The Jet Set TV-16 Airlines Are Improving Passenger Compensation Rights
Many travelers have to deal with the restrictions during the pandemic that includes cancelation of flights, restrictions to many countries, and much more. However, instead of getting their money back after a cancelled flight, passengers received flight credits and this can change for passengers in Europe. Major 16 European airlines committed to improving passenger compensation rights for flight cancelation during the pandemic. Among sixteen main airlines are KLM, Ryan air, Iberia, British Airways, Air France, and Lufthansa. This new commitment includes issuing refunds within 7 days if airway flights were cancelled during the pandemic. This commitment comes after the European Commissions or The European Consumer Rights Protection Groups have discussed essential consumer Rights violations during the pandemic.
Tumblr media
The CEO of BEUC has discussed the massively violated actions of airlines during the pandemic. She also added that many customers around the world are still expecting or waiting for refunds.
The airlines have pledged to increase awareness regarding passenger compensation rights and for now, the airlines committed to distinctive flight cancellations built by airlines from flight cancellations done by passengers.
Tumblr media
Also, passengers will only get vouchers if they insist. The major 16 airlines have committed to notifying the passengers via their websites and emails. They can also use other mediums of communication to inform them about the vouchers, rerouting, and refund.
The EU Commissioner for Justice mentioned that pushing passengers to take vouchers was unacceptable according to human rights and they were acting opposite to EU consumer protection rules. After some of the discussions, they have decided to refund the fares to their customers after the flight cancellation. Now travelers have the option to convert their unused vouchers into cash. And passengers, who will have difficulty in reimbursement as they have bought from an intermediary, can make refunds directly from the airlines. According to Travel Airline News EU, the commissioner for transport has mentioned that they are ready for new commitments for their travelers so that they can gain confidence again.

Severe weather causes travel misery for thousands of air passengers with delays throughout weekend
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the busiest weekends of the year for air travel has begun with widespread disruption for passengers.
Severe weather is being blamed for long delays and dozens of cancellations on flights to and from airports in southeast England.
At Luton airport, the mopping-up operation continues after rain started pouring through the roof of the terminal on Friday afternoon.
We’ll tell you what’s true. You can form your own view.

The airport is telling passengers: “We’ve worked hard to restore airport operations as quickly as possible. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience.”
One round-trip from Luton to Nice on easyJet has been cancelled so far this morning. The airline told passengers at 3am: “We’re very sorry that your flight has been cancelled. We understand that this is late notice but due a lightning strike to two of our planes, we’ve had to make changes to our flying programme and we are unable to operate your flight.
“The disruption is beyond our control and is considered an extraordinary circumstance.”
It adds to the easyJet eight cancellations on Friday evening to and from Luton, including some at very late notice.
Paul McNamara told The Independent on Friday: “EasyJet have surpassed themselves this evening. My three-month-pregnant daughter travelling with her two-year-old is on a cancelled flight to Menorca from Luton.
“Nobody around to tell them what to do as they have passed passport control. All staff seem to have disappeared. I wrote to online customer services who have sent an automated reply that they will get back in 28 days – you couldn’t make it up. The telephone shut at 8pm.”
His daughter was later booked on a British Airways flight from Gatwick on Saturday afternoon, and given a hotel room.
A spokesperson for easyJet said: “Due to adverse weather conditions, easyJet, like other airlines, is experiencing disruption to its flying programme at London Luton Airport.
“As a result of flooding of the immigration area, passenger flow through immigration has been reduced, leading to delays for arriving passengers and which has had a knock-on effect for some departing flights.
“Customers on cancelled flights have been given the option of transferring their flight free of charge or receiving a refund.
“We have also provided hotel rooms and meals for customers who required them and any customers who arranged their own will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses.”
Another dozen easyJet flights between Gatwick and various European locations were grounded on Friday, with severe weather and air traffic control restrictions blamed for some short-notice cancellations.
Flights connecting Amsterdam with Manchester and Southend were also cancelled.
