I think I've learnt that lyrics come a lot easier when I have a strong visual image in my head that I'm describing. When it's more plot or state of mind it's harder to find the words (even if I'm not actually writing very visually)
I'm going through my most production-heavy song and picking out which bits of the vocal layers I want to be the melody I sing live. Also updating the notation for the whole thing so that when I record it properly I can be sure to not miss anything
I don't want the next album to take too long because I might be a different person then, but also, the title is something I came up with in 2005ish. so maybe that's not an issue
Currently I am taking a break from writing to prepare for a performance I am doing next month. To get up to the set time I am including a few songs off my next album, so it's been an opportunity to experiment with what vocal approach and interpretation I want. For some of the songs I wrote a few years ago this has shifted a bit as I'm focusing more on the storytelling side of things, not just the structural approach.
