Avenged Sevenfold’s Life is But a Dream Tour
Avenged Sevenfold is a band I’ve followed and listened to for a long time. From their early years until now, they have evolved collectively as a band, overcoming many hurdles over the years, and also evolved their music simultaneously.
Being a member of their NFT token club, the Deathbats Club, or the DBC, I knew I had no choice but to jump at the opportunity to photograph them during their stop on the Life Is But A Dream tour. For those of you who have no clue about the DBC, I’ll drop some helpful information at the end of this article.
Their opening act was Kim Dracula. There’s no better way to explain Kim’s music than saying this is just the beginning for him. While still very fresh on the scene, his potential is limitless. You could describe him as similar to a fine wine, one could say. He will only get better and better with time. If you think he’s a sleeper, you’re wrong. This Australian act will be a top contender in a few years!
Kim Dracula is an Australian alternative/indie music artist whose songs have achieved popularity on TikTok.
Following behind was another artist I’ve listened to for a long time and this would be Ronnie Radke’s Falling in Reverse. Ronnie has a truly unique perspective when it comes to music and it’s brilliant. Falling in Reverse continues to bend genres and isn’t defined to any type of music. His vision is his vision and the passion spills into the crowd with every note. Love him or hate him, as most people do one of those, you can’t deny that he has an extreme amount of talent and passion. The music scene and the world needs more of Ronnie, a genuine person who speaks their mind and continues to break the norms. The highlight of the show wasn’t him playing “Popular Monster” or “The Drug In Me Is You,” rather than when he split the pit wide open, hyped everyone up to go hard, and then sang Smash Mouth’s “All-Star!” Ronnie has a vision that is beautiful and insane.
The chair emerges and a spotlight beams down as M Shadows, draped in his “Nobody” ski mask, is sitting observing the crowd work into a small frenzy. “Game Over” and “Mattel” began and blended into each other. The best part of Game Over is the old-school hardcore punk feel it gives off, no doubt a tribute to Brooks Wackerman’s, Avenged Sevenfold’s drummer, legendary past bands within the punk scene. Most people disliked the new album from Avenged Sevenfold, but those people failed to see their vision. It’s about really pushing the envelope on music and their capabilities as artists. It’s about writing meaningful lyrics, it’s about topics they’re passionate about, and it’s about them producing an album that they love. Any band can regurgitate the same sound over and over, failing to evolve or change direction, and some do. While this album wasn’t for everyone, you can tell it was for them and the fans who just love all kinds of music. My favorite part of it all is that you can see how much they love to play this album. M Shadows looks like he’s constantly having a blast on stage. When an artist truly loves what they’re playing and it translates to live concerts, there’s no doubt that the audience feels it too.
While many old-school fans teared up during “So Far Away,” especially with a silhouette of their late drummer, The Rev, it was evident that there were a lot of new fans within the crowd. The largest burst of excitement from the entire night rang out when the iconic warbling sound, for a lack of better words, bellowed to mark the beginning of “Nobody.”
For those of you who aren’t familiar with NFTs asor anything involving web3, that makes two of us. I’m not a cryptobro or an expert on the subject, but I do know about the DBC. While some NFTs are just JPEGs as some may say, the DBC is much more. They have perks or utilities attached to each one of them. What that means is that every Deathbat within the club has basic perks of skipping the line at every headlining show, exclusive DBC merch, and giveaways for members only and that’s every Deathbat. There are Deathbats that are rarer and more expensive and come with even more perks like meet and greet access for life, free tickets for life, limited merch drops, or even coffee with Brooks or golfing with M. Shadows. You can purchase DBC tokens on Coinbase NFT here!
The best part of the DBC is how active the band is within the Avenged Sevenfold Discord, especially M Shadows. He’s always in the Discord channel interacting with fans and he’s always lurking. Within the Discord channel, you can find the “Token Hub,” which is where you can ask anyone about how to purchase a DBC token if you’re on the fence or don’t know how to. Their Discord channel is really a one-stop shop for everything associated with the band, whether it is their march, tour dates, Drinks with Johnny, or anything else. The DBC acts like a family, queue “Welcome to the Family,” and it operates as such as well. Whether you want to purchase a Deathbat, that’s up to you, but giving the exclusive merch and skip-the-line perks alone is enough for me, hence why I own several DBC tokens, but being a fan is more than enough for the band and their 3rd leg of the Life Is But A Dream tour is rolling out next year, so make sure you check them out near you!

