Greatest ODI Finisher of All Time! Bevan or MSD
A-ha! Now you decide whether an Aussie or an Indian -> my friends would say. I had planned to write the article after Dhoni retires. But I can't bear the waiting any longer. Mirror mirror on the wall. Who is the greatest finisher of them all? Well, all that apart, the only real contestants being called the greatest one-day cricket finishers of all time are Michael Bevan and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Nope do not make the mistake of comparing them as cricketers because Dhoni with his versatility will win hands down. Just compare them as ODI finishers. That's what I am out to do today. I came up with some interesting facts and stats while doing so.
Let's first list some candidates who deserve although not in the same league as these two specialists. Some of them are Lance Kluesner, Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Mike Hussey, AB De Villiers and VIA Richards arguably the greatest one-day batsman of all time. He and Sachin will say no we do not need a finisher. We can finish the match a long time before the overs are completed with available resources at the other end. But that is another story and another breed of batsmen.
By finisher do we mean a batsman who remains not out at the end when an inning is over? Nope. I mean the batsman who finished the match and won it for his team is the greatest finisher. In most cases, such an inning will result in the batsman remaining not out at the end. But there are many an innings in which the batsman had pretty much finished it before getting out. Sachin Tendulkar at Sharjah in 1998 against Australia played two magical century innings, one to propel India into the finals and the second to win the final for India. He got out in both the innings. But it was finishing of the highest order and did the job for his country very effectively indeed. And this is where Bevan and Dhoni come into the picture. They made a real difference when it mattered most to their teams. And they did it many times. This fact alone leaves clear daylight between them and the others.
The best qualities of MS Dhoni is that he is calm about everything when everyone in the stadium and watching the match on TV is about to have a heart attack. This was pretty much the case with Michael Bevan as well. But Bevan had solid batsmen keeping him company during his time such as Waugh brothers, Damien Martyn etc. Dhoni also benefitted from these batsmen at the other end but more towards the end of his career. They were both outstanding runners between wickets. More than that, they were excellent judges of runs. They knew when to convert a single into two and a two into three, and also when to not take the risk. This increased the pressure on the opposition a great deal. Not only the boundaries kept coming but the running between wickets killed the match for the opposition.
One area where Dhoni stands out is big hitting. He can hit sixes and Bevan, on the other hand, was not a big hitter. He could hit out if required but not with the same consistency as Dhoni. That to my mind is the real difference between the two. Bevan has won as many matches for his team as Dhoni did but with caresses and pushes rather than the controlled hitting of Dhoni. A finisher needs temperament and they both had it. I am saying "were" though Dhoni is still around. But I believe we have seen his best.
Most Indians will point at career strike rate to tilt the balance in Dhoni's favor but Bevan played in a slightly different era where the batsmen did not score at the same rate as today apart from the Tendulkars, Waughs, and Laras obviously. And the teams also did not amass the same totals as today. So this statistic does not do justice to Bevan. They both have great batting averages in the excess of 50s. They absolutely killed the opposition with exquisite finishing. No matter how they did it, by running around or hitting out, it was clinical.
Dhoni finishing is about his ability to do both: big hitting and nudges and pushes and run like a hare. Also, Dhoni played in an era when there was a lot of cricket played and he had to perform multiple roles in T20s, ODIs, Tests and IPL. This alone is backbreaking. While Bevan played ODI cricket basically along with the first-class matches and a little bit of test match cricket. Less stress definitely than compared to the modern cricketers like Dhoni. Maintaining fitness in such cases is very difficult. Dhoni has managed this but Bevan struggled towards the end of his career with a series of fitness problems.
Michael Bevan batted at no 4 or 5 when he engineered those great finishes while Dhoni at 5-6. This is mainly because Dhoni would take more risks than Bevan and due to the heavy price tag on his wicket, a tendency to push him down the order must have existed within the team management although this is conjecture. Although Dhoni's most famous innings the 2011 world cup final had him playing at no 4. It was exhilarating to watch the great cricketer clinically finishing the final with aplomb. And he finished it all with a six. That was like placing an exclamation mark on the match and the world cup!!
Most mortal cricketers in this world panic when the difference between the numbers of balls left and runs to get starts to get out of hand but not these two. It was just unbelievable to watch them keeping their calm and going about their job as if it was everyday chores. What these guys are made up of can be seen with finishing no one else can repeat so many times. Many great cricketers have graced the game and a lot of them have played stellar roles in their teams winning. But finishing the matches victoriously for their teams so many times? No. No one! These two just cannot be beaten at that.
Bevan was a part of two world cup winning squads in 1999 and 2003. It is noteworthy that Australia was at the top of their game when he was playing ODI cricket and was in his prime. Dhoni won the single ODI WC victory for India in 2011 although he is still playing and I am sure is eyeing the 2019 world cup as his last hurrah.
Bevan has the highest batting average for a retired ODI cricketer of 53.58 while Dhoni averages 51.37 at the moment and will end up around 50. This also doesn't indicate any clear advantage for Bevan because Dhoni would take more risks and as a result, would have a better strike rate than Bevan who will have the slightly better average. Both of them played and won matches playing with tail-enders and many times. I cannot describe in words how unbelievable it was to watch these men do it over and over again.
Another critical point that goes against Dhoni is the pitches he played on. Bevan played on large Australian grounds which make hitting sixes difficult while Dhoni batted at a time when the game was tailor-made for batsmen and on Indian conditions which have always been friendly to batsmen. Though Bevan comes from an all Aussie domination era where the team was on a roll, Dhoni busted the Indian habit of being poor chasers. That is his greatest achievement really for his country. It is no mean achievement, allow me to tell you, as I have seen Indian cricket since the 1980s and this had become a minor crisis back then.
VERDICT
I have tried hard not to compare them as overall cricketers and talk about Dhoni captaincy or Bevan left-arm spin bowling. These were like bonuses to their teams. I am not going to discuss the Bevan test record either as again that is irrelevant to the topic. You can compare their stats all you want, all day. You will find them counterbalance each other in the end. But despite considering everything I still cannot ignore the huge difference in strike rate. It is 15 points and I think that is the real and telling difference. Need I say more?

