#HE IS HERE. HE HAS ARRIVED. HE IS HOME. A TWIGS FREE FROM CONFINEMENT

So my dad bought me Beanie Babies, and by that I mean he told my mom he was buying Beanie Babies for me that he'd then put in little see-through plastic boxes and store in his home office because they were an "investment". I was not allowed to touch them. These were forbidden toys. We would go to the collector's shop and he would barter for Beanie Babies that I would stare hungrily at, as I was 8, and they would get put in one of the plastic boxes and stacked, like a brick, in my dad's Wall of Forbidden Beanies.
There was a Beanie Baby called Twigs that I was obsessed with as a kid.
Tumblr media
I LOVED giraffes. Giraffes were my favorite animal for like five years. And my dad, knowing I liked giraffes, bought Twigs. Twigs immediately went into the Wall of Forbidden Beanies even though I wanted to play with him so, so very much, because he was considered rare. A hot ticket beanie. Not to be dragged through the dirt and forced to play 9 Year Old Girl Child War Games.
I dreamed of Twigs.
Twigs became my white whale. I wanted to hold Twigs so badly. I wanted to cradle his perplexing little body and pet his weird little line of minky fabric that represented his mane. Every so often when I was pissed off at my dad I would think to myself I'm going to go into dad's office and I'm going to break down the Wall of Forbidden Beanies, brick by plastic brick, until I can get at Twigs, and then I'm busting him out of jail and we're going to be best friends.
I never did and Twigs remained a memory until my mother-in-law decided, when visiting this week, to bring all of my husband's Beanie Babies with her.
And GUESS WHAT BEANIE BABY
MY HUSBAND HAD

[Multi-chapter || on going]
Summary:
The Ackerman duo. Just the mention of this name filled Hange with so many feelings. Mostly, when she reread the files of their cases over and over, until her eyes watered, she felt pricking annoyance. Sometimes, when she stared at the dead bodies of those scarce unfortunates who stumbled upon their crimes, she was filled with hatred and a pushing need for revenge. Hange couldn't deny, however, there were times when she marveled at the impudence of their crimes. And, when she was investigating the Ackerman's cases and saw just how meticulously planned they all were, she couldn't help but feel something close to fascination.
No one knew who they were. No one had seen their faces, no one knew their true names. Almost everyone knew of their crimes.
Hange was determined to unravel every last one of their secrets. She will put an end to their crimes and then she will get the elusive Ackermans behind bars.

When Petra was promoted to a detective and partnered up with legendary Levi Ackerman, she felt like the happiest person in the world.
But, as she soon found out, detective Ackerman she used to admire so much was actually a far cry from the ideal policeman Petra thought he was. He was rude, harsh and easily annoyed.
And, in addition, he still hadn’t moved on from the death of his previous partner - detective Hange Zoe.

Summary:
The rain had started up again. Fat droplets drummed over her hood, drenching the fabric. Her horse’s reins were wet and cold; though her fingers, numbed from continued exposure to the elements, could hardly feel them.
Following the sound of the explosion, they’d arrived at a clearing. It was a mess of blackened, shattered wood, and the wagon, a skeleton, was little more than a smoking husk. Beyond the wreckage, a titan lay prostrate. Felled, its limp, hulking form was barely visible through the rain.
As soldiers shouted, pointing at the creature, one of the horses still tethered to the ruined wagon, writhed. When the beast screamed a broken, panicked wail, her own horse shifted, flanks twitching with unease.
Hanji barely noticed.
The soldiers' voices, the poor beast’s screams, even the heavy, even thrum of rain - had silenced as she looked to the river.
A body lay at the edge of the dark, white-capped water.

“Are you worried about your wife?”
The question shocked him out of his musings.
Levi looked up, “My what?”
But the pastor was already speaking, “You’re obviously beside yourself with stress – and it’s understandable. Not knowing if your wife has survived-”
Levi cut him off, “My what?”
The pastor hesitated, apparently realizing he’d made some mistake, but misunderstanding precisely what it was. “Your…wife? The woman we traveled with before? She’s ah – forceful. You two uh – have the same, er – strident personality. When we first met, she dangled me off the wall.”
