24-HOUR MURAL MARATHON
by Bryce Chisholm
Begun more than two decades ago, the now month-long Artown festival was created to counteract suburban flight and get more people to visit Reno’s city center. Drawing 30,000 participants in 1996 it now brings upwards of 300,000 every year. For the last five years @CircusReno, at E 5th and N Virginia Streets, has hosted the 24-Hour Mural Marathon as part of the festival, providing a stipend to cover materials and challenging 7 artists to compete for monetary awards. Among those competing in the 2018 event running from 10 am on June 30 to 10 am on July 1, was local artist Bryce Chisholm. Chisholm loves to paint and says he’ll work in pretty much any medium he can get his hands on, and on any surface he can. He says stencils have become his latest passion—a technique that no doubt helped him meet the tough time limitations of this project.  @abcartattack  @renoisartown
