The disappointment of a Conor fan
I’ve never been much of a sports fan.
Sure when I was growing up I was forced into playing sports by my parents for team building exercises.
I played football from a very young age. You think if you’d played football from age 5 to 14 you would have some sort of knack for it, well guess again.
I then moved onto tennis which is a sport I actually really enjoyed, but once again I was never interested in watching it. Sure if Rafa was playing I would watch, but I wouldn’t spend every waking moment before the match discussing the possible outcomes, who would do what etc.
I live in New Zealand, the greatest country in the world, but also a country that just so happens to be besotted with Rugby. I was never a huge fan. Once again if we were in the world cup final I’d watch it, but I wouldn’t bother to watch any of the pool games. It was never interesting to me.
But 647 days ago that all changed.
I was around at my (world cup champ in Taekwondo) friends house. And he had bought UFC 207, Rouse vs Nunnes. I had never watched a MMA fight before. I remember the feeling of pure elation when Nunnes looked to kill Rousey in just under a minute. It was insane.
Ever since that moment I have watched practically every UFC card.
Every fight night, every PPV, most DWTNCS, a few Bellator’s thrown in too, and maybe even a sprinkling of cage warriors for desert.
I’m obsessed
I spend several hours a day browsing Twitter and Reddit looking for more MMA news. Who is fighting who, who will win, who is going to get the next title shot.
I love it with all my heart.
But
I had never seen a Mcgregor fight.
He had retired 255 days before I watched the greatest sporting event I had ever seen on TV.
I have watched every single fight on Youtube of his 100′s of times. Loving his stinger of a left hand, watching his taunts, laughing at his press conference Taunts; but that all changed on Sunday.
I have waited for UFC 229 for nearly a year. I would wake up each morning hoping to jump on Reddit aand see the fight announced and scream in pure elation.
In fact when the fight was announced, I made my partner get up early and watch the press conference with me. When I saw the promo from Dana I immediately started screaming and clapping in pure bliss thinking this war of fighters finally had a date where they would commence battle.
And then last night happened.
At no point in the fight did Conor even look slightly ahead. He cheated.
He grabbed the cage many times.
He grabbed Khaabib’s shorts many times.
He threw an illegal knee to the head.
He held Khabib’s gloves to prevent his grappling.
And still.
He looked like an Amateur . At no point did he look dominant. He looked like a child in the ring that had no idea what he was doing there.
Mcgregor let me down. All of the time I waited and waited for this fight. He never even seemed to train take down defense, train how to keep his massive range advantage.
No
He let his arrogance take over.
Fuck you Mcgregor. You’re a disgrace to the sport.

Bellator Japan: Sidney Outlaw is the fighter to watch
LAS VEGAS, NV – JULY 18: (L-R) Sidney Criminal commemorates his success over Michael Cora in their welterweight bout during Dana White’s Tuesday Night Competitor Series at the TUF Gym on July 18, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Brandon Magnus/DWTNCS)
Sidney Outlaw is actioning in last-minute against a previous champion and in the co-main occasion has a chance to open up many eyes within Mixed Martial Arts.
Bellator Japan was hit with a big modification when previous UFC champion, Benson Henderson was required off the card due to injury. Henderson was set up for a highly expected rematch with another previous champion in Michael Chandler. They fought back in 2016 to a split decision win for Chandler and this fight brought excitement to the card. Sadly, Henderson was changed by a fighter that might not be well-known across mainstream circles, however Sidney Outlaw is poised to take benefit of this chance to surprise the Mixed Martial Arts community.
At 33- years of ages Chandler has dealt with a wealth of up-and-down moments in the Bellator cage. He’s coming off a first-round TKO defeat at the hands of Patricio Freire at Bellator 221 previously this year The Missouri-native is among the leading home-grown skills in Bellator, however there are concerns about how much longer he can stay at the top of the light-weight ladder. That is a concern that Outlaw is positioned to evaluate on December 28.
Criminal made his Bellator launching back in November when he beat Roger Huerta at Bellator234 Throughout that fight, he managed the placing with a fumbling attack that kept Huerta on his back. While there, Hooligan combined in strikes in hopes of opening the door to pass the guard, take the back and submit. This is an element of Hooligan’s video game that he’s leaned upon to develop his 14 -3 professional record. That design has actually assisted him approximately this point in his profession, however he’s taking a huge step up when he walks into the cage on Saturday.
For Outlaw to discover victory he will need to deal with Chandler’s frustrating pressure. Unlike Huerta, Chandler is not one to throw one strike at a time. Instead, he attempts to swarm his challengers and require them into making errors. Outlaw either will weather those minutes or try to find openings to secure the takedown. Chandler is a terrific MMA wrestler in his own right, so the route to getting the battle on the ground for Criminal remains in the minutes he can catch Chandler overextending himself on strikes. Criminal doesn’t want to spend too much time on the feet with Chandler since that’s one area where the former champion will hold a benefit.
Once the battle hits the ground, that is where the tables might alter in Outlaw’s favor. He trains under Dante Rivera which is a branch of the Ricardo Almeida/Renzo Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lineage. He has seven submissions in his career, which shows that he understands how to try to find the finish. What’s fascinating about those finishes is that many of them come early in the fight; with his newest submission win happening late in the third-round back in2013 Chandler has shown that he’s one who doesn’t tire and rather anticipates his opponents to wilt first. If Outlaw can survive the early flurries from Chandler, appearance for him to continually attempt to take the fight to the ground where he will have the viewed benefit.
Bellator Japan occurs on Dec. 28, 2019 live from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Follow in addition to FanSided Mixed Martial Arts for all your live outcomes and highlights.

