Washington is working "as diligently as possible" for the sale of F-16 warplanes to Türkiye as it looks forward to the Turkish Parliament's approval of Sweden's NATO membership bid, the State Department said Wednesday.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the U.S. welcomes the vote at the Turkish Parliament's foreign affairs commission last week, adding: "We look forward to a final vote and seeing Sweden's accession ratified."
"We have made clear that we did not believe the sale of F-16s and modernization links to Turkey should be linked with NATO's with Sweden's NATO session, but there are members of Congress who have a different opinion and that they have linked the two," Miller said in response to a question from an Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter.[...]
"But I will say that I think the best thing that could happen to lead the progress ... on [the sale] would be for Turkey to take action as soon as possible to ratify Sweden’s accession," he added.[...]
Türkiye is seeking to purchase from the U.S. the latest model F-16 Block 70 aircraft, as well as 79 modernization kits to upgrade its remaining F-16s to Block 70 level.

The Turkish national defense minister said Wednesday that Türkiye was monitoring the process of requesting the purchase of F-16 fighter jets from the United States, noting they were expecting to see concrete steps regarding the process "as soon as possible."

A fighter jet struck a house in Khan Younis, south of Gaza City, leaving three people dead, including a child. Several people were said to remain trapped under the rubble.
Another strike targeted a house in the central city of Deir al-Balah, killing and injuring at least 15 people.
Ten people were also killed and injured in an Israeli airstrike on a house in Zawaida district in central Gaza Strip.
Separately, an Israeli airstrike targeted a house in Tel al-Sultan refugee camp, west of Rafah in southern Gaza.

The United States is signaling the possibility of Turkey returning to the F-35 program, as long as the issue of the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft defense system is resolved.
During an exclusive interview with the Turkish media, Acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland revealed that the U.S. is open to Turkey's reintegration into the F-35 fighter program, subject to the resolution of the controversy related to the Turkish acquisition of Russia's S-400 anti-aircraft defense system.
Nuland recognized the complexity of the diplomacy involved, stating: "We were in the process of negotiating the sale of the Patriot missile system, and while these negotiations were underway, Turkey went down another path." She emphasized that the resolution of the S-400 issue is a precondition for Turkey's reintegration into the F-35 family, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the maintenance of a solid air defense capability by Turkey.
The statement was made during Nuland's visit to Turkey on Sunday, with the main objective of "reinvigorating" the ties between the two nations. The delicate balance between addressing security concerns and promoting collaboration served as a backdrop for their discussions.
“Obviously, if we can solve this issue of the S-400, which we would like to do, the US would be delighted to receive [Turkey] back to the F-35 family. But we have to solve this other issue first,” Nuland told Turkish television CNNTurk on Monday.
The visit takes place a few days after Ankara ratified Sweden's accession to NATO and Washington approved the sale of F-16 fighters to the Turkish military.
Nuland addressed the ongoing approval process in Congress for the acquisition of U.S.-made F-16 fighters and modernization kits, highlighting efforts to persuade lawmakers. She emphasized the importance of Turkey's development of the F-16 fleet for the safety of the United States and argued that Turkey's active participation is crucial for an equitable distribution of the burden among allies.
As diplomatic efforts intensify, Turkey's potential return to the F-35 program remains dependent on the successful resolution of the S-400 issue, reflecting the intricate interaction between security considerations and strategic partnerships.
But the acquisition of the F-35 may be more complex. Turkey was expelled from the consortium that manufactures the new generation of F-35 poacher fighters in 2020, under the Anti-Adversaries of America Act through Sanctions (CAATSA), after acquiring Russia's S-400 anti-missile defense system. CAATSA was approved by an overwhelming majority by Congress in 2017 and introduces sanctions on any significant transactions with Russia.

İBB, sorumluluğundaki Büyükada, Caddebostan, Bakırköy Güneş ve Küçükçekmece Menekşe plajlarını yaza hazırladı. 15 Haziran’da açılacak sezon giyinme kabini, duş alanları, şemsiye ve şezlongları ile misafirlerine günübirlik tatil konforu sunacak. 662 CANKURTARAN GÖREV ALIYOR
İBB, her yıl olduğu gibi plaj sezonunda kendi sorumluluğundaki plajlarla birlikte İstanbul genelindeki 51 plajda 09.30-19.00 saatleri arasında cankurtaran hizmeti vermeye devam edecek. 662 cankurtaran personelinin görev alacağı plajlarda cankurtaran hizmeti kapsamında 50 adet Jet-Ski, 4 adet Kurtarma Botu 2 Adet Dron (Hava Aracı), 19 adet ATV Aracı, 244 adet Gözetleme Kulesi bulunuyor.
2005 – 2024 yılları arasında cankurtaran hizmeti verilen plajlarda boğulma tehlikesi geçiren 72.996 kişi kurtarıldı.
GÜVENLİ BÖLGELER İÇİN TABELALAR YER ALIYOR
Hizmet verilen 51 plajın tamamında plaj kurallarına ve tehlikelere ait bilgilendirme amaçlı tabelalar yer alıyor. Hizmet verilen plajlarda denize girilebilecek güvenli bölgeler emniyet bariyerleriyle çevrilerek yönlendirmeler yapılıyor.
EĞİTMENLER EŞLİĞİNDE PLAJ ETKİNLİKLERİ
İBB Gençlik ve Spor Müdürlüğü ile Spor İstanbul işbirliğinde 11 plajda futboldan badmintona kadar birçok spor etkinliği düzenlenecek. Plaj etkinlikleri Pazartesi günleri hariç her plajda 2 eğitmen olmak üzere toplam 22 spor eğitmeni eşliğinde haftanın 6 günü, 09.30-19.00 saatleri arasında gerçekleşecek.