An incredible write up about #SergioMichel in @concerthopper.com 's coverage of the 2020 North American #Soulfly tour; Masquerade in Atlanta. Article: Richard Davenport "Next up was Sergio Michel which, admittedly was something very unique in the world of heavy music for us at ConcertHopper. Stepping to the microphone was Sergio Michel himself, the namesake of the group, a wine-colored flying V styled guitar slung over his should. Immediately behind him to his left sat his drummer and that was all, there was no bassist, no second guitarist just two men who were about to unleash an insanely skillful performance upon the unsuspecting onlookers. Both artists here were obviously incredibly skilled and technically proficient at their respective instruments and all of this led to a very technical performance that could certainly be comparable to Steve Vai or Joe Satriania but for those who have a desire for a much heavier sound while still remaining technical." https://www.concerthopper.com/concert-hopper-4/2020/3/12/the-summoning-tour-featuring-soulfly-toxic-holocaust-sergio-michel-systemhouse-33-sidework-syndicate-torn-soul-and-sugar-virus #Atlanta #ATL #hotlanta🔥 #Soulfly #soulfytribe #SergioMichel #ConcertHopper #guitar #metal https://www.instagram.com/p/B9sLZY5lIiQ/?igshid=1ktrgwgadrnvl

Pierce the Veil - The Jaws of Life Tour
With a slammed house (of blues), the lights dimmed and the Destroy Boys came out. Alexia Roditis first hit the stage and turned up the energy. Destroy Boys reminded me of why bands were formed in the first place, to play music and have fun. There was no shortage of jamming out, nor a shortage of smiles. Even once Violet Mayugba dropped the guitar, Violet was all smiles while screaming into the mic. The Destroy Boys is a band that is taking over the scene and I’m pumped to see them soar to new heights.
If you’re looking for a band with some powerful vocals combined with heavy lyrics that move you emotionally, then search bo further than Dayseeker. The whole set was full of a feeling that’s difficult to describe. It moved me. When Rory began discussing how the song “Neon Graves” was about his father who passed from cancer, it really resonated with me. My father had also passed from brain cancer a few years back and the performance of the song gave me a new sense of peace about it. Needless to say, Dayseeker has been playing nonstop around the house and is especially perfect for late-night drives.
Dayseeker is a post-hardcore band from California that formed in 2012. Their sound reminded me of when rock meets a small amount of synth wave, but only in the best ways. Dayseeker definitely has a bright future ahead of them!
L.S. Dunes wasted no time coming out swinging. With being a supergroup comprised of members from the gnarliest bands of the early 2000s, Coheed and Cambria, Saosin/Circa Survive, Thursday, and My Chemical Romance, it’s no wonder why they’re a true supergroup. Anthony Greens’ energy was never-ending, I assume he drank some of Frank Iero’s Hallowed Grounds coffee from La Paisa Bonita Coffee before the show. He was bouncing left and right and never slowed down. If Frank wasn’t burning down the house shredding, then the other members were. It was nonstop action delivered by each band member and a true success story of why supergroups are called such. These veterans of the scene were one of the best bands that I’ve ever seen.
Although the bill was stacked full of talented acts for support, once Pierce the Veil took the stage, it was obvious that’s who the crowd was pumped to see. I honestly wasn’t sure if I was in the year 2023 anymore, because the crowds attire was that of 2005. Your MySpace top 8 would have been proud. It was pretty awesome seeing young faces dawn on the emo/scene kid styles of the Millennial youth. Kicking off the show with confetti cannons and CO2 blasts, Pierce the Veil wasted no time giving the fans what they wanted. High kicks, high jumps, and a sold-out crowd made an unforgettable night. Even after a few songs had played there was still a veil, or curtains, draped over half the stage until a mid-song pickup dropped them down revealing the band’s banner and unleashing a newfound excitement from the crowd!
Pierce the Veil is an American rock group that was formed in 2006. Their sound has been widely described as metalcore, scene, post-hardcore, and about everything else under the sun. Today, they are still jamming hard and don’t appear to slow down anytime soon with the remaining tour dates below and accompanying Blink 182 next year on tour as support.
Don’t forget to check out the rest of their tour at these remaining dates and locations!
November 21 - Boston, MA - MGM Music Hall at Fenway 25 - Reading, PA - Santander Arena 26 - Columbus, OH - KEMBA Live! 28 - Chesterfield, MO - The Factory 30 - Chicago, IL - Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom
December 2 - Des Moines, IA - Vibrant Music Hall 3 - Minneapolis, MN - The Armory 5 - Oklahoma City, OK - The Criterion 7 - Las Vegas, NV - Brooklyn Bowl 8 - San Diego, CA - Viejas Arena

So Much For (Tour) Dust-W/ Fall Out Boy, Bring Me the Horizon, Royal & The Serpent, and Games We Play
When I heard that Fall Out Boy was set to hit the road this summer with Bring Me The Horizon, I knew that this was going to be a show that I could not miss. Both bands have help shape my music taste today. What better way to spend a Friday night than to see two awesome bands perform together. For this particular date of the tour, the band is also playing with Royal & The Serpent and Games We Play. Upon arrival to the venue the traffic leading up was at a standstill for at least a mile. Unfortunately, due to the time it took to get into the venue I was unable to capture photos of Games We Play even though we arrived early to the venue.
Games We Play is a pop punk trio that when viral overnight, after posing a teaser of their new song “Deadbeat” on Tik Tok. The video of the singer and his wife, has over a million views. If you are a fan of bands like All Time Low, Real Friends and State Champs, then you will definitely want to add Games We Play to your list of up-and-coming artists to listen to. Games We Play is the first band to step foot on stage for the night. They expressed their excitement for being on tour with Fall Out Boy. They played a few songs and to bring some energy to the crowd they played a cover of “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. Another cool thing I noticed about this band, the singer Emmyn, joined us in the photo pit to take photos of Royal & The Serpent’s Set.
