Like a caterpillar breaking free of its cocoon as a moth, The Universe of Mortal Kombat is reborn!
Mortal Kombat: Metamorphosis is a very, VERY loose reimagining of the first three Mortal Kombat games.
Origins, personalities and stories have been reimagined and changed. But many of the things that you remember and love stay the same, because why fix something if it ain't broke.
The Mortal Kombat Tournament-
The Realms have coexisted with one another for eons, but only the people of Earthrealm are unaware of the others' existence. This is because Raiden, the God of Thunder and Protector of Earthrealm, has been wary of other realms for the past few thousand years ever since Shao Kahn killed his father and became Emperor of Outworld.
The Emperor's reign has been marked by his conquest of Outworld and his relentless pursuit power. Orderrealm gladly supports Shao Kahn rules with a cruel, iron fist. While Chaosrealm keeps to itself, it has done nothing to earn Raiden's faith.
So to keep Earthrealm safe, Raiden ordered that all knowledge of the other realms be destroyed and that the portals be heavily guarded by members of the Lin Kuei. Though tense, Earthrealm has remained safe.
But its safety has been threatened after an anonymous source sends Raiden a letter revealing Shao Khan's plans to invade Earthrealm and merge it with Outworld. Wasting no time, Raiden prepares his realm for war. But things change Shang Tsung, the most formidable sorcerer in Outworld and the Emperor's trusted advisor, seeks an audience with the Thunder God. Raiden initially refuses but with some convincing from his brother and fellow god, Fuijn, he reluctantly goes to meet with the Sorcerer.
There, Shang Tsung gives the Thunder God an alternative to Shao Khan's upcoming invasion. Instead of immediately invading Earthrealm, Outworld will organize a tournament, with 13 of their champions challenging 13 Earthrealm fighters. The winning Realm will decide whether to conquer the losing Realm or spare it.
Raiden knows that the Sorcerer has something up his sleeve but he isn't in the position to deny his offer…
The Rebellion against Shao Kahn's Rule-
For thousands of years, ever since Shao stole the throne from his father, Outworld has suffered. Families torn apart and sent off to die in his wars of conquest. The others that remained are taxed heavily and those that can't pay are thrown into debtors' prison.
Neighboring realms such as Vaeternus and Zaterra were brutally conquered by Shao Khan. Their traditions, culture and even people were nearly destroyed and replaced with Outworld's. Everything must be under Shao Kahn's rule, or there will be blood. But what he failed to realize is that you can only beat down your people so many times before they fight back.
Though they're definitely an unlikely pairing, Nitara and Li Mei fight to avenge their people and tear down Shao Kahn's tyrannical rule. At first, the rebellion was small, but over the past decade, their numbers have grown, and their message, once whispers, are now screams.
Author's Plans/Notes-
Mortal Kombat: Metamorphosis will be an episodic/chapter based series. Each chapter will focus on a particular character. The contents of the chapters will usually depend on how far I think the story is progressing.
For example; the first three chapters will be about Raiden, Liu Kang and Kung Lao but will mostly just focus on setting up and getting the plot moving along. While later chapters may not be so important to the plot but will give context, motives and develop the characters.
Also characters will not be just limited to one chapter. Each character will have multiple chapters and unlike NRS's chapters, the character that the chapter is focused on will not be invincible.
Another example would be a chapter that is about Li Mei and her goal to destroy one of Shao Khan's military posts. Of course she'll win a couple of her fights but then she'll get bested and need to flee, failing the mission.
I know this is probably going to sound unsatisfying at first but Li Mei will always get a second chance to redeem herself or achieve her goal, and this goes for all of the characters.
Also, I just wanted to get it out in the open now that I do favor some characters over others. And that will ultimately give those favored characters more chapters than the ones I don't really care about. But I will assure you that I will try to be respectful to these characters and give them the minimum of three chapters.
Another thing, there's probably going to be a change that I made that you're probably not going to agree with, and that's okay baby.
But what we're not going to do is disrespect me because of a change you don't like. It's literally a whole new universe for Mortal Kombat, of course a whole bunch of stuff is going to be different. That's probably the main reason you're interested in reading it.
But I do encourage you to let me know if a change I made is offensive or ignorant.
Final Thing! Stories that really have nothing to do with the Mortal Kombat Tournament and The Rebellion will just be their own thing.
I think most will just be one regular chapter in length but the longer ones will have at least 3-6 chapters.
These will include three prequel-ish stories:
Black Ice
"Sub Zero (Bi-Han) and Cyrax travel into the Netherrealm on orders from Lord Raiden. Their mission is to gather Intel on Quan Chi, The Arch-Sorcerer of Shinnok.
But their mission takes an unexpected turn that will change not only Bi-Han's life, but the fate of his clan forever."
The Sacrifice
"As the armies of Outworld close in on Edenia, Queen Sindel must make a heartbreaking decision to save her kingdom and people."
Ashes of Sun Do
"Only a girl, Li Mei must use the teachings of Master Bo' Rai Cho to defend her village from Shao Kahn's tax collectors."

Mortal Kombat: The Series - a rough outline
Since recent Mortal Kombat stories (both the adaptations and the actual story modes within the games themselves) have been mixed at best, I figure why not detail how I would do a more modern adaptation of the franchise.
I practically have been adapting the franchise for my AU, but this post will be for a more faithful adaptation that adapts the original canon as best as it can.
First and foremost, I would indeed make this a series. MK can still work as a film franchise, but I do feel a series, whether animated or live-action, can explore the world-building and character development far better than a movie could.
The series would run for at least 6-7 seasons with the major games being adapted in some kind of capacity.
Without further ado, here's a rough outline of each season...
Season 1 - The tournament (Old MK1)
The series begins with five episodes detailing the origins of certain groups of characters leading up to the tournament, similar to MK Legacy.
These groups of characters are...
- Liu Kang and Kung Lao
- Johnny Cage
- Sonya Blade, Jax and Kano
- Kitana and Mileena
- Scorpion and Sub-Zero
Episode 6 is the arrival on the island, the proper introduction of Shang Tsung, hints of Goro and Reptile, a showcase of what the characters can do before the big tournament, and the seeds of certain relationships being planted, like Liu Kang x Kitana and Johnny x Sonya.
The tournament begins in episode 7 and takes up about half of the season (6 episodes). It culminates with Liu Kang killing Goro and besting Shang Tsung. The season ends on a cliffhanger with a tease of Shao Kahn.
I honestly feel that 12 episodes is the right amount to establish the main characters without things dragging on too much. With that being said, each of the following seasons are longer due to the constantly growing number of characters.
Season 2 - Into Outworld (MK2)
After Liu Kang's victory in the first tournament, the forces of Outworld, led by Baraka, massacre the Temple of Light, which motivates Liu Kang and his allies into agreeing to fight in another tournament. This time, in Outworld.
