Cessna Model 305, better known as the L-19/O-1 Bird Dog, was a light aircraft used extensively during the Vietnam War for battlefield observation, FAC and SAR missions. The unarmed and unarmored Bird Dog was an anomaly. While others flew hot and heavy, the L-19 flew low and slow over some of the most dangerous pieces of real estate in world. It may be an unsung hero of the conflict, but for those who flew it, and for those it helped on the ground, the little Cessna was a saint of an aircraft.