Virat Kohli versus Rohit Sharma? Who is a Better Captain? Virat Kohli versus Rohit Sharma at two fruitful cricketers who were looked at constantly for their style, execution and captaincy. Their commitment to cricket has no limits. However, with regards to captaincy, cautiously investigate and choose who has the high ground. The Indian cricket crew several favored commanders previously.
At the point when we talk about captaincy, we need to recollect Sourav Ganguly. He shaped a splendid group with players like Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvaraj Singh, Rahul Dravid and Virendar Sehwag. The group accomplished numerous accomplishments under his captaincy. Then, at that point, Indian Cricket had MS Dhoni. He genuinely did equity to his job and accomplished nearly all that ICC has to bring to the table.

Virat Kohli played the job of chief in 2016 get-togethers Dhoni. He had a splendid beginning as a chief with a series win against the West Indies. Notwithstanding performing great, Kohli has neglected to lead the group to achievement in urgent circumstances. The lackluster showing of group India in ICC World Cup, T20 World Cup and Champions prize brings up issues on Kohli's productivity as a skipper.
In the wake of losing the semi-finals against New Zealand, fingers were raised on Kohli's captaincy interestingly. Wasim Jaffer made a tweet recommending the board hand over white ball captaincy to Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma turned into the commander of Mumbai Indians in the 2013 Indian Premier League. Since the time then, at that point, he drove the group to win five titles which is a great thing. We need to say that captaincy freed the best once again from Rohit Sharma. He likewise intrigued with the restricted chances he had the opportunity to lead the group in Kohli's nonappearance. India won the Asia Cup and the Nidahas Trophy under his captaincy.
Another factor that questions Kohli's captaincy is his conduct in the field. India has regularly seen him losing smoothness. His high temper has affected him to settle on wrong choices. While, Rohit's quiet conduct and the idea of support players make him commander material. He additionally shows the certainty to back himself and his choices.

On the opposite side, the previous Indian batsman, VVS Laxman said that there is no compelling reason to supplant Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma.
Elements to be Analyzed for Captaincy
Adaptability: Virat Kohli versus Rohit Sharma go head to head as far as flexibility. Adaptability comes in various structures the conditions, the arrangement, the batting position. Virat deals with a similar normal in the abroad and home ODIs. In any case, Rohit has neglected to keep up with a similar normal in the abroad ODI. The two players I have explored different avenues regarding a scope of batting positions across their profession. Has played the number 3 and number 4 positions and furthermore took a stab at opening in the IPL. Sharma then again was a center request batsman prior to being elevated to the initial position.
Consistency: Both, Virat and Rohit have been reliable enough. How might we analyze them, Virat has the high ground. Has kept a normal of over 50 in every one of the organizations. However Sharma scores enormous, it comes in patches.

Strategy: Kohli has the ideal batting method. He can score at a 100+ run rate without hitting a solitary six. What's more, he plays all conventional shots easily. Sharma's strategies don't look as tasteful as Virat's now and again. Kohli experienced difficulties with his strategies particularly when bowlers attempt to take advantage of his solidarity and transform them into his shortcomings. He is helpless towards the conveyances outside the off-stamp.
Virat Kohli versus Rohit Sharma.
Virat Kohli began his cricket vocation with the senior public side against India in 2008. He joined the senior men dressed in blue in Sri Lanka in August 2008. Virat got an opportunity to open the ODI series and he played well. In 2009, he went to Australia for the arising players' competition. He finished the competition with 398 runs from 7 excursions. In any case, 20-year-old Kohli needed to sit tight for his position in the Indian cricket crew due to the set up Tendulkar and Sehwag pair.
He procured his spot in the ICC World Cup and Test Cricket in 2011. He assumed an essential part in the 2011 World Cup. Kohli alongside Gautam Gambir pulled off a salvage exertion in the wake of losing the openers. This helped MS Dhoni to score a 91* winning the World Cup. He was designated the bad habit skipper of the ODI group in 2012, trailed by a test captaincy after Dhoni's retirement in 2014. He turned into the ODI Captain in 2017 get-togethers' progression down.
Kohli joined The Royal Challengers Banglore in 2008 and has been playing for the group till now. He turned into the bad habit chief of the RCB group in 2011 and scored an aggregate of 557 runs around the same time. He took the captaincy of the group in 2013. In any case, neglected to take his group to greatness.

In 2013, he was recorded as the No 1 batsman in ODI rankings. He won the Man of Tournament grant at the 2014 Twenty-Twenty. The nation granted him with a Padma Shri in 2017 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2018 for his replaceable commitment to Cricket.
Rohit Sharma's cricket transporter started in 2005 with the presentation for West Zone against Central Zone in Deodhar Trophy. Rohit scored 146 out of 126 balls against the North Zone. He additionally made up to his India An introduction against New Zealand An at Darwin in 2006. Rohit Sharma's first Ranji Trophy match debut was in the 2006-2007 season.
Bonus - Salman Butt also thinks Rohit Sharma Is A Better Captain Than Virat Kohli
With India neglecting to cross the last obstacle in the World Test Championship last, Virat Kohli–the chief is by and by under the scanner.
The WTC last is the third ICC occasion under the initiative of Virat Kohli in which Team India has wavered in the knockouts subsequent to having overwhelmed the association stage and his naysayers are out in the open, requesting his head.
In the mean time, previous Pakistan captain Salman Butt has figured that Rohit Sharma is a preferable commander over Virat Kohli.
Suggesting the 2018 Asia Cup where Rohit Sharma drove India to brilliance, Salman Butt said that the white-ball bad habit commander looks a characteristic chief when contrasted with Virat.
I had noticed his captaincy inside and out during the Asia Cup (2018). The manner in which he worked as substitute chief, he looked exceptionally normal. Returning to Virat Kohli, India were on top for a very long time yet unfortunately couldn't dominate the greatest game of all, so individuals will undoubtedly bring up issues." said Salman Butt on his Youtube channel.
Group India recaptured its No.1 Test positioning under Virat Kohli for a superior piece of last years and keeping in mind that Butt praised the previous' initiative, he stated that individuals are eventually going to pass judgment on him based on the quantity of titles he has won as skipper, something he has neglected to do as such hitherto.
He did, notwithstanding, concede that triumphant titles isn't the sole boundary of passing judgment on a chief other than expressing that one requirements a touch of karma to win huge occasions, which Kohli has needed.
"You can be an awesome commander however in the event that you don't win any title, masses will not recall you. Possibly you are a decent chief and have great plans however your bowler will be unable to execute it. So karma must be your ally also. Individuals just recall the individuals who win competitions. Now and again you may not be an extraordinary skipper yet your group might be generally excellent and you might wind up winning a significant title. So that doesn't characterize a commander yet for the world, obviously, a decent skipper is one who has won enormous occasions
He closed down by expressing that more quiet chiefs have a superior shot at winning large occasions.
"Kohli has not won any ICC title neither has he won the IPL. He is a top-class cricketer, has magnificent non-verbal communication and is forceful. His energy level is at an alternate level, and it is clear that he needs to give his best every time he ventures out in the center. However, chiefs ought to be unpretentious and not searing. We continued hearing during the WTC last, that it is a fight between fire (Virat Kohli) and ice (Kane Williamson). Most top-class commanders who have won titles were cool or signal less at crunch minutes. Virat Kohli is a man loaded with signals. Had he won, he would have been lauded no closure.