This is where we start to see the previously established relationships grow with Johnny and Sonya starting to have feelings for each other, and Liu Kang learning about why Kitana has such an interest in him.
We don't do dedicated episodes for certain characters anymore. They still get told, but in flashbacks. Why? Because much like what The4thSnake said when approaching how he would adapt MK, setting up your main cast is integral enough for the first season that it can work that way, but further characters and follow-ups can't hold the plot advancement back too much once the series has already gotten going.
Kitana ends up killing Mileena, finally allowing herself to align with the Earthrealm heroes. The climax is Liu Kang and Kung Lao vs. Shao Kahn. Why both Liu Kang and Kung Lao? As a way to show just how strong Shao is to the point where the two monks have to combine their strength to take him down.
Shao is left wounded, and the heroes return to Earthrealm with Kitana joining their side. Again, the season ends on a cliffhanger with Shang Tsung and Quan Chi healing Shao as they begin to enact their plan to resurrect Sindel on Earthrealm.
Season 3 - The invasion (MK3)
Shao Kahn resurrects Sindel on Earthrealm, which allows it to merge with Outworld. With Raiden losing his powers as a result of the merger, it's up to Liu Kang to lead the rebellion against Shao and his forces to save Earthrealm one more time.
While all of this is going on, we also have Sub-Zero rebelling against the Cyber Lin Kuei, who set out to capture him alive.
Eventually, the season culminates with Liu Kang facing Shao Kahn on his own after Kung Lao gets injured by the emperor. Liu Kang defeats Shao, who is then killed by the Elder Gods when they arrive shortly after. Sindel is restored to good, and Kitana says goodbye to Liu Kang as she wishes to get back what she lost all of those years.
The season also ends with Johnny and Sonya getting engaged.
Season 4 - Netherrealm war (MK4)
This season potentially opens with a multi-parter based on Mythologies: Sub-Zero where we see the history that Scorpion and Sub-Zero have with Quan Chi and Shinnok. In fact, this season is likely going to be mostly centered around them.
Liu Kang kinda steps down from the focus, but he still gets a huge role in the season with him trying to save Kitana and Edenia. Johnny and Sonya tie the knot sometime between seasons, and Cassie is born by then. The three main heroes lead the forces of Earthrealm against Shinnok during the Netherrealm war.
Eventually, Shinnok is defeated and Quan Chi escapes into a lost tomb where he discovers the ancient undead army of the Dragon King, which no doubt leads to the next season.
Season 5 - Next generation (MKX + Deadly Alliance)
The season takes place about 20 years after the previous one. Raiden has become an Elder God with Fujin replacing him as Earthrealm's protector. Johnny and Sonya as well as other characters like Jax, Kung Lao and Kenshi are much older. However, Liu Kang is still youthful due to his role as champion of Mortal Kombat. He still longs for the day he can get with Kitana, which no doubt will have a great payoff.
The heroes have been training the new generation of fighters like Cassie, Takeda and Kung Jin so that they can defend Earthrealm through Mortal Kombat sometime in the future. While all of this is going on, Quan Chi forms an alliance with Shang Tsung as they plan on resurrecting the Dragon King's army so that they can conquer the realms.
Throughout the season, we also follow side plots with Nitara, Kotal Kahn and his rise to power, Orderrealm vs. Chaosrealm, etc.
The season ends with the Kombat Kids losing to both Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, and being taken prisoners as Onaga makes his return to reclaim his army.
Season 6 - The Dragon King (Deception)
Liu Kang, Sonya and Johnny learn of the Kombat Kids being captured, so they decide to come out of retirement to save them. Liu Kang also reunites with Kitana, who agrees to help the Earthrealm heroes face Onaga and the Deadly Alliance, who are hellbent on reviving The One Being.
At some point, the old heroes face the Kombat Kids, who are being controlled by Onaga. Eventually, they are restored. We also wrap up the rivalry that Liu Kang has with Shang Tsung as well as the one that Scorpion and Sub-Zero have with Quan Chi, which result in the sorcerers getting killed.
The climax is Liu Kang vs. Onaga. Liu Kang finally becomes the Fire God after he and Kitana are mortally wounded, and manages to destroy The Dragon King. Kitana becomes a goddess and finally gets to be with Liu Kang as they become the protectors of the realms (not just Earthrealm, but also Outworld and Edenia).
Bonus season - Timelines kollide (MK11 + Armageddon)
The series officially wraps in Season 6, but there can indeed be a bonus season.
Instead of time travel, it's a multiverse season that brings in different versions of the characters from prior incarnations of the franchise (such as the films) and even the AU I was working on as they team up to thwart a new threat. I thought of having said threat be Titan Shang Tsung, or at least a version of Shang Tsung that is all-powerful (especially since I'm not a fan of Titans in MK).
And...that's very much it. We'd get as faithful of an adaptation as it's possible while still improving on certain shortcomings from the source material. MK gets to be told properly, for once. Plus, we'd get a genuinely good Martial Arts show that delivers on what makes MK so great and iconic.
That's all for now.

Mortal Kombat Armageddon All-Stars is over
I should have said it last year. But yeah. It’s over and canceled.
One reason includes College has taken over me and I have a ton of work to do. That’s life and now I’m nearly 24, I couldn’t bear myself to continue that monstrosity I’ve started in high school. Look at the earlier episodes, my teenage self doesn’t know how to write a story and it has so many inconsistencies that are planned to rewritten in the future. With so many characters, it’s super overwhelming to get every pre-11 Kombatnt in one slide.
Another reason is I’ve moved on to other interests. I’ve cared so less about Mortal Kombat since 11 is nearing its zenith. I’ve watched MK1 videos but nothing is pulling me back. Not helping much is the game itself is a waste of money.
Third reason is I have little time to work on PowerPoint stories. Mass burnout. No longer interested in working on it. My ban from the Crystal Story server just lessens to motivation of me making more PowerPoint stories. Not helped by said college and I’m working on a game.
The next update would have been a double-episode drop with Episode 32B featuring the challenge fillin up loose ends of this lousy plot. The challenge is race up to the cliff to steal an egg from the Mechacrow Shang Tsung owns and then race back down to avoid getting vaporized by it. Chameleon was eliminated due to a rule they added.
Episode 35, a challenge where they cooperate to create the best monster and compete with others to destroy others. Kung Lao or someone irrelevant would have been eliminated.
I’m sorry to announce these news and I would love to finish the whole thing because I have real ideas for future episodes. But life and burnouts caught up to me and I have no more time.
I’m sorry.
