The Dog Tag is Rick Allen's Union Jack Design (Also One Of My Tattoo Designs), I Have One Design (Savage Bass) I Made For Sav The Year Before And Also Have On One Of His Leather Jackets (This Was Authentic Made By The Same Italian Designer Who Made It For Him Back in 2013), I Bought Off Of eBay.

For the past few years, I have been making shirt designs. Most of it has been Def Leppard themed. Fortunately, enough the group has seen some of the designs, I wore a few of them to my two Meet and Greets. Even got to show Rick Allen some last year at the Wentworth Art Gallery show I went to. He gave me first hand advice with the designs on what I should or shouldn't do and ways to avoid running into Copy Infringement with the group. I do have a few ideas for some 5SOS designs, I just need to find the time to sit down and open up Photoshop.

ZZ Top recently shared a revamped version of their 1971 song "Brown Sugar" as the first single from their upcoming live album, Raw, which is due out on July 22. Raw was recorded in conjunction with the blues-rock trio's 2019 documentary That Little Ol' Band from Texas. It will be released as a tribute to longtime bassist Dusty Hill, who died in July 2021 at age 72. The notable tracks that will appear on Raw include "La Grange," "Tush" and "Gimme All Your Lovin'." "Brown Sugar" first appeared on the band's 1971 debut, ZZ Top's First Album, which was released several months before Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar."

Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer has taken a leave of absence and won't be available for the band's upcoming Deuces Are Wild Las Vegas residency. Kramer has "regrettably made the decision to sit out the band's concerts in 2022 so he can focus his full attention on his family during these uncertain times," the band said in a statement to USA Today. "He and the band look forward to his future performances with Aerosmith."

John Douglas will replace Kramer behind the drums while he "takes a temporary leave of absence." Aerosmith added that "he and the band look forward to his future performances with Aerosmith." Kramer is a founding member of Aerosmith and has appeared on every one of their studio records, but he had to step aside in April 2019 to recover from a shoulder injury. The band had then voted to exclude Kramer from their performances at the 2020 Grammys and a contemporaneous MusiCares event, claiming he was not fit to perform. Douglas had filled in for Kramer then as well.

Def Leppard recently released a video for their new track, "Kick," the first single from their upcoming twelfth full-length album, Diamond Star Halos, scheduled to arrive on May 27 via UMe. The video features the band playing the song for a collection of eclectically dressed, Cirque du Soleil-style performers donning feathers, beads, mohawks and more, resembling something like a scene from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. At the end of the video, the band poses stoically in front of a carnival marquee reading, "Wall of Death: The Most Sensational Attraction in the World."

MGMT was formed by Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden in 2001 while at Wesleyan University. Ich halte ja nicht gerade viel von dieser Institution, auch wenn sie die letzten Jahre ein paar Sachen gut gemacht haben und mittlerweile das Publikum wählen darf. Aber wenn es so lang gediente Bands wie Judas Priest nicht schaffen dann Gangsta Rapper aufgenommen werden, hege ich schon ein paar Zweifel an dieser Ruhmeshalle. Nun aber haben es mit Def Leppard endlich wieder ein paar Musiker geschafft, die es mehr als verdient haben aufgenommen zu werden. Eine der loyalsten Bands gegenüber ihren Mitmusikern. Die Hard Rock Band die als erstes überhaupt zwei Platten in Folge mehr als 10 Millionen mal verkauft hat verdient es ganz einfach. Auch wenn mir bei weitem nicht alle Platten gefallen. Deshalb hier mein Ranking der Studioplatten von Def Leppard in umgekehrter Reihenfolge.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”26061″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

Diese Platte war für mich bis auf die herausragende Ballade Long Long Way To Go eine Enttäuschung. Und diese dritte Singleauskopplung wurde nicht mal von der Band selbst geschrieben. Einer der Songschreiber, Wayne Hector, schrieb songs für Westlife, One Direction oder Olly Murs. Dies erklärt vielleicht auch den Popeinschlag den die Band mit diesem 2002 veröffentlichten Album. Zudem ist dieser achte Studiooutput das erste Album bei dem Rick Allen nicht nur Co-Autoren Rechte hatte. Def Leppard realisierte wohl auch ziemlich schnell, dass dieses Album nicht unbedingt ein Reisser ist, die Songs wurden nach der Tour kaum mehr im Setlist gefunden.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”26062″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

Songs From The Sparkle Lounge

Auch das 2008 veröffentlichte Album zählt nicht zu meinen Favoriten. Als Single wurde Nine Lives ausgekoppelt, welches ein Duett mit dem Country Sänger Tim McGraw ist. Dessen Tourmanager war damals (vielleicht ist er es heute noch, das weiss ich leider aktuell nicht so genau) Robert Savage, der Bruder von Rick, dem Bassisten der Leoparden. Zumindest aber rockt das Album wieder, nachdem sie zuletzt ein Coveralbum und zuvor ein recht poplastiges Album abgeliefert hatten. Aber richtig zünden tun die Songs bei mit leider auch heute noch nicht. Vielleicht liegt es auch am Soundbild des Albums, welches mich dann doch eher an die 70er Jahre erinnert als an die überproduzierten 80er.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”26063″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