Top 5 Best Fielders in Cricket
Cricket is a sport which connects with its fans, emotionally. It is the second most popular sports in the world, catching the imagination of many. Unfortunately, the sport is associated with only two aspects, batting and bowling. We always end up overlooking one of the most critical departments of this beautiful game: FIELDING. Fielding plays a massive role in winning matches and has time and again proven its importance in the cricketing arena. Kapil Dev’s spectacular catch in the 1983 World Cup Final or the magical run-out in the 1992 World Cup by Jonty Rhodes are some of the biggest examples of how decisive fielding can be.
Fielding requires plenty of athleticism, focus, and exceptional reaction time. To not be flinched by deliveries hit at a tremendous pace requires commendable courage. Traditionally ignored by many, most of the teams are stressing on having fit players capable of saving every possible boundary, taking every potential catch in their side. MS Dhoni may be thought of as the proponent of this trend after he famously led to the ouster of some of Indian cricket’s greatest but evidently unfit cricketers in return for young but athletic players. Here is the list of 9 best fielders in the world:

5. VIRAT KOHLI
Tumblr media
Virat Kohli is arguably the best batsman in international circuit at the moment. His batting skills have made him deservedly earn the sobriquet of “Greatest Of All Time”(G.O.A.T). Ever since Virat Kohli is at the helm of things, the Indian Cricket Team has gone through a transition. Fitness is of prime importance if you are to stay in the fray of selection into the team. And Virat has always lead by example. He is the fittest cricketer at the present moment, and his sharp sense in the field has aided in brilliant run-outs and mind-boggling catches. One such example of sensational catches is when he indulged himself in a day-light heist of Dinesh Karthik’s wicket in an IPL 2019 match. His brilliance in the field speaks volumes of his athleticism which is a result of hard work, grit and determination.
4. RAVINDRA JADEJA
Tumblr media
What Jonty Rhodes is to South Africa, Ravindra Jadeja is to India. Batsmen at all times have second thoughts on striking a shot into a region where Jadeja is fielding. The Saurashtra cricketer has one of the safest hands in the world, making him one of the best fielders in the world. His ability to pull off sensational catches in the deep regions with his hawk eyes on the ball at all times has garnered him praises from all cricket pundits in the world. Jadeja’s throws from the deep are a connoisseurs’ delight, without an iota of doubt. His run-out of Shoaib Malik in the ICC Champions Trophy has been widely regarded as one of the game-changing moments of that match.
3. AB DE VILLIERS
Tumblr media
Apart from being an explosive 360-degree batsman, AB De Villiers is also a very swift fielder. His agility and stunning reaction time is what makes him an exceptional fielder in the cover region. Part of his explosive presence on the field may be due to the fact that de Villiers played numerous sports like swimming, tennis, and hockey. Over the 13-year-long career, ABD has an astonishing 217 catches to his name, although it is partly because he played as wicketkeeper. ABD, thus, is an automatic inclusion in the top 10 list of the best fielder in the world.
2. SURESH RAINA
Tumblr media
Raina’s instinct in the field and his all-round fielding performance are a treat to watch on any given day. Raina made his debut back in 2005 and has been a prominent figure on the field ever since. He has taken a total of 102 catches in ODI cricket, and 86 catches in the IPL, making him one of the best catchers of the ball in the league. He also bagged the Best Catcher Award in the IPL for two years. Though he may not be in the frame of things for the Indian Cricket Team, one cannot overshadow Raina’s valuable contributions in the field and will certainly go down as one of the best fielders in the world of all time.
In an interview, legendary fielder Jonty Rhodes himself confessed of being a Suresh Raina fan. “I have been a massive fan of Suresh Raina, for forever; ever since he started playing,” he told ICC website.
“I know what the conditions of the fields are in India, and every time he practices, every time he dives, it’s gonna be so much of heat. He doesn’t even give a second hesitation of should I have dived or shouldn’t have dived,” he added.
1. JONTY RHODES
Tumblr media
What makes Jonty Rhodes an undisputed monarch of fielding is his raw athleticism, agility, impeccable throw and brilliance at the backward point region – the toughest position to field in. Toughest because of the minimum reaction time that is needed to take wickets. Blink and you miss the ball. Mastering this very spot is a dream of any fielder. But Rhodes championed fielding here like the back of his hand.
At times, Rhodes appeared to defy the rules of science. His ability to almost suspend himself in the air to pluck that precious catch is a sheer delight to watch. Rhodes holds the world record for taking the most number of catches (5) in a single World Cup game (for non-wicket-keeping players).
Not only his catching but Rhodes’ was equally at inflicting runouts at an astonishing rate. His dismissal of Inzamam-ul-Haq in the 1992 World Cup where he darted like a bullet from the point region and flung in the air like a bird to unearth the three stumps is probably the most iconic run out in the history of cricket.