I hope you can check out my stuff in the future despite broken promises…

Lin Kuei: ORIGINS / ARCHITECTURE
RELIGION <> ORIGINS / ARCHITECTURE <> FOOD <> FOR THE LIN KUEI <> ART <> CRYOMANCERS <> LIN KUEI SOCIETY <> MONEY & MATERIAL GOODS
The continuation of the morgianesffs-blog’s list of questions about Lin Kuei. For the formalities, the original questions:
If you had to match the Lin Kuei with a dynasty,  what one would it be? (I know the 2021 movie has the opening in the Ming dynasty, so the Lin Kuei is at least that old,  but given that movie Bi Han hasn't aged in 400 years, and was taken is a child,  its probably much older) (and also know the game probably cherry picked random Chinese things it liked).
AND
In the spirit of potential future writing,  I'm trying to find a building that  would make a good substitution for Lin Kuei temple.
I've tried looking up ancient Chinese military barracks/forts, and have found some stuff,  but is all exterior.  Anyone know of any locations (or several I can cobble together) that would make good inspiration fodder?
By no means I’m familiar enough with Chinese history to pick any dynasty but sources are consistent in this regard - Lin Kuei is an old organisation. How old however varies from one source to another. So we have:
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero’s Prime Guide:
Somewhere in the northern most parts of Asia, there exists a secret clan of assassins and thieves known as the Lin Kuei. This group has existed for centuries and thrives on the evil intention of the people who pay for their services.
Mortal Kombat 11’s intro:
Sub-Zero: Lin Kuei style predates Shaolin.
Kung Lao: But you still cannot beat us, Grandmaster.
Sub-Zero: That is a spurious claim, Kung Lao.
The quick research on wikipedia gives me this: Shaolin Temple was built around 495 and the Shaolin monks began to create fighting systems of their own around 581–618. If we based the calculation on real dates, the Lin Kuei could be even 1500+ years old.
Mortal Kombat book by Jeff Rovin (1995):
He tingled with pride – and burned with fresh hatred for Yong Park – as he thought of the rich history of the breed to which he belonged. Formed in A.D. 1200, the ninjitsu were entrusted with the protection of the shoguns in ancient Japan. The Lin Kuei was a breed of ninja that moved from Japan to China in 1310.
(note: this quote is contrary to generally accepted MK lore that states ninjutsu was brought to Japan by Takeda, the rogue Lin Kuei member. Still, even in this “timeline” the Lin Kuei clan would be at least 700 years old)
Mortal Kombat Conquest TV, Episode 3: Cold Reality
[Shang Tsung] A group of mortals.
[Vorpax] Mortals.
[Shang Tsung] Assassins.
[Vorpax] Who are they, Shang?
[Shang Tsung]: The Lin Kuei, an ancient sect. Their training is in deepest secret as is their code. They are silent, swift and always lethal.
Note: The serial takes place in Great Kung Lao’s times, something around 400-600 years ago and Lin Kuei is already described as “ancient”.
Mortal Kombat Comics “Kitana and Mileena” retold the fall of Edenia, in which Lin Kuei took part.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kitana is 10.000 years old at present time and it is usually assumed she was a young child when Edenia fell. The comics didn’t specify the time frame of this event but Lin Kuei were already a formalized group with cryomancer in the ranks. It is possible that Lin Kuei could be, if not ten then at least a few thousand years old.
The mentioned sources are independent stories that can be seen as unique timelines but all make Lin Kuei from a few centuries to even a few thousands years old which is a pretty long existence. This in turn makes Lin Kuei one of the oldest and continuously existing factions we know about.
Sadly, there is little to none solid information about how and by whom the clan was formed and in what socio-economic and political context. Yet, considering how cryomancers are the prominent group and how their (ancient) powers are kept in high regard, some part of the clan were in fact fugitives from Outworld and their origin likely influenced the process of creating clan.
I used to see the existence of the clan as a sort of deal between native Earthrealmians and immigrants from the other realms, especially concerning cryomancers. As in, clan getting warriors with special powers for smuggling the runaways to Earth and helping them to adapt into new culture and environment. However now, I lean more into the theory that Lin Kuei was a union between minor families and tribes (immigrants and outcast) that slowly changed into nation-like formation thanks to which they could maintain their independence and neutrality in the face of interdimensional and internal earthly conflicts while working solely for the clan’s benefit. From various sources we know that Lin Kuei has and accepts family units (the genealogical line of Sub-Zero brothers or Grandmaster and Sektor’s blood ties). As far as I know Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition is the only one source that has a mention of “houses” that could refer to certain families, including cryomancers / Sub-Zero:
Tumblr media
The blood ties and their importance in itself are a very interesting aspect considering how friendship alone was seen as a weakness, as was stated by the Conquest TV series.
Once again, the sources did not give a strict time frame nor background, but if Lin Kuei was truly an ancient, few thousand years old organisation, their existence may predate the earliest Chinese dynasty and kept their cultural differentiation for ages. The same could happen, if Lin Kuei was just a few hundred years old, the clan still may not be directly influenced by and/or connected to Chinese culture, thus the architecture may not have a direct reference to a specific dynasty. Or it could be a reverse process, the Chinese military and/or artistic culture could be influenced by Lin Kuei. It is hard to tell, since the sources gave little insight into cultural connection between various factions but I would like point out that Asia and Outworld share a lot similarities when it comes to architecture and art (especially dragon image?) which raises a question what the cultural exchange looked like before realms were separated by Sindel’s magic to spare Earthrealm from ill fate of Edenia and in result creating Mortal Kombat Tournament. There is also a possibility that Lin Kuei was influenced by their Outworld origins, which seems still living memory when it comes to cryomancers and their ties to “Arctika” that may not refer to Earthrealm region per se, but to some cryomancer lost homeland or cultural heritage. Lin Kuei knew and used secret passages to Outworld and had also extensive knowledge about the other realm so they could, in theory, be a carrier of influences, cultural or material exchange between Earthrealm and Outworld. Another thing to think about is that Lin Kuei doesn’t mind adapting an already existing place for their own use, as was seen in Mortal Kombat Armageddon in which their Temple was actually once the Temple of Delia (the great sorceress & wife of god Argus). Most likely the building was chosen for pragmatic reasons rather than any artistic sense or admiring different cultures.
As for architecture alone and possible real-life references, I wonder, were Lin Kuei truly a Chinese clan, as older sources liked to refer to them. This feeling is supported by the lack of such references in the current timeline!Sub-Zero's BIOs and how Lin Kuei cryomancers seem to care just for their lost heritage (the mentioned ties to Arctika seen in games, including MK11 cosmetics) than for any ties to human governments or nationality. Mythologies also suggest that Lin Kuei’s Temple was “somewhere in the northern most parts of Asia” which sounds more like Siberia than territory of China. Of course, Lin Kuei could change place of living several times through the long period of history or even have more than one place existing at the same time, which is true for the modern era (Mortal Kombat X comics). Wherever Lin Kuei Temple truly is, the clan is living high in mountains or in general, a naturally hard-to-reach place and rather cold climate.