UNESCO - the UN body that promotes world peace and security - has awarded its World Press Freedom Prize to all Palestinian journalists covering the war in Gaza, where Israel has launched a brutal invasion for more than six months, killing tens of thousands of civilians and turning the tiny enclave into the "deadliest" place for journalists in recent history.
"In these times of darkness and hopelessness, we wish to share a strong message of solidarity and recognition to those Palestinian journalists who are covering this crisis in such dramatic circumstances," Mauricio Weibel, chair of the international jury of media professionals announced on Thursday.

"As humanity, we have a huge debt to their courage and commitment to freedom of expression," he added. Audrey Azoulay, director general at UNESCO, said the prize paid "tribute to the courage of journalists facing difficult and dangerous circumstances."
Last week a Palestinian journalist was killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza, taking the death toll to 142 media personnel since October 7, 2023, according to Anadolu Agency.
Salem Abu Toyor, a reporter for Al-Quds TV, and his son lost their lives when Israeli fighter jets struck their home in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, the TV station said.
The pair were buried in the central city of Deir al Balah.
'No Journalist In Gaza Is Spared'
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) - a global body that promotes press freedom worldwide - says journalists in Gaza face particularly high risks as they try to cover the conflict during the Israeli assault, including devastating Israeli airstrikes.
Christophe Deloire, the secretary general of Reporters Without Borders, Paris-based non-governmental organisation focused on safeguarding the right to freedom of information, said, "If the numbers show anything, it is that since October 7, no place in Gaza is safe, no journalist in Gaza is spared, and the massacre has not stopped. We reiterate our urgent appeal to protect journalists in Gaza."
Only UN Prize For Journalists
World Press Freedom Prize honours an outstanding contribution to the defence and/or promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, especially when this has been achieved in the face of danger.
It is the only such prize awarded to journalists by the UN.
The ongoing Israeli war on Gaza has resulted in devastating casualties.
Israeli military has killed at least 34,596 Palestinians, with a staggering 70 percent being babies, children, and women, Palestinian officials say.
Additionally, more than 77,816 individuals have been wounded, while over10,000 people are feared buried under the debris of bombed structures.

Havacılık stajı için zaman zaman yurtdışına gitmek zorunda kalan Türk öğrencilerimiz artık kendi okulunda uluslararası standartlarda yabancı dilde eğitim alabilirken aynı zamanda yurtdışından gelen yabancı uyruklu misafir öğrenciler ile birlikte yüksek standartlarda OJT (on job training) stajlarını da tamamlayabilmekte, bu sayede birbirleriyle kaynaşma ve bilgi alışverişinde bulunma fırsatı da yakalamaktadırlar. Romanya’nın başkenti Bükreş’te bulunan Henri Coandă Havacılık Teknik Koleji ile İstanbul Anadolu yakasındaki tek Özel Havacılık Lisesi olan YESEVİ Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi arasında yapılan protokol ile Romanya vatandaşı olan 10.sınıf öğrencisi yirmi kişi üç hafta süren staj programına kabul edildi. Yesevi Havacılık Lisesi kampüsünde yer alan hangardaki gerçek uçak ve jet motorları ile yakıt, hidrolik, oksijen, yangın önleme, iniş takımı, yapısal eğitim setlerinde de pratik eğitim alan öğrenciler, ülkelerine havacılık konusunda yetkin ve donanımlı birer teknisyen ve pilot adayları olarak geri döndüler. Yirmi öğrenci ve iki öğretmenden oluşan Romanya heyeti, Türkiye’de bulundukları süre zarfında yoğun bir eğitim ve gezi sürecine tabi tutuldu. Sabiha Gökçen Havalimanı Yerleşkesindeki Türk Hava Yolları’na ait Turkish Technic hangarlarını ziyaret eden heyet, uçakları ve yapılan bakım hizmetlerini yerinde gördü. Stajyer öğrencilerden sorumlu heyet başkanı Gabriela Bojanapol, “Yesevi Havacılık Lisesi ve Turkish Technic büyüleyici. Öğrencileriniz yıl boyu burada staj yaptığı için çok şanslı. Bizleri üç haftalık staj programına kabul ettiğiniz için minnettarız” ifadelerini kullandı. Yesevi Havacılık Lisesi’nde stajyer öğrencileri ziyaret ederek incelemelerde bulunan Kartal İlçe Milli Eğitim Müdürü Mustafa KIRAÇ, Erasmus kapsamında gerçekleştirilen faaliyetlerden ötürü memnuniyetlerini dile getirip bu çalışmaların öncü olması ve yol gösterici olmasını istediğini beyan etti. Eğitimin kapsamı, süresi ve uygulaması konularında eğitmenlerden bilgi alan Kıraç’a okulun 9. Sınıf kız öğrencileri demo bir gösteri sunarak Türk kadının her alanda olduğu gibi havacılıktaki başarısını da kanıtlamaya çalıştılar. Yesevi Havacılık Yönetim Kurulu Başkanı Ali Kodalak konu kapsamındaki değerlendirmelerinde: “Havacılık alanında ülkemiz geliştikçe bizler de atılım yapıyoruz. Kurumumuz uluslararası düzeyde eğitim vermekte olduğunu Asya, Afrika ve Avrupa ülkelerinden gelen ziyaretçiler ve talepler ile ispatlamıştır. Uçak Gövde, Motor, Bakım Teknisyenliği ve Pilotaj konularında öğrencilerimizi kalifiye etmek için kaliteden asla ödün vermiyoruz “ ifadelerine yer verdi.