20 Unique Records held by MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni Records – Probably the main production of God with three of the best characteristics – The Finisher, The Leader and a wicketkeeper. What's more, the Ranchi-conceived wonder is among the best in each of the three offices. Apparently the best finisher we have ever observed, a keen yet quiet cricketing psyche in the initiative and an irregular however compelling man behind the stumps, there is nothing that Dhoni has not accomplished on the cricket field. So it should not shock anyone that the 37-year old holds a number of records in each of the three divisions. While some of them will not shock anyone given the sheer splendor of the legend that MS Dhoni is nevertheless a couple of them will leave you dazed. Give us a chance to investigate 20 such MS Dhoni records:
Tumblr media
20 Unique Records held by Mahendra Singh Dhoni
1) Most Career Runs at No. 6
MS Dhoni made a profession out of batting in the lower center request and building associations with the tailenders. He batted at No. 6 and No. 7 in the vast majority of his ODI vocation, completing games in his own interesting style. So it should not shock anyone that the man has most runs at the No. 6 position in ODIs – 4031! That is a ton of runs considering No. 6 batsman barely gets any overs to bat and needs to bat with tail Enders. Be that as it may, once more, he is MS which is as it should be!
2) Highest Individual Score by a wicket-manager batsman in ODIs
The swashbuckling, long-haired Dhoni really showed up himself with an inning of 183 not out against Sri Lanka in 2005. Having demonstrated his hard-hitting force against Pakistan a couple of months prior, Dhoni was sent at No. 3 after India lost Tendulkar in the absolute first finished. What's more, the then 24-year old proceeded to play one of the best ODI innings, scoring 183 runs off only 145 conveyances.
Dhoni's inning had 15 fours and 10 sixes – A major number in the pre-IPL period. That score is Dhoni's most elevated individual score and the most elevated score by any wicket-guardian batsman around the globe in ODIs. Given the way that preferences of Adam Gilchrist and Kumar Sangakkara have been probably the best wicket-attendant batsman ever, MS Dhoni's record is genuinely a momentous one.
3) Only Captain to whitewash Australia in Australia in 140 Years
Beating Australia in Australia is a grand undertaking, not to mention white-washing them in the respective arrangement. The Kangaroos consistently figure out how to return somehow because of their never incredible. Thus, white-washing Australia in their very own lawn was a never-heard truth.
In any case, Team India figured out how to pull that phenomenal errand off, beating Australia 3-0 in the T20 arrangement in 2016. Virat Kohli was the star of the arrangement, scoring half-hundreds of years in every one of the three games. What's more, MS Dhoni turned into the main skipper to whitewash Australia on their turn in the previous 140 years.
4) Fastest to come to No. 1 of ICC ODI Rankings

The first ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 match for the India cricket team will be momentous for skipper Virat Kohli for a number of reasons. Though this is his third World Cup as a player, the India vs South Africa match, to be played at Hampshire Bowl on Wednesday (June 5) will be the first World Cup game for Kohli as India’s captain. Backed by an able in-form team, Kohli will be carrying the weight of more than a billion fellow Indians’ hopes. Meanwhile South Africa will miss Dale Steyn in their playing 11 as he has been ruled out of the ICC CWC 2019. The Ageas Bowl pitch in Southampton is expected to be flat and South African batsmen's weakness against the slow bowlers would allow Indian team management to pick both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in India playing 11.

True, the present team has several players who could single-handedly turn any match on its head — the skipper himself leading the pack of such performers — but does it not miss the class of the 2011 winning side, and the street-smartness of Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the captain?
Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh, many would say, were a different league altogether. And then there was also the support starcast comprising Munaf Patel, Ashish Nehra, Suresh Raina and a young Virat Kohli.

Going by the track record, six wins in the nine forthcoming games to ensure a smooth passage to the semi-finals should not be a tall order. Two years have been invested building a strong ODI squad. The process had started right after India’s loss to Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.
The 'Men in Blue' have had adequate rest, too. While each of other teams has already played its first two games, India are raring to go and start their campaign with a commanding performance.
The first match in a tournament of such vast magnitude is always important and South Africa's confidence will be at its lowest following back-to-back defeats against England and Bangladesh.

To make matters worse, fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is out with a hamstring strain, senior speedster Dale Steyn is still recovering from a shoulder injury, and Hashim Amla got a nasty hit on the helmet off Jofra Archer's short ball against England in the opening game.

Photo: Reuters The clash couldn't possibly have been more well-timed, as India have a chance to hold the Proteas by the scruff of their neck when they are seemingly at their weakest. However, the wise say that a cornered opponent is always a dangerous one. Head coach Ravi Shastri, a shrewd tactician by all means, will be surely making his players aware of the consequences of taking their foot off the pedal.
India vs South Africa: Pitch and weather prediction The pitch at the Ageas Bowl stadium in Southampton, without any grass cover, is expected to be a batting-friendly one, but Kohli will have a few points to ponder over, as the weather forecast on match day indicates a cloud cover with intermittent showers.

These will be some of the pressing questions for skipper Kohli to address going into the first game.
There's no doubt that the Proteas are badly hit by poor form and injuries, but it may just take one fiery spell from Kagiso Rabada, for instance, to straighten things up. With a bit of help from weather conditions, Rabada’s scorching pace and ability to move the ball could just unsettle the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, who haven't had the best of times in the past few months.
Kedar Jadhav and Rohit Sharma Kedar Jadhav and Rohit Sharma. Photo: AP | PTI K L Rahul is expected to take the number 4 slot, but it needs to be seen as to how well he performs when the conditions are nippy. Dhoni at number 5 will be expected to be the stabilising factor, and if he bats like he did in the warm-up match against Bangladesh, he could prove a nightmare for the Proteas attack.
ALSO READ: CWC 2019: Kuldeep, Chahal likely to start off, toss-up between Kedar, Vijay
But a bigger worry for South African skipper Faf du Plessis will be the batting department, where AB de Villiers' absence has surely had an impact. Proteas batsmen’s poor technique against slow bowlers has been exposed time and again and 20 overs of quality spin bowling might prove too hot for the South Africans to handle.
India cricket team news:
It will be interesting to see whether Virat Kohli will go in with both the spinners — Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal — or choose an extra pacer in Bhuvneshwar Kumar to strengthen their pace attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami.
However, given the inability of the South African batsmen to play against spinners, Kohli might be tempted to play 'Kul-cha'. Both Kuldeep and Chahal were extremely successful against the Proteas batsmen in the ODI series in South Africa last year which India had won. Kuldeep had scalped 17 wickets from six games while Chahal had only one less from an equal number of matches.

The desperation was palpable on both fronts. The team is seeking direction from its two senior-most players who would not like their final World Cup to be a forgettable one.
Having travelled for a couple of hours from London in the morning, the two players walked in the afternoon as the sun shone brightly after playing hide and seek during the India net session. Since it was a suddenly organised session, no nets were put up when Amla batted for more than an hour while Steyn bowled for around 30 minutes.