Interestingly, Mortal Kombat wikipedia states that Lin Kuei means “Forest Demon” or Forest Chief, so who knows, they could change their residence - environment - over the years until they reached the abandoned Temple of Delia - thus the more Asian or Outworld or mixed styles of both architecture seen in current sources (Mortal Kombat X and 11, Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms).
Tumblr media
Sadly, I do not have any specific real-life buildings to offer, but I personally think it is worth checking Asian cliff buildings through a google search. As for references from sources, the gallery on Lin Kuei Palace’s wiki page is a good start and here are some samples from games and animated series showing the interior:
Mortal Kombat X
Tumblr media
Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms
Tumblr media
and it is worth to check out Mortal Kombat Armageddon walkthrough “Lin Kuei Palace”
As the final note, Lin Kuei is an old organisation so the architecture does not have to be homogeneous and changeless. Still, it must be resistant to harsh conditions first and foremost. At the same time, at least in the old timeline, the clan used an ancient Temple of Dalia, so their headquarters interior could have more sacrum-like style than spartan one. Surprisingly, Lin Kuei likes detailed crafts contrasting with their brutal warrior culture. Which just shows how complex is the history and the nature of Lin Kuei.

Mortal Kombat Akademy
In between my work on the 31 Days of Original Characters challenge, I've begun to revisit my plans for the big Mortal Kombat story I'd wanted to do for awhile; Mortal Kombat Akademy. I've done a lot of character busts with backstory info and I did a sort of "season one" plots but this is something I'm not really satisfied with anymore. I'm gonna spend the new year trying to readjust and rework the overall story and characters to something more workable. Here's a few odds and ends of what I've planned so far;
Story Outline
Shaolin Monks, Lui Kang and Kung Lao, are recruited into the Mortal Kombat Akademy, the secret fighting school located on the island paradise of international crimelord, Shang Tsung. But those who step foot on the island are subjected to terrors beyond comprehension once they learn the true purpose of the school; a training ground for the soldiers of an interdimensional tyrant who conquers by use of a fighting tournaments ordained by the gods themselves. But one of the gods, Raiden, is willing to give Earth a fighting chance by training as many chosen Earthlings as he can so they may finally defeat the forces of evil in the Mortal Kombat tournament.
Kinda bare bones but for plot synopsis go, it helps me sort of make a launching pad for the ideas. Like my original idea, the story is still primarily about Lui Kang and Kung Lao going to the school and meeting/befriending the typical heroes of the Mortal Kombat world, Raiden being their mentor and Shang Tsung being the big bad to overcome.
But the story ideas I had just don’t really cut it for me now. I feel as though I was sort of putting the cart before the horse by putting so much time making elaborate details instead of snowballing one idea to make a big bright idea. I’ve made some titles for them;
Start the Semester!
Tour the Akademy!
Prepare for the First Exams!
Bond Like Your Lives Depend On It!
Learn the Fatalities!
Wills and Testaments!
Survive the Detetionrealm!
Survive the First Round of Exams!
Survive the Second Round of Exams!
Survive the Last Round of Exams!
Party Your Asses Off!
Mortal Kombat Akademy V. The DC Universe: Dawn of Pain!
To give some context to them, I had a storyarc planned; Early on, Raiden would want the Earthrealm class (the class would have Kang, Lao, Johnny, Sonya, Jax, Stryker and Nightwolf) to be friends and allies in order to survive the matches and save the world. Easier said than done when so many personalities were clashing together. And once they learn about fatalities, the class goes through some mental anguish over having to kill or be killed, Kang being the only one vowing to never kill anyone, to the disbelief of everyone else. Things start looking up once the class starts to trust and respect one another and become stronger fighters.
But Kano, on the behalf of Goro’s Class (Mileena, Kitana, Jade, Baraka, Sheeva, Skarlet, Reptile, Tanya and Kano himself) frames Sonya and Johnny for a crime, leading to Professor Quan Chi to exile them to the “Detention Realm” where his goons, Drahmin and Moloch, deal out the punishments. My idea for them that they’d be bumbling and dim so Johnny and Sonya could escape them, bonding while trying to make it to the final exams. Everyone but Kang and Lao have been defeated and since Sonya and Johnny were late, it’d all be up to them to beat Goro. Once Goro beast Lao half to death, Kang faces his fears and manages to defeat Goro without killing him, but not without making him suffer for all the pain he’s caused.
The class’ reward for passing the exams is an-all expense paid vacation to Edenia, which is basically a hellhole built to Shao Kahn’s pleasure. Here, Kang and Kitana get some alone time to romantically connect to one another during the celebratory feast hosted by Kitana and Mileena’s parents, Shao Kahn and Sindel. But really, the feast is for the Kahns to asses the threat that Raiden’s students hold to their long term plans. And finally, the DCU story is just a fun breather where I have the mid-1990s versions of their heroes (Superman with a mullet, Batman Forever styled Batman and the two Wonder Women, Artemis and Diana, for example).
And after rereading what I had for plots, I noticed how little the Lin Keui featured into the stories since I designed a lot of them for the series. Should try to fix that somehow.
Overall Art Style
As I stated in previous MKA concept art, I based the art style on the look of Steven Universe. I still intend for the project to be written fanfiction, but I do wish to have some elements of it to be drawn by myself. Not a full adaptation but maybe a full page illustration of each chapter, along with the general character/environment sketches, or like the ending credits of The Mandalorian series.
But back to the art style, I wish to change it. I can’t really go further on the style of Steven Universe if this story is going to be about such heavy violence and gore. It wouldn’t really look right, might cross over into unintentional hilarity or into the uncanny valley. I’m looking at something like the artist One, the man behind One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 whose style is really unique, fast, sketchy and frenetic, all attributes I think will work well. I also love the anime aesthetic of the 1990s so that’s definitely a goal to achieve since I’m setting the story in 1995.
Story Ideas To Keep
* Koins: My idea for an in-canon reason for the koins you win in matches (at least in Mks 9-11, IDK how far back they go) to unlock Krypt stuff will be used as a way for the students to buy things like food, clothing and resurrections due to being killed by another student’s fatalities since its primarily a learning facility instead of a battlefield. Though if you’re broke, you’re not gonna be saved. Koins, like in the games, will be given for performing a fatality and a moral choice comes up when you think “do I do good and be paid less, or do something terrible but get more chances of being resurrected if I die?”
*Profiles: I’ve got to do some rewrites for the characters. Nothing too too major since I do like a lot of what I wrote, but its more to streamline it to fit in the new direction I’m doing. Like, having Sonya, Jax and Stryker being Hall Monitors, I don’t think something like that is gonna be part of my story since I’m trying to take it a tad more seriously. The idea of Detention Realm and having Dharmin and Moloch as lovable henchmen is still canon, as far as I’m concerned. Think the two mice henchmen from the film “Flushed Away”. And on a final note, the newly retconned origin for Sindel...that shit isn’t gonna be part of my story.