One passenger stranded in Amsterdam by easyJet on Friday evening tweeted on Saturday morning: “Finally home. My flight from Amsterdam to London was cancelled yesterday evening, @easyJet abandoned the desk without sorting everybody out, including me. Managed to get a flight for this morning with the lovely @British_Airways. But EJ be expecting the claims and complaints.”
Disruption at easyJet has continued on Saturday morning. A round-trip from Bristol to Amsterdam was grounded “due to a crew member being unable to operate your flight”.
An inbound flight from Madrid to Gatwick was cancelled “because of air traffic control restrictions causing long delays yesterday”.
Passengers were told: “This means your plane it’s out of position and it’s not able to operate you flight [sic].” They were warned they would not qualify for cash compensation for the cancellation.
Some flights to and from Heathrow have been cancelled or severely delayed, particularly on British Airways.
BA has so far cancelled eight flights into Heathrow, as a result of problems on Friday, and its sister airline Iberia has grounded a round-trip from and to Madrid.
At Heathrow, British Airways passengers from Dubai arrived 17 hours late. A Friday night flight from Edinburgh is currently delayed by 16 hours, while a flight from Shanghai due in at 6.15am on Saturday morning is 24 hours behind schedule.
One BA service from Munich to London City has been diverted to Southend.
BA cancelled nearly 200 flights on Wednesday and Thursday as a result of an IT systems failure.
Security staff at Barcelona airport are staging a 24-hour strike, but the government has mandated that staff maintain 90 per cent of the usual level of cover and no delays are yet reported.

Updates
I reopened my Chase Freedom account. Since it was less than 30 days ago that I requested to close it, I won’t have a hard inquiry on my credit report
After reading up on The Points Guy, I found out that I can maximize the points I earn for Chase by combining my Chase Freedom with the Chase Sapphire Reserve
I’m taking a test (that I haven’t studied for) this weekend in hopes that I’ll pass, have national board certification for my position, and will receive an additional stipend at work next year and every following year
Unfortunately the test is 3 hours away so I’m driving straight there after work on Friday and staying in a hotel overnight
I purchased a one-way ticket to Barcelona for next February. I was going to purchase the return ticket however I’m planning to fly to Paris after a couple of days and perhaps fly home from Paris. I’m flying there on Iberia, a budget airline that only cost me $200 one-way. The round trip price is less than what it would take me to get to New Orleans! I’m so excited- this will be my first trip to Europe!
I’ve already received my tax refund. It’s only been a week! I’m transferring the amount to my savings today

Supermarket Hours and Businesses that Maintain Online Service: A Business Guide to Coronavirus | Economy
Calle Preciados, Madrid, empties the day of the declaration of the state of alarm.David Expósito
The coronavirus outbreak forces the population to confine themselves to their homes and has led to the closure of thousands of businesses throughout Spain. Meanwhile, companies from all sectors have announced measures that aim to guarantee the supply of basic products and contribute to the respect of the prevention regulations ordered by the authorities. This is the companies' guide to the pandemic:
Supermarkets and distribution chains
Mercadona
The president of the chain, Juan Roig, sent a message of calm in the first days of the health crises and his website insists on this line: “In our supermarkets we continue to receive products every day,” he said in a brief statement. The hours of all the centers have been reduced: they operate from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. According to its website, the 'online' purchase has home delivery in Valencia and Barcelona from 7 to 22 hours.
The English Court
El Corte Inglés keeps its supermarket and hypermarket services open. The hours have also been reduced: they operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Online and telephone sales services have been reinforced and home deliveries are free for purchases over 120 euros (if paid with your loyalty card, this amount drops to 100 euros). The establishments have enabled new supply and order delivery areas in their parking areas to facilitate the collection of online purchases, the service called Click & Car.
Day
“The online service could be affected due to the increase in orders,” reports Dia on its website. The company claims to have reinforced its logistics capacity by 150%, with the hiring of more workers, to face the increased demand online. In physical stores, the hours have been reduced from 10 to 20 hours. For purchases on the web, home delivery is made using a secure protocol: with gloves and a mask, keeping the safety distance and with an electronic signature. It is also possible to buy online and pick up the purchase in store.
