The following examples are various ways in which you can use data visualizations to improve your own communication efforts.

The visualization can show the percentage of people who answered each question in the survey. This can help you quickly see which questions were most popular, and which questions had the most diverse responses.
A data visualization can also help you communicate trends over time. For example, if you want to show how the popularity of a certain product has changed over time, a data visualization can help you do this. The visualization can show the number of people who have purchased the product each month. This can help you see whether the popularity of the product is increasing or decreasing.
Overall, a data visualization can be a very useful tool for communicating information more effectively. By organizing and displaying data in a way that is easy to understand, a data visualization can help you communicate your message more effectively to your audience.

There are a few reasons why data visualization is particularly effective for web applications. Firstly, it allows complex data to be displayed in an easily digestible format. Secondly, it can be used to interact with data in order to uncover patterns and trends. Finally, it is a very effective way of communicating information to a wide audience.
Tumblr media
Data visualization works so well for web applications because it makes use of the visual processing abilities of the brain. The brain is able to interpret visual information much faster than textual information. This means that data visualization can communicate a lot of information in a short amount of time. Additionally, data visualization can be used to reveal patterns and trends that would not be apparent from looking at raw data. This is because the brain is able to spot patterns more easily when they are displayed visually.
Finally, data visualization is an effective way of communicating information to a wide audience. This is because everyone can understand visual information, regardless of language barriers. Data visualization is also accessible to people with different levels of literacy.
10 Examples of Data Visualizations
A pie chart is a great way to show how a whole is divided into parts.
A bar graph can be used to compare data sets side by side.
A line graph is perfect for tracking changes over time.
A scatter plot can be used to show the relationship between two variables.
A histogram is an ideal way to visualize the distribution of data.
A heat map is an excellent way to compare data sets that have many variables.
A tree map can help you to see patterns in hierarchical data sets.
A bubble chart is a great way to compare three variables at once.
An area graph can be used to show how parts of a whole change over time.
A choropleth map is an ideal way to visualize geographical data sets.
Examples of the use of Different Visual Aids
Maps are a great way to communicate spatial information. You can use them to show where things are located in relation to each other. For example, you could use a map to show the distribution of a population or the location of different businesses.
Graphs and charts are a great way to communicate numerical information. They can help you to visualize trends and patterns. For example, you could use a line graph to show how a population has changed over time, or a bar chart to compare the populations of different countries.
Images and photographs can be used to communicate information about people or places. For example, you could use an image of a person to show their emotions, or use a photograph of a place to show its beauty.
Words can be used to communicate information in a clear and concise way. For example, you could use words to explain the results of a data analysis, or use them to describe the steps in a process.
Conclusion
There are countless ways that data visualization can help you communicate more effectively. In this article, we’ve covered just a few examples of how data visualization can be used to your advantage. By understanding the power of data visualization and incorporating it into your communication strategy, you’ll be able to more effectively get your point across and make an impact.

In today's competitive era, having a solid online presence is essential for businesses. After all, your website is the virtual storefront showcasing your line of business, products and services to your target audiences. However, with so many website-building options available, choosing the right platform can feel overwhelming.
That's where WordPress comes in. So, what started off as a blogging tool has quickly evolved into a powerful website builder and a robust content management system. Yes, we are talking about WordPress, the powerful CMS that constitutes more than 40% of the websites across the world. If that isn't already an impressive enough statistic to help convince you why you should choose WordPress, then keep reading.
WordPress
WordPress is an excellent CMS that enables WordPress website developers to create, edit and publish content such as blogs, websites, e-commerce products and more. The world's most powerful platform is used by countless businesses to build their website, and for good reason. Let's delve into the top reasons why you, as a small business owner, should consider joining the WordPress bandwagon-
Free to use
WordPress is a free platform, which means the WordPress website developers are free to download, install, use, and modify it to match your business needs. While the software is free, you would still require a domain name as well as web hosting to install and start using it.
Ease of use
WordPress is one of the most flexible and powerful platforms; therefore, WordPress website developers find it quite easy to use. The platform comes with a simple dashboard with different menu options in the sidebar,y making it easier to create posts and pages and customise the website design. It regularly releases updates so that WordPress professionals can easily install it with mere a click of a button. There are excellent plugins for backups that allow you to set up automatic backups. In addition, it also comes with secure best practices, which makes the website secure.
Customizable
Most WordPress professionals find the platform to be the perfect solution because there are thousands of free templates or themes from which to choose. These themes are easy to customise because many of them come with their own options panel, allowing you to change the colours and background, create sliders, and truly customise anything without writing the code.
SEO Friendly
Any website in the world will not be a success if it doesn't attract traffic or the target audiences. Luckily, WordPress is built with SEO-search engine traffic in mind. It uses high-quality code with semantic markup, which means Google and other search engines platforms can easily keep track of your website. This is why WordPress websites tend to rank higher than other search engines.
Highly Flexible
As your business scales, you need a reliable platform to ensure the higher traffic does not disrupt the overall user experience. WordPress offers higher scalability for websites and can easily handle traffic. It uses caching to store content locally, so when the user requests data, reloading the website is easy, and data is available. Also, when it comes to flexibility, it allows businesses to customise their features.
Third-party Integrations
WordPress's website has loads of features that offer advanced functionalities. However, if your website needs additional functionality, you would need to integrate the external services. For example, an eCommerce website may require additional functionality like payment gateway integrations. External services may use a different programming language, or you may plan to integrate a custom plugin for which Rest APIs are also the best option. The Rest APIs in WordPress enable enhanced third-party integrations for added functionalities and improved performance.
Minimal coding

WordPress is a highly secure platform that includes user authentication mechanisms, secure plugin integrations, and monitoring. It has key components, including-
Theme security & Plugins
There are several plugins and themes which offer better website security.
WordPress core
It is secure and requires timely updates, thereby providing regular security updates for the core services you need.

Digital Retailing: Understanding and Communicating with the E-Consumer.
Over the last few years digital retailing and e-commerce have been steadily increasing. And then with the COVID-19 pandemic and months of lockdown, e-commerce has skyrocketed. In 2022 the United States' eCommerce surpassed one trillion dollars (Clark, 2022) and holds roughly an 11.27% annual growth rate (Statista, 2022).
