and the scene like in a horror movie, like a warning of imminent death.
Despite the danger he represented and his murderous look, he was still handsome.
All androids were. Ulquiorra, Halibell, Nelliel, no mattered the model, all high quality espada were built like a piece of art. But there was something about Grimmjow, about this only exact android, that had always mesmerized Ichigo. From the way he moved, with confidence and feline elegance, to even the way he smirked showing bright dangerous teeth. He was arrogant, defiant, uncaring.
He was so different from all others.
Ichigo had never found someone like him in the whole galaxy. No human, no alien, not even other androids. Grimmjow was unique. The only being that seemed to understand and pay attention to him, in the same way Ichigo understood and payed attention to the android.
They were alike. Two faces of the same coin.
“You are going to kill me” Ichigo stated, his fingers closing over a piece of glass, but his mind knowing it would be useless against the android’s reinforced skin.
Grimmjow looked at him with those enraged red eyes.
They both knew he was dead. With no armour, with no weapon, bleeding and lying on the floor, Ichigo was a human with soft skin and breakable bones. Grimmjow however was a killing machine, hard skin, powerful muscles and weapons that could erase cities and finish humanity. There would be no fighting here, Ichigo was dead.
The Seretei would probably miss him, he was their best fighter after all. Kurotsuchi would probably complain about how much they had wasted in him. Rukia would cry. His sister won’t have to worry anymore about his battles. It was done. Finished.
The android knelt on the floor between Ichigo’s legs, falling to the ground with a loud metallic sound. He kept looking at him in the eye with a sudden concentrated look. The light of his eyes and chest changing, from red, to purple, to the known blue Ichigo had always known and secretly loved.
“No” the android said, his voice low and rough, making Ichigo shiver for several different reasons “I am not going to kill you”
Ichigo frowned as he observed the ball of blue light of plasma slightly disappear and drown them in the darkness of the room. The android was still looking at him with unblinking blue feline-like eyes, so focused on him Ichigo was beginning to feel uncomfortable. Had something else been wrong with Grimmjow? Had his wirings been more damaged than he had seen?
“T-that doesn’t make sense” Ichigo complained still unmoving on the floor and bleeding from the glass “Aizen’s programming…you were created to kill Seretei’s soldiers.”
A slow smirk spread over the android’s handsome features. Victorious and crazed. It made Ichigo’s blood boil in his veins and heat pool on his stomach.
“No anymore” Grimmjow said “I broke the programming. And the code. And the whole software he designed”
Ichigo gasped horrified. That was impossible.  Machines losing their software were like human losing their soul. Grimmjow shouldn’t be able to be moving or even functioning. He was something that couldn’t exist. He was stepping on the line that separated life from dead things as if it was something easy.
Ichigo tried to get away terrified, worried, so fucking scared of what was before him, but between Grimmjow and the wall, there was not a lot of places to go. Grimmjow didn’t let him get away either. Leaning forward, the android rose a hand that had destroyed planet’s moons, and touched Ichigo’s bleeding cheek with cold fingers.
“Finally,” he whispered tracing the curve of his cheek, his strange shining eyes so close to Ichigo’s human one’s “I can finally touch you without wanting to rip your heart out”
Then, still smiling, as if that hadn’t been terrifying enough, he kissed him.