Carrefour
The chain's more than 1,000 stores are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. For online purchases, Carrefour prioritizes the use of this channel to the most needy groups (older people, people with disabilities, people with reduced mobility, people in quarantine and pregnant women). A message asks that nobody use that channel if it does not belong to one of those groups.
Eroski
Its supermarkets open at normal hours and, to the usual protection measures, it has added the installation in some stores of protective screens on the boxes. The website allows you to make purchases online and remember that you can also make a phone order for fresh products and then go to pick them up at the store already prepared.
Lidl
Its supermarkets are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., they only allow one person per family to enter and they limit the capacity to 50 people. For online shopping, no special measures are specified, beyond the general recommendation not to buy more things than are needed.
Auchan
The chain has not announced any schedule changes in its supermarket brands (Alcampo, Simply). On its website, it warns of delays in home delivery problems and remembers that it is also possible, in some cases, to make the purchase online and pick it up at the physical store.
Fast food chains
Telepizza
Telepizza has closed all its own stores in Spain and recommends the same measure to its franchisees. It will continue to offer its home delivery service and has developed a contactless delivery protocol for this. Customers can place orders through the web and the mobile application, paying by bank card and receiving the product without contacting the delivery person at the door of their homes.
Burger King
The fast food chain has announced the closure of all its establishments in the Iberian Peninsula, but you can order food at home
Other shops
Manzana
The American technology giant has announced the closure of Apple Stores around the world. The only country to get rid of that measure is China, where stores have already closed in February and have started to reopen, once the Asian country considers that the worst phase of the coronavirus outbreak has been overcome.
Inditex
Zara's parent company has decided to close all stores in Spain. In addition to Zara stores, the measure includes the rest of its brands: Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, Zara Home and Uterqüe. The online sales channel is maintained.
Adolfo Dominguez
The Spanish brand closed its stores in Madrid on Friday March 13, a measure expanded a day later to the whole of Spain. The web operates normally.
Kiabi
The 55 establishments of the French fashion chain in Spain will remain closed “until the authorities until the health and government authorities consider it”. The website will operate normally but will extend the return terms.
FNAC
The French chain of cultural and technological products has closed all its stores in Spain “in firm compliance with the measures adopted by the authorities” and recalls that its online store will operate 24 hours.
Tendam
The Cortefiel group, which also includes the Pedro del Hierro, Springfield, Women’secret and Fifty brands, has closed all its stores in Spain. Online sales channels are maintained.
Tourism and transportation
Renfe
The public railway operator offers free changes and reimbursement of all its tickets until April 30. In non-refundable fares, the payment is made through the equivalent of the cost of the ticket in loyalty points, with which you can buy another route for three years, or with a return code, valid until December 31. The measure takes effect on March 16, but passengers who had tickets between March 9 and March 15 and were unable to travel can also take advantage of it. For those who have subscriptions (AVE Bonus, Flexible Bonus and Collaborative Bonus) their duration will be extended for an additional 60 days.
Iberia
The airline has relaxed its policy of modifications and allows to change the flight dates of all tickets issued before March 11 to return between March 1 and April 30. Passengers can request a new flight date until November 30 or request a voucher for the amount of the ticket that can be used until December 31.
Ryanair
The Irish airline offers the option to request a refund or to modify its flights canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak, which include all routes to Italy until April 8. Its website informs about all the travel restrictions in force and the procedure to change or request the return of a ticket.
Norwegian
The company warns of long waits due to the large volume of requests to change flights it is receiving. For this reason, it requests that only customers who have a flight with them in the following three days are contacted. As in the rest of the airlines, the casuísitca is very extensive depending on the restrictions approved by the different countries.
Air Europe
The company has been forced to cancel numerous flights until the end of April and offers different exchange and refund options on its website depending on the canceled route. In addition, as a general rule, it recommends all its travelers to check the status of their flight before going to an airport.