Hi, my name is Megan Wilhoit I am a digital marketing student at Davenport University in Michigan, and I am a consumer. I am lucky enough to come from a generation who grew up with technology as an aid to my life and have it not consume my life. Because of this, I was able to see how retail has changed over the years for the average consumer. I get to see firsthand how new technology is impacting our lives, whether that is an advantage or disadvantage. And as someone who is is wanting to go into digital marketing, getting to experience how digital retail affects consumers and how they shop is super important.
I remember the days when if I couldn’t find something at Meijer, I would go to a different store or find the next best alternative. But now we live in a world where if I don’t see a specific product in store, I go straight to Amazon, or that store's website, and order it to be at my doorstep in one day. Over the last 23 years, I have gotten to witness the fantastic advantages e-shopping has brought to e-consumers. But I have also gotten to see the disadvantages that come with e-shopping for consumers. And when comparing the advantages and disadvantages, it makes me start to wonder how “great” e-shopping really is for the average consumer.
One of the most common advantages I have seen is the convenience e-shopping has brought to consumers. Like I stated before, I remember the days when if something could not be found in-store, you would have to go to a different location or store to find the product or you could maybe order the product online. But now with e-retailing, consumers (like myself) can purchase products from anywhere online. I don’t need to go in person to look for a product. Also, online retailers such as Amazon, have even made the online purchasing environment even easier, using “buy now with one click” options, saving your address and payment information for future purchases, and easily being able to re-purchase goods you have bought in the past. With these benefits, consumers are also not having to put in as much effort and thinking when it comes to buying. These benefits are focused more on non-perishable items, but e-retailers have even been bringing grocery shopping online. With companies such as Shipt, Instacart, or grocery stores' online grocery shopping applications, consumers can do their weekly grocery shopping from the comfort of their homes or during breaks at work. Consumers can even schedule when they want their groceries to be delivered and schedule future grocery shopping for their most common items.
The convenience of e-retailing can also be viewed from a location standpoint. E-retailing can put consumers in contact with brands all across the world, or just help consumers reach retailers who don’t have a physical location near them.
Two personal examples of location convince that come to mind are 1, I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I am fortunate enough to live near many malls and shopping centers, but one huge company I don’t have nearby is IKEA. With my current financial situation (being a college student and only working part-time), I cannot afford to purchase expensive furniture (even if it will last me longer). So using IKEA can really help save me money. And with e-retailing, I am actually able to purchase their products without having to drive the two and half hour journey. IKEA even offers a “design” feature on their online store where consumers (such as myself) and design out how furniture will fit and look into space. Without e-retailing and its features I would have to truly envision a space with furniture, measure out the open spaces, write a list of these measurements, and still have to make an almost 3-hour car ride to a store where the products in mind may not even be in stock. E-retailing has been able to completely cut out these inconveniences for consumers online. My other personal experience deals with local businesses. Every year I go to Mackinac Island. On the island, there are so many cute local shops and boutiques, and I love looking through them to get gift ideas. With e-retailing I can now take their business cards home with me and still be able to purchase their products from my hometown of Grand Rapids, instead of having to make the purchase the exact moment I am on the island. E-retailing has made connecting with local businesses online plausible.
Some other advantages e-retailing has brought consumers are the variety of products or “breadth and depth” as well as the personalization of products. Online stores are able to hold a much larger stock of products for consumers than a traditional store can hold. This allows of consumers to have much more variety in styles, sizing, colors, etc. Also with online shopping, personalizing individual products is much easier. Whether that orders a custom-sized couch to fit a specific living area or customing a pair of Nikes to your significant other's favorite colors. Another area of personalization online retail stores has been able to add sections such as “customers also bought”. Consumers can use these features to find other products or brands similar to what they already have purchased while having this feeling of personalization with the company.
The last “common” advantage e-retailing brings to consumers is the pricing and the ease of product comparisons. Pricing has been found to be cheaper through online retailers because “online retailers may have fewer overhead costs” (Kelly and Baker, 2022), as well as the ease of finding coupon codes and extra sales. Also with the ease of e-retailing consumers can easily compare prices of specific products on different websites to see which site is going to give them the best deal. The same thing goes for products. For me when I think of when I want to buy a dress for a more formal occasion. I can now use the Internet to not only find different brands but also compare their prices, reviews, and style options before making my final purchase. There are also even websites and apps that will compare prices for items for the consumer. The most common occurrence of this I think is comparing airline prices through travel agencies such as Trivago and Google itself.
Although e-retailing has brought consumers so many amazing advantages and conveniences, e-retailing also brings consumers some disadvantages.
One common disadvantage is the lack of security and the fear consumers feel about their information being stolen. For major brands online stores, consumers may feel more comfortable inputting their information, but for smaller or newer brands consumers may have a fear of having their information stolen. And if businesses do not input proper safety measures for this secure information, consumers' personal information can be stolen they will no longer want to shop from that specific e-retail store. I have never had my information stolen through online retail stores, but I am extra careful of what websites I input this information just for extra precaution. Another large disadvantage consumers face with online shopping is the lack of personal interaction. This social interaction can help consumers build loyalty to a brand. I also know from personal experience I really enjoy the interaction in traditional retail stores so I can receive a second opinion from “the expert”, and when purchasing more expensive items such as furniture, it is nice to get that expert opinion and see what they have to offer and if they can make any recommendations, and this cannot be done easily through e-retailing.
Some other disadvantages that customers face with e-retailing (and I have personally experienced) are delivery times can be extremely long or customers have to pay extra money to have products delivered sooner, issues with online refunds, and not being able to actually use our five senses to buy products on the e-retail store.