• Terrible Things by someonestolemyshoes
[One-shot]
Summary:
The first time he tells her she’s pretty, Hange is all kinds of filthy - sweaty, dirty, twigs in her hair and mud on her shoes and a great big disgusting ball of everything Levi hates.
She is also crying.
It isn’t like he’s never seen her cry before - they’re nine and crying is just what kids do, especially kids like Hange who like to play with things they probably shouldn’t play with and like to climb trees even though they’re kind of clumsy and so the crying, in it’s self, isn’t all that weird.
What’s weird is that Hange - Hange, with her print-smudged glasses and ratty ponytail and clothes two sizes too big for her - is crying because a boy called her ugly.

Oh, lord, was her only thought as she quickly scrambled for an excuse. “I - Uh - well, sometimes people stare at other people because -” before she could even begin to form a proper sentence, Eren interjected. She wasn’t sure whether to be grateful or dismayed by his actions.
“Is it because you think he’s cute? My friend Ymir stares at my friend Krista that way all the time, she says it’s because she’s so pretty!” Eren babbled happily, oblivious to the way Hange’s grip around the handle of the cart tightened. Theincaprincess request
I'm going to give a big challenge (evil laugh) take as long as you like with this darling, so can I have these?
377. ‘What happened here?” 358. ‘It’s not what it looks like.’ 27 “I want to go home.” “And I want to go to the moon. It ain’t happening sweetheart. Time to accept that.” 99 “Rule number one: don’t bother sucking up. I already hate you, that’s not going to change.” 387 “That’s a little melodramatic, 237. “this is all a fucking disaster.”
With Thranduil paring and throw in a friendship with Thorin just for the drama hahaha please :D and I really don't mind how long it takes darling, so take your time :D <3
Slowly you let out the long exhale you had been holding since arriving in this darkened forest. In the deep warm waters of the hot spring you had been granted in your lavish cell in the Royal Wing you relaxed closing your eyes to the sound of the playing wind up music box you had set up, enjoying the soft tune easing the troubles of your spider infested entrance into these lands. Thorin, for all his attributes had rightly found himself butting heads with the Elven King who had confined each of you inside his keep until Thorin would grant him what he wanted in return for aid. But free from the webs, dead leaves and twigs knotted in your mud caked pale golden hair and softly glowing freshly scrubbed skin you let your body untense completely.
The splash and sigh from another body entering the spring however ended all that and made you turn to the very King that had been just inches from your face not an hour ago. With wide eyes you barked out, “Excuse you!”
A turn of his head widened his eyes in a deep inhale, “Why are you here?! Who are you?!” His eyes scanned over your pale glowing hair and face trying to place you without any luck past the familiar shade of pale blue eyes from the Elleth he had interrogated earlier with deep brown matted hair.
“What am I-?! I am bathing in the room I was gifted! What are you-!”
“Your room?! Clearly you missed the rest of the apartment you walked through to get here! How did you get in here?!”
“I am in the room the guard escorting me back from your interrogation told me was mine! Now you’re just going to have to leave!”
At that his brows furrowed, “I’m going to have to leave?! This is my spring, my Kingdom in fact! You leave!”
“Oh that is not happening!”
His brows tightened another notch as he asked, “Excuse me?!”
“I have spent months bathing with those Dwarves and not once have I been able to gain a moment’s peace since leaving Rivendell, or get a bath without someone trying to climb on my shoulders in some bathing game. So either you leave or you’re just going to have to split it with me because I’m not leaving until I am fully relaxed and ready to sleep.” Your arms crossed over your chest with a glare of your own sitting back on the under water bench as he sent you a fiery glare in return.
“You realize I could have you thrown out of here with one shout to my guards.”
“Yes but then you’ll have to face the fact that you faced an honest mistake with brute force.” Your response made him roll his eyes, “Besides, on top of that You’re naked and wet I bet I could get one good shove in granting me a head start, then it’s only a question of why the naked King is chasing the naked Prisoner through the Palace.” He narrowed his eyes at you through another exhale as you added, “Oh it’s not like you don’t have the room. It’s a good ten feet between us, so you keep your half and I’ll keep mine.”