Shreyas Iyer Personal Life
There’s a touch of middle-class realism to Shreyas Iyer’s tale! Shreyas Iyer was born in Mumbai to Santosh Iyer and Rohini Iyer on the 6th of December, 1994. Iyer’s father noticed his cricketing talent and helped him nurture it. Santosh, a businessman who used to work from home at the time, was instrumental in Shreyas choosing cricket over football.
Pravin Amre, a student of the legendary coach Ramakant Achrekar, spotted Iyer at the heart of Mumbai’s local cricket hub- Shivaji Park Gymkhana at the age of 12. Amre noticed a boy hardly even in his teenage years, was timing strokes of the front and back foot twice his height and nailing cover drives and pulls.
Iyer’s teammates at the age-group levels compared him to Virender Sehwag. After early education, Iyer went on to complete his graduation from Podar College in Mumbai. He represented the college team and lifted various trophies.
Shreyas Iyer Career
A 20-year-old Iyer joined Clifton Village Cricket Club of the Clifton University in Nottingham and was the youngest player in the side. Ironically, Iyer had not played a single first-class match. All he had was the 67-ball 109 vs Australia U-19 and three matches in the U-19 Cricket World Cup, in which he had scored 161 runs.
Iyer was Living alone in a foreign country with completely different weather conditions. However, he did not disappoint. Iyer played 3 games scoring 297 runs at an average of 99. Furthermore, he broke the team’s record with the highest score of 171.
Apart from playing for India and Delhi Capitals, Shreyas Iyer has played for India U19, West Zone, Mumbai, India A, Indian Board President’s XI, India B, Mumbai Cricket Association XI, India Blue, India Green, Board President’s XI, Rest of India and NaMo Bandra Blasters.
Domestic Career
Shreyas Iyer returned to India and joined the Mumbai Ranji team in November 2014. He made his List-A debut in the 2014-15 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
In the first season, Iyer scored 273 runs in 6 matches at an average of 54.60 and a strike rate of 92.85. His highest score in the tournament was 105*. Iyer finished as the 14th highest run-scorer in the tournament and 2nd highest run-scorer in the Mumbai team.
Following his good performances in the tournament, Iyer made his debut in Ranji Trophy next month. He continued growing as he scored 809 runs in 10 matches at an average of 50.56 and high score of 153.
He finished as the highest scorer for Mumbai and the 6th highest scorer of the Ranji season. His vital contribution helped Mumbai reach the quarterfinals of Vijay Hazare and the semifinals in the Ranji.
In the following season, Iyer performed even better, He scored 1,321 runs in the 2015-16 Ranji season. Iyer hit 4 centuries and 7 half-centuries with an average of 73,39. He ended the season as the top-scorer and became the second player to score over 1,300 runs in a Ranji season.
In the same season, Iyer played crucial innings of 95 for Mumbai against the Railways. After the match, Rohit Sharma praised him.
“I had heard from people in our (Mumbai) dressing room that he’s been in good nick. I’m glad about the way he is batting. I was enjoying it from the other end. He reminded me of Sehwag a little bit because that’s how he used to bat. He batted pretty well. Whatever he’s been doing of late, it’s pretty good to see that,” the Hitman said.
Iyer continued to perform consistently in domestic cricket. The 2016-17 Ranji season saw him score 725 runs at an average of 42.64 a scored 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries. His highest first-class score came while playing for Mumbai against Australia. Iyer played an unbeaten inning of 202 in the 3-day practice test.
By September 2018, Iyer was named the vice-captain of the Mumbai Vijay Hazare tournament. Leading as an example, Iyer scored 373 runs and finished as the top scorer as Mumbai lifted the title for the third time.
The young batsman continued his good form in the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored 147 and became the highest total scored by an Indian in a T20 match.
IPL Career
Iyer’s performances in the 2014-15 domestic season caught eyes, including that of Indian Premier League teams. In February 2015, Delhi Daredevils purchased him for a whooping ₹2.6 crores. The young batsman became the highest-earning uncapped player of IPL 8.
Shreyas was a light of hope in a dull season for DD. Iyer finished the tournament with 439 runs in 14 matches at an average of 33.76 and strike rate of 128.36. He was also announced as the emerging player of the year.
However, Iyer was not able to build on his promises in the next IPL.Iyer player only 6 matches, scoring a paltry 30 runs with a disappointing average of 5. Delhi continued disappointing as they failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Shreyas Iyer hit back with strong performances in 2017 leading him to be appointed as the captain in the 2018 IPL season. At 23 years and 142 days, Iyer became the youngest captain in the Delhi Daredevils history.
Debuting as a captain against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Iyer smashed an unbeaten knock of 93 in just 40 balls as DD won their match. Shreyas hit 10 maximums on his way to a third consecutive half-century. The next season, Delhi Daredevils were rebranded to Delhi Capitals with the hope to change fortunes.
The ownership decided to retain Shreyas Iyer and his army of young blood with a mixture of experience. Iyer led the Delhi Capitals to the playoffs after seven years, where their dream run ended when DC lost to eventual runners-up CSK. With the bat at number 3, Iyer had his best IPL season, as he managed to score 463 runs in sixteen matches at an average of 30.86 and strike rate of 119.94.
T20 Career
Shreyas Iyer’s feisty playing style along with his records in both the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well as the IPL caught selectors eyes. In October 2017, Iyer received his India National Cricket team callup for the T20 series against New Zealand.
On his T20I debut in the 1st of November 2017, Iyer did not get a chance to bat as Indian openers Shikar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma led India to a 53-run victory. In the next match, Iyer scored 23 runs off 21 balls as he steadied the ship with Virat Kohli after Indian openers lost their wickets early.
In the decider of the series, Iyer failed to perform as he scored 6 runs before getting caught and bowled in an 8-over-per-side match.
However, Indian bowlers were able to control the Kiwis as the Men in Blue picked up the trophy. Shreyas Iyer’s most notable T20 international performance for the Men in Blue came more recently. Iyer scored his first and only T20I half-century in the Bangladesh Tour of India in November 2019. India won the match by 30 runs.
ODI Career
The Mumbaikar made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on 10 November 2017. With not the best performances in the T20 matches, a nervous Iyer came to bat at number 3 with Dhawan gone for a duck.
On a difficult pitch at Dharmashala Iyer scored just 9 runs in 27 balls as both he and the whole Indian batting lineup suffered. Determined to perform better, Iyer put his bad debut behind him in the second ODI as he scored two half-centuries in the next two matches.
He (88 and 65) in the next matches as India came back from 1-0 down to win the series 2-1. After an average performance on the tour South Africa, Iyer was dropped from ODIs for almost a year as the focus turned to the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Post-World Cup, the Indian team wanted to solve the number 4 issue and recalled Iyer to the ODI squad for the tour of the United States and the West Indies. On his return, Iyer scored 71 off 68 balls and 65 off 65 balls on the number 5 position.
In the first ODI of West Indies tour of India at Chennai, Shreyas Iyer was finally given the chance to play on the number 4 position. Iyer immediately showed signs of a perfect middle-order batsman as he steadied the Indian innings after Virat Kohli’s departure at 2-25. He scored 70 in 88 balls and helped India to post a target of 287.
In the second ODI at Visakhapatnam on 18 December 2019, Iyer scored 53 in 32 balls at a strike rate of 165.62 as India levelled the series. In the same match, Iyer scored 31 runs in a single over, becoming the highest score in an over by an Indian in ODIs.