Overall, whatever backstories that’ll be changed will likely be on a case by case basis. No telling who or what will be changed right now, but I’ve now thought of some parts to start with.
Diversity and Inclusion
This one is probably gonna be one of the hardest to accomplish since I really want to make the series really diverse with body types, genders and sexuality, race, neurodiversity, that type of subject matter. Inclusion is really important to me, and I’m scared how I might screw it up like how Disney, JK Rowling, SNL, Simpsons, Big Mouth, Voltron so many more screw it all up since they all serve the needs of the capitalist, neoliberal status quo over the voices of the marginalised.
And with that, brings up some more challenges. Will I make so many diverse original characters that they take time away from the canon characters? Should I make more canon MK characters differently diverse?
I'm also planning on having the characters display prejudices and bigotries but I'm scared I'll go in too much of "Bright" territory, if you know what I mean.
Tackling Mature Content
I mean, it goes without saying that the series is going to be full of violence and gore since that’s basically in the DNA of Mortal Kombat in the first place. But there’s much more serious topics I want to try to write. Like the effects of abuse, queer rights, the above themes about diversity and inclusion, the seemingly never ending war and the ideas of the long defeat. Of course, my chapters will be marked with as clear as possible content warnings, those are important.
A Shared Universe
A month ago, I watched a video about Midway trying to recreate the success of Mortal Kombat into other fighting games. The video, “Remember when Midway tried to copy Mortal Kombat?” talked about three would-be franchises of Midway fighting games; Mace: The Dark Age, War Gods and Bio FREAKS. After watching the video and reading about the games, I think it’d be good for lore if they were integrated into my story. Mace and War Gods could be used as part of the backstory of the series. Like the idea of the Earthrealm Kombatants being the descendants of the characters of Mace and War Gods, maybe Raiden was involved with the later, I’m not sure. Bio FREAKS could be latter used if I go into a time travel story. Maybe a mix of the game and the story/characters of Mortal Kombat X. As for Midway’s other successful but overlooked franchise, Killer Instinct, that is probably going to be the most recurring element in the shared universe. UltraTech, the main villains of the series would be the people behind such things as Kano’s cyborg eye, the Lin Keui’s Cyber Initiative and being the rulers of Neo-Amerika in the Bio FREAKS timeline. I also wrote in the profiles of Nightwolf and Sub-Zero that the Killer Instinct universe is linked to my story (one of his divorced parents is dating one of the parents of KI’s Black Eagle and Thunder while Glacius was an alien that helped give Cryomancers their powers).
And on a side note, there is another Midway MK clone called Primal Rage, which I swear I had one of the toys based on it and saw a parody of it on an episode of Dexter’s Laboratory. Its pretty gruesome, its a bunch of savage Kaiju in a post-apocalyptic earth that resembles the stone age. Probably an alternate timeline/dimension if I use it in my series. Who knows, maybe elements of the worlds of Street Fighter and or God of War could make an appearance...
Writing the Damned Thing
Probably the absolute hardest part of this entire thing. I struggle with actually keeping attention to writing since I’m primarily a visual artist and it feels terrible to not even follow through on any idea I have and it just kinda sits and collects dust in my brain. If its sketching and rendering, I can do it. If its writing shit down, I just have executive dysfunction when it comes to it. I never know where to start writing it, how to continue writing it, how to finish it or how to put it all together cohesively.
I can’t do this without at least writing the complete first season, if I do it on a semi-regular basis, nothing is going to be done. Even like, less than a week of non-recurring writing is like a poison to me. I don’t know how, but if I make room for an hour or two of writing a day every day might help me get more prepared for longer writing.
In Conclusion
When will the first chapter be done? I don’t know. When will I start writing? Hopefully as soon as I can. I can try to post updates or work in progresses, but that’s still a pipe dream, in my honest opinion. But I want to make progress in 2020, I need to make a difference and to actually make this coming year worthwhile.

Powerpuff Girls 2016 - “Our Brand Is Chaos”
Tumblr media
Written by: Jake Goldman
Written & Storyboarded by: John West, Angela Zhang
Directed by: Nick Jennings, Bob Boyle
Not really that hell-ish.
Tumblr media
This episode begins with Blossom, away from her sisters, reading her favorite book at home. Being Reboot Blossom, this book is all about tax codes. Just in case a six year old girl reading tax codes isn't enough for people to consider that she's an unrelatable nerd, the book is even the "Overly Complicated Edition". Unfortunately, before she can get to her favorite chapter about deductibles, she gets interrupted by everyone's favorite Santa Claus Claw Demon.
Tumblr media
For the first time since Blisstersweet Symphony, Him makes an onscreen appearance in the reboot. He had one mention in Mojo The Great and got replaced by a generic devil in Ragnarock and Roll, but this is his first on-screen appearance in Season 3. There's already one problem with his appearance in this episode: he doesn't have his echoed voice. That is going to be a sign.
Blossom tries to throw the book at him, not exactly saying that joke but a different one that fits just as well, but Him shoots her with a beam that shrinks her before the book could even leave her hands. Him happily tells Blossom that...
Him: Your soul is mine!
Even without his voice filter, this episode's Him is far closer to the Him I would imagine him to be. I'd rather see Him as Shang Tsung from the first Mortal Kombat movie than the Frogurt salesman from that one episode of the Simpsons. Blossom asks how this happened, and he explains to her that her sisters did it.
Tumblr media
We get a flashback to Bubbles and Buttercup, or Bubblescup as they essentially share the same role in this episode, going ga-ga over the Snowsploder 7000 Turbo. It's a rocket powered bobsled that comes equipped with a waffle maker, and it's available for the low, low price of $585!
Unfortunately, Buttercup only has $4, and Bubbles has a huge wad of cash that only goes up to $580. I guess if she can eye laser any potential mugger, she can carry her whole life savings with her. Unfortunately, with only $584, they're a dollar short, and they'd give anything to get that dollar. Suddenly, Him shows up to offer them a contract: they get that dollar, but they have to give him Blossom's soul, which he says is the most important thing to them.
Tumblr media
Yeah, apparently not important enough, as they agree to this contract immediately. One would think an offer from such a prominent member of the Powerpuff Girls' Rogues Gallery would give Bubblescup some pause, but the episode wouldn't continue if they didn't sign this contract with no thought whatsoever. I mean, it's just their sister, what harm could selling her soul possibly do compared to the agony of not having a rocket-powered bobsled that can make waffles?
Bubbles: Ooh, I love the red ink!
Him: Yeah...ink...
Maybe I'm just bewildered that this reboot could imply that blood exists, but I found that particular line funny.
After that flashback, Blossom is immediately condemned to Him's realm, shown for the first time in this reboot. The original had so many great shots of that realm. In fact, it's one of the few things that were improved in Season 5 and 6, because they took advantage of computer animation to make it as surreal as possible! With 2016's amazing technology, what does the reboot do with it?