Without being able to respond his door opened and your heads turned to the Prince walking through the doorway, passing the King’s clothes in a pile on the floor in the hall, “Ada, all the Dwarves are in their apartments and the next wave of patrols are out but-.”
His eyes scanned between you at opposite ends of the spring with his mouth agape under a curious furrow of his brows making the King state, “It’s not what it looks like.”
With a pointed gaze at the Prince you added, “Oh it’s exactly what it looks like.”
Making the King glare at you again, “It is not!”
You added, “Oh it is. I was simply relaxing in what I assumed to be my room and he comes in here all furrowed and puffed up barking orders when I am simply hoping for a moments peace.”
Legolas pointed at his Father, “He is the King.”
“I am not debating that. I am simply questioning the logic behind finding yourself in a tub where a naked woman is already relaxing and increasing the tension purposely.”
Thranduil, “I did nothing of the sort.”
You turned your head to look at him, “Oh but you did, Your Majesty.” His eyes narrowed again at your mock head bow and exaggerated tone through his title.
“As soon as I get out of this spring I’m writing to Lord Elrond asking if you gave him such troubles.”
“Oh! If I had gotten into this situation in Rivendell I wouldn’t know because the Elves were so busy running around trying to get the naked Dwarves back into their assigned courtyard for their instrument lessons.”
“So you’re the group he complained about bathing in his sacred fountains!”
“First!” His eyes lowered to your finger pointing at him for a moment then rose to your eyes again when it sank under the water, “In their defense that fountain is massive. For all they knew it was a manmade lake with a wall around it and a statue in the middle.”
Thranduil, “It had a wall around it! What sort of lakes do you know have walls around it?!”
“Beavers build Dams all the time!”
His eyes narrowed again as the Prince covered his mouth hiding his amused smirk at your argument, “You did not just call Lord Elrond a beaver!!”
Sarcastically you retorted, “Oh yes that’s it word for word what I just said!!! Of course not! I am simply stating dams are a natural occurrences where walls are found around lakes!”
“I am informing him of this!”
“Oh Yes! Please do!! You know what, keep the spring I will search room by room until I find mine just to rid myself of your nonsensical interpretation of my words!” Your hands planted on the edge and you raised yourself up out of the spring where you wrung out your hair meeting the stunned Prince’s eyes, “I do apologize Prince Legolas for your being wrangled into this. I’ll take my things and leave you to your Father’s company.”
Thranduil stated, “You are not taking anything! Your belongings have to be searched!”
In a half turn to him you smirked making the Prince cover his mouth again, “Of course. I will simply walk naked through the Royal Wing until I find my room.”
Before he could say anything you passed the Prince walking to the door making him hop out and wrap himself in his towel, holding his robe as he walked after you gaining the Prince and Tauriel, who eyed you curiously when you opened the door.
Hastily the King stated, “It isn’t what it looks like.”
Again you replied, “It is exactly what it looks like!” Then brushed past her, she stepped aside watching the Royals pass her and joined along with an amused grin as you opened the first door hearing a grunt, “Sorry Nori!” Each door after you stated the names of the Dwarves you encountered.
Thranduil, “Just take my robe!” Glaring at each guard along your cocky strutting path.
“Oh no! I can’t possibly have any cover, I could be hiding something!” By now you had gained the attention of the Dwarves that all popped their heads out of their rooms with amused smirks at the irritated King behind you when they guessed your accidental mix up.
Kili especially draped himself in the doorway of his door nodding his head at Tauriel in his flexing pose in his shirtless state while saying, “Yours is at the end of the hall Lass.” Before glancing at Tauriel to ask, “Here to finish searching me as well?” With a wink she rolled her eyes through.
With a grin you replied, “Thank you Ki.” Making a half turn walking backwards avoiding the robe the King was trying to pass you in your quickening pace, “See, someone at least has the forethought to lead me back finally.” You turned again to the door you hastily opened and stated, “Good Night Your Majesty.”
With a firm slam your door blocked him from you only to have him shout out, “You will not slam doors in my Kingdom!”
Rapidly your door opened and you replied, “And what happens if I do?”
“I will see to it you have no doors to slam.” He replied with a cocky grin.