2019 ICC World Cup: Team India Report Card
The World Cup dream is over. Throughout the group stage, India demonstrated dominance by brushing past sides with ease. Their only loss came at the hands of eventual champions England, but they nonetheless managed to top the points table. However, on the day it most mattered, Team India was toppled by the gritty Black Caps who displayed discipline in all departments. Let’s take a look at how each individual fared in this competition:
Rohit Sharma: 9/10
Matches: 9, Runs: 648, Average: 81, 50s/100s: 1/5
Hitman had an astounding tournament for the Men in Blue finishing as the top scorer in the competition. Unfortunately, the opener was just 26 runs shy of bettering Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record tally at the World Cup.
KL Rahul: 7/10
Matches: 9, Runs: 361, Average: 45.12, 50s/100s: 2/1
Before the tournament began, India’s #4 dilemma was yet to be resolved. In the first game, KL Rahul played in the position but couldn’t make much impact. The injury to opener Dhawan, prompted Rahul to open the innings with Rohit Sharma. The right-handed batsman pounced on this opportunity with both hands. Together, the duo set India off to excellent starts on multiple occasions. The 27-year old took some time to find his groove, but once he did, he provided valuable knocks for his teams.
Virat Kohli: 8/10
Matches: 9, Runs: 443, Average: 55.38, 50s/100s: 5/0
The #1 batsman in the ODI rankings has a decent showing at the World Cup. The captain batted with consistency which saw him notch 5 half-centuries, and handled bowler rotation expertly. He’ll feel unfortunate to not have gone all the way with the team.
Rishabh Pant: 6/10
Matches: 4, Runs: 116, Average: 29.00, 50s/100s: 0/0
Rishabh Pant gained entry into the Indian World Cup squad on the back of an injury to Shikhar Dhawan. Still a raw talent, Pant struggled to find timing in his WC debut against England, but quickly bounced back with a 48 against Bangladesh. However, his inexperience showed in the semi-final against New Zealand where he was unable to convert on his start.
Dinesh Karthik: 2/10
Matches: 3, Runs: 14, Average: 7.00, 50s/100s: 0/0
This tournament was Dinesh Karthik’s last chance to cement his place in the national side. The axing of Kedar Jadhav after his slow innings against England allowed the wicket-keeper batsman to make way in the team. However, the 34-year old did not make most of the opportunities given to him. India heavily relied on him to stabilize the innings after the loss of quick wickets against New Zealand, but unfortunately, he was dismissed cheaply like those who preceded him.
MS Dhoni: 5/10
Matches: 9, Runs: 273, Average: 45.40, 50s/100s: 2/0
MS Dhoni could have hoped for a more fitting farewell. The legendary batsman struggled to up the ante in crucial situations, yet tried to rebuild the inning whenever possible. Despite his age, his running between the wickets and glove-work remains as impeccable as ever.
Ravindra Jadeja: 8/10
Matches: 2, Runs: 77, Wickets: 2
Though he played just two games, Ravindra Jadeja’s impact in the semi-final will never be forgotten. The all-rounder routinely made substitute appearances on the field and fascinated fans with his lightning-quick saves and marvellous catching. His brave 59-ball 77 almost turned the tide against the Black Caps, tearing his most vocal critics to ‘bits and pieces’.
Hardik Pandya: 7/10
Matches: 9, Runs: 226, Wickets: 10
Hardik Pandya was the in-form all-rounder in the tournament. The 25-year-old faced every challenge presented to him with grit and determination; be it accelerating the run-scoring, or pitching in with crucial wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah: 9/10
Matches: 9, Wickets: 18, Average: 20.61. 4W/5W: 1/0
The World #1 bowler rose to the occasion on the biggest stage in cricket. The pacer demonstrated discipline and tested the resolve of the opposition batters. Looking at his numbers tells you a clear story. The 25-year-old bowled 9 maidens in the tournament and recorded an impressive economy rate of 4.41.
Yuzvendra Chahal: 6/10
Matches: 8, Wickets: 12, Average: 36.83. 4W/5W: 1/0
Chahal was the better performer between himself and fellow spinner Kuldeep Yadav. The Haryana leg-spinner started things off in grand style against South Africa picking up 4 wickets to dismantle the South Africa batting. However, he had a horrific outing against England where he was smashed all around the park. In the semis, he grabbed the crucial wicket of Kane Williamson, but went for too many runs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 6/10
Matches: 6, Wickets: 10, Average: 26.90, 4W/5W: 0/0
The Meerut pacer did a fantastic job supporting Jasprit Bumrah. His death bowling, in particular, helped India on more than one occasion to restrict the opposition. The 29-year-old missed a few games to an injury, but replacement Mohammad Shami expertly filled his shoes.
It’s only a few days for India set their sights on the West Indies. Have you created an account on FairPlay999 yet? Get the best cricket odds today!

New Zealand (NZ)
New Zealand has profited by having its most effortless matches toward the beginning of the crusade. That enabled it to get the required number of wins added to its repertoire and play the enormous matches with no weight. New Zealand has not won a solitary game any of the other semi-finalists or even the fifth-set group so far as that is concerned. With three thrashings in succession, New Zealand is unquestionably the group that different groups needed to look in the ICC World Cup 2019 semi-last. New Zealand must approach this match with a crisp personality. Nothing that has gone before this match has any result and a decent exhibition here could allow them to win their first World Cup title. While India will be glad to play New Zealand, there is no doubt as far as we can say that New Zealand would likewise be glad to confront India instead of Australia. The conditions are estimate to be cloudy on match day and in the event that New Zealand can find the opportunity to bowl first, at that point it will have a genuine possibility of traversing the Indian top-request. On the off chance that New Zealand needs to win this match, at that point we can't resist the urge to think it must be on the back of its bowling. Lockie Ferguson missed the last match yet is relied upon to be back for this match. He has the additional pace to inconvenience the Indian batsmen. Matt Henry has not had the option to pick the wickets that he was getting toward the beginning of the competition however we think he venturing out in front of Tim Southee none the less. Mitchell Santner and the two all-rounders will balance the bowling assault. New Zealand's batting is right now excessively reliant on Kane Williamson. He has scored 481 keeps running in the competition while the second best in Ross Taylor with 261 runs. Martin Guptill and the other opening batsmen attempted have been ineffective in setting up a stage for the group. We figure New Zealand may return to Colin Munro in the semi-last rather than Henry Nicholls. Munro can have a greater amount of an effect and might merit going for broke over. The most ideal route for New Zealand to play this match is to assault. They have the batsmen to take the game to batsmen and bat around Kane Williamson. A great deal of things need to go directly regarding climate conditions, player execution, and hurl for New Zealand to have the option to win this match.

