If You're Into It, I'm Out of It
Though part of the Digital Hardcore circle of artists generally associated with Atari Teenage Riot's over-the-top punk-n-bass, de Babalon's debut long player was a more textured and thoughtful effort, exploring a wide gradient of intense electronic sounds. Though there are plenty of blasted Amen breaks and angry jungle tracks, much of the album tends towards slow moving dark ambient akin to Aphex Twin's moments of sinister loveliness. - Fred Thomas

Christoph De Babalon: 044 (Hilf Dir Selbst!) (2021)
Between ten tracks across this and this year’s Leaving Time, only “Ether” made the cut on Omega WUSB’s double-deluxe electronics-and-pop broadcast. That’s a shame, really. Some of his last decade’s non-archival releases did have their moments. Without the lo-fi charm of depressing greyscale ambient and endlessly-pounding jungle of his acclaimed releases, those moments are becoming more and more sparse.
