Dapper Don Bunty
It was 1969. Structured check suits were all the rage. Raj Kapoor’s daughter got married at the infamous RK Studios. And in this group shot with Waheeda ji is...Baby Bunty!

Lookie here! Bunty giving the muhurat clap for Dil Deewana (1973). He’s actually credit by his real name (Manoj Kumar) before the branding machine took him over. Cute.

A really cute, candid moment shot at the Sea Rock Hotel in Bombay. The one detail subtle and special enough to appreciate was the shirt style’s snap ensuring a bit of western flair that Bunty seemed to lean towards. The striped detailing on the pants aced the look.

Sorry, no corresponding interview here. But, Bunty in this solid neutral spring jacket was worth the post.

Quite possibly the most diabolical I’ve ever seen Kumar. He looked so shaitaan-y here! A cute one, but still.

“What I would love to do is mature love stories."
"I got loads of fan mail, but there was much less exposure for actors at the time. Besides I was busy working. I would leave my home at 9 am for my shoots and return late at night. There was hardly any opportunity to interact with fans."
"The situation was different then. Actors were supposed to be aloof, distance themselves from crowds. Nowadays, there is no mystery to an actor. A star should have an aura around him or her, and not expose himself to every Tom, Dick and Harry. Where is that mysticism left when actors are endorsing everything from banians to oils and doing stage shows every now and then?"
"I follow my heart and do whatever I feel is right..."
"I've done enough `bubble-gum' films and have decided to do only those films where I get to act and create a character I believe in.
Just a handful of the many great quotes from Kumar during his tenure in Bollywood. The man was astute and far ahead of the game than most of his contemporaries. I, for one, have always admired Kumar’s rough edges and would have LOVED to see him tackle a mature love story. You know the kind of film that isn’t afraid to tug at heartstrings and just lay it all out on the table. And it wasn’t nor still is fashionable to do that.
But alas...#BubbleGumBunty will always be in our heart.

Mooche ho toh Nathulal jaise ho...warna na ho. Apparently, Bunty didn’t get this message when he decided to sport this itsy bitsy, teeny weeny ‘stache.

If the internet was around during Bunty’s heyday, the one thing I know is that his hairstyles would have always made news. You know...clickbait pieces that would have once named him “The Biggest Metrosexual in Bollywood.” Array, heck, I’ll go as far as to say he had the greatest head of hair B-Town had ever seen.