Norwegian Cruise Lines
The cruise company (under the Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas brands) has canceled all its routes with departures between March 13 and April 11. Affected users will receive a ticket refund or a 125% credit on the price paid to make another cruise until December 31, 2022.
Disney
The animation and entertainment factory announced the closure of Disneyland Paris, as well as all its theme parks in the United States during the month of March. Customers who plan to arrive before June 1 at the Parisian park, may make changes to their reservation or cancellations at no cost until April 15.

Blue Skies Ahead for Cheap Flights, But Read the Fine Print
Turbulence in the budget airline industry continues to be expected. But for savvy leisure travelers looking for international flights, there are more ups than downs right now.
First, the downs. Norwegian Air threw a wrench into cheap trans-Atlantic flight options this summer by announcing the cancellation of six routes between Ireland and North America. The decision, effective Sept. 15, was blamed on the worldwide grounding of the Boeing 737 Max after two deadly crashes involving the aircraft. According to a news release, 18 of the discount carrier’s fleet were affected, making the Ireland routes “no longer commercially viable.”
Earlier this year another budget airline, WOW Air, went bankrupt. (An American company, USAerospace Associates, recently purchased its assets and will attempt to relaunch the airline, initially as a freight-only carrier.)
And yet, “it’s the golden age of cheap flights,” said Scott Keyes, who by his estimation has visited 48 countries. He co-founded Scott’s Cheap Flights, a travel site that alerts members when deals pop up.
“We regularly find $300 round-trip flights to Europe, which did not exist five years ago,” Mr. Keyes, 32, said.
The Barcelona-based carrier Level, for instance, recently showed flight deals on its website from Newark to Paris on select dates in October for $149 one way. Round-trip from Boston to Barcelona featured a promotional price of $350. The two-year-old, low-cost brand is owned by International Airlines Group and flights are mostly operated by Iberia.
More major airlines are getting in on the act. Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) recently introduced SAS Go fares for travel to Europe. In August, the company ran a sale on round-trip routes from several cities in the United States to Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm for under $400. A recent search showed a low-price calendar with dates listing flights in November from Newark to Oslo for $340 round trip, a meal included.
Depending on the airline, return flights are sometimes pricier, an extra $30 or more. Ancillary fees are where it can really add up on no-frills carriers. Concerning luggage, Read the fine print on weight restrictions and maximum dimensions. One personal item and a carry-on bag might be included in the price, but in some cases can’t weigh more than 8 kilograms (about 17 and a half pounds). With economy fares, a checked bag can cost upward of $40 to $60 and double that if you pay at the airport. Also expect charges for seat selection, headsets, pillows, food and water. Print out your boarding passes since there can be a charge for that, too. And don’t expect a refund if you have to cancel your flight.
Eurowings, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, is headquartered in Cologne, Germany, and currently flies from Germany to airports in Newark, New York City, Miami, Fort Myers, Fla., and Las Vegas. A recent search on its website turned up a one-way basic fare in November from Newark to Düsseldorf, Germany, for $229.99. In December, Miami to Dresden, Germany, is advertised for $267.55 one way. Next summer, the Lufthansa Group is expanding its long-haul routes. Phoenix and Anchorage will connect with Frankfurt, Germany’s largest hub. Seattle, Detroit and Orlando, Fla., will have bargain flights to Munich.
Another budget-conscious airline greasing the wheels on the runways for overseas flights is JetBlue, which plans in 2021 to usher in multiple daily connections between New York City, Boston and London. More European destinations are likely. A news release in June announced that the company had purchased 13 fuel-efficient Airbus A321XLR aircraft to expand trans-Atlantic options. And while Norwegian Air is retreating on its routes across the Atlantic, the company recently filed a request to operate flights between the United States and Argentina.
Low-cost trans-Pacific travel via AirAsia X is expanding as well. “A bit of a beachhead is forming in Hawaii, and we’ve seen flights from Honolulu to Osaka for $199 round-trip,” said Mr. Keyes of Scott’s Cheap Flights. Jetstar, a subsidiary of Qantas, is flying between Honolulu and Sydney for as low as $286 round-trip, he said.
