In the Darkness Music has always been the light. I know it sounds cheesy and cliche, but it's the truth music saved me. It doesn't matter the genre it revives parts of me that were decaying. i know things are wrong when I don't want to listen to music. i spent 7 years sober without music and drugs. and alcohol. boy was I dead. i never felt so much like a ghost as i did for those years. there were flickering memories but no heartbeat. my dad wanted me to go to school he was going in debt trying to make it happen. The house in pickwick was wasted in hospital bills, beers and hookers. i miss my dad, he was trying to save me while my suicidal mother didn't know how. were all broken you see, just shards of glass with the reflection of our actions, our words.

 We have been fortunate to have some wonderful partners in our lives to be on this journey with.  Bryan, and his wife Cindy, just celebrated their 15-year anniversary this past weekend, so we figured maybe a good topic would be to share what Cindy has meant to him, and Robin to me.  These two ladies have certainly made us better throughout the years and it would be an interesting rabbit hole to go down talking about what if? I don’t either one of us would know where we would be without them so a big thank you to our better halves – you both make us want to be better each day.    

 Bryan treated his taste buds to a Williamsport, PA beer from New Trail Brewing Company’s Hazy IPA. Mike, coming off a weekend celebrating his nephew’s bachelor party, was hydrating with some water and a Mango Bubly 😊

 How’d we get here?

 The Ultra Dad’s Podcast came from an idea Cindy Shane created.  Well, she planted the idea in our head after listening to the first time Bryan was on the RFP Podcast in May 2020.  There have many times over the years when we speak on the phone or in person the “we should be recording this” line comes out.  Well, here we are jumping in with both feet, like we tend to do, sharing with you our perspectives on life.  Let’s be candid – we are not perfect, and we fail often. Our favorite term to use is “it’s not ideal” and there have been countless times we’ve uttered, “a plan is great until you are punched in the face;” – but we do laugh a lot, at ourselves and/or each other mostly 😊.  All that said, there are those brief moments where things tend to fall into place and we, somehow, make it to that finish line – as ultrarunners yes, but most importantly has husbands, fathers, friends, and human beings.  We wanted to share those imperfections and those incredible moments that we’ve been fortunate enough to experience together over the last 30+ years.  So, sit back, grab a cold one, and hopefully this will be another time where things fall into place.

Mark and Kendra King

After a day at the track, Kendra and Mark were introduced by a mutual friend named Tracy. Mark accused Kendra of being a narc and after a “smart ass remark” as my dad recalls, he started chasing my mom. For months my mom dodged my father calls, finally she agreed to a quick date. My father had been recently divorced and had a 5 year old son named William, that to me became my older brother Billy.  After a year of dating and a 4th of July party, I was born the follow year on March 27th, 1996. Davin Jones and Alexandra King

Spent over 2 years being friends. After a trial of hiding feelings, Alexandra (me) said “ You should just date me instead.” Ever since February 13th, 2016 we have been consistently dating. We have rescued a cat together, supported each other through Crohn’s flare ups, cancer, and toured parts of the U.S. We are currently living together in Germantown and coming up on our one year anniversary.