Royal & The Serpent, also known as Ryan Santiago, is a singer song writer from New Jersey. She independently debuted her first single “Temperance” back in 2017. In an interview with Prelude Press she explains what the name Royal & The Serpent means, it translates to Me + My Ego also explaining that “Duality is the essence of our human experience.” In 2019 Royal & The Serpent was signed with Atlantic Records. She has 3 EP’s and a bunch of singles that has been released to date. After the release of her 3rd EP, IF I DIED WOULD ANYONE CARE she got the opportunity to go out on the road with Demi Lovato on her Holy Fvck Tour. I was not expecting to actually leave this show finding another artist that I enjoy listening too. When the other photographers & I were hanging out in the VIP area before Bring Me The Horizon came out, we heard a song that sounded familiar. It’s called “Overwhelmed”, I have heard it plenty of times at shows and in some Tik Tok videos, but I did not expect it to actually be a Royal & The Serpent song. Royal & The Serpent are for sure a band I will be adding to my must listen to list.
Bring Me The Horizon is a British Rock band from Sheffield forming back in 2006. The band has 8 albums released to date. The band has such a large variety of musical stylings, due to the idea of each album that they released should be different from the last, they have experimented with mixing electronica, nu metal, pop and rock trying to get away from the metalcore sound from earlier albums. The band has collaborated with artist’s that I wouldn’t expect them to work with such as Halsey, Lil Uzi Vert, and Ed Sheeran. No matter what album you are listening to, I feel like Bring Me The Horizon has a song for everyone. I’ve listened to them since I was an early teenager and even now, I can still enjoy the new music they are producing. When Bring Me The Horizon finally graced us with their presence, I got super excited and was ready for what they were going to play for us that night. They played a bunch of fan favorites such as “Can You Feel My Heart", “Throne”, and “Happy Song.” There were fans there from all over, I was looking at some of the signs the fans had drew and one of them asked Oli Sykes to draw her next Bring Me The Horizon tattoo, which I thought was an awesome idea especially if you are a super fan. During their set Oli wanted the fans to step it up a notch and he kept asking them to mosh because the first two mosh pits were “sh*t.” I absolutely loved their set, since I was able to hear all my favorite songs by them and even see them for the first time live on top of being able to take photos of them was unimaginable.
Fall Out Boy is an American Rock band from Chicago Illinois, they formed back in 2001. Fall Out Boy was one of the main bands that introduced me to Pop-Rock and Pop-Punk with their catchy songs such as “Thnks fr th Mmrs” and “Sugar, We’re Going Down.” This band has had a variety of accomplishments in their career, they have won many awards such as artist of the year, multiple best music video awards, favorite alternative band and many more. Before Fall Out Boy even had the chance to step out on stage the fans at the barricades were going crazy. When the curtains were going up, I was not expecting what happened next, I jumped a little bit each time this happened. Fall Out Boy came out blasting, the band had fireworks going off and fire going off at all the high points of the songs. I loved the energy that they had to give, the singer Patrick Stump, was swinging his guitar around and hitting all those notes hard. I loved the fact that Pete Wenz had a flame thrower attached to his guitar. As we were leaving the pit, I noticed that a fan was waving around a sign that said, “I came here from London to make sure that this tour was real”. I loved that this tour had fans coming from all over the country to see them let alone coming from another country.

Dethalbum IV: Last Call with Dethklok
On August 6, 2006, Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha had a vision to create an adult animated television series on [adult swim] that would be centered around a melodic death metal band named Dethklok. The show featured fictional band members: Nathaniel Explosion – voiced by Brendon Small (vocals), Skwisgaar Skwigelf – voiced by Brendon Small (guitars), Toki Wartooth – voiced by Tommy Blacha and Mike Keneally (guitars), Pickles – voiced by Brendon Small (drums), and William Murderface voiced by Tommy Blacha (bass). Brendon Small wrote the music for the show and it would serve as vital pieces in many of the animated scenes throughout the show’s history. The show would instantly be a hit on [adult swim]. So much of a cultural phenomenon, that Brendon Small would go on to release The Dethalbum in 2007 featuring songs like “Murmaider”, “Awaken”, and “Bloodrocuted”. The album would be produced by Ulrich Wild, who was known for producing albums for bands such as Pantera, Static-X, Stabbing Westward, Deftones, and Breaking Benjamin.
Brendon would enlist the help of metal veterans Gene Hoglan (drums), Mike Keneally (guitar/backing vocals), and Bryan Beller (bass/backing vocals) to help with touring as Dethklok. Currently, the touring band now consists of Brendon Small (guitar/lead vocals), Gene Hoglan (drums), Pete Griffin (bass/backing vocals), and Nili Brosh (guitar). Dethklok as a band has released a total of four LPs with their latest release, Dethalbum IV, on August 22, 2023, by Water Tower Music. So, let’s talk about Dethalbum IV and what to look for when you hear it!
The very first (1) track, “Gardener of Vengeance” begins with a brutal assault of thunderous double bass drums from Pickles/Gene Hoglan (Death, Testament, Dark Angel, and Strapping Young Lad) with some crunchy riffs courtesy of Brendon Small. When Nathan Explosion/Brendon comes in with his bloodthirsty vocals, the listener is once again transported to a land that is all so familiar. The land of brutality that is Dethklok. “Gardener of Vengeance” is the perfect track to kick off this album.