Customer reviews are one feature of online retailing that I have seen to be an advantage AND a disadvantage for customers. As an advantage, it gives customers a better idea of how products look (with real-life customer images), how materials hold up, and overall how other customers like the product. This can help influence a customer's purchase decision. From my experience, I always read customer reviews before an online purchase now, and if I read any bad reviews I either don’t purchase at all or I have to really think about if I want to make this risky purchase. But I also view customer reviews as a disadvantage sometimes. For starters, some products can have really mixed reviews and it doesn’t help a customer in determining if they want to purchase the product. But also today brands use “influencer marketing” so much more, they pay “influencers” to talk good about their products and promote them, and will even give out sales codes for the influencer's audience to use. With this, it’s hard to tell what reviews are based on personal experience or if they're just being paid to leave good reviews. One example of this that I have seen is with the Beis Weekender Bag/Tote. This product was heavily advertised on TikTok over the last 6 months or so. Every influencer was raving about it and calling it “the best travel bag ever”. Then the average consumer started buying this bag but realized this bag sucked for travel (especially flying). So through these “deceiving” reviews, consumers wasted their money on a product that doesn't actually do its job and this reflects poorly on the brand itself.

Selecting the Best Content Management System for Your Business Website
Tumblr media
The content management system (CMS) powering your business website significantly impacts its capabilities, performance, and ease of use over time. With web developers today spoiled for choice between open source CMS options like WordPress and Drupal or proprietary systems like Adobe Experience Manager and HubSpot, the evaluation process proves daunting for companies. When embarking on a website project or redesign, stay focused on your organization’s unique needs, resources, and business priorities when weighing the pros and cons of various CMS platforms.
First, take time to thoroughly consider what types of content, assets, and functionality matter most to your brand and audience day to day. For example, blogging, news publishing and journalist teams center heavily around text creation and workflow. Multimedia creatives and marketers, however, need robust digital asset management and organization. Let your website designer align technology recommendations to your primary content focus and goals.
Also, realistically assess the technical skills and resources your team brings to the table for effectively managing the CMS if opting for an open source platform like Drupal or Joomla. While extremely powerful, these systems demand solid web development expertise to customize, which represents an added cost. Simpler tools like WordPress may suffice.
Evaluate prospective CMS options in regards to built-in workflow capabilities as well, like approvals, permissions, and multi-channel content publishing abilities out of the box. Understanding your collaborators’ needs shaping real-world content operations keeps implementations smoother. Select CMS tools accordingly.
Importantly, test and ensure any short-listed CMS easily integrates with your other vital back-end systems like ecommerce engines, CRM platforms, marketing automation tools, etc. An experienced website designer already familiar with related integrations will recognize any limitations or hurdles.
Lastly, the ultimate CMS decision should effectively balance your desired functionality wishlist, readiness of staff resources to leverage the platform fully, and sufficient ease of use for non-technical folks who will actually manage content. With an expert website designer guiding the process holistically using these criteria, your ideal CMS solution match for current and future needs emerges.

This comprehensive guide will provide you with a step-by-step framework for building a profitable online business from the ground up. Whether you want to start a side business or build a full-time online empire, follow this ultimate guide to turn your idea into a thriving, sustainable online business. With focus, grit, and commitment to continuous improvement, you can build the profitable online business of your dreams.
Selecting a Niche and Business Model: The Foundation of Success
The foundation of every successful online business is choosing a profitable, in-demand niche and a business model tailored to your goals. Select a niche you're passionate about; this will make creating content a breeze. Conduct thorough keyword research to assess search volume and demand. Join relevant online communities to connect with your audience and understand their needs. Evaluate direct competitors in the niche and aim for less saturated niches or unique angles. Consider affiliate marketing potential, as some niches offer higher commissions. Assess opportunities to create multiple products and monetize in diverse ways. Examples of popular online business niches include health, fitness, personal finance, pet care, tech, travel, content marketing, home design, spirituality, language learning, and more. Choose a business model that complements your niche and provides multiple income stream opportunities. Many successful online businesses incorporate 3-4 monetization models. Some of the best online business models to consider include: 1. Blogging: Make money with display ads, affiliates, and branded products. 2. Online Courses: Sell your knowledge and expertise as courses. 3. Dropshipping: Curate and sell products without inventory. 4. Affiliate Marketing: Earn commissions promoting other companies' products. 5. Information Products: Sell online books, templates, checklists, and more. 6. Virtual Services: Provide consulting, freelancing, coaching, or other services. 7. Subscription Membership Site: Offer exclusive content or tools for a monthly fee. 8. E-commerce Store: Sell physical products, merchandising, and more. Your choice should complement your niche and offer multiple income streams. Many successful online businesses incorporate 3-4 monetization models.
Building Your Online Platform and Brand: Your Digital Headquarters
Your website or blog will serve as the headquarters for your online business. Invest time upfront in creating an optimized, professional-looking platform. Purchase a domain name that matches your brand, ideally a .com if available. Select reliable web hosting with optimal speed and uptime. Install WordPress or ecommerce platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce. Design an on-brand, mobile-responsive theme that conveys your style. Include essential pages like Home, About, Contact, Services, Blog, and Shop. Set up email marketing and analytics to capture leads and track traffic data. Create visually branded assets such as logos, color palettes, fonts, and graphics. Ensure a cohesive user experience across all touchpoints. If you lack web development skills, consider hiring a freelance designer to bring your vision to life. Continually optimize your website for higher traffic, leads, and sales over time. This includes technical enhancements, user experience improvements, and page speed optimizations.
Creating High-Demand Products and Services: Delivering Value to Your Audience
The key to running a profitable online business is consistently creating products and services that deliver extreme value to your audience. Popular digital products you can create include online courses, eBooks, guides, checklists, software, premium memberships, virtual events, video tutorials, templates, and more. When brainstorming products, look for opportunities to simplify lives, save time, educate, entertain, or improve outcomes for your target customers. Leverage your expertise and tap into the skills of others to create premium offerings. High-value services like consulting, freelancing, coaching, and more can also be extremely lucrative. Promote your services through your website and social platforms. Structure your offerings to passively earn income over time, such as online courses that continually generate sales vs. 1-on-1 services that require ongoing effort. Deliver an excellent user experience across your products and relentlessly optimize based on feedback to foster raving fans who refer others.