Tumblr media
Eh, just put some random objects in a purple and green gradient, and have them all float in the void. I could see this as Blossom's personal hell, and the way she reacts to it implies that could be the case. But, no, Him says this is his home, and this is how he likes it.
As Blossom is starting to go insane from all of the nonsensical items in this realm, like apples and oranges in the same basket, Him is going to play in a mariachi band. I guess since this is the Chaos Realm, grabbing a joke from the Soundless Slippers pile makes a lot more sense.
Meanwhile in the world of the living, Bubbles and Buttercup run into a problem: they may have the exact money for that bobsled, but they still need to pay tax! If only Blossom was there to teach them about the importance of that.
Tumblr media
Just kidding, of course Bubblescup get the bobsled and are having the time of their lives. Pretty much every scene with Bubblescup's portion of the episode has the same premise: they don't have any remorse over what they did to Blossom. They don't even mention her name. I could understand Buttercup not realizing the error of her ways, because she's the rascally little green princess, but Bubbles is okay with this, too?
There's a little more plot to this, and I really mean little. Their amazing bobsled has caught the eye of a fellow professional bobsledder, who wants to sign them up to be a part of his team...
Tumblr media
...the Quacksledders! It may not be the Disney-related Ducks I usually talk about, but this is the closest we get to a crossover between the two shows I review, so I might as well mention it.
Speaking of which, much like an episode of a different show I just reviewed, they try to do some sort of transition between these two plots. Most of them come off like this one:
Buttercup: (after becoming a Quacksledder) This is the best day ever!
Tumblr media
Him: Ugh, this is the worst day ever!
This feels very forced by comparison. The shots aren't even remotely similar visually. This would have been mitigated a little if Him actually lived in a fiery place of misery, because at least there would be some contrast to the icy place of happiness that Bubblescup is in. As Him is complaining about his trumpet player keeping the band from becoming great, he bumps into a door.
Him doesn't remember there being a door or a giant wall in his realm, and he has to press the buzzer. The guy behind that buzzer asks if he has an appointment, and he tells him that he's the supreme ruler of this realm. The guy tells him he isn't. The door opens, and Him can't believe his eyes when he sees that monster with red horn-like structures on her head.
Tumblr media
Somehow, Blossom took over the realm while Him was busy with his band, rebranding it as Chaos Incorporated. They don't elaborate how this happened. She just says that she lived in a place that was disorganized, and then she organized it. She then opens a window showing a bunch of demons in cubicles, making cold calls.
This is an episode where Blossom's soul is sold to the devil, she goes to a place that is essentially hell in all but name or looks, and Blossom ends up becoming the supreme ruler of it. As soon as Him says "what" at this, we get a Townsville news bulletin.
Tumblr media
No, there's no real transition here. This bulletin is all about the hit bobsledding sensation. They appear on magazines, boxes of WhEaties, and they even their own hit record in Japan. Newscaster Nick StillNoLastName interviews them to ask what their secret is. Needless to say, they don't say it was because they sold their sister's soul to the devil.
Bubbles and Buttercup are ready for Bobsledageddon, and Buttercup specifically tells any potential challengers to "bring it on".
Tumblr media
In come the Tracer Triplets, the constant winners of the Bobsledageddon. I can't help but think that's because they are apparently the only other team that decided to show up for it, as we don't see anyone else. That's still one more than the Battle of the Bands from Electric Buttercup, at least. Also, they're evil! How evil?
Yellow Tracer Triplet: Also, we don't think baby animals are cute!
Nothing actually caused them to say this, but they had to say it because they're the bad guys! Bubbles is absolutely delighted to hear this from them.
Tumblr media
And by that, I mean she makes this veiny face and turns her pigtails into fire. She then tackles the not-Derbytantes, leading to an off-screen beatdown even Buttercup can't bear to watch. See, the joke is that Bubbles is normally a cute little teddy bear, but sometimes, she gets angry! What an original joke, and not something that has been overdone.
This plot is so boring. If I have to watch this plot for another minute, I'm going to go nuts. I don't belong in this plot, see? I wish we could go back to the other place.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, we do, using an explosion as a transition. At least it's something. This totally-not-a-place-where-damned-souls-are-tortured-for-all-eternity has now become a call center, where demons like Him cold call people with amazing offers that only cost their soul.
Blossom shows up, and she's cosplaying and acting as the boss from Office Space, complete with a coffee mug and suspenders. This outfit only lasts this one scene, and it's only there because this reference just wouldn't be as funny without it. It's not really that funny even with it, to be honest.
Tumblr media
Because he failed to abide by the dress code, which did not include Santa Claus outfits, he gets demoted to the mail department. I wish they would have elaborated on this beyond having winged devils taking care of this, but I can assume this is where all the junk mail comes from. He wants his realm back, and his sentient leprechaun cup gives him an idea on just how to get it: tear up that contract! Thanking him for the idea, Him shoves his sentient leprechaun cup into the mail chute.
Oh yeah, maybe I should elaborate on that. See, this would cause a distraction, so Him can go to the filing cabinet to find that contract before Blossom can fix it. There, that explains everything.
Tumblr media
Blossom, now back in the suit she was wearing before, catches Him in the act, revealing that the contract was in her stubs this whole time. Boss Blossom doesn't want to go home, she has so much to do. She just got finished collating the koalas. Chaos, ooooh!
Those koalas do end up being the last straw, as he starts firing lasers that turn into a walrus, a Christmas tree, and an accordion. I originally was confused by the Christmas tree, considering what this villain represents, but then I realized he wears a Santa Claus outfit. As for the walrus and the accordion...chaos! Ooooh!
Tumblr media
This fight scene isn't too bad, actually. I actually liked this one bit where, while Blossom is putting those random items Him was firing at her in a filing cabinet, Him just bursts out of that cabinet and punches her out. That actually took me by surprise, which, surprisingly for an episode with "chaos" in the name, is pretty rare.
Best of all, it's not one-sided, with both combatants dishing out pain on each other in an equal amount. I'd argue the devil should be putting up way more of a fight, but I'd argue this lack of chaos has weakened him.
Tumblr media
This ends with the devilish supreme ruler of this realm of pure darkness playing a game of tug-of-war with Him. How that sentence isn't me making another potshot at the Reboot Puffs is part of the reason I kind of like this episode. I mean, Blossom taking over what is essentially Hell.
Tumblr media
After the obvious conclusion of a tug-of-war involving a piece of paper and a pair of claws, everything gets reset. Chaos Incorporated goes back to the uninspired gradient nothing-scape it was before, and Bubblescup's bobsled disappears while they're in mid-air. Fortunately for them, they can fly. Unfortunately for them, they forgot that about as much as they forgot how important Blossom is to them.
Tumblr media
After an exterior shot of the house with sitcom music playing over it, feels like the Powerpuff Girls to me, I lie, we see Bubblescup practically mummified in full-body casts. Blossom tells them that she hopes they learned their lesson.