With a smirk you replied, “Then get used to seeing me naked. You take my doors all my clothes will conveniently go missing along with everyone elses in this wing. If you didn’t mind spending a century with the Company just imagine what secrets their layers have been hiding from those pretty blues of yours.”
His lips parted and you slammed the door again only to have him growl through an exhale, clenching his fists in his turn back to his room barking out, “I will speak to you in the morning when you have come to your senses!”
Opening your door you fired back, “I would say the same to you but it will likely take much longer!” Slamming the door again after his freezing turn to glare back in your direction.
Sharply he drew in another breath muttering to himself ignoring the Dwarves looking on in his storming path back to his apartment as you went to your room finding Bilbo sitting on the chair by the fire in a gifted large robe as he pointed at the gifted gowns on the table to say, “I think I’m in the wrong room.”
You nodded, “Not a problem. I ended up in the King’s room somehow and he just had to get pissy about it.” Making Bilbo smirk as he watched you pull on the gifted clothes before you poked your head out spotting the still lingering Dwarves that guided Bilbo to his proper room after sharing they couldn’t remember their either. All just pulled on the gifted clothes and were waiting until their things were searched and brought to them to clear up where they were supposed to be assigned.
.
By morning you found yourself smirking at the still sternly tensed King that stared at you intently in return trying not to remember your figure under the fully covering gown you had been given to wear. But all the way to nightfall he had downed a bottle of wine in his fury at not getting any farther in convincing you to get Thorin on his side, a mood that soon bubbled over into his people at the Festival of Starlight. But in their inebriated state you managed to find your belongings and an escape route.
Tucked in the barrels you watched the Dwarves and Bilbo roll into the river below, a racing of boots however sent you sprinting across the wooden planks with a set of arms wrapped around your middle holding you in place. At least until your boots met the pillar beside you to kick off of sending the King falling onto his back then through the tilting wooden opening allowing you to crash into the waters below. Angrily and soaking wet the now painfully sober King glared at you as you threw a dagger at the lever holding the gates shut keeping you in the Elven Kingdom’s borders. Facing the King you stated, “Feel free to stay behind.” In your climb into the empty barrel he latched onto.
“You are not going alone! You will get us all killed!”
You raised a brow as he and his gangly limbs tried to squeeze into the same barrel as Tauriel and Legolas dropped in after him with smirks latching onto Bilbo’s and Kili’s barrels they sighed and climbed into as the rapids started to carry you all away. A distant shriek however had your glare drop making the King tense as you murmured, “Get down!” The Dwarves all followed the order, as did Bilbo, with the others following only after your reach down to pull the King’s knees out from under him to get him to hide in the barrel. His shouted argument died at your covering his mouth just moments before the shrill cries of the orc party searching the hills.
A rough jolt however left you slamming against his chest plate with a sharp gasp, black dots filled your vision as your eyes rolled back for a moment making him hold you against his chest when you went limp dropping onto his lap before the next jolt stirred your body to take another breath. Roughly you were slammed around clutching onto each other through the waves of cold water sloshing into and around in the barrel until your final clutching of each other in the stomach churning drop on the final waterfall ending with yet another splash and bob. Frozen together in the barrels you remained until you popped your head up with the help of the King pushing you up by his firm grip on your thighs.
With the all clear they all popped up to paddle to shore where you and the Prince pulled the stuck King out of the barrel. On the shore you all walked as the Dwarves rested, waiting for your scouting results. Behind you the Elves followed as Thranduil stated, “This is just ridiculous!”
In a turn to him you replied, “You were also in that barrel, as was your Son and Captain so take a minute before you start making barrel rider jokes Your Majesty!”
The shifting of rocks turned your head and urged you around the shore ahead where you spotted a Man with a bow drawn and aimed at Ori’s back in his cry of, “What happened here?”
Rapidly he let out a yelp when the rock you picked up crashed into his hand clutching his bow he dropped along with his arrow from the pain. Before he could bend to retrieve it he saw the Elf King glaring at him and two Elves around you with bows drawn and aimed at him making him bow his head stating, “King Thranduil, I did not see you.”
