Tetsuo Gotō passes away aged 68

It is Cult Faction’s sad duty to report that anime voice actor Tetsuo Gotō has passed away after battling esophageal cancer.

  His most recent works included Universe 10’s Kaiōshin Gowasu in the Dragon Ball Super television series, Horikawa Kou in Princess Principal, Bizeff in Hunter × Hunter and Gangi Kozō in Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan.

Algunos yokai que dibujé en estos días. 1. kinchō-danuki/金長狸: este personaje nace de una historia en una mansión, se dice que un hombre llamado mankichi fue poseído por un Tanuki para agradecer a los humanos el que le dejarán quedarse en la mansión además les dió la gracia de que su negocio prosperara. 2. Beto-beto san/ベトベトさん (espíritu pegajoso): se dice que cuando uno camina durante la noche y empieza a escuchar pasos atrás suyo, debe hacerse a un lado y decir <<pase usted primero Beto beto san>> Se dice que una mujer se topó con este Yokai, le prestó su farolillo y al día siguiente le fue devuelto como dictan los buenos modales. 3.Kyōkotsu 狂骨 (huesos locos): este Yokai surge desde el fondo de un pozo. No se sabe si es alguien que se cayó a un pozo o de alguien al cual maratón y arrojaron a uno. Las personas que son poseídas por este ser experimentan un salvaje resentimiento a los demás 4. Gangi kozō 岸涯小僧 (muchacho de la costa): este Yokai vive en la orilla del mar, su nombre. También puede escribirse con los ideogramas de arbol y de ganso. "Gangi" es un tipo de Serrucho circular, el cual es semejante a la boca de este ser. Cuando los pescadores lo ven, le arrojan el más barato de sus peces para distraerlo. The “Yōkai” Art of the Master

Toriyama Sekien is the pen name for Sano Toyofusa (1712–88), a woodblock print artist active in the mid–Edo period (1603–1868). He was a pioneering teacher and creator of ukiyo-e prints, developing new techniques and training famed artists including Toyoharu, founder of the Utagawa school, and Kitagawa Utamaro. Today, though, he is best remembered for his four compendiums of yōkai illustrations—Gazu hyakki yagyō (1776; The Illustrated Demon Horde’s Night Parade), Konjaku gazu zoku hyakki (1779; The Illustrated Demon Horde from Past and Present, Continued), Konjaku hyakki shūi (1781; More of the Demon Horde from Past and Present), and Hyakki tsurezure bukuro (1784; A Horde of Haunted Housewares). We asked Isami Romero, who translated Sekien’s yōkai collections as Guía ilustrada de monstruos y fantasmas de Japón, and Matt Alt and Yoda Hiroko, who translated them as Japandemonium Illustrated,  to talk about the artist, his art, and the influence he continues to wield in the contemporary era.