The episode does at least do a book end, a literal one, by having Blossom read the Tax Code book to them. The soul sellers groan, as if this wasn't a deserved punishment. Episode end.
Does the title fit?
The "brand" part actually fits into what Blossom wants to do with Him's.
How does it stack up?
I honestly couldn't give this a Disgusted. The plot seems like it was going to turn into another "Blossom gets the short end of the stick" episode, but it ends up turning into a rather unique episode.
I can't imagine Him fans are going to be very happy with this one, though. I would personally disagree, as I found it funny that the biggest evil of the franchise was relegated to just being a mere white-collar worker, but I can see how people would hate that.
I really didn't have much to hate about this one outside of a rather useless B-plot that only served to give the A-plot a decent premise and nothing else. I debated whether or not this should be a really low Happy or a really high Neutral, and I think the concept put it slightly above that threshold.
Tumblr media
Next, a tale about a tail unlike any other. There's a good reason for that.

Part 1 of 7 for this final week of the year!
Death Battle is a favorite show of mine. Sure, I do work on it but I still find it enjoyable. So to celebrate the Season’s end, I figured why not talk about my Top 10 Favorites. But thinking it over, I don’t think its fair to group them all together. There are almost 100 episodes and multiple seasons. While its officially 4, I like to believe its really 6. So to give more episodes a fair shot, I’ve decided to split them all up into specific eras.
First is Season 1, From Boba Fett Vs Samus Aran to Robotnik Vs Wily, these are all of the Death Battles Animated by Ben Singer. Too boot, these are some of the few Death Battles made before the Research Team was created in Season 2. So let’s see which of these 19 made it to my Top 10. Keep in mind those that do not make the list are not my most hated, I enjoy these just more.
Tumblr media
#10 - Chun-Li VS Mai Shiranui
The First Lady of Fighting Games Vs one of the few fighters to represent the SNK Brand. These two were Rivals in the Capcom Vs SNK Series and its nice to see them actually determine which of these two are truly the better fighter. While part of me is sadden to see a Street Fighter lose, seeing Mai win only made my anticipation for Terry Bogard to finally step into the Death Battle Arena.
Tumblr media
#9 - Starscream VS Rainbow Dash
The first of surprisingly two entries from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I honestly expected to see another Transformer enter before another Pony. But using just Season 1 of the show, Rainbow Dash proved she could overcome Starscream. And that’s mostly because her opponent was Starscream. Honestly, it was surprising, though expected at the same time, to see a Pony beat a Robot.
Tumblr media
#8 - Felicia VS Taokaka
A literal cat fight and the first appearance of Blazblue. Luckily Taokaka was a lot more simple to understand. While I was rooting for Felicia since she is a Capcom girl, the moment I heard Chainsaw Claws made me bet that Taokaka was going to come out the winner. The funniest part is that in the middle of their battles, they decide to be like cats and play with a butterfly.
Tumblr media
#7 - Kratos VS Spawn
Kratos may have lost, but dang did he not make it easy for Spawn. From my time on Factpile, I did expect the Spawn to win. But the lore these two have were great to listen to. And the fight taking place in the SNES Aladdin stage was so funny. And I’m not sure, but I think I lead them to the Kratos sprites they used. It came from an Mobile game.
Tumblr media
#6 - Haggar VS Zangief
Featuring the first time sprites I worked on being in an official Death Battle. Ignoring that, Haggar Vs Zangief was a fight I wanted to see for the longest time from Capcom. So many Final Fight characters appeared in Street Fighter at this point why hasn’t the Muscled Mayor of Metro City yet enter? But thankfully, Death Battle gave us the answer.
Tumblr media
#5 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Battle Royale
One of the few times Death Battle did a Battle Royal. But someone has to settle which Turtle was truly the superior one. A tip for those inspired to do their own Death Battle Battle Royals: there is more to figuring out who would win a battle royal than who would win fights between individuals. As this shown, Leonardo being the more tactical Turtle took on the weakest while allowing his two biggest threats to tire each other out.
Speaking of which, I was so rooting for Ralph but they made a great argument as to why Leonardo would win. After all, if Leo was intending to finish Ralph off, he could have done so anytime.
Tumblr media
#4 - Mario VS Sonic
The two biggest stars in Platformers duke it out. As you can probably guess, I was on Team Sonic all the way. And using the ModGen Sprites were a good investment in my book. But what I believe was eventually true: with Power Ups Mario can be competition but once he runs dry Sonic’s speed trumps.
Tumblr media
#3 - Akuma VS Shang Tsung
The first of four Mortal Kombat Vs Street Fighter fights. And also Capcom’s first representative being in Death Battle. It is amazing how Akuma is the only Street Fighter to beat his Mortal Kombat opponent. And of the two fights that used the Life Bars, this one was the most appropriate. A strong second showing from Death Battle in my book.
Tumblr media
#2 - Vegeta VS Shadow
The first of many collaborations with Team Four Star and Screwattack, what made an obvious result all the more enjoyable as Lanipator’s Vegeta really elevated this fight for me. Even without that, for a brief moment, I actually thought Shadow was going to win.
Tumblr media
#1 - Eggman VS Wily
Another tip for those inspired to do their own Death Battle War Games: the fight better feel like an actual war between two sides. Even if I did a normal Top 10 of all the Death Battles together, this will still be in it. Seeing all these forces working together was amazing to see. Seeing their grunts battle, their heavy hitters, their champions, even themselves fighting each other! Goku Vs Superman got a rematch. Samus Vs Boba got a Remastered. If any other fight deserved either of those, its this one.
And that was Part 1 of my list. Tomorrow, Part 2 - The Lange Era

This alt-J Music Video May Or May Not Have Been Directed By The Creator Of LSD: Dream Emulator
First, a heads up to those who might need to know: the above contains a considerable amount of flashing imagery.
It was also posted by one of the Japanese Tower Records Twitter accounts. Google Translate spat out: “One of Britain's leading bands, Alto J (Alt-J) released the latest work on June 9. Mr. Sato, a multimedia artist in Japan, who worked on artwork.”