Social Media Marketing: Employ organic and paid tactics to engage your audience. 6. Affiliate Marketing: Recruit others to promote your products and earn commissions. 7. Influencer Partnerships: Collaborate with relevant influencers in your niche. 8. Live Events: Host local meetups or virtual events to connect with your audience. 9. Podcast Guest Appearances: Grow your authority and reach new audiences. 10. Retargeting Ads: Remarket to previous site visitors across the web. Leverage tools like Google Analytics, Facebook Business Suite, and landing page builders to optimize results across all campaigns. Don't hesitate to enlist help from digital marketing agencies and specialists.

Strong Print on Demand Online Store | Marketing Strategies
You are no stranger to marketing if you have a successful offline business. However, strategies for driving traffic to your online store can be a completely different beast. You’ll be able to reach more potential buyers than ever before with your print on demand online store, and you’ll have complete control over their shopping experience. To make the most of all your channels, you must consider how to drive traffic to your website and how to implement marketing between your online store and your offline businesses.
TOP MARKETING TECHNIQUES FOR YOUR PRINT ON DEMAND ONLINE STORE
1. Increase your organic social presence.
You’ll want to take advantage of every opportunity to increase your digital engagement with your print on demand online business. Giving a little extra love to your social media channels and making sure they’re stocked with vibrant images and engaging videos is one of the simplest and most effective ways. However, if you already have a strong presence on social media with a core audience, now is the time to expand. Increase your posts and spend a little more time creating rich visual content and short, engaging videos. Increasing engagement with your followers increases the likelihood of brand awareness. Furthermore, make certain that your online presence is appropriate for your target customers.
2. Make use of your email list.
Even in a physical store, a strong email marketing strategy is essential. Gather as many email addresses as possible from customers, prospective customers, people interested in your events, and so on. When you launch, you’ll be able to send an email to all of those people. You can inform them that they can now shop online at your store. Consider offering a promotion to those on your email list or a referral discount to encourage customers to share your site with friends and family. Email remains one of the most effective marketing tools in the eCommerce toolbox, so continue to collect email addresses on your site.
3. Try using Google Ads.
Using Google Ads for search engine marketing allows you to bid on keywords first on search engine results pages. Obtaining the coveted “top spot” is the goal of search engine optimization. Search engine marketing is an excellent way to promote your website because it requires no design and can effectively drive new traffic. You’ll get results in real-time and be able to adjust your campaign strategies as you go based on performance.
4. Collaborate with complementary brands.
Form alliances with other businesses to cross-promote. Find a company with a similar target audience but a different product. As a result, each business partner reaches a completely new and relevant audience. For example, if you sell ketogenic foods, a relevant partnership could be with a brand that specializes in keto supplements and oils. Actual cross-promotion methods vary, and there are ways to do it at every level of the funnel.
Co-sponsoring an outdoor living podcast or blog is an example of a top-of-funnel activity. A co-branded gift guide could be a great initiative depending on the time of year. You could also do down-funnel promotions, such as offering a discount on one product in exchange for purchasing another. Partnering with a print on demand company that sells print on demand products are the best and easiest way to do this.
5. Make use of your physical store.
If your physical store has a strong brand and a loyal following, you can use your in-person interactions with customers to drive traffic to your new online store. You can use non-intrusive methods to keep customers engaged with your brand even after leaving the store. It may include asking them to sign up for your email list at checkout, informing them about your customer loyalty program if you have one, and drawing their attention to social media advertisements you’re running that they might want to follow. Consider providing flyers with promotion codes that they can share with friends and family.
CONCLUSION
Selling print on demand products online for the first time or expanding your online presence to become a vital retail channel may appear daunting, but it is more than doable if you take it one step at a time. Maintain consistency, be patient, and avoid becoming overwhelmed by doing too much at once. Follow the marketing strategies listed above that you believe will yield the best results for your company. Then, as you begin to see results, tweak and adjust. Check out this extra tips: Secrets to Boost Your Print on Demand Business Sales in 2022

WordPress vs. Squarespace Comparison
  WordPress Vs. Squarespace:
When it comes to choosing between Squarespace and WordPress, first and foremost, it is crucial to know about the two options. So, here is an introduction to both website builders in short.  Squarespace is a SaaS or a Software as a Service. This tool is readily suited for beginners and has an all-in-one design. It was created for users who want to pay just a single amount as a fee to have access to almost anything on the website. The monthly subscriptions for Squarespace include site management, plugins, templates, and more. The overall site is pretty user-friendly and has options for hosting. Also, there are no coding requirements, so this seems to be an ideal site for beginners without experience in coding.  WordPress is another very popular SaaS platform that is hosted and has been designed specifically for beginners. There are customizable features on the WordPress site, so it is very beneficial for people who want to create and maintain smaller blogs and websites most efficiently. One of the best things about the website-building tool is that there is a free option for those who want to get some practice before signing in with the right deal. Apart from that, there are paid plans with other stellar features and add-on options.

Choosing Between the Two: Which One is Better?
It is important to remember that WordPress and Squarespace provide website creation options for users. These sites offer tools, templates, and other features to simplify the process of website creation. Also, you don't require any coding knowledge to operate both sites. However, the experience of building a website with both tools is completely different. To ensure that you have a great experience in creating your site, it is important to choose the correct platform. You can also Hire a Professional Website Developer in the USA for services. However, if you want to make your own choices and set up your website, you have to choose between the two.
Stacking Up the Platforms Together: A Detailed Comparison
Features
  Squarespace
WordPress
Ease of Use
When it comes to ease of use, this site is elementary and ideal for beginners. You don’t have to learn coding to use the tool and create your website.
WordPress might be a bit more challenging to operate than Squarespace if you have no experience. Although no coding experience is required on this site, there is a steep learning curve, and you will have to know some basics about operating the tool and creating your website or blog.
SEO Options
In Squarespace, you will receive essential meta-descriptions and customized URLs for different pages. Another great thing is that you can access Google Analytics no matter what plan you choose in this fantastic website builder.
Users using the free version might not have access to the SEO tools and options. However, for users with an eCommerce plan or Business Plan, there are different 3rd party plugins for them to install to maximize the SEO section of their website.