The second (2) track, “Aortic Desecration”, is also the first single released from Dethalbum IV to the public. Well, they picked a great single to get old and new fans alike eager to hear the entire album. “We’re all going to die!” will go down as one of the brutal beginnings of a metal song. I feel some Morbid Angel influence interwoven in this vicious track. I cannot wait to see Dethklok perform this song live and sing “Aortic desecration. How could I be so wrong? Disemboweled publicly. This is the dying song”.
Track four (4), “Mutilation on a Saturday Night” showcases Pickles/Gene Hoglan’s abilities to bring out some guttural thrash beats as the band creates another Dethklok metal masterpiece. One of my favorite tracks off Dethalbum IV is track ten (10), “SOS” is an epic 4:39 minutes’ worth of Dethklok’s ability to formulate a barrage of crunchy riffs mixed between double bass blast beats and Nathan/Brendon’s vicious lyrical accompaniment.
Track eleven (11), “Murmaider III”, closes out the unforgettable saga of Dethklok just as it began with “Murmaider” on The Dethalbum. Dethklok (allegedly) closes out their discography with the following quote, “The Murmaids sing/The Blackened fire/The blazing sky/The pluming ink/The sea beast cry/His final sleep/But we survive”.
While knowing that this might be the swan song for Dethklok, you can take solace in knowing that this entire album owns up to this enormous task. Dethalbum IV from start to finish is a testament to Dethklok’s growth and maturity in recording new material. From The Dethalbum to the latest Dethalbum IV, the evolution of their technical production and prolific songwriting is brutally illustrated with songs like “Gardener of Vengeance”, “Aortic Desecration”, “SOS”, and “Murmaider III” off Dethalbum IV. For 17 years, Dethklok has captured the attention of metal heads across the globe and now before the possible final chord is played on their current tour in Los Angeles, they have cemented themselves in the halls of the metal pantheon. Brendon Small had a vision with Tommy Blacha that spawned a movement in comedic callousness and extreme metal.

Der Abgrund Tour 2023- Withered w/ Bathe & Omenkiller: Live at Grantski Records
Withered is a death/doom/black/sludge metal band from Atlanta, Georgia that formed as a band back in 2003. The band consists of founding member Mike Thompson (guitars/vocals), Rafay Nabeel (bass), Dan Caydeo (guitars/vocals), and Beau Brandon (drums). They are signed to the French label Season of Mist and have released five (5) LPs, one (1) live DVD, and one (1) single. Their latest LP, Verloren, was reviewed on Concerthopper by Richard Davenport and you can check it out by following this link. Verloren is a fantastic album from start to finish and is one of the records that I play regularly from my collection. Mike Thompson has been the force behind keeping Withered steady since their inception in 2003. As the founding member, you can sense the passion Mike has for his fans, his fellow bandmates, and their music.
Withered recently embarked on a tour that started May 18th in New Orleans, LA. and will conclude on June 4th at the Brickyard in Knoxville, TN. I was thrilled to see that Grantski Records was able to snag a date between their Columbus, GA., and Charleston, S.C. dates. There are some amazing and significant metal bands from Atlanta not named Mastodon that also deserve recognition based on the scope of their work. Withered is one of those bands. I recommend checking out Withered any time they are playing near you, but only if you want your face melted off. From start to finish, Withered played a variety of crushing and brutal songs from their intense discography. At one point someone from the crowd yelled, “Your drummer is badass!”. Mike smiled and replied, “Yeah, we know”. That person is correct because Beau Brandon has been blasting beats for Withered since 2007 while impressing their fans with his skills ever since.
Head over to Withered’s Official Bandcamp page today and check out some ‘blackened metal’! If you collect vinyl, then you still can pick up a copy of Verloren (black version or clear marbled vinyl), Grief Relic (black version), or Frolie Circulaire (black version – an autographed variant is also offered for this record). Don’t worry CD fans, they still have some in stock: Verloren, Grief Relic, or Frolie Circulaire.
You can read my previous review exclusively on Concerthopper.com featuring Withered from their performance at last year’s Snowblind Festival in Atlanta, Georgia.
Bathe is a noisecore/mathcore/doom/sludge metal band from Columbia, South Carolina that formed as a band in 2014. The band consists of Jon Scott (bass), Alex Strickland (vocals), Paul Huff (guitars), and David Scott (drums). The band has released one (1) LP, one (1) single, and two (2) EPs. This would be my first time checking out Bathe perform, and I was excited to see what they were bringing to the table. When they were setting up and placing a pulpit on the stage, I knew this was about to be a heavy ride. They gained a new fan and I hope to catch them on stage again soon.
You can also check out Bathe’s Official Bandcamp page today and show them some support!
Omenkiller, best known for delivering some heavy ‘Savannah Beatdowns’, is a four-piece deathcore band that hails from none other than Savannah, GA. The band consists of Ben (vocals), Chris (bass), Jace (drums), and Lily (guitar). Omenkiller might have kicked off this evening’s festivities, but do not let that fool you at all. Omenkiller put on a brutal performance that had everyone in Grantski’s head banging and singing along to their set.

