The hunger is one of the earliest examples of undeniable canon Symbrock in the comics. The handholding while watching a movie, the heart shaped chocolate box, the pink heart at the end, "we'll live happily ever after" ? Let's not forget this quote: "It's not human, but it's given me things no girlfriend ever could". Eddie and the symbiote have been in love since the 90s. It's always been a love story.

Eddie admitting heā€™s maybe a little in love with Venom. You know, I think the scene we got for the movie was perfect, as it was concise, sweet, and clear enough to be understood as a romantic moment between these characters. (Come on, it doesnā€™t get more romantic than watching the sunset together on a beach). But if we would have gotten this small exchange between them as well, it would have made everything that happened between them in the movie irrevocably romantic. It was the culmination and the answer to all the tension between them, the bickering, and ultimately, the getting back together despite everything. And it would have shone a light on Eddieā€™s future after the break-up with Anne was completely finalized, as it would have declared that Eddieā€™s heart is mending, and while he seems reluctant or afraid to love again (especially with the added difficulty it must be for him to wrap his mind around beingĀ ā€œmaybe a littleā€ in love with an alien that inhabits his body), Eddie will love again and be loved in returned. Eddieā€™s hopes with Anne are over, but Eddie will not be alone, going forward.
This moment establishing the relationship between them as unequivocally romantic, is probably why the exchange was ultimately cut from the movie--they might have wanted to test the reaction first, or maybe they were afraid of the movie performing poorly outside of the US because of this. The fact that it was released as an extended scene gives me hope that they have recognized that there is a lot of support for this relationship in a romantic context and not just a buddy-buddy context. The fact that Venom 2 exists as it is and how it was promoted as a romcom as well shows that they already recognize the fact that the success of the movie is powered by supporters of a romantic reading between Venom and Eddie, and now after LTBCā€™s solid performance and the love for the extended scene, they have no reason not to go even further with these characters and their relationship as a romantic one.Ā
I hope Venom 3 picks up from there, because it will be beautiful to see Eddie come to terms with the truth that he is maybe more than a little in love with Venom, and that perhaps itā€™s time that he allows himself to love and be loved again--even though Venom is an alien from outer space that inhabits his body. Thatā€™s something I would really love to see in Venom 3, Eddie coming to terms with this and ultimately embracing it.

It really blows my mind that the *one thing* people seem to have an issue with Symbrock is how it can be read as gay. This is a love relationship between a human man and an alien creature that lives inside said human manā€™s BODY and the one issue people have with this relationship is that it could potentially be seen as gay. Look, Iā€™m a Symbrock lover so OF COURSE I have zero issues with this, but I recognize that, if thereā€™s *one* thing to be weirded out about these two is the fact that one of them is a human and the other one is a freaking terrifying looking alien creature thatā€™s only corporeal as a sludge thing unless inhabiting a human host, and the two are romantically, (soulfully even,Ā in the comic books) involved with each other. Thatā€™s the only thing that should be understandably weird for some people. Not the fact that it can be read as gay. Like??
Yeah, again, I ship them and adore their dynamic and the intensity of the relationship especially as seen in some of the comic books, but it freaking blows my mind that the one thing people would hate and would be weirded out with is these characters being perceived as gay. People find it stranger and more off-putting that Eddie Brock could potentially be seen as other than straight, over him being a hardcore Monsterfucker in love with a freaking sludge monster that inhabits his own body and eats people. And people hate on Venom being potentially perceived as a gay creature more than Venom being in love with Eddie or anything the character has ever done. The amount of times Iā€™ve seen people (mostly dudebros) bring up thatĀ ā€œVenom canā€™t be gay because he has no gender so Eddie and Venom are not in a gay relationshipā€ when threatened by Symbrock these past few days (notice that I bolded ā€œheā€ because they say Venom has no gender, then proceed to assign the male gender anyway)... Yeah maybe itā€™s not gay but itā€™s definitely queer so whatā€™s your point? Why so pressed? Unbelievable.Ā
I hope Venom 3 is even gayer.Ā

When Venom went like ā€œLook at all these weirdos! My kind of people!ā€ at the gay rave, I felt seen.

I just love Tom Hardy. The man really saw what we loved about Venom and went ahead and not only embraced it, but he even co-wrote the story for the second movie. The man really has our backs? Like thatā€™s such an unusual thing to happen. He really took the story in the direction he knew would make the fans happy and I love him for that. This is really so special and I appreciate it so damn much. This kind of thing just doesnā€™t happen, especially when what the fans want is queer. This man went ahead and gave us a romcom complete with coming out scene for Venom and a Symbrock happy ending watching the sunset together. Do you know how fucking insane that is?? To have an actorā€™s support like this?? Do you know how lucky we are to have Tom Hardy?? I love this man because he cares about the people who are consuming his product. Heā€™s there for us. He really went the extra mile for us little Symbrock fans. This movie was as queer as it could possibly be as a mass-market movie. So yes, Tom Hardy is now one of my favorite people. Thank you Tom, and thank you Andy Serkis and Kelly Marcel for supporting this as well.Ā Ā