Blogging
This website builder has essential in-built blogging tools, making the blogging process easy. You can choose from various tools such as Post Scheduling Tags, Comment Moderation, Categories, and much more.
There is a free plan in WordPress where the users will be provided with the critical blogger options for beginners, 3GB storage and a hosted site. However, with the paid plans, there are other options for blogging, such as customization options and much more.
Plan Costs
$12-$40 per month
$4-$45 per month
Customer Support
In the case of customer support, there are various options available for users to choose from. For example, one can get 24/7 help via social media, live chat, and email. However, there is no phone option available for the users in Squarespace.
The customer support section for free WordPress users includes limited phone support. However, one-on-one concierge and live chat options will be made available to users once they have chosen a particular plan for themselves.
eCommerce Options
The users of Squarespace will be able to sell both digital as well as physical products on the website created using this tool. Apart from that, they can sell services on the site too.
The users with an eCommerce plan can sell physical and digital products in their store. There are other plans, but these do not allow the creation of online stores. For other users, only the blogging option is available.
Storage and Backup
The storage space is unlimited for users. But they will have to back their data and website content manually as no auto-upload feature is available on this website builder.
In the case of WordPress, the website content is automatically and adequately backed up. Also, users have different storage space options, and the amount of storage depends on your chosen payment plan.

RECENT NEWS, RESOURCES AND STUDIES, Early August 2022
Tumblr media
Welcome to my latest summary of the top news, studies and helpful resources for ecommerce (including Etsy), social media, marketing and SEO, compiled since my last update in July. For a time that is supposed to be summer vacation for a lot of us, there has really been a ton of news to get caught up on! I've organized it for you so you can skip what you don't need to know.
Questions or comments? Please reply below on this post, email me through my website, or contact me on Twitter.
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
There is a potential Royal Mail strike looming, currently scheduled for only 4 days: Aug. 26, Aug. 31, and Sept. 8-9.
Online businesses aren’t the only ones struggling with economic factors at the moment: more than half of US small retailers think they could close for good by the end of the third quarter. “Owners cite a host of reasons, including inflation, higher interest rates, gas prices, rent hikes, supply chain disruptions, lower consumer spending, fears of a recession and losses left over from 2020 and 2021.”
There have been a lot of reports of retailers being overstocked and desperate to clear out old merchandise. It’s a combination of supply chain, economic downturns, and the fact that: many people are spending what money they have on experiences and travel rather than products. Despite this, US ecommerce spending was apparently up almost 12% in July; “Apparel (+16.6%) and Jewelry (+18.6%) sales saw strong demand-driven year-over-year growth, well outpacing sector-specific inflation.”
Since we may be headed into tougher economic times, this is an excellent point for everyone to consider what types of courses and other materials we can offer to diversify our incomes. Squarespace wrote a decent article on offering classes and workshops online that could come in handy. (Of course, they are promoting their own platform to do this on, but there is enough info to get some ideas started that can be carried out elsewhere.)
ETSY NEWS
There has been a bit of controversy over Etsy using Plaid to verify bank accounts for US sellers. Contrary to some worries, it is possible to do this without giving Plaid your banking password. Note there are lots of different applications for Plaid, including both identity & authentications. It's commonly used for many financial apps such as budgeting and portfolio management. (In those uses, it is a bit similar to using your credit card through PayPal - the site you are purchasing on doesn't see your info; only PayPal does.) There are a few other examples of its use here. Two other problems: Plaid settled a class action lawsuit about privacy and deceptive practices very recently, and some sellers are unable to verify their accounts or get payments after using Plaid. See examples here, here, here, here, and here. Those are just a few examples, but note that many people are having no issue using Plaid, and non-US sellers have had issues verifying their bank accounts even without Plaid.
The new Purchase Protection program requires the buyer to open a case against the seller’s shop - but Etsy says that will no longer count against sellers as of August 1. Cases will no longer affect search ranking, for example; they’ve been removed from the Search Ranking Policy Page as of July 6. (Here is a comparison with the previous version of that policy; refresh if it won’t load the first time.) It is also explained on the general buyer info page: “What does a case mean for a seller? We understand sometimes things don't go as expected, and the case system is designed for Etsy to review the situation and do our best to find a resolution that works for both parties. Occasional cases will not impact the shop.” Please let me know if you have any unexpected experiences with the program, as a buyer or seller!
These days  it feels like we should have a separate section of this report for the latest items Etsy is removing by accident or is intentionally banning. The site put out an article in June explaining more about safe product development and regulations in various countries. Some recent removal developments:
Etsy has blocked the sale of almost all knives to the UK, including simple cutlery. The legal reasons are detailed here. One seller of non-prohibited items came up with a solution.
Children’s clothing with drawstrings and loose clothing are also banned, but Etsy is removing all sorts of random pyjamas and other clothing that should be allowed, including adult clothing. See examples here and here.
Some types of plants (a new plants and seeds policy was published August 1) There are more details here. The plant ban has received outside attention.
Etsy sales were down 6% in the second quarter, but they are actually doing fairly well compared to the rest of ecommerce; see my full report here.
There are few updates to the Canadian tax situation, other than the fact that they added bulk editing to the Domestic pricing Tool, although that doesn’t include listings with over 400 variations, listings with pricing variations, or digital listings, plus it can’t be used on the app. It does appear that Etsy stopped charging BC PST on orders from outside the country, and has tried to stop charging tax on tax, but of course they have done the calculations wrong.
In a possibly related development, a small number of sellers report that Canadians can’t buy all of their items. I tried, and it wouldn’t accept any postal code as valid for the shop posting in this thread.
Star Sellers received notice by email that they’d have access to Chat Support, but the rest of us don’t. So if you are unlucky enough to live somewhere that doesn’t have tracking that Etsy can integrate with its system, you are paying that fee hike so that other people get Support.
As promised, Etsy has rolled all Messages from the same member into one thread, meaning you no longer have to reply to every message when a buyer sends a bunch at once. No word on if we are going to see the “Messenger” again or not.
The new seller app is still a work in progress, but they are pushing people to use it to help find the bugs. The old seller app will still work until at least the end of 2022. Here’s a video on the app.
