Benjamin McKinnon — 55 — Owner — Ballycastle Bats
the good: decisive, creative, humorous the bad: lazy, dogmatic, moody
Hot off the Presses
“I’m sorry, Benjamin who?” - Elliot Adler (Head Manager)
“Ignore Elliot. I’ll admit that McKinnon’s got a pretty hands-off approach to the team, but they’re here when we need them and they’ve not sunk this ship so far. I don’t think I have to remind anyone that we’ve won the second highest number of cups in the league, do I?” - Sheridan Ryan (Assistant Manager)
Skeleton
Benjamin McKinnon has been the proud owner of the Ballycastle Bats for ten years. For the first seven, they considered it a great honor to own a quidditch team and encouraged a number of trades that changed Ballycastle for the better. Just as they were beginning to see real progress from their projects, however, a personal tragedy derailed the course of their life. (This event is up to the player).
Ever since the incident, Benjamin’s had a much different approach to owning the team. They’ve missed a considerable number of games and they often only show up to the office to sign necessary checks and make administrative decisions. It’s fortunate that their first seven years of experience were positive, because their sudden attitude change wouldn’t be tolerated otherwise.
Benjamin McKinnon is the definition of a likable asshole. Any of their faults are outweighed by the sheer force of their charisma. People either want to be them or be their best friend.
They secretly despise the Ballycastle mascot, Barny the Fruitbat.

Film Final Evaluation - Change On Screen
When approaching this project i was very excited as not only is it a subject i’m interested in , and never had the opportunity to work with moving image but post production is an area where both my uncle and my step dad hold senior roles in. My step dad (Mathew Felstead) being an award winning editor currently resident at Big Buoy (Big Chop) and my uncle being the Head of Production at this same studio (Barny Wright). And as if i didn't have enough reason to be optimistic already it was also an industry Ana had previously suggested id find my feet in as its one that my skill sets suit to very well. When looking at the brief i was looking more forward to the post production section of the course but i was still looking very forward to learning ways to frame shots and learn more about the production of a film.
When coming to the idea creation i think its fair to say i was catalyst in this, giving many ideas and giving my group films they could watch to understand the way i image our film to turn out, one of which being ‘Baby Driver’. We decided on a film that directly compared the lives of a person of privilege (being female) and a person not of privilege (being male) but despite a lot of differences, their is one commonality in that regardless of financial or social class, is that everyone has the potential to be abused. Although my group didn’t contribute much to the controlling idea they did help with the initial story board.
When Looking for inspiration for this film we looked at Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Romeo + Juliet’ and Edgar Wright’s ‘Baby Driver’. We focused on the way Baz Luhrman worked with wide angles and zooming into details in the frame as well as Edgar Wright’s incredible choreography to music. Although we didn’t go out to emulate these styles completely we did use them as reference in both production and post production when thinking about the lighting of our film and the editing to music.
When it came to the production we casted one of my friends for the male role and one of Abi’s (Group Member) friend as the female part, however when approaching the filming days my friend had exams the following week and was unable to spare the time so i had to take his place as an actor in this short film. Other then this and a member of our group being removed from the course we ha a very smooth creation process only limited by a lack of time and myself being over 2hours travel from either filming location. I found myself contributing in the idea creation, writing, acting, directing and filming as well as taking full responsibility over all post production. I felt that this wasn't due to any incompetence of my group at all but mainly because i found a passion for what i was doing an naturally used my initiative at every opportunity.
This process had dictated the path i wish to take on my artistic route. I found a new passion for moving image over this period and i’m very proud of the first film i had ever made. It was steep learning curb but one which i enjoyed regardless of the troubles i had and i feel i’ve emerged from this project very motivated which is something i had lacked pursuing graphic design.
Overall my film was received well although feedback we received was that we should have spent more time showing the payoff , which having finished the project i look back on agreeing with. However the feedback i got personally from Seb was that he was very impressed that i , having started this process never working with moving image in any sense and, had come out with a film as good as i did.  I’m very proud of the work i did and i’m looking very forward to continuing working with moving image throughout my artistic journey.
