I was wondering why does having clean teeth feel so liberating? Then I realized it's because you no longer get shamed into quitting smiling.
#Serious(?) post#Not really#I don't want to tag this#But my mental health really didn't help taking care of my teeth#It didn't really help smiling either#And I kinda felt like people worried aboyt their smile were making a fuss#Like it's frivolous wanting to have healthy teeth just to smile#Turns out healthy teeth aren't just for that#But you still somehow feel vain for doing really basic routine selfcare#Growing up I was taught that's what's inside that counts#Which meant that taking care of the outside was a waste of energy or time#Lbr with that kind of mindset you try to boost your ego by feeling more important because you are low maintenance#So you end up lowering that bar as much as you can to silently judge those around you#And you also end up miserable because no one takes care of you#Honestly self care takes so much energy and now I can see it#That's why I no longer take it for granted#And I'm also proud of myself for just existing thanks to that#And kids that's how I learn to value basic self care