Ich bin kein Fan von Coveralben, egal von wem. Daran ändert auch dieses Album nichts. Die Tatsache dass es bei mir nicht auf dem letzten Platz gelandet ist ist einzig und allein diese, dass ich sie auf dieser Tour im Juni 2006 zum letzten Mal live erlebt habe, damals im nicht einmal ausverkauften Volkshaus. Dies sagt wohl viel aus über den Status der Band, welchen sie damals innehatten. Mittlerweile füllen sie wieder die grössten Stadien der Welt und kommen 2019 nach 13 Jahren wieder einmal in die Schweiz. Die Songauswahl darauf ist ja sicherlich nicht schlecht und mit Rock On, Hanging On The Telephone und Don’t Believe A Word sind auch ein paar Songperlen drauf, gefallen mit zwar im Original auch besser, aber sie sind gut gemacht. Slang

Was für ein musikalischer Wandel den die Leoparden hier vollzogen haben. Kaum ist ihr Hausproduzent Robert John Mutt Lange nicht mehr an Bord wird das komplette Soundkonzept über die Planke gejagt. Ich war damals mit offenem Kiefer vor dem CD-Spieler. Nicht negativ bewertend aber mit Respekt vor dem Mut solch eine Platte rauszuhauen. Klar die Welt war fest im Griff von Grunge aber eine solche Platte hätte ich in meinen kühnsten Träumen nicht erwartet. Der Sound war auf einmal viel organischer, Rick spielte wieder auf einem halb-akustischen Schlagzeug und Vivian Campbell war erstmals auf der Platte vertreten. Die Fans haben den Wandel zu wenig goutiert und so war Slang das erste Album seit Ewigkeiten, welches in Amerika nicht mit Platin veredelt wurde[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”26065″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

Euphoria

Das Slang nicht so funktioniert hat, wie sich Def Leppard erhofft hatten zeigt wohl der Nachfolger Euphoria deutlich. Ich denke dies wird ein Grund gewesen sein weshalb man wieder mit Robert “Mutt” Lange zusammenarbeitete. Nicht als Produzent, da blieb man bei Pete Woodroffe, aber man bediente sich an seinen Songschreiber Qualitäten. Für mich scheint es, als wollte man wieder an die glorreichen 80er anschliessen. Die Singleauskopplungen liessen aber auch nicht Euphorie zurück. Es gab zwar einige Highlights auf dem Album, aber auch diese Songs sind kaum mehr im Liveset zu finden. Respektabel fand ich aber noch die Gitarrenkünster des Formel 1 Weltmeisters Damon Hill, der auf dem Eröffnungssong Demolition Man die Kredits des Gitarrensolos für sich beanspruchen darf.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”3058″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

Def Leppard

2015 dann für mich die Überraschung, Def Leppard veröffentlichen mit dem selbstbetitelten bisher letzten Studiooutput wieder ein richtig starkes Album. Der Titel wurde gemäss Joe Elliott deshalb gewählt, weil es sich einfach wie Def Leppard anhört. Und er hatte recht, ein Pflichtkauf für jeden Fan wie ich finde. Meine Kritik zum Album kann man hier nachlesen. Die Songs hatten auf einmal wieder Hitpotential, die Tournee waren wieder ausverkauft. In den USA lief das Geschäft wieder wie verrückt und Def Leppard wurden Resident Artist in Las Vegas, was sie zwar ziemlich lange daran hinderte auch nur ausserhalb der Wüstenstadt aufzutreten. Auf einmal war man wieder weltweit in den Charts. Sogar in der Schweiz resultierte ein zweiter Platz in der Hitparade aus den Verkäufen. Adrenalize

Ich würde sagen Adrenalize war das schwierigste Album überhaupt welches Def Leppard zu bewerkstelligen hatten. Die letzten beiden Alben gingen Millionenfach über die Theke, und lieferten nur Hitsingles ab. Die Musikszene befand sich zudem im Aufbruch. Die Platte wäre ursprünglich auch schon für ca. 1990 angedacht gewesen. Aber Hysteria feierte solche Erfolge, dass die Band sich fast unendlich auf Tour befand und an einen Studioaufenthalt nicht zu denken war. Sie planten ein Jahr Studio ein und schon bald geisterten auch schon Demoaufnahmen in der Welt rum (damals noch ohne Internet). Solch eine Aufnahme kaum auch mir zu Ohren und ich war von Tonight, dem Song den ich hörte, restlos begeistert. Die Studiofassung klang dann zwar etwas anders aber war immer noch gut. Schwierig auch deshalb, weil am 08. Januar 1991 mit dem Tod von Steve Clark ein wichtiger Pfeiler, sensationeller Songschreiber und grossartiger Gitarrist das Schicksal besonders hart zuschlug. Auf sechs von zehn Titeln ist er noch als Songschreiber vermerkt. Die Platte wurde auch ihm gewidmet. On Through The Night