Flatly he stated, “Clearly not.” Stepping up beside you he looked down at him as you claimed his bow, sliding his arrow back into the quiver on his back, “You will take us to Esgaroth.”
Bard wet his lips, “Is the Master expecting you?”
Thranduil drew in a breath, “No, and if he enjoys breathing he should not speak to me today.”
Bard chortled, “I admire the thought but he rarely does as we wish he would Your Highness.”
In a glance at Bard he watched your swatting his hand away from taking his bow back from you that you were clearly holding for ransom. With the barrels loaded up on the boat you all sat around the edge across from the bargeman as Thorin glanced at you on his right to mumble in Khuzdul, “This is all a fucking disaster.”
With a raised brow you replied as you wove your hair into a painfully crooked braid making the Elf King’s brow twitch as he watched your fingers fumbling it together, you replied, “That’s a little melodramatic.”
In a glance between you the Elf King eyed his lean against your side for a nap as you tied a worn bit of woven string around the end of your long braid you eased over your shoulder. For the short ride he kept watch on the Dwarf snoring against your shoulder until he mumbled in Elvish, “In Esgaroth I will send for my men and you will return with us.”
In a glance at him you replied, “Not likely.”
He narrowed his eyes, “I want to go home. It is safe in my lands.”
“And I want to go to the moon. It ain’t happening sweetheart. Time to accept that. And spiders certainly don’t make one feel safe in your lands.” With a sigh he looked you over as you added, “We are continuing on, you are welcome to head home if you wish.”
“I am not leaving you to this alone. Especially with the Master and his band of scoundrels.”
With a smirk you replied, “And what will they do, jump into my tub with me?”
He sighed through a firm gaze at you, “They will try to do far more than that.”
“Then the Bargeman over there will have more room to claim as his own for each Man trying to touch me.”
Firmly he stated, “They wouldn’t dare.”
Curiously Bard looked on eyeing your strange group until he looked ahead to the first station of watchmen all looking on at your group while they filled the barrels in front of you with fish before you made your way to the floating city. Upon docking however all eyes turned to the Elf King when he stood locking eyes on the groveling Man clad in black formerly threatening Bard with dumping the fish out. With a firm glare Thranduil stated, “Rule number one, don’t bother sucking up. I already hate you. That’s not going to change.”
With mouths agape they all watched your group all walking to Bard’s home across the floating city with all eyes following you curiously. Even past the Master you walked past without a word, only a glare from the soaking wet Elf King aimed at the Men daring to look your way. Inside the wooden home you eyed the trio of Children all looking on at you curiously while their Father still tried to take his bow from you again only to have his bruised hand swatted as you said, “Not until you take us to shore.”
His lips parted only to close at the glare from the King silencing him to a nod, “Of course. I will take you first thing in the morning.”
.
Slowly as the sun was setting the Dwarves were sprawled out asleep on every available surface, half dressed as you sat in a warm robe Bard had loaned you as your clothes dried while the Elf King sat wrapped in a towel matching his Son’s as Tauriel were comfortable in clothes borrowed from Bard’s Children. With arms crossed Thranduil glanced at you as you sipped on your tea beside him and asked, “Do you have a plan at least?”
Lowering your mug for a moment you caught his eyes and shrugged making Legolas and Tauriel hide their smirks with their own mugs of tea at the King’s tensing and furrowed brows asking, “Did you just shrug? Tell me you have a plan!”
You turned your head to meet his eyes, “I will see when I get there. Same plan that got us this far.”
His lips parted, “Half naked in a floating ice coated city of Men?! What good does that do us?!”
With a smirk you replied, “Well it got you in a towel again. Good plan so far.” Making his lips part again as Bilbo snorted trying to hold back his laughter between the snickering Elves around him while Bard stole another glance at his bow pinned under your crossed legs as he iced his hand.

Where My Heart Takes Me - iv
Lauren turns quiet. Yes, Lauren is too quiet for her own good if you will ask Camila. But right after she comes back from her talk with that Lucy girl, Lauren becomes even more unbelievably quiet. Before, if she won’t say a word, her eyes will do the talking for her. Right now though, even her green ones seem dull and refuse to make contact to those around her.