India (IND)
Two strong successes after the annihilation to England will enable India to be in a positive attitude when it plays against New Zealand. Virat Kohli has a couple of determination issues to deal with since a couple of old issues keep on tailing him. India's top-request is in preeminent structure. Rohit Sharma has hit a record-breaking five centuries in this version of the World Cup, incorporating three of every a line. Lokesh Rahul likewise figured out how to score a century and the pair did not leave much for the remainder of the players to do. India's best 3 has been the best on the planet for quite a while and despite the fact that Shikhar Dhawan is out harmed, Lokesh Rahul has topped that spot off great. Every one of the groups playing India will see a chance to abuse after that main 3. Rishab Pant is youthful in his ODI vocation and can be very eccentric. MS Dhoni at number 5 is a melting away power and Dinesh Karthik, the present number 6, is a long way from persuading too. Hardik Pandya has been elevated up the request to attempt to have an effect towards the finish of the inning yet his high-hazard style of playing makes him somewhat conflicting as well. India's batting is defenseless against early wickets and that is most likely why they begin somewhat moderate. Against New Zealand, Trent Boult will be a major danger with the new ball. He swings the ball into the stack of the batsmen and has vexed Rohit Sharma before. India's batting has some huge openings in it and will require its best 3 to convey it for two additional matches. The bowling is another story, however. Jasprit Bumrah is the most efficient bowler as yet staying in the competition. He might not have taken the wickets that a portion of the bowlers have taken however his capacity to evaporate the runs is simply amazing. He is going to lead the assault with Mohammad Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav. India may play Bhuvaneshwar Kumar in this match is the conditions are somewhat cloudy. Damage cloud drifted over Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja could play if Chahal does not recoup in time.

2nd T20I (N), India tour of South Africa at Centurion, Feb 21 2018 | Match Preview

2nd T20I (N), India tour of South Africa at Centurion, Feb 21 2018 | Match Preview
India eye a series win at Centurion
Big picture
South Africa are less than 24 hours away from what could become groundhog day. After having conceded the ODI series, South Africa will lose the T20I series too if they don’t win at SuperSport Park, and they will be no closer to the answers to their questions about team balance and candidates for the future tournaments. And they will have to wait until mid-year to find out.
Their next limited-overs assignment will come in Sri Lanka, when South Africa hope to have put most of their World Cup puzzle together. Though the T20s have very little to do with that, they will have the more immediate effect that could spill over into what remains of a big summer. South Africa cannot afford to go into a series against Australia low on morale and probably shouldn’t because they won the Test series against India, but these defeats – their magnitude and their manner, will sting.
India have dominated since winning the Wanderers Test with a formula that just works. Their top three keep piling the runs on, Bhuvneshwar Kumar continues to impress and the spinners do the rest. They’ve even become adept at defending a total.
For South Africa to have any say in the series, they have to find a way of matching India in each of the areas. The experienced batsmen have to score runs, the inexperienced bowlers have to channel their discipline and whichever spinner plays has to become less of a target. But it is difficult to see all of that coming together in the space of a few days, especially given how hangdog South Africa appear to be. Perhaps all they’re doing is counting down, not to avoid groundhog day, but until this series is over.
Form guide
(last five completed matches, most recent first) nSouth Africa: LWWLW nIndia: WWWWW
In the spotlight
With the Test series against Australia looming, Chris Morris will want to make a statement in an otherwise quiet summer if he wants to force himself into contention. Morris has neither batted nor bowled with the impact a player of his reputation should and in a sea of underperforming players, he will want to stand out. Morris scored 39 in the ODI series opener and his numbers have dwindled since. His bowling form isn’t encouraging either: he has only taken three wickets in the six limited-overs matches he’s played against India this summer.
Suresh Raina had the shots of a man who wants to play in the 2019 World Cup but was dismissed in a way that suggested he may not get there unless there is some focus behind his intent. He smacked two fours and a six off seven balls and then cleared his front leg aiming for the rope again but sent a leading edge back to the bowler. Raina will want more time in the middle as he looks to make his case for the World Cup.
Team news
The only changes South Africa could make to the batting line-up is the inclusion of uncapped batsman Christiaan Jonker, but it will have to be at the expense of one of their experienced players, so they might save him for Cape Town. Aaron Phangiso could get a look-in instead of Tabraiz Shamsi.
South Africa (probable): 1 Reeza Hendricks 2 Jon-Jon Smuts 3 JP Duminy (capt), 4 David Miller, 5 Farhaan Behardien, 6 Heinrich Klaasen (wk), 7 Andile Phehlukwayo, 8 Chris Morris, 9 Dane Paterson, 10 Junior Dala, 11 Tabraiz Shamsi/Aaron Phangiso
With India looking to close out the series after a strong performance in the opener, they are unlikely to make any changes.
India: (probable) 1 Rohit Sharma, 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Suresh Raina, 4 Virat Kohli (capt), 5 Manish Pandey, 6 MS Dhoni (wk), 7 Hardik Pandya, 8 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9 Jaydev Unadkat, 10 Jasprit Bumrah, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal
Pitch and conditions
It’s SuperSport Park groundsman Bryan Bloy’s last chance this summer to prepare a pitch the South African team are satisfied with. Despite winning the Test at this venue, South Africa complained about the slowness and turn in the surface and then went on to lose by nine wickets and eight wickets in the second and sixth ODI respectively. India’s spinners took 11 wickets in those two matches, so Bloy’s main challenge will be to create a surface that does not spin. South Africa will want a high-scoring surface with no turn if Bloy is to get into their good books by next summer. There is an 80% chance of afternoon thundershowers, which could delay the start of the match.
Stats and trivia
The only time India have lost a T20 against South Africa in South Africa was in March 2012, in Johannesburg.
David Miller has scored exactly 1000 T20 runs for South Africa.
Quotes
“You are going to go through periods in your career, where you go through slumps, be it a senior player or a new player and unfortunately, throughout the series quite a few senior players have come up short, including myself.” nJP Duminy admitted South Africa’s experienced crop have left too much for their younger team-mates to do