I want to believe they’re talking about is the one and only Osamu Sato, creator of Eastern Mind, Chu-Teng, and LSD. Am not 100%, but it certainly looks like his handiwork! At the very least, the album art looks straight of of the aforementioned PSone classic…
Tumblr media
Alright, may as well highlight a few other things I stumbled across on Twitter. Starting with…
Recently became familiar with Norio Nakagata’s account. He’s a vet in the industry, having worked on NES classics like Burai Fighter, Low G Man, and Zombie Nation. He’s still active today, as evidenced by this snapshot of his “development environment”…
Tumblr media
He’s also pals with actor Hiroshi Fujioka, best known for the role of Segata Sanshiro, whom he had drinks with at a video game bar that happened to have this lying around…
Tumblr media
miki800.com recently highlighted a person’s journey into the bootleg backstreets of Shanghai, which was originally shared on Twitter, and the source thankfully had a closer look at the one game that interested me the most. That being a Super Mario USA cart with Astro Boy’s face superimposed on top, which is also a Street Fighter 2 rom hack…
Tumblr media
There’s also this cart, which I know nothing about, other than it looks really nice…
Tumblr media
@oleivarrudi not too long ago shared a really nice looking mock up of a Metal Gear Rising demake…
Tumblr media
@Ryotaiku’s comic is for all the My Horse Prince fans out there…
Tumblr media
Via the Tiny Cart Twitter are some l i f e g o a l s indeed…
Tumblr media
Been playing Breath of the Wild for quite some time but I have yet to encounter myself, like Matt Gerardi did several weeks ago…
Tumblr media
… Oh and here’s an animated gif that really nails the new Zelda, plus another that brilliantly mixes shmups and that image that went (and still is) super viral, both of which I can’t post since they’re too big Tumblr don’t like that. Oh well,
Though I can’t hate on Tumblr too much, since it did provide this rather eye-opening bit of intel, courtesy of superman--thanksforasking…
“Fun fact: Mortal Kombat and Sabrina The Teenage Witch take place in the same universe. In 1997, to promote the upcoming sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa reprised his role as Shang Tsung from the first film in an episode of Sabrina The Teenage Witch entitled “Get Over… YOURSELF.” It is revealed that Shang Tsung is actually Sabrina’s uncle by marriage, and while in town on business, he pays the Spellmans a brief visit. Sabrina’s aunts are not thrilled when Shang Tsung fixes dinner–raw boar–or when he takes Salem’s soul after the cat insults him. To get it back, Sabrina agrees to help promote that year’s Mortal Kombat tournament; shenanigans ensue.”
Ready to have your goddamn mind blown yet again? Credit goes to dnopls for connecting the goddamn dots…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My new fave Tumblr belongs to pixel8or, who manages to take footage shot from a moving vehicle and make it to look like footage from inside Rez…
Tumblr media
It’s because of posthumanwanderings I discovered the existence of a series of maxipad commercials that are clearly inspired by Space Channel 5…
youtube
Sticking with Sega, though more so the subject of sound, here we have the menu music from the Sega Channel. All 40 minutes’ worth…
youtube
Everyone knows that the original Japanese soundtrack to Castlevania 3 is superior to the US version. But did you know that there’s a way to improve upon perfect? Yes there is… by adding the aforementioned much maligned NES version directly on top (thanks for the heads up Slonie)…
youtube
As meldowiseau reminds us all, Ken from Street Fighter drives barefoot. Not a huge shocker, maybe, yet it’s again an important reminder…
Tumblr media
There’s also a Mortal Kombat clone that stars Butt-Head from Beavis and Butt-Head fame that vaguely feels like a porno, hence why I refuse to investigate further…
Tumblr media
Via obscurevideogames is a lovely not quite still life from an arcade game called Quester, which you’d think is a shmup but is actually just an Arkanoid clone…
Tumblr media
This week’s random piece of super kawaii art from a Tumblr artist whose work I just became aquatinted with is via dreamsntangles…
Tumblr media
For those who have paid attention, I know folks involved in the world of Garbage Pail Kids, which also means I know folks involved in the world of Wacky Packages. And here’s a game related piece, by Joe Simko…
Tumblr media
According to Video Game Densetsu, this is what a proposed Star Fox & company overhaul could been. Which makes what we’ve been seeing all the more boring…
Tumblr media
Just a semi-regular reminder of how cute the PSP can be, in the right setting, one that I originally spotted over at sixteen-bit…
Tumblr media
Speaking of hardware, and call me late to the party, but anyone out there familiar this device, which allows you to play actual SNES and Genesis games on your computer? I suppose the idea of using emulators as the means to ultimately drive legit software isn’t the craziest thing in the world, given how stuff like the Retron uses them as well…
Tumblr media
A blast from the past that Kotaku pulled up the other the day, which many may have missed, of a Canadian Christian fundamentalist warning parents of the evil that is Final Fantasy…
youtube
I wonder how long this Pikmin cosplayer was sitting there, before anyone noticed?
Tumblr media
My buddy Steve recently reminded me of this oldie but goodie...
Tumblr media
One more old pic, I was reorganizing files and came across this iPhone screenshot several years and phones ago. I legit have no idea what I was thinking…
Tumblr media
Anyone know where I can get a copy of Virtua Fighter Vol.1: Donkey Kong? Asking for a friend (guess I could just pester mightynonine)…
Tumblr media
Does anyone also know if Zapperfilms will ever be updated again? Asking for me…
Tumblr media
Thankfully, after laying low for a tad bit, Games Are Art recently posted an update! And on that note, that’s it for this one…

Blade Runner 2019, Pokemon & Textile Recycling
Welcome back to another exciting episode from those wacky Nerds you all love. This week we have actually made an episode that actually happens to be both Nerdy and entertaining somehow. It may actually even be able to be described as illuminating and educational, but that is up for debate. Now the ever important first topic, we have found out that there is a new series of graphic novels (or comics if you are as ancient as Buck) set in the Blade Runner universe at the time of 2019. Which, for those individuals that have been living in a cave or under a rock; and somehow have never read the book or seen the fabulously stupendous movie is the year it is set in. Not our perfunctorily boring reality, as we don’t have replicants and space colonies, sad to say. Oh humanity, the 60’s and 70’s were looking so bright, then you got caught up with hippies and drugs and look at you now, still stuck on earth with moronic politicians that are utterly boring.
Next up we look at the new Pokémon game and discuss some of the various aspects, highlights and what we believe may be oversights as well. We wonder about the cross over into Super Smash Bros. Is Nintendo looking at a massive reveal next year at e3 with the launch of the Switch2, will we see all the various Pokémon from all evolutions of all games included in a monster pack? Will this be the start of a new trend in gaming? Will that stain come out of my favourite black shirt? Who knows, what we do know is that this is looking like a fun game to play so keep your eyes open and catch it while you can.
Buck brings us news about the excessive waste of clothing going to landfill and polluting the planet. That’s right, all you strange people out there wearing lycra and spandex. The micro fibres from synthetic clothing are bad, nasty and downright toxic. Shame on anyone wearing synthetics, don’t you know they harm the environment. We, unlike some people have scientific evidence supporting this statement, so listen in and see what we are talking about. If you want to learn more please refer to the link provided. If you wish to read the article please go to page 61, if you wish to remain ignorantly oblivious please go to page 666. Hope you like the flash back to the choose your own adventure books, if you grew up reading these you are lucky.
As normal we have the various shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and special events. We also talk about the games we are playing. As always please remember to take care of yourselves and look out for each other, stay safe and hydrated, got to catch them all…