Camila respects that, of course. She respects whatever it is that causes the raven-haired to be silent. She respects that Lauren chooses that as an outlet to let out the frustration her encounter with Lucy entails. But she’s not a firm believer that silence is the perfect resort if Lauren wanted to do that.
But it’s just been hours after Lucy showed up so Camila just shrugs her shoulders on it.
A few days later though and Lauren’s still in a foul mood, Camila starts getting concerned. Not that she’s assuming anything. She saw a glimpse of the other lady as Lucy was about to leave and she doesn’t come off as a relative of Lauren’s. And the way Ally, Normani and Dinah reacted to her arrival is so profound that she bets the other girls have all taken offense on whatever Lucy did to the green-eyed. Plus the way Lauren’s been acting adds even more to her suspicions. Yes, Camila’s gay but that’s not the reason she’s thinking what she’s thinking. Although it bids well for her blossoming crush, it’s not in her nature to assume the woman she likes is also into girls. But based from what she’s noticing, Lauren might not be as straight as she initially thought.
Camila thinks she’s too gay to not spot a female acting like a scorned lover of another female.
So, yes, judging on her observations, her chances with Lauren has increased by fifty percent, hoping Lauren will not get fed up with her, but that’s for some deep contemplating for another day. Today, what Camila is most concerned about is getting the raven-haired out of the rut she’s been sulking in.
They are walking home from the diner that afternoon when Camila decides to take a step to resolve it. It’s nothing drastic but she decides to try the best way she knows how. Make Lauren talk it out of her system.
Camila looks down on the ground, stomping her foot harder on twigs laying down the road while she thinks of a good start to their conversation. Truth is, she doesn’t know where to begin. Lauren is still a closed book to her and Camila is barely midway to dusting off the first layer of dirt on her cover. But she knows she has to start somewhere.
“I didn’t know Scotland can be this wonderful.” Camila tries and internally breathes out a sigh of relief when the green-eyed turns her head towards her.
“Well, it’s a beautiful place.” For the first time in days, she hears Lauren talk to her in words not related to her job.
“I mean, I’ve read about this place in books and heard about other people’s amazing experiences but it’s different when I get to experience it first hand.”
Lauren then stays silent so Camila continues. “I enjoy every little thing here. Even just walking like this, with the dust blowing a little, birds chirping atop the trees, it makes me appreciate life more.”
They both stride ahead, steps not faltering and Lauren looks at her again. “You sound like you did not appreciate life before you came here.”
“No, that’s not what I mean. I don’t have anyone else to answer to now. Except you, of course, since you’re the one I work for. It just makes me feel more in control and more free to totally let myself feel and experience my surroundings.” Camila explains, sharing everything she feels at the same time avoiding saying anything at all that will turn the conversation solely about her. Her focus right now is on Lauren and what she feels.
Lauren looks ahead, as if contemplating what she said. “I’ve always needed to be in control. I always was, still is. I have to. For my brother and sister.”
Camila feels a certain sense of pride, having the green-eyed say something like that to her. They’ve come quite a distance since that first night and she’s starting to believe Lauren’s walls is crumbling down around her. At a very slow pace, yes, but they sure are still falling down.
Encouraged, the brunette pushes on. “They’re really sweet. Taylor’s very caring and Chris is really considerate and helpful.”
At that, Lauren looks at her again. “Yeah. Taylor is quite fond of you. And I see you always hanging with Chris when he cooks. I can tell you really like him.”
“What’s not to like? He’s nice and he’s polite.” Camila continues complimenting Lauren’s brother, hoping that it will entice the raven-haired to open up more. When she turns her head towards the other lady, though, she realizes she must have given Lauren the wrong idea.
And not a second passes until the merchant confirms it. “If you like him. Like that. I-I mean, I can tell he likes you, too. And as far as I can tell, you’re a good person. Maybe we can arrange something.”
Camila’s eyes widen at what she hears Lauren say. ‘Did she just - Does she really think I’m into her brother like that?’
“What?! No!” She denies vehemently. “I mean, I like Chris but not in a romantic way. I don’t think it will ever go as deep as that, to tell you the truth.”
