Gabriela Hearst is one of New York's most influential designers, known for her elegant collections that focus on sustainability which is at the core of the brand. Last September, Hearst staged the first carbon-neutral fashion show during New York Fashion Week, minimising its carbon footprint through working with EcoAct and making a sizeable equivalent donation to the Hifadhi-Livelihoods Project in Kenya. The designer says around 25 per cent of her collections are made from dead stock - materials that would have previously ended up in landfill - and she works with 600 women across Uruguay who make her designs by hand.
Gabriela Hearst, designer: "With sustainability, it's not about talking; it's about the doing. I also think if you put restrictions on someone's creativity, it gives them more focus, she previously told us. "My design effort is to build something beautiful that is well-crafted using the right materials that you're excited about from a design point of view, but that you'll also have your whole life. That woman upstairs doesn't want to ever give that dress away; she wants to keep it forever, and that's my goal."

Pesaro, 10 piantine di echinacea, rosmarino, menta e salvia colorano di verde gli spazi esterni della scuola dell’infanzia Gulliver di via Flaminia grazie al progetto “Seminiamo il futuro! INSIEME PER IL CAMBIAMENTO” promosso da Mostra Internazionale del Nuovo Cinema in collaborazione con Marche Multiservizi e Comune di Pesaro. «È la nuova iniziativa che la Mostra Internazionale del Nuovo Cinema mette in campo per rispondere e valorizzare la sua anima “green” - Cristian Della Chiara, direttore organizzativo –. Una mission che cerchiamo di perseguire con impegno, nelle varie edizioni, e che quest’anno ci ha permesso di ottenere la certificazione Ecoaction». Nel 2022 il Festival, «Si è tinto di “azzurro” omaggiando gli ospiti con delle borracce da riempire nei distributori di acqua collocati negli spazi del Festival. Quest’anno ci siamo colorati di “verde” regalando ai partecipanti le 4 erbe aromatiche. Gabriela Hearst is one of New York’s most influential designers, known for her elegant collections that focus on sustainability which is at the core of the brand. Last September, Hearst staged the first carbon-neutral fashion show during New York Fashion Week, minimising its carbon footprint through working with EcoAct and making a sizeable equivalent donation to the Hifadhi-Livelihoods Project in Kenya. The designer says around 25 per cent of her collections are made from dead stock – materials that would have previously ended up in landfill – and she works with 600 women across Uruguay who make her designs by hand.
Gabriela Hearst, designer: "With sustainability, it’s not about talking; it’s about the doing. I also think if you put restrictions on someone’s creativity, it gives them more focus," she previously told us. "My design effort is to build something beautiful that is well-crafted using the right materials that you’re excited about from a design point of view, but that you’ll also have your whole life. That woman upstairs doesn’t want to ever give that dress away; she wants to keep it forever, and that’s my goal.”