Interested in heading to Latin America? Sample fares on Interjet, a Mexican airline, recently included New York City to Mexico City from $129 one way, and Dallas to Lima from $177 one way.
To compete with budget carriers, Delta, American and United have their own stripped-down fares. American Airlines recently offered an economy fare from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Barcelona for $307 round-trip in October. It had a long layover in Helsinki on the return flight, but frugal travelers might be willing to make sacrifices for a price like that.
When Booking Your Flight
The main money hack is to book as far ahead as possible.
Comparison shopping on Kayak, Google Flights, Expedia and other sites tend to yield similar results since they pull from the same data sources.
Besides Scott’s Cheap Flights, Gary Leff’s travel blog, View From The Wing, is another valuable resource for deals and news.
Budget airlines don’t always fly to certain destinations daily, so if you miss your flight, or if it’s canceled, it can be a disaster. Stranded passengers may not be accommodated on allied airlines as they would be on legacy carriers.

Who Wins? Chase Sapphire Reserve Benefits or the Amex Platinum Benefits?
Two premium credit cards every luxury traveler probably have considered are the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Platinum Card from American Express. While the Amex Platinum is known for being benefits-rich, the Chase Sapphire Reserve benefits might be a better option based on your travel habits. After all, a premium travel rewards card is only as valuable as its benefits, right?
Tumblr media

Link: Chase Sapphire Reserve
What Benefits Both Cards Have In Common
Before we look at how the Sapphire Reserve benefits can be different let’s first look at which travel benefits the Sapphire Reserve and Amex Platinum have in common:
Besides the Global Entry application fee reimbursement, there are some nuances in the other three shared benefits as each card has their own unique twist that may make you prefer one card to the other. For example, Chase Ultimate Rewards and American Express Membership Rewards have different travel transfer partners. Also, you get access to Centurion lounges with the Amex Platinum.
$300 Annual Travel Credit
The Chase Sapphire Reserve has a $300 annual travel credit that can be used for any travel-related purchase even plane tickets. If a purchase qualifies for the 3x travel category purchase rewards, the credit can be redeemed for that purchase.
With the Amex Platinum, you receive a $200 air travel credit and $200 in Uber credits each year. Having an extra $100 in travel credits can offset the Amex Platinum’s $550 annual fee if you ride Uber on a regular basis because you receive a monthly $15 Uber credit ($35 in December) that doesn’t roll over. And, the Amex air travel credit only covers incidental fees like checked baggage and in-flight purchases for one airline.
Even though the Sapphire Reserve travel credit is $100 less, the only way to not use the credit is if you don’t travel period. Chase reimburses you for your first $300 in travel purchases each year regardless of what the purchase is for so you’ll never have to worry about not maximizing the credit.
Airport Lounge Access
It’s no secret the Amex Platinum is extremely friendly to frequent flyers
You only get complimentary access to the Priority Pass Select lounge network with the Chase Sapphire Reserve. There are more than 1,000 location locations worldwide so most airports will have a lounge, but the Amex Platinum gives you access to these three additional lounge networks:
Delta SkyClub
The Centurion Lounge Network
International American Express
The only way to access Delta SkyClub for free is if you’re flying on an active Delta itinerary.
Although the American Express-owned Centurion Lounge and International American Express are some of the highest rated lounge networks, there are currently only 16 locations.
Tumblr media
American Express Centurion Lounge at LAS Vegas
Your only option might be a Priority Pass lounge if you don’t fly Delta or pass through an airport with a Centurion or International American Express Lounge. If that’s the case, either card can be a toss-up when it comes to airport lounges.
Hotel Benefits
There are very few hotel benefits to speak of with the Sapphire Reserve other than the four 1:1 hotel travel partners:
Hilton
IHG
Marriott
World of Hyatt
You can receive special amenities and discounts at over 900 properties in the Luxury Hotels and Resorts Collection.