Etsy Explore is one of the new features you can only use through the new seller app at the moment (and is also supposedly limited to Apple products and US sellers, but I have talked to a few Canadians using it.) It allows sellers to post more extended videos than are currently allowed in listings, with sound. You can find the portal here. Note that like many other Etsy features today, we are warned that only shops without “prior, current, or pending policy violations” are allowed to use Explore. I am guessing this is more about twisting seller arms to comply with the rules rather than the integrity of “Explore”.
The next Etsy sale is for Labour Day. The rules are “schedule a sale of at least 15% off from August 31-September 4 and then increase your sale to at least 25% off from September 5-6 to help attract more shoppers.” Note this is only for the US and Canada, and only for the mobile app (i.e., it doesn’t include all mobile). Etsy claims that its current cohort of buyers really like sales.
Of course, if buyers want discounts, Etsy will push sellers to offer them. That's why they released a new Seller Handbook article on getting found through the Etsy Updates feed, which requires sales or coupons, or new/restocked items for your shop to appear. Note that the article isn’t fully accurate when they say “if you put an item on sale or add new inventory, buyers who have followed your shop or have favorited your items will get a notification in their Updates feed.” A few sellers have been observing this with me over several months, and it is clear that not all of these occurrences show up in all of your followers’ feeds any more. For example, I follow my own jewellery shop with my other shop account, and do not see any of my clearance sales announced, nor all of my new items, and I am definitely not seeing new items from every shop I follow.
The latest buyer trends article covers the holidays in November and December. Etsy is predicting more interest in nature, sparkle and shine, vintage, bright colours including a lot of emerald green, and of course, gifts of all sorts. Examples of increased searches include: “193% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “black satin dress” … 78% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “brooch vintage”...336% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “modern candle”...142% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “custom photo keychain”.
Etsy is offering a pre-holiday panel event on September 8 at 1 pm ET called “Etsy Up: Holiday Edition”. You can register here, and learn more here. There’s no info on how long it will last, or whether or not the materials will be available to people who cannot log in at that time, or if the materials will be made available in accessible formats during the event or afterwards. While video events are popular these days, they usually aren’t very easy to participate in for folks who have problems hearing, seeing, or following events without text, or don’t have unlimited high-speed internet. Etsy really needs to do better here.
You know all of those annoying nudges Etsy shoves into your shop manager? The latest approach is to post them all in one thread for the month. I guess the holiday calendar is at least useful.
As reported in my last update, Etsy is closing their office in Hudson, NY, and is also closing the San Francisco office. Employees will work remotely. That will leave Etsy with only 3 physical office spaces - Brooklyn, Dublin, and Mexico City.
Check out the Etsy Design Award winners here.
This story about how tech work used to get done at Etsy is amazing, funny, and really not very surprising to any of us who were selling on Etsy back then. One tidbit: “There apparently was this entire phenomenon of sellers putting up sexy pictures of themselves, and then people making treasuries out of them. But engineers and leadership never knew about this because the moderators were just filtering that stuff out.”
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
Getting rid of old and less-relevant content is a good way to boost your entire site’s ranking.
The best way to write alt-text for images is to keep it short. People using screen readers do not usually want to sit through a long explanation.
5 case studies from Google’s May Core Update indicate that Google might have been tinkering after the initial rollout. “Machine learning could make it nearly impossible to reverse engineer what Google is doing.”
The Google product reviews update in July seemed fairly tame, with little ranking change for most sites.
Did you know there are keyword tools and sources that solely deal with videos? Here are 6 of them.
SOCIAL MEDIA - All Aspects, By Site
General Many different social platforms have tools and features to help you sell; here are 12 options (including one on Amazon).
Facebook (includes relevant general news from Meta) As rumoured a few months back, Facebook split its News feed into 2 parts: “Feeds” (the things you follow) and “Home” (the things Facebook’s algorithm thinks you want to see, including pages that you do not follow). Many see this as Facebook chasing TikTok. Also note that …”adverts are included in the Feeds tab but “suggested for you” posts are not, increasing the value of paying for “reach” on the site as opposed to trying to grow “organically” by gaming the site’s algorithms.”
Meta projects that its third quarter revenue will be down from 2021, lower than others expected, and the second quarter was down as well.
Facebook’s live shopping option will end October 1, but Instagram is keeping the option, at least for now.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission called out Facebook Marketplace for allowing many recalled and banned items for sale.
If you are confused by Facebook Analytics, here is a great guide.
Instagram See the Facebook/Meta topic above for some things that also affect Instagram.
All videos under 15 minutes that you add to Instagram will now be Reels, as Meta chases TikTok’s appeal. They are taking a risk, as many users are unhappy with recent changes and tests [Washington Post; soft paywall], so much so that IG is already reversing some of the changes.
Customers can pay you through Instagram chat now. “The ability to pay for products in chat means that businesses can more easily convert curious shoppers’ questions and concerns into purchases and allows for a more personalized experience where businesses could give direct recommendations.”
LinkedIn Some tips on using LinkedIn for posts and building your brand.
Anyone concerned about their privacy on LinkedIn can change important privacy settings, such as the one that lets you check out profiles anonymously {Washington Post; soft paywall].  Pinterest  Like many other sites, Pinterest’s ad growth has slowed substantially.
Snapchat Snapchat is now available on desktop, although only Snapchat+ subscribers can access it at this time.
Twitter Make sure you are using Twitter Analytics to track engagement with your tweets.
Good news - you can now untag or “unmention” yourself from threads and conversations you no longer want to follow.
YouTube YouTube joins the “shoppable content” club by allowing people to buy on a YouTube channel instead of being directed elsewhere. This is currently only available for creators in the US, Brazil and India.
ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS (minus social media)
Amazon Amazon beat revenue expectations in the second quarter, with 7% growth year over year. However, “Amazon’s core e-commerce business continues to suffer as online sales are no longer flourishing like they were at the height of the Covid-19 shutdown. The company’s online stores segment declined 4% year over year. Physical store sales continued to rebound from the year-ago period, growing 12%.”
