tfw you're at a ball and someone asks if you know how to waltz and you say yes but then you get on the floor and discover that she knows only modern waltz and you know only 1860s waltz

there is no box step in 1860s waltz

#historical dance #ballroom #ballroom dance #the basic idea is the same but. there's me following and trying to start with a step straight forward onto my right foot #and banging into her knee because she is not doing the diagonal step to the side with her left foot that I was expecting #I know so many cool variations! ...assuming we're doing a mid-19th-century waltz! and if we're not I will step on your toes like a beginner #I could learn. I just...haven't had a reason to yet.

It’s not such a big stretch for them to develop their own dance that is heavily influenced by their life as an Assassin.

It would be quite similar to Capoeira and we can even make this something that developed way before when they were called the Hidden Ones.

It would heavily be influenced by traditional Egyptian and Greek dances and no one can be sure why, at first, until they rediscovered Amunet as one of the founders of the Hidden Ones (probably Shaun would be the one to connect the dots).

Also…

A dance between two people interested in one another can take inspiration from the sky dancing courting ritual of eagles.

Maybe they would dance while holding each other’s left hand, a show of trust and vulnerability by having their Hidden Blade arm grasping each other. There’s a lot of turning and twirling for this kind of dance, paying homage to the sky dance courtship of eagles.

And, and, and!

This traditional dance is a bit different depending on which Brotherhood an Assassin came from. There are a few different steps or even the musical instruments being used changes.

The dance is influenced by the people of the Brotherhood with the Assassins in Alamut having the one closest to the dance of the Hidden Ones.

Levantine Brotherhood mixes in both Levantine and crusader elements to it, a show of the variety of people living in Levant.

The Italian Brotherhood adds in what was quite popular during Renaissance Italy as a show of how the heights of its power was during the Renaissance.

The American Brotherhood’s dance is a mix of a lot of other dances and tunes with a heavy influence of the traditions of the Kanien'kehá:ka.

But even with such changes…

An Assassin can still dance with an Assassin from a different branch.

Because, even if there is little or a lot of changes, the underlying tune of the dance remains the same.

Just like the Creed.

Literally, imagine the outrage in the fandom if Izzy fans started shittalking Stede or Ed or Lucius (or or or) in their character tags the way yall do ours. And we’re just expected to sit quietly with that? We’re not allowed to be upset or annoyed by that? There’s so much I could say (And have said! In private! Where people who would be hurt/take offense can’t see it! Like a decent person!!!) about all yall’s faves and yet!

I know yall don’t have to block new people with the same fucking recycled takes every day like we do. I know yall don’t have to worry about someone you liked who was neutral on the character previously deciding they wanna side with the assholes who’ve been harassing you and yours for a whole year now (Oh, wait, yall don’t get that harassment do yall? Apparently I don't write as much dialogue as I thought. It's all just living in my head lol Still, here's a few for Ethan and bonus one for Henry at the end.

Ethan

1 . “So you’re telling me that if I stick it out, in 50 years, when I’m puttering around worrying about my life’s regrets, that I might finally be able to have a normal conversation with Adam?”

2. "I don’t know how to break through. Nothing works for more than a moment, and, by god,” his voice cracked, “I can’t seem to get enough of those moments. But that’s all they are."

3. “Is there anything I can help you with?”

“In the shower?” Ethan raised an eyebrow, “I’m sure I could think of something.”

4. “First off,” Ethan interrupted, “I wanted to do it. Secondly, it wasn’t any trouble. Thirdly, just accept that sometimes other people might want to do nice things for you so stop being a stick in the mud and open it already.”

5. “Don’t.” The word is spoken softly but firmly. Finally Adam’s eyes lift to meet Ethan’s. “Today was good, leave it there.”

6. “I’m human, as you’re so fond of reminding me. My very existence is a ‘vulnerable situation’. I’m always in danger. I could get hit by a car. I could step on a rock and break my ankle. I could randomly get some kind of cancer. I don’t have centuries to do things. I have right now so at least let me have that.”

7. “Come on, this isn’t some wild river or lake. I don’t even think you need to worry about fish trying to take a little nibble somewhere they shouldn’t.” As Adam blushed, Ethan's face shifted to one of faux surprise, “Unless you think some aquatic creature’s recently taken up residence without the Agency knowing?"

8. "I care about you, Adam, and I don’t want to be something bad in your life. It doesn’t have to be today or next month or next year, but just remember that I have to measure time differently."

Henry

1 . One of the lobsters waved its claws in front of the glass, seemingly cheering on Henry’s decision. “I’d probably spend an hour just staring at it before bringing it back here and tossing it back into the ocean.” Henry looked up at Nate, “I’d unwrap the claws first.”

#folk traditions/music/dance/costume in england in /particular/ are so deeply repressed & mocked and ignored /within/ england #i listened to an interesting podcast examining the english folk music tradition and #how we as english lost something of ourselves in the plundering of others for empire and the incessant rise of industrialisation #however. there is still so much there. so many interesting traditions. so much oral history. so many regional variations #and if you live here it's here for anyone and everyone to take. it's yours!!!!!#waiting for you to find it if you only look for it. if you want it #anyway this was spurred by reading some american say their family was english on both sides and thus had no culture to feel tied to #which made me so sad because it's not true at all. there is always big tescos.