Carolina Story Journeys Through Pain and Redemption with 'Colors of My Mind'
Colors of My Mind, the new album by husband and wife duo Carolina Story, isn't a concept album. But in many ways it feels like one, with the track selection moving the listener on a journey through hopelessness and pain, through glimpsed optimism, and finally to acceptance and, in places, even joy. While somewhat accidental, that's no coincidence as the duo was unwittingly at the time tracking the path their own life was about to take, with vocalist and instrumentalist Ben Roberts checking into rehab just days after the album was finished recording.
The pain of present is evident in the album's opening track, and first single, “Animal.” “What would you have me to do?” Ben asks, “What would you have me to say? Domesticated either way.” Driven by a slow and steady drum beat, the song seethes with barely restrained fury, the guitar, piano, and the crashing cymbals that enter late in the song underlining lyrics like “I'm just an animal roaming the hills/I look for blood, looking to kill”, later lamenting “Never going to satisfy these hunger pains.” If there was ever a line that told the truth of an addict in the last stages of denial before getting help, that line is it.
“Animal” is followed up by another album highlight, “It's a Drag.” A mid-tempo rocker, there's a feel of the early British Invasion in the instrumentation and phrasing, not the last time on Colors of My Mind that Carolina Story seems to channel the Fab Four. The tempo belies a song full of despair, noting “All this time/ lives run by/ and pay no mind/ to you and I/ The world spins round/ and stars burn out.”
By mid-album, and particularly “Don't Look Down on Your Dreams”, there's a glimpse of sun in the darkness. “Don't give in like they want you to/every day brings a brand new you” Roberts begins over a slowly strummed acoustic guitar. It's a song written in the deepest darkness of their career (Ben wrote and recorded the initial demo as a voice memo with no recollection of doing so). By the end of the song, the simple acoustic melody is replaced by an electric guitar solo that sounds like a soul being freed from a prison.
But it's “Painted Lady” that offers the album's best effort. This time it's Emily's turn to take the vocal reins, weaving a tale of a woman finding herself for the first time. “Painted lady/ there's no more need to wait/ your time here is done/ a cocoon is no cage/ The world for the taking/ with raindrops on your wings/ No woes, no master/ go on and go free.”
The adage “I've suffered for my art” is all too often a true one. Like everyone, artists suffer the pitfalls of life, sometimes bigger than others, sometimes just the normal pains of life. The secret to really good art is not in suffering more often or more deeply than others but in being able to find the commonalities that tie all the human sufferings, joys, and sorrows that make humans be human, and to put those things into relatable words. With Colors of My Mind, Carolina Story has found that common thread of humanity that we can all relate to.
Colors of my Mind releases on April 7. Get it at your favorite indie record shop.

Spring Tour 2023: Goose Live @ Georgia Theatre
For the third time in four years, I have been fortunate enough to cover Goose for Concerthopper.com. This time around Goose came through my area on their Spring Tour 2023 and performed an intimate set at the historic Georgia Theatre located in the middle of downtown Athens, Georgia. Tickets for this event were just as hard to get as Master's tickets are at Augusta National. IYKYK (Thanks a lot, AXS.). For those who are not familiar with Goose, they are an American indie groove/funk/psychedelic rock/jam band that hails from Wilton, Connecticut, and started as a trio in 2014. The band originally consisted of Rick Mitarotonda (guitar/vocals), Trevor Weeks (bass), and Ben Atkind (drums). Peter Anspach (keyboards/guitar/vocals) was added in 2017 and then later Goose added Jeff Arevalo (percussion/vocals) in 2020. Goose has released three (3) LPs, two (2) EPs, and nine (9) live albums that are all amazing! If you were lucky enough to get their latest live album (2022.12.31 Cincinnati, Ohio) on preorder from Diggers Factory, 'Congratulations!' I know we are all eagerly awaiting this pressing to ship out later in the year!
Before doors opened the line, filled with eager and excited Goose fans, to enter the Georgia Theatre was wrapped around the building way down the side street. Whether doing photography or just attending a Goose show as a fan, you will always find me here smiling with my people! Honk Honk!
Let’s get back to this once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness Goose perform live at the Georgia Theatre. The eager and excited crowd gathered was a mixture of University of Georgia college students, fans of Goose, and those hard-core fans that travel with the band as much as possible during their tour dates. It is always nice to notice those familiar faces in the crowd that attend every Goose show that you also attend. If you follow Goose while on tour, I am sure that you can spot some recognizable faces riding the rail during other tour dates across the United States thanks to other concert photographers.
Once Goose came on stage, the gracious crowd erupted with a loud and all-so-familiar “GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE!!”. This tradition has become one of my favorite things to do as a show of affection and love toward the entire band. Not knowing what was coming song-wise, the audience puts their trust in Goose to take them on a journey through their musical soundscape. Some of the things that I love about Goose aren’t always music, for instance; Trevor’s bass face while performing is something serious as he lays down some crunchy and funky bass lines. Or Pete’s ever-present smile as he either talks to the crowd showing love and support or while he is just jamming on the keys/guitar, you can tell that Pete is all about making the crowd smile along with him. Another thing that I love to see, is Rick’s face as he gets deeper and deeper in the sauce while he’s playing guitar. The more I see Goose play, the more I believe Rick is defining his craft even more with each note he performs. A master of his craft! Well, let’s not forget the percussion pieces of Goose because the excitement from both Ben and Jeff also shines bright as they lay down some funky beats. Goose makes sure that each song performed is an experience to remember as the crowd dances away their worries during the performance.