Unless you stay at these high-end properties, the Amex Platinum has better hotel perks including elevated SPG and Hilton Honors membership status.
Rental Car Privileges
When it comes to rental cars, the Sapphire Reserve has a slight edge for the following reasons:
Primary Rental Car Collision Damage Waiver Coverage
Special discounts and upgrades with Avis, National, and Silvercar
American Express only offers secondary rental car CDW coverage and special relationships with Avis, Hertz, and National.
While your rental car will hopefully never be involved in an accident or attempted theft, Chase’s primary coverage will kick in before your personal insurance benefits do which can save you some money during the claims process.
Travel Protection Benefits
The Sapphire Reserve benefits also come with several trip protection benefits when your travel plans get changed due to weather, sickness, and other carrier delays:
Non-refundable travel expenses reimbursed up to $10,000
Essential purchases for travel delays of 6 hours or more reimbursed up to $500 per ticket
Damaged or lost luggage claims reimbursed up to $3,000 per passenger
1:1 Travel Partners
Besides the complimentary travel benefits and credits, 1:1 point transfers are also extremely valuable. Both American Express and Chase have 1:1 travel partners and your preference will depend on which airlines you fly.
There are a few more Amex airline travel partners, but here’s a current list of all the Chase air travel partners:
Aer Lingus AerClub
British Airways Executive Club
Flying Blue Air France-KLM
Iberia Plus
Korean Air Skypass
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards
United MileagePlus
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
Tumblr media
Transferring Ultimate Rewards points to travel partners can help keep points active.
If you fly these airlines on a regular basis or can book partner flights through your frequent flyer account for the non-Chase Ultimate Rewards partners to still booker a cheaper reward flight than booking directly through the airline.
Many Sapphire cardholders transfer their points to a travel partner to make each point more valuable. If you decide to redeem them through Chase, each reward point is worth 1.5 cents each for all award travel. With Amex, rewards points are worth 1 cent each for airfare and less than 1 cent for non-air travel.
Since the Sapphire Reserve earns 3x points on all travel and dining purchases, it can be extremely easy to rack up the points to achieve award travel sooner. The Amex Platinum does give you 5x on airline purchases made directly with the airline, which is a great benefit.
When The Sapphire Reserve Benefits Are Better
The Sapphire Reserve benefits are better in the following instances:
You want a flexible $300 travel credit
Cannot maximize the American Express $200 Uber credit
Only visit Priority Pass airport lounges
Prefer the Chase Ultimate Rewards 1:1 travel partners or 50% point redemption bonus
Want additional trip protection benefits
With the Sapphire Reserve, you receive fewer benefits that are more flexible to use. Having fewer benefits also makes it easier for Chase to only charge an annual fee of $450. If you can’t use the extra Amex Platinum benefits, save the $100 and apply for the Sapphire Reserve. The annual fee on the Amex Platinum is $550.
When The Amex Platinum Benefits Are Better
The Amex Platinum is intended for frequent flyers because of the 5x air travel purchase rewards and additional air travel benefits. But, purchase rewards aren’t the only reason to apply for the Amex Platinum if you fly regularly:
Can visit the Delta SkyClub, Centurion Lounge, or International American Express
Stay at SPG, Hilton, or FINE Hotels and Resorts
Spend at least $15 on Uber rides most months
Check bags or make in-flight purchases to use the $200 air travel credit
Prefer the Amex Membership Rewards travel partners like Delta, Emirates, and Etihad
The Amex Platinum benefits do a better job at making your flight and layover more comfortable if you already spend money each year to join several lounge networks. The Centurion Lounges are the nicest lounges available domestically. You can also enjoy additional hotel perks if you stay at a Starwood or Hilton property.
Summary Chase Sapphire Reserve Benefits or Amex Platinum Benefits
Both the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Amex Platinum are excellent travel rewards cards. You need to look at your travel habits and see if they align better with the Sapphire Reserve or Amex Platinum. Or, you may just choose the Sapphire Reserve because of the smaller annual fee and flexible rewards options.