Amazon is reportedly planning a second Prime day this year, in October [Insider; paywall]. “Internally, the Prime Early Access Sale is described as a "high velocity" sales event to "celebrate Prime members' loyalty by giving them early access to exclusive high caliber-T5 quality deals when Prime members least expect it."
eBay eBay is introducing a new Authenticity Guarantee for fine jewellery (over $500), and they are raising all jewellery fees to pay for it. Name brands will not be included at first.
An eBay forum moderator admitted that “sales as a whole have decreased a little”, nearly a week before eBay released its second quarter results. The second-quarter results showed an 18% drop in sales, 12% drop in active buyers, and 9% drop in revenue, which seems like more than a little. Analysis shows that eBay has lost almost all of the pandemic bump, unlike Etsy.
Shopify Email and marketing service Klaviyo is now more deeply connected [paywall; Insider] with Shopify, with the latter now investing $100 million in the former. “Klaviyo aggregates purchase data from Shopify and from customers' interactions with online stores' help desks, emails, and text messages. Using a combination of marketers' expertise and machine learning, it helps brands find the right mix of customers, products, and offers.”
Shopify’s second quarter results were below expectations for the second time in a row, and they don’t expect the rest of the year to improve. The day before, they laid of about 10% of their staff, due to Shopify having expected a continuation of the pandemic’s ecommerce boom.
The company still intends to expand its fulfillment network, and not just in North America.
Links within a site help with SEO, and there are several ways to add extra ones on Shopify.
All Other Marketplaces Bonanza is introducing a 25 cent transaction fee at the end of August; it applies to completed sales only.
All Other Website Builders Squarespace has a new web design tool called Fluid Engine. It’s only available for Version 7.1, however.
Shipping FedEx is cutting back on some Sunday delivery in the United States as of August 15th, but 80% of the country will still have coverage.
It is still not clear how USPS cancelling their discounted postage program will affect label providers such as Stamps.com, Shippo and Pitney Bowes, but Amazon and eBay have confirmed their discounted rates are not affected.
USPS has released its rate hikes for the upcoming end of year rush (October 2 to January 22) but they still need to be approved.
(CONTENT) MARKETING (includes blogging, emails, and strategies)
Coming up with ideas for your blog or other posts can be as easy as just looking around - at your customer’s questions, what your competition does, and what other people are saying.
A successful email focusses on persuasion rather than selling - you need the reader to click on the email before you can even get them to buy.
ONLINE ADVERTISING (NOT SOCIAL MEDIA OR ECOMMERCE SITES)
Confused about Google’s Performance Max ad campaigns? Here’s how to set them up.
Google’s plan to phase out use of cookies with Chrome has now been delayed until 2024 (previously they planned this for 2023).
Alphabet and LinkedIn both reported an increase in ad revenue for the second quarter, while Microsoft dropped.
STATS, DATA, TRACKING
Catch up on some of the basic things that are different about Google Analytics 4.
BUSINESS & CONSUMER TRENDS, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
Want to know how different age groups shop? HubSpot has a good report on that [warning: fairly long article with lots of graphs and stats], although their age categories are not the commonly-accepted ones (I am not a baby boomer LOL). Gen Z does the most with video while the other age groups shop the most on Facebook.
If you sell to teenagers (age 13 to 17) or their parents, you will want to know how they shop, consume social media, and use technology. YouTube comes out on top of the social media list, while Facebook is falling behind.
In the latest edition of the never-ending series “You are acting like an old person”, I just learned that using punctuation at the end of a text or short Message could make your post seem passive-aggressive, as periods in particular are seen as very serious by some younger people. [text and audio] “Researchers asked undergraduates to evaluate a text exchange that included an innocent question and the answer "Yup." Some saw "Yup" with a period and some saw the word without." And we found consistently through many experiments that 'Yup' with a period resulted in responses that were more negative. So people thought 'Yup' with a period was less friendly, less sincere, and so on." This is something that anyone communicating with customers, writing ads etc. should be aware of, if you don’t want to come across as curt and unpleasant in short messages. Oh, ellipses and exclamation points also might be sending a message you didn’t intend.
I love most of the customer service articles that Help Scout posts, and this one is no different: examples of bad and good customer service emails, with an explanation of what makes the good ones better. Even if your customers won’t experience these specific issues (mostly about app use), there is a lot to learn here about how to strike the right tone.
This article is more for larger companies that have a separate customer service department, but it is a good reminder that we can all learn from what our customers tell us in reviews, complaints and questions. Buyer comments are wonderful resources for new marketing ideas, new products, and making your own materials - from descriptions to printed instructions - more clear.

Unveiling the Power Duo: Python and Django Revolutionize E-commerce Marketplace Development
Tumblr media
In today’s rapidly transforming world of eCommerce, businesses are constantly looking for robust, scalable and efficient solutions to stay ahead of the competition. And the power duo: Python and Django is revolutionizing the ecommerce marketplace development as they offer features such as ease of use, flexibility and scalability. All the popular websites– Google, Facebook, Reddit, Quora, and Instagram are built on Python and Django. These two languages are becoming go-to options amongst developers and businesses alike.
Tumblr media
Why Python?
Python is a well-known language for its readability and simplicity. Since its advent, it has become a popular choice for professional developers for its clean and straightforward approach of writing codes and maintaining them effectively.
Easy to maintain- One of the many benefits of utilizing Python for your project is that it is easy to learn and easy to maintain. You can manage and modify the readable code anytime you need, and as per the ecommerce site demands. It also allows quick and easy to understand troubleshooting steps that allows a developer to concentrate more on other parts, rather than handling the errors frequently.
Quick development process- Since it is easy to manage, the development process gets faster and more efficient. Python also comes with an array of useful libraries, modules, and packages that helps at every stage of marketplace development. You can also reuse Python codes for other projects, which definitely saves time and efforts of programmers.
Another significant advantage of utilizing Python in your project is any new developer can resume the coding from wherever the previous team left. So if you are considering giving your project to a new marketplace development company, it becomes the best option.
Cross platform app development- While choosing a language for the development process, a programmer looks for cross-platform compatibility first. Python is compatible with almost every system– Windows, Linux, Mac etc–which makes it an easy choice for varied types of ecommerce development projects. So whether you want to build a compact website store or a comprehensive online marketplace with a huge range of features, there is no better option for you than Python and Django.