Check out the setlist from this sold-out show at the Georgia Theatre below:
Set 1: “Tumble, Time to Flee” [1] -> “Green River” [2], “Flodown”, “Thatch”, “Silver Rising”, “The Empress of Organos” -> Trevor Reads Poetry [3] -> “The Empress of Organos” Set 2: “Arcadia”, “Slow Ready” > “Rock The Casbah” [4], “Hot Tea” -> “Turned Clouds” > “Hot Tea” [5] Encore: “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” [6] Teases: "After Midnight" tease in Hot Tea Coach's Notes: [1] Unfinished. [2] Creedence Clearwater Revival. [3] “Fuck The Pain Away” by Peaches. [4] The Clash. [5] With “After Midnight” tease from Peter. [6] Rupert Holmes.

Review: Wilder Woods Delves Into Southern Rock and Soul with 'Fever / Sky'
Wilder Woods is the solo project of Bear Rinehart, vocalist for Christian rockers NEEDTOBREATHE. Having never been a fan of the band, I went into listening to his new album Fever / Sky expecting very little. I was pleasantly surprised. While Rinehart's voice retains some of the sound that you hear fronting his band, he does an admirable job of separating the solo project from the primary with heavy doses of Southern rock guitar and soulful choruses.
Nowhere is that change more evident than on the album's opening track, and first single, “Maestro (Tears Don't Lie).” There's a vibe of Nathaniel Rateliff or Shinyribs on this Muscle Shoals-infused rocker. It's a song that is big everywhere. Big guitar licks. Big choruses. Big organ solos. Big throaty vocals. Even the lyrics are big, with Rinehart singing “Throw me out like the change in your pockets, baby. Move on.”
Another rocker highlighting the album is “Be the Man.” Anchored by a fat ZZ Top-esque guitar lick, Rinehart wails “I can't help it. I was was born selfish. Tired of being all that I am.” Later he notes that trying to “Be the Man” isn't all it's cracked up to be. “Got my face up on a building but I'm short on cash.”
On the slower side there's the album's second single, “Get It Back.” Over an almost military drum beat, Rinehart weaves a tale of lessons learned too late in life. “They keep saying 'Son it'll be alright', but the hands on the clock don't lie.” In the chorus, he laments that “I wish I would have known that when you give your heart to someone you might never get it back.”
I was surprised how much I enjoyed Fever / Sky. The great thing about a side project is that it allows you to stretch in ways that doesn't fit your primary band's style. Otherwise, what's the point? For Bear Rinehart, Wilder Woods is an opportunity to delve into the world of soul and he pulls it off well.

Trinity Of Terror Tour Part III- Featuring Ice Nine Kills, Black Veil Brides, Motionless In White & Atreyu
This is a triple co-headlining tour featuring Ice Nine Kills, Black Veil Brides and Motionless in White with featured guests Atreyu. This is the third leg of this tour. The bands previously brought Crown The Empire, We Came as Romans, and Lilth Czar (select dates only). I’m excited to see what Atreyu has in store for this part of the tour. They are one of the many bands that helped form my taste in music today. One of the first songs I ever heard from them was “Congregation of the Damned.” Black Veil Brides is another band that I have been anticipating to see, they were one of my guilty pleasures growing up. I’m excited to see how the band has progressed since I listened to them as a teenager.
Atreyu is a metalcore/hard rock native to California but according to front man Alex Varkatzas “I don't think we fit into any genre. I think we are hard to pin down. When we first started it was a little easier. We were a metallic hardcore band with singing parts. There wasn't any else like that when we were doing it. The band has been around since 1998. This band has released eight studio albums to date. Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses (2002) to their latest album Baptize (2021). Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances with the venue I was unable to capture photos of Atreyu’s set.
Setlist:
Strange Powers of Prophecy
Baptize
Becoming the Bull
Right Side of the Bed
The Time Is Now
Ex's And Oh's
Save Us
Falling Down
Battle Drums
Warrior (with Zero 9:36)
I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) (Whitney Houston cover)
Blow
Motionless In White aka MIW is a heavy metal band from Scranton, PA. The band formed in 2005 while in high school. The band is best described as a blend of metalcore, gothic metal, and industrial metal. They have also been called "horror-metal”. Motionless In White has six albums to date, the most recent one being Scoring The End Of The World. As the band was taking the stage, fans were still pouring into the venue. Some fans waited hours before they could go into the show and still missed out on part of their set. I was also unable to take photos of Motionless In White due to unforeseen circumstances. During their set, Motionless In White stepped up, taking their performance to another level adding theatrics to their performance that we haven’t seen before the Trinity Of Terror Tour. Chris Motionless pulls out a pride flag as they closed out the song “Voices.” During other songs like “Cyberhex” the band had dancers join them, waving flags and lights around. Before the band started playing “Dead as Fuck” the band got the crowd to join them in a chant saying D-E. A-D as the song continued the dancers came back out with a surprise, after changing outfits to look like zombies. They took part in throwing candy out to the crowd. At the end of the band’s set, they came out with something extra special for the fans. When they played “Eternally yours” they threw a dozen roses out into the crowd. You can also check out our previous coverage of them while they were on the Part II of The Trinity Of Terror Tour (done by Leah Dobson) & The Diseased and Disguised Tour.
