The fate of Azure Lion
Tumblr media
Honestly it’s somewhat hard to say what will happen to these characters as they’ve just been introduced to us and the only one we know much about is Azure. However I think we can gain insight into how his character will end up based on the show’s writing style and tropes it tends to follow with its characters.
But first let me explain some themes I’ve found in the show that can give us insight into how Azure will turn out.
As we see with our villains they have a tendency of going only a few ways in this show, they die or they get redeemed at the very least once they’re arcs are done they’re left to chill in the background doing they’re own thing.
The best examples of this are the Bull Demon family who despite being purely villains in the beginning of the show, are mostly left to do they’re own thing once Red Son becomes part of the main cast. They technically don’t even stop being “evil” they just don’t attack the heroes anymore, and the same goes for most of the other villains like Spider Queen, Macaque heck! Even The Mayor is just left alone at the end.
The only exception to this was The Lady Bone Demon, and that was because she was a world ending threat and there was zero chance of reasoning with her. And dear reader I know what you’re thinking, well Azure is a world ending threat and he can’t be reasoned with so, he’s going to die to right? Well not necessarily.
I think out of all of The Brotherhood Azure’s fate is the most easily to discern as this lion’s character type is a very common in fiction and they only tend to go a few ways.
In summary he’s the misguided rebel with a good cause, and I know that people may disagree on how pure his intentions are especially with what happened with Wukong. But I think it’s quite clear he has a good heart, I mean if he didn’t why would he have prevented Peng from killing MK? He outright defended the boy saying he’s just another of Wukong’s victims.

And when the scroll was cut in half it’s clear to see he was genuinely shocked and upset by what happened, even if he did state it was MK’s fault it’s clear he wasn’t unreasonably angry at him for it. And look if he didn’t care about Wukong why would he keep the broken scroll? Why would he insist on him being the leader back when they were friends.
So, to me it’s clear that whilst he has good intentions he’s clearly going about it the wrong way. That’s not to say that I don’t think he’s right about heaven, it’s just that it’s pretty obvious that he’s being played to someone else’s tune.
A big part of his character that I don’t think people have realised yet is despite everything Azure is not a leader, he’s a follower a soldier. What I mean by that is despite having these grand ideas for the future and how he thinks things should be run, he always looks to someone else to guide him in how that should be done.
We see this when he joined the heavenly court to help others, we see this when in the brotherhood and he made Wukong the leader, even now since the Jade Emperor clearly stated he’s just someone else’s pawn in a much bigger game.
This tells us as the audience that 1) Azure is not the big bad and 2) he’s likely going to get redeemed at the end of this arc. How? Well that’s a little tough to say as I can see only a few options for him to go and most of them end up with him being pushed off the throne.
As we’ve stated Azure is just a puppet so it’s very likely that we’re going to see him going forward trying to run things but still deferring to others. Most likely his friends will override his decisions aka Peng will probably manipulate him into doing the wrong things, or his puppet master will control him into fulfilling whatever master plan they want and honestly it’ll probably end up being both.
Then he’ll probably have a gradual realisation that what he’s doing is wrong most likely kickstarted by finding out that Peng killed Macaque or something along those lines. And then he’ll end up entering a redemption arc which will most likely end with him fighting The Brotherhood or his master.
Now this is where I can see things divulging as it’s very likely that his story will either end with him sacrificing himself in this big show to show us how much he’s grown. Or once defeating the big bad he’ll go off on his own as a rouge hero who’s finally learned to be his own master, which honestly is the ending I want for him.
Or who knows in a crazy twist he’ll stay as emperor and start ruling with a fair but stern hand.
Either way I just can’t see Azure’s story ending another way since his character is probably one of the most moral in the show, you know aside from Sandy and Nezha.

But anyways that’s my theory.
Btw my old account was @feather2004 but I got locked out so I’ll be posting here for now. But if you want to read any of my old works go there.
