So, I want to expand on my AU about Maki and Kokichi's relationship in the past. (Yes, I love the same orphanage theory and it plays a major role and their relationship are close siblings).

Maki and Kokichi are from the same orphanage.

During their time there, Maki and her friend (naming her Yuki) would take care of the kids and Kokichi is a chaotic rascal.

Even tho Yuki tried her best to get along with Kokichi, he only seemed to be drawn to Maki thinking she had a cool and honest vibe. They eventually grew a bit close after Maki was gone.

One day, Kokichi made Maki and Yuki promise that they'll stick together so that they can play games. (Maki reluctantly promises just to get him to leave her alone but subconciously wanted to).

The three had fun for that time, exchanging gifts like scarves, bottle cap pins and scrunchies, but murder cult watched over them.

Even though Maki doesn't like kids or Kokichi, she still cares for them and want them to have a better life with Yuki so she took up the assassin job.

She doesn't tell Kokichi so she trained for years.

Her heart eventually became empty and eventually forgetting her promise and Kokichi but still remembering her cause and repressing her guilt after each kill.

Kokichi waited for years to see Maki again but was heartbroken to find out that she took the assassin job.

Btw, he already had a deep rooted hatred for murder so his view and trust on Maki shattered but he still understands why she did it.

Eventually, their orphanage's new owners started to treat them badly and Kokichi hatched a plan to escape with Yuki.

They plan to gather the oldest kids and when the younger ones get older, they have enough manpower to get out with everyone.

The oldest kids started to escape with Kokichi's natural leadership.

But the new owners caught up to them and almost killed him with their car but Yuki pushed him aside and got hit instead.

Kokichi felt bad and made sure to think about his actions more clearly as he was on the run with the older kids.

They eventually formed DICE. (The reason why DICE got caught in the first place is because while trying to save the other kids, they were kidnapped.)

He never forgot about the two girls who were like older sisters to him and still he felt immense pain and guilt.

Now that he's leading an organization, he has to mask his feelings and get the job done.

Maki was distraught after finding out Yuki's death but it motivated her to finish her mission because she probably died with a smile on her.

She noticed that the older ones were gone and assumed that they already got adopted.

She still ponders what happened if she didn't become an assassin or what happened to the others.

Then Gofer project happened and Kokichi recognizes her but kept to himself knowing it would include a complicated explaination.

This was a fun thing I write because same orphanage theory is very underated in my opinion and I wnat more Kokichi, Maki and her friend sibling dynamics. Also, since there will be slight changes, this au has their relationship is quite different and integral to giving each other character arc.

(EDIT: It would've much sadder to find out that the new owners were the murder cukt and the reason why their treating the kiddos baddlg was to pick the next killing machine and the mn Kokichi finds out about this then boom plan.)