She sees Lauren’s brows furrow at her sudden outburst then fade away as she explains. 'This conversation just took the entire opposite direction that I wanted it to.’
“Oh, I’m sorry.”
“No worries. It’s an honest mistake.”
Shaken out of her focus, Camila decides to drop their small talk until they reach the house. Inside, after she changed out of her work clothes into a more comfortable but decent attire, she comes down to the kitchen and finds Lauren already working on their dinner.
Camila swears she has never seen another woman seeming as tireless as the raven-haired. For the short amount of time she has stayed under her care, she has never seen Lauren take an entire day off doing nothing. Sure on Sundays the merchant will stay in the house but even then, a good chunk of hours she spends within the confines of her work chambers, looking at the financial reports of all her dealings.
She takes a seat on the table and watches Lauren get to work.
“Do you want me to get you something?” Camila has her arms propped on the wooden furniture, her back perfectly laid and aligned with the backrest of the chair. Every once in a while, she moves to slouch to watch more closely but a lifetime of habit has her moving back to sit up as straight as she can. She believes she has adjusted well from the lady who is used to getting pampered in any way possible into a simple working girl whose life now is to serve orders to people she doesn’t know and follow requests from the kind persons she’s living with under one roof but some habits are just hard to break. She figures that part of her she can’t change won’t interfere with doing her job right so there is no cause for alarm.
Lauren looks up at her after hearing her question and smiles a little. “No, it’s alright. I’m all good.”
The brunette, catching it as another opening to a conversation leans closer to the table. “You seem like you enjoy cooking and your skills are impressive.”
Lauren smiles another smile, looking flattered at what Camila said. “Thank you. I take after my Mom, I guess.”
Camila is quite taken aback at the mention of the woman. The entire weeks of her stay there, the topic about her never came up, the dinner table conversations consisting mainly of Chris’s jokes and rants about the people he meets while he is out trading and Taylor’s stories about her friends that she sometimes hangs out with during the day. “If you don’t mind me asking, where is she? I never heard you talk about her.”
Lauren finishes chopping the ingredients the exact moment Camila voices out her question. The green-eyed puts down the knife and transfers the vegetables from the chopping board to a plate nearby. She is quiet for a while that Camila thinks she will not answer her. “She’s gone. She died when I was fifteen.”
Lauren stands up and goes to the stove as Camila absorbs the disheartening new knowledge. The shift in her mood is so palpable to Camila so she doesn’t press Lauren any longer.
The only time the lady can say she is somewhat successful in getting through to Lauren and her current predicament is when Lucy comes back to the diner a few days after.
As Camila expected, Lauren’s mood turns sour the moment she lays eyes on the other brunette. One instant she is having a playful banter with Normani and Ally, one of the rare ones she joins nowadays since Lucy’s sudden reappearance, the next there’s a scowl adorning her beautiful face.
Lauren excuses herself immediately and goes inside her office. Lucy, who is walking towards them stops upon seeing the raven-haired flee to the room and takes one of the vacant tables near her, eyes not leaving the door Lauren just closed.
“What does she want this time?” Normani comments, frown visible on her face.
“There’s no way she’s going to get Lauren back, she should have realized that by now.” Ally adds.
The exchanges somewhat confirms Camila’s suspicions. But that doesn’t ease her mind. In contrast to that, she feels even more worried. So she puts down the binder of paper she uses to take down orders in the counter and proceeds to follow Lauren. In her peripheral vision, she sees Lucy raise up from the chair watching her movement.
Pushing the door slightly ajar, she comes upon Lauren standing infront of the small painting inside the office, her back turned against the door. “Lauren?”
The raven-haired doesn’t answer her. Instead, she turns her head down. “Are you alright?”
The green-eyed finally shakes her head in response. “Nothing’s alright, Camila. Nothing’s alright.”
Upon hearing her reply, concern for the other woman immediately resurfaces. Camila quickly walks over to Lauren, aiming to comfort her. She sees tears starting to form in her green eyes and Camila reaches up a hand to wipe them away.
Before she is able to do that, though, the door she remembers she forgot to close opens wider and an unfamiliar yet not unexpected voice comes resounding within the four walls. “Lauren, you need to give me a chance to talk.”
