Social Media Submission: Summer in the City // 10 Things To Do in SLC
Temperatures on Monday (June 1st) are supposed to hit the mid 80s! Which means that I’m tossing the official calendar aside and declaring this week to be the start of summer! (solstice or not!)
I love this city, but especially during the summer. When the sun is warm, the sky is blue and the mountains are green, all seems to be right in the world!
Unfortunately, every year summer seems to slip by all too quickly :(
Which is why I plan to savor every moment of this summer, and make sure I hit up all of my favorite things over the next 3 months!
I figured I can’t be the only one who feels this way, so here is a quick list I compiled of my top 10 favorite things to do in SLC in the summer
(1) Stroll the downtown farmers market
I love love love the farmers market! (yep, 3 loves.) Budget at least 1.5 hours to wander around the stalls, sample products and buy fresh produce. Then you have to stop and get a bite to eat at one of the many delicious food stands! I usually eat middle eastern food and sip on mint limeade! Also, there is a professional trapeze set up, $5 for one session. So fun to somersault off the bar and land in the net.
Every Saturday @ Pioneer Park starting July 18th
(2) Hang out with some orangoutangs at the Hoggle Zoo
The zoo has all kinds of animals, but the primates are my absolute favorite! Be sure to check out the orangoutangs, chimps, gorillas, and more!
pro tip: the zoo is open until 6:30pm, go around 5 when it is less crowded and the sun isn’t beaming down so powerfully. when it’s hot out the animals like to sleep during the day, but they wake up around 5 for dinner, so you’ll get the best animal spotting too!

(3) Hike Donut Falls
This waterfall hike up Big Cottonwood Canyon is only a 25 min drive from SLC and is the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The trail is very family friendly, mostly flat, really short (about 1mile), and accessible to all ages! I’ve seen everyone from babies to grandmas on that trail. Just be prepared for your shoes to get wet if you want to get close to the falls.
(4) Go to a concert at Red Butte Gardens
This beautiful outdoor amphitheater is nestled up at the base of a mountain in SLC and is an awesome venue for a relaxed summer concert! Concert goers usually pack picnics, and spread out their blankets on the lawn. It’s always a good time. Tickets go fast though, so be sure to pick up yours soon!

(5) Attend the Utah Arts Festival
One of the biggest festivals of the year! Utah Arts Festival is NOT to be missed! This downtown festival has food vendors, live performances, hundreds of artists, children’s activities, films, crafts, and more! You have to buy a ticket at the gate, but they’re worth it.
June 25th — June 28th @ Library Sq / Washington Sq
(6) Score some major (league) points
Real Salt Lake (RSL) is Utah’s beloved Major League Soccer team! Everyone loves going to their games during the summer. Be sure to cheer really loud and their mascot Leo the Lion might even pay you a visit!
(7) Spend a morning at the public library
It sounds lame, I know, but check out this library! It’s unlike any other library I’ve seen before. It’s beautiful and huge, so you can really explore. Be sure to take the glass elevator all the way up to the top floor though and check out the rooftop garden!
located at 210 E 400 S
(8) Take me out to the ball game
The Bees are Salt Lake’s minor league baseball team and it wouldn’t be a real summer in America without going to a ball game, right?! Eat a giant soft pretzel, or some cotton candy while you watch! Then, if you go on the right day, you might even be able to catch a firework show!

(9) Feast at the food truck league
20+ food vendors come together for a night of awesome food and live music! Every week the food trucks rotate, so there’s always something new to taste! My favorites are the wood fired pizza and waffles!
Monday nights @ Sugarmont Plaza in Sugarhouse
(10) Bike around the city
Not only is it good for the environment and good for you, but it’s also a beautiful and convenient way to see the downtown area of Salt Lake. You can rent a GREENBike at any one of their many stations located downtown!

If you have questions or want to add your own ideas of what I missed on my list (I’m sure there is a lot!!) feel free to comment below.
In the meantime I’ll be boxing up my sweaters and slathering on some sunscreen!
cheers to summer!