Setlist:
Disguise
Sign of Life
Slaughterhouse
Werewolf (with Saxl Rose)
Voices
Cyberhex
Masterpiece
Dead as Fuck
Another Life
Somebody Told Me (The Killers cover)
Eternally Yours
Black Veil Brides is also a California native. They are an American rock band that debuted 2006 and dropped their first album in 2010 with the release of We Stitch These Wounds. The band also released their latest album The Phantom Tomorrow and The Mourning in 2021. Black Veil Brides discusses topics aimed at people who feel like outcasts in society. Former Bassist Ashley Purdy stated “We carry a message of believing in yourself and letting no one tell you otherwise. We stand up for the underdog and the disenfranchised. Anything strange, odd, or unique… we embrace that. So basically, standing up for yourself; have fun and live your life how you choose. You only have one life, make the most of it.” When it was time for Black Veil Brides to take the stage, the energy from the crowd intensified. During their 4th song “Devil”, Jinxx came out on stage playing an electric violin, I would have to say that is my favorite part of their set due to playing violin in high school. The band overall was less interactive with the crowd until a fan passed out. Andy stopped their set; he called for an EMT and didn’t leave that side of the stage for a while. After the fan was taken care of the band came back out on the stage together while Andy made an announcement “Drink some water and please take care of yourselves tonight.” The band unfortunately had to cut their set short due to this.
Setlist:
Crimson Skies
Coffin
Faithless
Devil
Shadows Rise
Scarlet Cross
We Stitch These Wounds
Knives and Pens
The Legacy
Fallen Angels
In the End
Ice Nine Kills is a heavy metal band from Boston, Massachusetts. The band formed back in the year 2000, they are known for their horror inspired lyrics. The band was originally known as Ice Nine, until they debuted their first album Last Chance To Make Amends that’s when they decided to change their name to Ice Nine Kills. They also had a different style when they first pursued music, the band was ska-punk. The band has now shifted into who they are today, Ice Nine Kills has described itself as "theatricore.” Ice Nine Kills is a band that I’m glad I was able to come out and see their performance. I understand why a lot of people love this particular band. When they band came out on stage they had animal masks on. They also had an actor come out on stage, which Spencer the singer of Ice Nine Kills interacts with on and off. Spencer had a handful of different props to display the “killings” from a shovel to a chainsaw. The fans were also dressed for the occasion too, some of them dressed up as Chucky, Michael Meyers, Pennywise and some even had their official silence masks on. Ice Nine Kills performance has been described as “It’s the perfect experience for the metalheads with a passion for horror games.”
Setlist:
Funeral Derangements
Wurst Vacation
Hip to Be Scared
Ex-Mørtis
IT Is the End
Stabbing in the Dark
The Shower Scene
A Grave Mistake
Farewell II Flesh
The American Nightmare
The Trinity Of Terror Tour part 3 is only running until December 10th! We were also fortunate enough to have another Concerthopper, Leah Dobson, cover this leg of the tour. Sneak on over to her article to see her thoughts and work on The Trinity Of Terror Part 2 Tour. We have a plethora of music & artists we cover. Check out some of the other shows we’ve had the opportunity to showcase. Go on over and give us a follow on Facebook and Instagram.

The Triumphant Return of Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que!
It is hard to believe but we are already at the 11th Annual Papa Joe’s Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que, but it seems like this festival started only a few years ago. So many incredible and unforgettable memories over the years from such greats as Ricky Skaggs, Drive-By Truckers, Willie Nelson & Family, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, The Avett Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show, Greensky Bluegrass, and Trampled by Turtles just to name a select few. After taking 2020-2021 off (for obvious reasons), this year’s Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que took place on October 14th-15th, 2022 and was held at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in Grovetown, GA. I will also note that despite missing two years in a row, I am going to continue to label this as an “annual” festival because we can’t blame them for taking a pause for the cause. Much respect to all the people involved with making this passionate festival happen. Let me tell you, I really missed this hometown festival immensely. Since my first year attending Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que in 2012, I made it a point to attend this festival whether it was doing photography or just attending as a fan. What did Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que have in store for us with #11? Well let’s just dive right into this lineup and discuss how it all went down!
Starting off this year’s incredible line up is none other than St. Paul & the Broken Bones and Leftover Salmon, followed by the legendary Tanya Tucker, Punch Brothers, The Del McCoury Band, Yonder Mountain String Band, North Mississippi AllStars, The Lil Smokies, The Vegabonds, Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country, Fireside Collective, The Heavy Heavy, Little Roy & Lizzy Show, Tall Tall Trees, Sam Burchfield, and Grassland String Band! This lineup is stacked from top to bottom and there are so many reasons why everyone had a great time listening to music at Papa Joe’s Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que. Personally, I have been chasing a few of these artists on this year’s lineup such as The Del McCoury Band, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, and the Punch Brothers. Finally, 2022 would be my time!