Camila doesn’t have to look to learn who it is. She knows it’s Lucy. And as swiftly as the other brunette is able to speak out the words, Camila’s hand that originally is reaching up for Lauren’s cheeks goes to hold the raven-haired’s nape. And Camila’s not sure what she is trying to accomplish but it seems that her mind is making a decision of its own accord and a second after that, her hand is pulling Lauren down towards her, closer and closer until all she knows is her lips are touching against the other woman’s lips.
Lauren’s mind has been a mess. It has been ever since Lucy tried to re-enter her life, trying to add herself back in the current chapter. The thing is, it has been very recent when she is able to completely remove the brunette from her story. Lucy had been a constant presence in her life, had been there longer than Normani, Ally, and Dinah have been. So when their big fallout happened, it took a while for her to get used to the fact that although Lucy had been there for the past many years of her life, she wouldn’t be there in the future any longer.
So to sum it all up, her life book, which now consists of three parts (Lauren thinks of the first part as Before Lucy; the second as During Lucy; and the third as After Lucy) has always revolved around the brunette.
She thinks of the time she was still an innocent child of seven and younger as the period that she was being prepared to meet the sweet angel, her favorite endearment for her.
The second part she thinks as the period she got to enjoy the happiness Lucy brought to her life. When the brunette’s family moved near her and Lauren was on one of her solo “adventures” as a kid, wandering around the woods near their place and she stumbled upon an adorable little girl around her age crying because she got lost and hated being in the middle of trees, far from other people. To Lauren spending most of the time playing over at Lucy’s house or vice versa. To the time they both realized their relationship wasn’t merely platonic and decided they needed to be more than friends.
The third part, that’s the tricky one. It’s the post Lucy part, it’s understandable to immediately assume there shall be no more mention of the brunette. The second part ended when Lucy left her and Lauren decided it was time for a new part so the current one began but it isn’t that simple. The first chapter of that part, Lauren spent sulking, leaving all responsibilities on the shoulders of her younger brother until she realized a month or so later that Chris didn’t deserve the burden she was giving him at a very young age so she picked herself up from murk. The second chapter is when although she was slowly accepting that Lucy broke her heart, she spent her time thinking of what-might-have-been’s, of the things she could have done differently to change the way they ended things or better yet to make their relationship not end at all, to having questions like: Is it her fault? Could she fix it? And if Lucy tried to communicate, would she want to fix it?
It isn’t until after the third chapter, right after Lauren went through a phase of cursing any possibilities of a romantic relationship with anyone while she tried to go on with her life could she finally say, 'This is it. I can finally move on completely, confidently without my decisions being clouded by the hurt Lucy caused me.’
It is in the fourth chapter when all of the weight of heartbreak has been lifted off her heart, mind, and soul that she starts to be and feel like her old self again. She starts giving herself completely to her work, be the devoted sister to Chris and Taylor, a good friend to Ally, Normani and Dinah, and she even let a stranger into her house.
When she feels the spark of attraction to the new lady, the only reasons she tried to douse it off are: one, they are still basically strangers; two, she thought Camila is attracted to Chris.
That morning and that one a few days ago when she saw Lucy again after years brought back a lot of memories and pain that came along with them. That is one occurence she is not prepared and the turning of chapters hasn’t taught her. So for Lauren, it’s just natural to get her mood and the way she conducts around other people be affected.
So it comes as a pleasant surprise that one person is there, seemingly intent to help her battle the turmoil within herself. She’s not oblivious, Lauren sees the effort Camila puts in to make sure she is feeling alright after that incident. And it may just be out of gratefulness for taking her under her care but Lauren is thankful, nonetheless.
But right now, when she feels Camila’s lips pressed against hers, kissing her, calming her like no other kind words ever could, just right after she heard her ex-lover ask her for another chance Lauren doesn’t care if her mind is in jumbles. All she can focus on is Camila’s softness no matter how brief the contact may have been before they hear the bang of the door being closed forcefully that forces her and Camila to part.
She looks at the door and back to the brown-eyed. Lucy has left, angry more probably at what she witnessed but Lauren doesn’t feel the need to run after her, instead, she wants to continue kissing the woman infront of her.