Ideal for large marketplaces- Many tech giant companies rely on Python for creating and maintaining codes to enhance their ecommerce websites. With Python, the size of your store doesn’t matter, it plays an integral role in building larger marketplaces also. Examples are Netflix, Google and Mozilla, built strongly on Python and Django, are running successfully worldwide. These companies require a large volume of data and metrics to handle such a huge load and traffic coming on their websites, and the power duo- Python and Django are efficiently handling it. This is the proof of the ability of these programming languages that they can manage any number of orders and services effortlessly.
Tumblr media
Why Django?
Django is an advanced Python web framework which is introduced to allow developers to build scalable web applications efficiently. It works on the “batteries-included” approach where there are a variety of built-in features available to streamline the development process, making the work of a developer easier.
Active and supportive communities- Django is an open source library with active and supportive communities so whenever the developer is stuck or facing trouble with any code, help is just one click away! Both Python and Django have active community supporters that can be leveraged to improve your next project design.
Easy for novices- Django is easy for novice developers to read and understand. This basically allows any developer to take on your project and continue to process with very little effort and learning.
High performance- Large ecommerce marketplaces like Netflix, or Amazon, bring a lot of orders and traffic to the website. There is a huge amount of incoming data for the website code to process. And it should be done really quickly to not cause any inconvenience or load to the website. Django and Python handle all of this load with ease. You can input source data and let it process one at a time effortlessly. Apart from this, Django is constantly updated with performance improvement softwares.
Reliable and easy to maintain- While building any ecommerce website, the quality of the written code is important. Django is one of the most reliable languages available. It receives consistent updates while also offering an easy to understand troubleshooting and testing feature. This means, your developer can focus on enhancing your website by adding new features rather than fixing bugs all of the time.
Cross-platform development- With the power duo—Python and Django at your disposal–you can run your website codes on almost any platform or database. You can build such applications that run on Mac, Windows, Linux or any other available platform. Both these languages are compatible with all of the major programming databases.
Success stories in real world
Many popular and high in demand ecommerce platforms have successfully utilized the power of Python and Django to build and scale their operations.
Instagram- Using Django’s ability to scale and handle heavy traffic seamlessly, Instagram is witnessing millions of users scrolling and having no troubles or facing any bugs at client’s end.
Pinterest- Another significant example, Pinterest, relies on Django for its ability to manage its huge amount of incoming data and user interactions.
Disqus- A very popular commenting platform harnesses the Django language to handle millions of comments and interactions on a daily basis.
Conclusion
The combination of Python and Django offers a comprehensive solution for ecommerce marketplace development. Features like scalability, cross-platform development, active community support and ease to use makes them an ideal choice for businesses. As the world of ecommerce evolves, Python and Django are sure to remain at the forefront, driving growth in the industry. How to Find the Cheapest Ecommerce Platform for Startups
Tumblr media
Starting an online business is an exciting journey, but it often comes with tight budgets and the need for cost-effective solutions. One of the biggest decisions you'll face is choosing the right ecommerce platform that won't break the bank. In this guide, we'll walk you through how to find the cheapest ecommerce platform for startups, ensuring you get the best value for your investment.
Understand Your Business Needs
Before diving into the specifics of pricing, it's essential to understand your business needs. Consider the following questions:
How many products do you plan to sell?
Do you need advanced features like SEO tools, email marketing, or inventory management?
Are you looking for a customizable design, or will a basic template suffice?
By answering these questions, you can narrow down your options and avoid paying for features you don't need.
Compare Pricing Plans
Once you have a clear understanding of your requirements, start comparing the pricing plans of various ecommerce platforms. Look for platforms that offer tiered pricing, allowing you to scale as your business grows. Here are some popular options to consider:
Shopify: Known for its user-friendly interface, Shopify offers plans starting at $29 per month. While not the cheapest, it includes essential features for startups.
BigCommerce: Another robust option, BigCommerce's pricing starts at $29.95 per month. It provides a wide range of tools that can benefit growing businesses.
Wix: With plans starting as low as $23 per month, Wix is a budget-friendly option for startups, especially those with simpler needs.
WooCommerce: A free WordPress plugin, WooCommerce is a great choice if you already have a WordPress site. However, you’ll need to budget for hosting and any additional plugins you might need.
Look for Free Trials and Discounts
Many ecommerce platforms offer free trials or introductory discounts. These can be an excellent way to test the platform’s capabilities without committing to a full subscription. Shopify, for instance, offers a 14-day free trial, which can be extended during promotional periods.
Consider Transaction Fees
While monthly subscription costs are a significant factor, don’t overlook transaction fees. These can add up quickly, especially if your sales volume increases. For example, Shopify charges transaction fees ranging from 2.4% to 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction unless you use Shopify Payments. Compare these fees across platforms to find the cheapest ecommerce platform for startups in terms of overall cost.
Evaluate Included Features
A platform might seem cheap initially, but if it lacks essential features, you may end up spending more on third-party integrations. Look for platforms that offer:
SEO Tools: Essential for driving organic traffic to your store.
Marketing Integrations: Email marketing tools, social media integrations, etc.
Customer Support: Reliable support can save you time and money when issues arise.
Check Scalability Options
As your startup grows, your ecommerce needs will evolve. Choose a platform that can scale with you. For example, Shopify and BigCommerce both offer higher-tier plans with advanced features that can support larger stores.
Read User Reviews
User reviews can provide valuable insights into the real-world performance and cost-effectiveness of ecommerce platforms. Websites like G2, Capterra, and Trustpilot offer detailed reviews and ratings from other startup owners. Pay attention to comments about pricing transparency, ease of use, and customer support.
Conclusion
Choosing the cheapest ecommerce platform for startups involves more than just looking at the monthly subscription cost. By understanding your business needs, comparing pricing plans, considering transaction fees, evaluating included features, and checking scalability options, you can find a platform that offers the best value for your startup.
At ShopperBuild, we understand the challenges startups face and are dedicated to helping you find the most cost-effective solutions for your ecommerce needs.