Day one (Friday) kicked off with some great music from a Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que vet. It was Athens, GA very own Grassland String Band (and they will be the first to tell you that they are not a string band). Their latest album, Grassland (Still Not A) String Band, was released on August 26th, 2022, and has made some major splashes across the music scene. You can follow this link to their Official Bandcamp page and check them out for yourself! Next up would be none other than the well-known bluegrass great Del McCoury and his band. As stated previously, I had been wanting to see Del McCoury perform for some time now and I was very excited to finally witness greatness. Getting the opportunity to see Del McCoury > The Heavy Heavy > Punch Brothers with a couple, close friends was some of the best times as we bounced between stages before the final two (2) acts for the evening.
Performing on the same stage about an hour after The Del McCoury Band, the Punch Brothers came up to entertain those eager, bluegrass fans who waited patiently for their set. Closing out the New Belgium Saloon Stage were The Vegabonds, a new southern/country/blues/jam rock band for me hailing from Nashville. And closing out the Main Stage (and headlining Day one) was Birmingham’s very own St. Paul and the Broken Bones, a southern soul band that made an impression on many fans who were not familiar with their incredible and vast discography.
The second day (Saturday) started off by catching the very last few songs of Tall Tall Trees. Wow! All I can say is that this one-man band was spectacular and everyone who came early will agree with me. Don’t believe me? Head over to Tall Tall Trees Official Bandcamp page and hear for yourself! North Mississippi Allstars was next up on the Main Stage, this was also a band that I have yet to see perform live. So, I was intrigued to witness their set. Let me tell you, I was very impressed by their bluesy take on Southern/jam rock. For those who do not know, the band was formed by brothers Cody and Luther Dickinson in 1996. Luther was also the former lead guitarist for The Black Crowes during 2008-2013 and has also played with the likes of Lucero, Jim Lauderdale, John Hiatt, and John Hermann to name a select few. Head over to their Official Bandcamp page today and check them out!
Saturday also had some moments in the schedule that, for me, made for some excellent memories as these three bands performed their heart out for the crowd: Fireside Collective > Yonder Mountain String Band > Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country.  I have heard about Fireside Collective only through their music popping up on my Amazon music channel here and there. What I had heard in the past was great. Watching them perform live was even better! I cannot recommend enough that you find the opportunity to go see Fireside Collective perform live.  Yonder Mountain String Band (YMSB) came on the main stage before Tanya Tucker and the headliner for Saturday, Leftover Salmon. Let me tell you that they did get that stage warmed up for them with some wicked, good selections from their amazing discography. You can read more about YMSB by following this link to check out Chris Griffy’s review of the band’s release, Get Yourself Outside.
One of the major highlights for my weekend was getting to see the next artist performing on the New Belgium Saloon Stage, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country. Imagine if Billy Strings and Sturgill Simpson had an offspring, then you get the awesomeness that is Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country. The final three performers for the evening would be: Tanya Tucker > The Lil Smokies > Leftover Salmon. What is there to say about Tanya Tucker that has not been said before? She has been an icon in the Country music scene since her career started in 1971. What an incredible set by Tanya and the crowd sang along to just about every song she performed. Of course, you know she played “Delta Dawn” to the delight of the crowd. It was truly a great experience especially for a 13-year-old girl in the audience who was a huge fan of Tanya Tucker. Closing out the festival was this year was Leftover Salmon. Leftover Salmon (Boulder, Colorado) is a Cajun/progressive bluegrass/jam band that is no stranger to performing at Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que (2019). I could not think of any other band to close out the return of Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que than Leftover Salmon and I hope they found some new fans who may not be familiar with their feel good music.
Now that we discussed the weekend’s activities, let’s talk about two more attractions at Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que: the plethora of tasty food vendors AND $6 domestic/craft beer (and I do mean REAL craft beer) tents with over 80 flavors to choose from on location! This year’s brewer’s lineup included Monday Night Brewing, Reformation, Savannah Brewing Company, Jekyll Brewing Company, Southern Brewing Company, Red Hare Brewing, Riverwatch Brewing, Dry County, Wild Leap Brewing, Akademia, Holy City Brewing, Duclaw Brewing, Sibling Revelry Brewing, Upcountry, Commonhouse Alehouse, Wicked Weed, Bell’s Brewing, Elysian Brewing, Goose Island, Breckenridge, Lonerider, Columbia Craft, Deschutes Brewing, and Slow Pour Brewing. To me, that is one amazing lineup for a craft beer selection that rivals many festivals across the Southeast.
Believe me, I am a proud beer snob and I do attend a good number of festivals. I would gladly pass on the status quo domestic brands in a heartbeat with no qualms about it. For those who do not care about craft beer, they also had some of the classics like Budweiser, Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, Shock Top, and Yuengling. Plus, many ciders, wine, and alcoholic cocktails thanks to Cutwater Canned Cocktails and 2nd City Distillery. With regards to the dedicated food vendors, there were some amazing places to fill up while enjoying some great music. Between various BBQ vendors, tacos, pizza, Italian ice, and some other tasty items, Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que has you covered with some quality food when those hunger pains hit between sets!
After another successful Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que, we can only dream for our favorite artists/bands to be added to next year’s lineup. Who do YOU think will make the cut? All I know is that regardless of who plays this event you will find me front and center!
