#I never liked how Vlad was kinda expected to not be still grieving into his teen years but Otis shows up only three years after the fire?

Timeline questions: what the fuck was Otis actually up to after Tomas fled Elysia?
If Tomas waited until he was actually certain that Melina was pregnant to flee, then we can use Vlad's life as a sort of timescale? If Tomas waited and then as soon as he knew Melina was pregnant, decided to flee, and Otis was the only person he spoke to before running away, then Otis has between the night Tomas tells him he's leaving and the time that he shows up in Bathory, which is about uh almost 14 years to have done the things he says happened in this time.
We're told that he went into a depression after Tomas left, and spent some of this time being sad and drunk with Enrico and his family, this ends, after supposedly, Otis and Dorian kill Adrian, but we know that isn't true since 1. Tomas needed a vampire to die leaving no traces behind in the house fire in order to both kill Melina and cover his tracks after he left Bathory, and this vampire is revealed to be Adrian, 2. Adrian dying in the house fire would put his death a decade after Tomas left, and it's highly suspicious that Otis coincidentally thinks that he killed Adrian specifically. Dorian, when Adrian's death is brought up, is sad but doesn't actually reveal the truth that he and Otis had nothing to do with the murder.
I don't think it's likely that Otis was with them for a decade, as I think once Dorian had contact with Melina and was planning to get her and Vlad away from Tomas, he would've revealed to Otis that his nephew and sister-in-law were in serious danger. It's possible that Dorian and Adrian had this whole plan going on and never revealed it to Otis despite him living with them, but I seriously doubt that if they had followed through with said plan without him knowing, only to fail, Dorian wouldn't have used Otis and himself as a scapegoat to explain Adrian's disappearance because it would only further serve Tomas' goal of evading Elysian justice.
The person who stands to gain the most from Otis believing that he and Dorian killed Adrian, would be Tomas. Adrian couldn't have been killed in Dorian's night club if he was in Bathory, but Dorian is considered a dangerous cannibal and insane by the majority of Elysia so he's not entirely reliable as a witness, not to mention that he planned this rescue and didn't breathe a word of it to anyone other than Adrian and Melina, both of whom are dead, so it isn't hard to imagine that Tomas mind controlled a very drunk Otis [which Tomas is said to be exceptionally good at] into thinking that he was an accessory to Adrian's murder. While Otis isn't necessarily a very reliable witness himself since he was drunk, it would become a back and forth of is Dorian lying about murdering his son or is Otis remembering something that didn't actually happen.
Otis believing he and Dorian killed Adrian both gives a scapegoat and ruins his relationship with the Ciotti family and also makes him nervous to be around Dorian specifically as it's easy to assume that the guy capable of murdering his son would have no qualms about killing the accessory to his murder just to tie up lose ends.
Would Tomas have waited for years to mind control Otis about the murder? Maybe. Depending on how long Dorian had been in contact with Melina, Tomas could've known about their correspondents from the beginning, or found out about it later on, either way all he needed to do was target a part of Otis' memory that was fuzzy to start with, and then plant that memory of killing Adrian so that he'd avoid the Ciottis and not reach out to them out of fear and guilt.
Now this leaves the question, if Otis didn't drink from Adrian then how the hell is he able to use telekinesis to move things? He believes this is a direct result of drinking from Adrian. This is odd because if Dorian also drank from Adrian he should also be capable of telekinesis, but this is not the case. My theory is that Otis actually drank from Dorian and that this is the framework that Tomas manipulated to convince Otis that he drank from Adrian.
Timeline as best I understand it would be:
1. Tomas succeeds in getting Melina pregnant
2. Tomas tells Otis he's leaving Elysia to marry a human and have a kid
3. Otis gets depressed after losing his brother and spends some amount of time with the Ciottis until he drinks from Dorian while super drunk
4. Upon finding out that drinking from Dorian has telekinetic consequences, Otis thinks he can't spend time with other vampires while drunk because if it's revealed that he has powers he could be killed
5. The best way to not be drawn to drinking probably isn't to run away from your problems, but Otis is great at making poor choices so he fled to Stokerton and went back to teaching at Stokerton University, trying to forget the past which isn't too hard as it's all a drunken haze anyhow, save for the fact that he can literally move things with a thought
6. Adrian and Melina are killed, Tomas plants the memory of killing Adrian in Otis' mind and lets him think that that's why he left New York so fast and desperately committed to being sober and doesn't contact Enrico anymore
7. The Stokerton Council gets tipped off to Vlad living in Bathory and decides to try to convince Otis to help them find Tomas, and as Otis is both trying to seem normal and desperate to see his brother again, he agrees.
So begins the series.