Lewis, Espinosa impress the boss, score contracts on DWTNCS UFC News
Following a one-week hiatus for International Fight Week, the action returned to the TUF Gym on Tuesday night for Week 4 of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, with 10 new hopefuls battling it out for a chance to earn a UFC contract. To say Season 2 has been action-packed thus far would be an understatement, as the initial three weeks resulted in 14 of the 15 bouts ending inside the distance and eight fighters being awarded contracts. Last time out, flyweight Antonina Shevchenko joined her sister Valentina on roster by collecting a second-round stoppage win over Jaimee Nievera th … Read the Full Article Here from UFC News http://www.ufc.com/news/Lewis-Espinosa-impress-the-boss-score-contracts-on-DWTNCS

UFC on ESPN+ 1 Cejudo vs Dillashaw - Preview

UFC on ESPN+ 1 Cejudo vs Dillashaw - Preview
UFC on ESPN+ 1 Cejudo vs Dillashaw – Flyweight Championship – Barclays Centre, Brooklyn, 19th Jan 2019
This Saturday’s event in Brooklyn, New York marks a new TV era for the UFC with a flyweight championship bout between Henry Cejudo (13-2) and TJ Dillashaw (16-3). The deal with ESPN has already had an impact on some UFC employees, most notably commentator Jimmy Smith, who did not receive a contract renewal after only 1 year with the company. Dana White will be hoping for a memorable night of fights to mark this new relationship with ESPN.
Main Event – Flyweight Championship Bout – Henry Cejudo vs TJ Dillashaw
Henry Cejudo enters Saturday’s main event bout with the weight of a division on his shoulders. A loss for him could be the final nail in the division’s coffin as TJ Dillashaw confirmed this week that he could care less about the division’s future.
In his last bout back in August 2018, Cejudo made history by beating Demetrious Johnson (27-3-1) for the flyweight title in his second attempt at the former champion. Now the Olympic gold medallist looks towards a new challenge in the form of TJ Dillashaw, the current bantamweight champion and TUF 14 finalist.
TJ has been very vocal about his desire to fight for the flyweight belt and join the elite club of double champions but has now expressed his plan to become the first 3 division champion in a live stream on his Instagram page. Discussing his plans for the future TJ vowed to “run through Cejudo” and look to move up and fight Max Holloway (20-3) for the featherweight strap. Whether or not Dana and the UFC would allow the bantamweight division to be at odds for such a length of time is yet to see, but crazier things have happened.
The striking competition will go to TJ who has incredible knockout power and an array of attacks, but the real interest will be whether TJ can compete with an elite wrestler of Cejudo’s class. Ironically, Cejudo is looking in fantastic shape and looks physically the strongest he has been so far in his career and a big question in this bout is just how much this new weight cut will be for TJ, who is already looking incredibly lean.
How will it go?
TJ’s footwork may well be the key to him winning this fight, his speed and ability to vary his attacks from striking to flash takedowns will be a lot for Cejudo to deal with in the early rounds but if Cejudo can score some early takedowns and start to grind the wind out of TJ he could show the world his win over DJ was no fluke.
My pick: TJ Dillashaw via 2nd Round KO.
Co-Main Event – Heavyweight Bout – Greg Hardy (3-0) vs Allen Crowder (9-3)
The inclusion of former NFL athlete Hardy in the UFC has been widely questioned and often condemned across the MMA community with both fans, fighters and journalists due to his history of domestic violence back in 2014. In a purely professional viewpoint, Hardy has been impressive in the cage by finishing all three of his opponents less than 1 minute into the first round via KO 2 of which under the DWTNCS lights.
Crowder is stepping up to face the UFC debutant Hardy after his own debut loss to Justin Willis (8-1) back at UFC 218. Crowder has a record complete with KO’s, submissions and decision wins and certainly brings a lot of experience into the cage. While Crowder has the experience advantage, it is tough to see past an early KO win for Hardy.
My pick: Greg Hardy via 1st Round TKO.
  Other notable fights:
Gregor Gillespie (12-0) vs Yancy Medeiros (15-5): Gillespie is on an absolute tear coming into the highest profile fight of his young career. Finishing his last 4 fights look for Gregor to push the pace early and try to get Yancy out in impressive fashion. Medeiros on the other hand is making his return to lightweight after a short stint at welterweight culminating in a loss to Donald Cerrone (34-11). Always game to stand in a phone box and throw hands, this fight should be dynamite.
My pick: Gillespie via Decision.
Donald Cerrone vs Alex Hernandez: The aforementioned Cerrone is also making his return to lightweight from welterweight to take on the fired-up Hernandez. Cerrone is no stranger to fighting the young prospects accelerating through the ranks and Hernandez has been certainly showing the veteran no respect in the build-up to the fight.
My pick: Hernandez via 1st Round TKO.
Joanne Calderwood (12-3) vs Ariane Lipski (11-3): Scotland’s own JoJo takes on Lipski in this flyweight bout and will want to build on her 1st round submission win over Kalinda Faria (18-8-1) back in August 2018. Lipski, fighting in her UFC debut, earned her nickname of “The Violence Queen” from her spectacles in KSW and hasn’t suffered a loss since 2015. This fight could steal the show and will not be short of brutality.
My pick: JoJo via Decision.
What fight are you most looking forward to this Saturday? Did you agree with my picks? Let us know in the comments.