Es war nicht nur das Debüt Album der Band aus Sheffield, es ist auch das Härteste von allen. 1980 erschienen orientierte man sich klar am NWoBHM und wurde zugleich zu einem Referenzwerk dieser Stilrichtung. Ich glaube zu kurz wie zu diesem Album war die Band nachher nie mehr im Studio. Im Dezember 1979 aufgenommen wurde das Album dann bereits im März 1980 veröffentlicht. Auch wenn es für die Band ein wichtiges Album war, kommt heute vereinzelt höchstens noch Wasted ins Liveprogramm der Band. Den Song gibt es aber auch unzählige Coverversionen von anderen Bands. High ‘n’ Dry

Gleich drei meiner Lieblingssong befinden sich auf dem 1980 veröffentlichten Album, bei welchem zum ersten Mal Robert John “Mutt” Lange auf dem Produzentensessel sass. Was mich erstaunt Mutt Lange kann auch kurz nur gerade drei Monate war er mit der Band im Studio, eine Kaffeepause zu seinen späteren Aufträgen mit Def Leppard. Zudem kam er gerade aus dem Studio, wo er mit Foreigner deren Megaalbum 4 aufgenommen hatte. Das Album konnte schon mehrfach Platin abkassieren und stellte die Weichen für die Band auf Erfolg. Diesen konnten sie dann massgeblich dem Song Bringin’ On The Heartbreak verdanken. Das Video zum Song schaffte es auf MTV und somit war der endgültige Durchbruch vorprogrammiert[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”26069″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

Hysteria

Wer glaubte der Erfolg von Pyromania könne nicht getoppt werden, wurde 1987 eines besseren belehrt. Als erste Band der amerikanischen Rockgeschichte schaffte es Def Leppard zwei aufeinanderfolgende Alben über die 10 Millionen Verkaufsmarke zu setzen. Joe Elliott sagte einst, dass das Album zum Erfolg verdammt gewesen sei. Es hätte soviel Geld verschlungen, dass sämtliche Bandmitglieder so tief in den Schulden steckten, dass es gar nicht anders ging. Def Leppard waren zwar schon Superstars in der Hard Rock Szene, aber dieses Album hat sie noch grösser gemacht. Insgesamt sechs Singles warf das Album ab, schlechte Songs gibt es auf dem Album nicht. Kein Wunder befinden sich Def Leppard schon seit 2 Jahren auf der 30 Jahre Jubiläumstour mit dem Album. So ganz nebenbei zählt die Tour ebenfalls unter die 10 lukrativsten Konzertreisen des Jahres 2018. Von der Magie des Albums ist also auch 30 Jahre später noch nichts verloren. Ich erinnere mich noch gut als ich die Auskopplung Animal zum ersten Mal am Radio hörte, in einem Datsun Cherry, unterwegs in den Ausgang. An diesem Juli Abend hätte kommen können was wolle, der Song ging mir nicht mehr aus den Ohren. Die Aufnahmen dauerten auch deshalb solange, weil Rick Allen während den Aufnahmen bei einem Autounfall seinen Arm verlor. Die Band wollte nicht ohne ihn weitermachen und wartet auf ihn. Eine Geste die damals wie heute von mir hoch angerechnet wird, für mich ist dies die Geste wahrer Freunde und nicht nur von Musikern. Auf der zugehörigen Tour wurde ich dann auch zum ersten Mal live von der Band positiv überrascht, den ich hätte nie gedacht, dass man solch eine Produktion auch live umsetzen kann.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”684″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

Pyromania

Die heutigen Plattenfirmen und Musiker können sich wohl kaum mehr daran erinnern. Früher, und damit mein ich die Zeit bis ca. Mitte der 90er Jahre, gab man in der Musikindustrie den Bands drei Alben lang Zeit sich aufzubauen und den erstrebten Erfolg einzufahren. Da hiess es mit dem dritten Album make it or break it. Ist heute natürlich alles anders und vorallem monetär komplett anders ausgerichtet. Ich fang jetzt nicht damit an, ob es besser war oder nicht. Für die Langlebigkeit einer Band bestimmt auch mit Blick auf die Bands die heute noch Konzertarenen füllen. Pyromania war das dritte Album von Def Leppard und ein wahrer Geniestreich und meine Nummer eins der Rangliste. Auch weil die Platte meinen Einstieg in die Def Leppard Welt bedeutete. Mein absoluter Leppard Lieblingssong befindet sich auf der Platte (Too Late For Love) und auch sonst bietet das Album weitere zeitlose Klassiker die noch über Jahre hinweg den Test der Zeit überstehen werden. Stilmässig bewegten sie sich schon recht weit von den traditionellen Rock Wurzeln weg und vereinten eine gehörige Portion Glam in die radiotauglichen Songs.
