Miraglia's giallo The Night Evelyn Came Out Of The Grave (aka La Notte Che Evelyn Usci Dalla Tomba). The film is as mad as its title; Evelyn is dead before it starts and her previously institutionalized husband Alan, who has begun to murder strippers as a form of therapy, is duped by his cousin who wants to rid of his heir. Oh, and there's the matter of Evelyn's resurrection and a whole dose of other murders - it's unreal. Adding to the surrealism of the situation is Nicolai's deranged score that mixes super effective jarring orchestral with electronic effects and speed jazz that has truly disconcerting time signatures. It's absolutely creepy and utterly terrifying with queasy quivering synthesizers that sound like an entire waves of insects and the juxtaposition of a fantastic bass line with a sawing string effect that is just sickening. And then there's the beautiful typical romantic giallo melody that really stands out, with vocals courtesy of the iconic Edda Dell'Orso. NoShame Films

Mostly a giallo in its execution, THE NIGHT EVELYN CAME OUT OF THE GRAVE was passed off as a horror film to U.S. drive-ins (with a poster depicting a skull-faced lingerie babe holding a decapitated head) and was later a staple of late-night TV, albeit numerous edits. Released theatrically by Phase One (apparently, a one-shot distribution arm of AIP), the mix of kink, weirdness and supernatural cheats has had a disappointing history of releases on VHS, as well on budget DVDs, that is until now. Director Miraglia’s follow-up, THE RED QUEEN KILLS 7 TIMES was released in the U.S. by Cannon in 1976 as BLOOD FEAST, and has never before been legitimately issued on video here. Joining the two titles together for a double-disc set entitled, “The Emilio Miraglia Killer Queen Box Set,” NoShame Films’ brilliant limited edition clear-cased packaging showcases a novelty “Red Queen” figure, and the superb transfers live up to the company’s continuing high standards