Volcanic Rage featuring UFC fighter Dan Ige
Both seasons of Dana White’s Tuesday Contender Series have provided the UFC with prospects that are considered by many to be diamonds in the rough.

A professional since June 2014 and representing Xtreme Couture, Dan Ige owns a 10-2 record in 12 career bouts as a professional comprised of four submissions, three knockouts and three decisions.
Ige appeared on week three of season one of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series in 2017.

He defeated his next two opponents via TKO in James Jones at Shogun Fights 14 and Craig Campbell at Legacy FC 57 respectively.
Then at Legacy FC 62, Ige submitted Diego Pichilingue via kimura in the second round.
In his lone outing with Cage Fury Fighting Championships at CFFC 64, he defeated Fernando Padilla via unanimous decision.
Ige also defeated Ronildo Augusto Braga via unanimous decision in his only appearance with Titan Fighting Championship at Titan FC 44.
At Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series 3, he tapped out Luis Gomez via rear naked choke in the third round to pick up his fourth submission victory as a professional.
In his second outing with the UFC at UFC 225, Ige defeated fellow DWTNCS season one alumni Mike Santiago via TKO in round one.
For his third appearance with the UFC at UFC on Fox 31, he defeated Jordan Griffin via unanimous decision to earn back to back victories with the UFC.

The Pacific Hawk featuring DWTNCS season two alum Austin Springer
The Pacific Hawk featuring DWTNCS season two alum Austin Springer - http://mmauk.net/2018/10/05/the-pacific-hawk-featuring-dwtncs-season-two-alum-austin-springer/
The Pacific Hawk featuring DWTNCS season two alum Austin Springer
Sometimes on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, there have been fighters who have stepped up on short notice and know how to impress. In today’s episode of Across The Pond, you will meet a pacific hawk with a keen knack for the finish. A professional since September 2007 and representing Gracie Barra Portland and Vancouver Elite Martial Arts, Austin Springer holds an 11-3 record in 14 career bouts as a professional comprised of seven knockouts, two submissions and two decisions. Springer appeared on week two of season two of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series in 2018 and has fought for various promotions including Bellator MMA and Titan FC.
In his MMA debut at Combat Caged Warriors, he defeated John Martinez via TKO in the first round. Springer defeated his next four opponents that saw wins over Zach Skinner and Aaron Martin. Then at Main Event Sports Main Event MMA 2, he defeated Damon Jordan via TKO in the first round. Springer also defeated his next two opponents via TKO in Josh Sollis and Ryan Mulvihill. At Prime Fighting 6, he defeated fellow DWTNCS season two alum Toby Misech. Springer knocked out Tony Berglund in the third round at Conquest of the Cage.
At DWTNCS 2, he submitted knockout artist Giga Chikadze in round three via rear naked choke to earn his second submission win as a professional. At 11-3 with seven of those coming via knockout, it would not be a total surprise if Springer gets the chance to hone his skills in other promotions like LFA or a Bellator MMA return before season three of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender starts up again next summer. I  can’t wait to see what promotion picks up this pacific finisher next because whatever promotion lands him, they are getting a prospect who many believe is top of the line when it comes to featherweights in the Pacific Northwest!