Barring No.4 Slot, Core Team More Or Less Sorted For World Cup, Says Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli wants the Indian players to cash on the opportunities in the upcoming ODI series against South Africa in run up to the World Cup, which is 15 months away. The India skipper believes that the core team for the 50-over World Cup is more or less sorted, barring No.4 slot and thinks that Ajinkya Rahane is a strong candidate for the position considering the conditions in England. Ahead of the 1st ODI in Durban, the Indian team had an optional practice session on Wednesday, with Kohli and pace bowlers taking a day off.
“We have explored many options in the last few months. We don’t have too many series and too much time left before the World Cup, so we want to explore all the options before the World Cup,” Kohli told reporters.
“I had said earlier that Ajinkya Rahane would be looked at as a third opener but that situation can change because he has batted at No. 4 in a World Cup (in 2015) before. These conditions are such that you get to play fast bowling throughout the innings so he becomes a strong candidate for No. 4.
“Other than him we have Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey.
We don’t want to be one-dimensional. It depends whose technique is more suited to what spot especially in that particular country. All options are open,” he said further.
The rest of the batting order is more or less sorted, said Kohli.
“Although the lower middle order is more or less sorted, the middle order is something we are still looking at. The combination is working well for us with Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni rotating and batting together.
“No. 4 is something we have experimented with in the last couple of series. That is the only spot I can see that needs to be solidified otherwise the team looks pretty balanced, he added.
Kohli stressed that although the core group of players has been identified already, things could still change in the lead-up to the World Cup.
He also added that there is a need to find balance between preparations and the challenge of current series.
“It s about who takes that one particular spot (number four). It’s not even spots above and below. Guys who are given the opportunity need to capitalise and really string in performances that convince the management and the team very soon that that guy is meant to play at that spot for the team.
“I feel the core of players is more or less pretty strong at the moment. Obviously changes can happen at any stage. You don’t know whether someone is going to be in form or not or what the team requires at certain stages,” he said.
Kohli said that the squad has enough quality even if there is some experimentation to be done.
“It is about finding players who fit a particular spot better in certain conditions. That will be our mindset. We will play the World Cup in England, which will be very different to what we get in India.
“People who might be doing well at home might not necessarily repeat their performances in England. It s very different. We will have to figure out which players game suits the team best in particular conditions that we play, at a particular spot.
“I don t think the quality of the team will be compromised in any way regardless of who takes the No.4 position because we have strong batsmen above and below to stabilise the innings,” said the skipper.
Talking about the series in question, the Indian skipper said that this would be a tough assignment for India’s leg- spinners who are playing in foreign conditions for the first time.
“We are one of the few teams, or probably the only team in world cricket, to be blessed with two wristspinners, while Kedar Jadhav is doing the conventional job pretty well for the team. Wrist-spinners help you in any conditions in the world.
“Wrist-spinners can go for six an over but they will pick you three wickets as well, which is eventually the difference in the game, said Kohli.
India have a poor ODI record in South Africa, having won only won 5 out of 27 ODIs they have played against South Africa in South Africa, have never won a bilateral series here or indeed beaten South Africa at Durban in ODI cricket.
“We obviously want to win every series that we play.
Thinking of records or doing something that hasn’t been done before is not something you think of before achieving it. It just adds extra pressure, which is not needed.
“But yes, we took a lot of confidence from that last Test. As batsmen obviously, everyone is looking forward to stepping up. Like in the last Test how we believed in ourselves and ended up winning the Test. We have to carry the same belief throughout this series.”
Kohli expects the pitches to be much more batting friendly in ODIs that what was seen in the Test series.
“The wickets are going to be much better than the Test series, because of the format and this pitch looks pretty balanced I would say for a good game of cricket.”
Kohli was asked about the various differences between leading in Test and ODI cricket, after being named captain in ICC s annual teams in both formats. The skipper said that there is a great bunch of players available to the team management at the moment.
“In ODI cricket you have to think more, at every moment.
In Test cricket, the game has a pattern, and it goes with a flow and a speed. So, you can figure out in which session when the momentum shifts. But in ODI cricket it can be over to over. So you have to always stay ahead of the game.
“One advantage as a batsman is I can think like one and figure out what must be going through their minds. You have to be on top of the game and do things proactively first rather than later.”
Before picking a player, the character is given more importance than skills, said Kohli.
“For us as team management, and myself, we look at characters before we look at skill. We look at a guy who scored 40 when the team needed it the most. Compared to a guy who has scored runs but they might not have affected the state of the game that much.
“We look for game-changers, we look for guys who embrace pressure, we look for guys who want to be in difficult situations because in one-day cricket you don t have another day to come back and do something extra. You have to make decisions there and then,” he said.

Quotes
“You are going to go through periods in your career, where you go through slumps, be it a senior player or a new player and unfortunately, throughout the series quite a few senior players have come up short, including myself.” JP Duminy admitted South Africa’s experienced crop have left too much for their younger team-mates to do

“He (Ashwin) is hardly 31, 32 years old and can play for another 4-5 years at least. But it will also depend on how he performs and remains injury free. Only time will tell as it will be very hard for him after 35,” mentioned Muralitharan. Besides, Ashwin additionally has 150 ODI wickets from 111 matches.
Not simply high quality of two groups however overkill of contests have taken the sheen out of India-Sri Lanka sequence, a truth which was lately endorsed by India captain Virat Kohli. Asked Muralitharan concerning the subject, he gave a tongue-in- cheek reply. “I can’t say there is too much of (India-Sri Lanka) cricket but may be Virat (Kohli) is getting bored of winning every time,” he mentioned.
While Muralitharan complemented the present Indian group below Kohli for its stage of consistency, he expressed severe concern concerning the sorry state of Sri Lankan cricket. “India is a very good side and I rate them very high. You can’t take credit away from India by saying that Sri Lanka is a weak team. They are doing really well in every format,” he mentioned.
“Alarm bells (in Sri Lankan cricket) have rang two three years ago. For me it’s a matter of great concern. You lose sometime but this (Sri Lankan) team is losing a lot and that is a major worry,” a involved Muralitharan mentioned. “Young cricketers are not coming through. They are not performing. Thats the biggest concern we have,” concluded the spin nice.
