Anna Cora Mowatt, Armand, and the Silver Vase
Anna Cora Mowatt, Armand, and the Silver Vase
Inasmuch as Anna Cora Mowatt is known in the U.S. today (and when I say “known” –yes- I do mean by you, me, and a handful of students who have a theatre history quiz next week) it is as being the author of the play, “Fashion.” However, she had a second show, “Armand” , that was actually a bigger hit than her first and achieved international success. Unlike “Fashion,” though, that drama’s…

TEACHER EMPOWERMENT
Kabir in his famous DOHA expressed the view that it is the respect and obedience towards one’s GURU leads one to GOD.
We the teachers should remember that teaching is a divine job–partnership with God.
For a teacher a school is his temple, the students its deities and teaching his relentless offering. Whilst indulging in this act of reforming society the teacher realizes that this is the only vocation that has the power to transform.
A teacher should be an instrument of inspiration and should heal.
A truly empowered teacher with role as mentor can channelize the resource in a child and make him the owner of a sound mind and body.
A good teacher becomes a master teacher when they accept that it is okay to make a mistake, reflect over what happened and make the change to improve for the next time.
According to Edward Bulwar Lytton “ The best teacher is the one who suggests rather that dogmatizes, and inspires his listener with the wish to teach himself.”
Teacher are no more knowledge providers since variety of books, internet, newspapers, television etc, are more easily accessible and available for the learner.
Intellectual obesity that is a result of role learning is no longer a mark of intelligence.
Instead, the teacher has to become a facilitator by helping the student to know how to absorb and use the right type and amount of knowledge.
1. Have faith in their ability to influence student’s learning and overall growth
2. Exercise academic freedom and power over instructional processes that decide what to teach, how to teach, what to test and how to test etc.
3. Develop a realistic sense of self – work and actively participate in routine and non – routine school matters.
4. Commitment to lifelong learning.
Have good citizen skills and a global outlook
5. Act as a mentor to students and colleagues.
6. Engage in cooperative activities that promote better congeniality and be a team builder.

A Dark and Stormy Night in the Kiddie Pool It's a highlight of my year---plopping my ass down in a Victorian wingback with a frosty beverage and basking in the brilliant badness of the winning entries in the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest---named after Edward “It was a dark and stormy night” Bulwar-Lytton as "a whimsical literary competition that challenges entrants to compose the opening sentence to the worst of all possible novels." The Class of 2017 was just announced by the English department at San Jose State University. A sample: The choreography was perfect, the lyrics whimsical, leading me to believe that this trip down the Yellow Brick Road was planned from the start, and if that is true, the death by house of the Witch of the East was no accident. — Douglas A. Bass, Farmington, New York ---D. Bass (Children's Literature) The Fall leaf, resplendent in red, gold, and purple, fluttered gently to the ground in front of her; and she knew that Winter was on Fall's heels: soup simmering gently in the crock pot, the snowy night sky reflecting city lights in a color vaguely reminiscent of Donald Trump's hair, while gently falling snow muffled city sounds like a gag on a narcissist. ---J. Mayfield (Purple Prose) As he lay dying on the smoke-wreathed battlefield, General Winthrop finally realized the terrible toll the war had taken, and he wondered if the bloodshed had all been for naught as he exhaled his last breath in a sort of "meoooooh," actually very similar to the sound his cat Mister Jingles made when he wanted some food or was doing that thing with the drapes. ---M. Christensen (Adventure) Although the public’s initial concerns about artificial intelligence and the “internet of things” had been troubling, its eventual ability to embrace those advances only underscored the greatness of America, mused Hoover Upright LXI as he took the oath of office to become the first cordless vacuum cleaner elected to Congress. ---G.A. Lundberg (Science Fiction)
