When people talk about cherry blossoms they usually mean this species, Prunus serrulata, the Japanese flowering cherry. In Japan Hanami (花見, "flower viewing") is the traditional Japanese custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers (花, hana) but it almost always refers to pink flowering cherry trees(桜).

In Vancouver, the history of cherry blossoms dates back to the 1930s. Two of the main Japanese port cities, Kobe and Yokohama, donated 500 trees to the Japanese cenotaph in Stanley Park to honor Japanese Canadians who served in the First World War.

There are now over 45,000 cherry trees in Vancouver. We have an annual Hanami Festival and I think this year's must-see event is the Sakura Days Japan Fair at the Van Dusen Botanical Garden (April 13/14). I'll be there. I think I'll take my camera. I'm hoping for a sunny day.

BACA JUGA: Petang Megang Kembali Digelar Masyarakat Pekanbaru, Ini Lokasinya Dalam atmosfer yang begitu meriah, pihaknya akan menyuguhkan penampilan khusus dari dua bintang papan atas, yakni Syakir Daulay dan Annisa Rahman. "Kegiatan yang menjadi hasil kolaborasi gemilang antara FPRM, dan Kementerian Kominfo. Serta Pemerintah Kota Pekanbaru ini dihadirkan untuk seluruh warga, khususnya kaum muda," ungkap Masykur Tarmizi. Tabligh Akbar Sebelumnya, rangkaian festival ini sudah dimulai sejak Tabligh Akbar pada tanggal 1 Oktober lalu. Tabligh Akbar yang diusung dengan tema 'Ukhuwah Islamiyah, Persatuan Pemuda Remaja Masjid dan Literasi Digital'. Menghadirkan, Ustadz Hamanis (Hannan, Mannan, dan Ihsan) sebagai pembicara utama. Tidak kurang dari 66 tenda turut berpartisipasi dalam bazar ini. Pada Pekan Maulid Festival ini, sejak hari Rabu juga telah dilangsungkan 10 cabang perlombaan yang beragam. Di antara lomba-lomba tersebut adalah Lomba Story Telling, Cerdas Cermat, Hadroh, Marawis, Nasyid, Barzanji, Rebana, Busana Muslimah (Syar'i), Defile, dan Mars BKMT. Tidak hanya itu, pada kesempoatan yang sama juga dihadirkan penampilan istimewa dari Opick, yang rencananya akan dihelat di Jalan Gajah Mada. Taking the idea of of how the transparent material flows down diagonally in certain areas? So i decided to test it out with my garment material. Made up my own drape design ( got a bit carried away pinning different parts up).

the flowing shoulder piece inspired by Indian Saris, no fabric on the back of the dress ( I like this a lot ) makes the design look remarkably elegant.

A quick sketch Inspired by Hussein Chalayans design outfit idea. I like the layering of the material and the way it flows diagonally, however, I feel as if this would be too complicated too make and I am very limited with time. Also Im not really a fan of shorter dress design idea unfortunately . It doesn’t look as elegant personally. However, I do like the pink and Blue colour palette.

I like the way the material flows over the arm in the garment. Gives off ‘ Swan vibes’. May try a quick drape on the mannequin- the light material can make a garment look so effortlessly beautiful. 

Not a fan of this drape but he idea of covering both arms instead of one ( a shoal-like ) design is something I like. Would probably have to style this or buy more material as the drape is quite short and revealing on the bottom half.

However on this occasion I Wont be constructing any designs from this collection , but the design above I will use in my final collection of 3 Designs. As I am a fan of the shape and appearance of the design itself. I love the curves and the way it sits on the drawn figure.

To link things, I started to look into countries more as I am trying to get countries to form a tighter bond in the industry. Now that i have looked at racial diversity and people who are making a difference/ also looked at collections and the idea of landmarks I am now moving onto looking at traditional celebrations in different countries. Zooming into countries more to get more sample ideas- its interesting to explore countries a bit more.

I wrote down all the countries/ capitals that have a traditional celebrations in that interest me. However I would only take 2-3 celebrations forward otherwise their would be too much to focus on. So the blossom festival ( Hamani ) in Japan interest me, would be cool to have a burst of pink in my garment + I could focus on sewing skills and embroidery- I realised that Newyork celebrate the same festival but they name it ‘ Sakura Matsuiri Cherry Blossom festival. Some possible samples linked to this ?

Interested in the Festa Della Donne( international womans day ) celebration in Rome. Such a large event in Italy . Members of the Political Party chose the Mimosa as the symbol of the Festa Della Donne. The yellow colour, lends cheerfulness, and because of the delicateness of its flowerheads is reminiscent  of womens sweetness. Samples using Gold and yellow to represent flowers? 

Diwali Festival of lights- Diwali , also known as the Festival of lights , is the biggest festival celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists around the world. People from all walks of life decorate their homes with ‘diyas’ , earthenware oillamps and candles. For many in India, it also makes the end of the harvest season and is the chance to give thanks to Lakshmi, the Hindu Goddess of wealth and prosperity. Some samples could be done inspired by this ? Ideas of samples inspired by lanterns, sequins and gems. Gold colour theme? 

My tutor suggested that I should do look into an event in Spain ‘ running of the bulls’ . The origin of this event comes from the need to transport the bulls from the fields outside the city, where they were bred, to the bullring, where they would be killed in the evening. During this 'run', youngsters would jump among them to show off their bravado. In Pamplona and other places, the six bulls in the event are still those that will feature in the afternoon bullfight of the same day. She explained that a dress design would look cool with red paint splats across the garment which represents the blood from the bulls... really not intrigued by the idea its quite a depressing subject and I don’t want my garment to be based on anything negative. Paint splats would also ruin the appearence I feel + I have a very specific colour palette at the moment: Teal, Gold and pink.