Rising tensions between Greece and Turkey over a simple goodwill tweet indicates how alarmingly volatile the relations between two NATO allies are becoming.
Allegations that Greece’s Russian-made S-300 air defense batteries locked on Turkish jet fighters during a NATO mission in the Mediterranean Aug. 28 increased tensions between Turkey and Greece. The bickering morphed into a more serious escalation on Twitter a few days later.
On Aug. 30, NATO’s Allied Land Command (LANDCOM), the organization’s headquarters that is tasked with coordinating allied nations’ armies and based in the western Turkish city of Izmir, sent a tweet to congratulate the centennial of Turkey's Victory Day. But the LANDCOM account soon deleted the tweet after protests from the Greek government. [...]
One hundred years ago on Aug. 30, the Turkish military had destroyed [...] Greek forces in western Anatolia, marking the end of what became Greece's “Asia Minor catastrophe” and the military victory of Turkey’s “National Struggle/War of Liberation.”
Back to Sept. 1, 2022, a new tweet from LANDCOM said that the account had congratulated Turkey's Victory Day, even though the original tweet was gone. The second tweet inflamed Turkish social media. Adding insult to injury, Turkish Twitterati found the LANDCOM account's tweet from March 25 celebrating Greece’s Independence Day.
Defense and security analyst Arda Mevlutoglu tweeted back to LANDCOM on Sept. 1: “Why did you need to state that you celebrated on [Aug. 30]?” — pointing out the absence of the original tweet. Mevlutoglu followed up in successive tweets, also tagging the main NATO account: “Are you going to issue a statement on this [LANDCOM]? What is the reason for the deletion of the original message and posting a new one two days later?”
Even the Turkish Ministry of National Defense got into the fray: “It is unacceptable for [LANDCOM] to delete the social media post celebrating the August 30 Victory and Turkish Armed Forces Day by giving up its will upon a selfish and spoiled attitude of another NATO member,” referring to Greece. The tweet came with a much longer press statement that mentioned the Greek radar lock on Turkish jets on Aug. 28.
The affair has led some Turkish foreign policy experts to believe that Greece is trying to benefit from Turkey’s poor image in Western media circles. [...]
Meanwhile, Erdogan dialed things up on Sept. 3. Speaking at a technology festival in the Black Sea town of Samsun, Erdogan criticized Greece’s amassing of weapons into its eastern Aegean islands that are a stone's throw away from the Turkish mainland. In recent months, Ankara has upped the ante by disputing Greek sovereignty over the islands, arguing that arms buildup on the islands violates Athens’ past treaty commitments. Even more worrisome for the Greeks and the Americans, Erdogan uttered his now famed phrase on Sept. 3, “We may suddenly come one night,” a signal he uses whenever he has considered to mobilize the Turkish military — especially in Syria.
A senior Turkish official who is intimately involved in NATO affairs struck an even tougher line. Speaking to Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity, the official stressed Turkey's contributions to NATO for 70 years. [...]
While there are clear indications that the United States is siding with Greece (Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s speech to the US Congress in May is a case in point), and Washington is the most powerful force in NATO, Ankara is not without its friends. In the last two decades, Spain and Italy have provided key support for Turkish military modernization projects such as the amphibious assault ship TCG Anadolu and the T-129 attack helicopters. Turkey is now exporting the latter to third-party countries.
In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, Turkey has intensified its cooperation with the United Kingdom and Poland, which are vigorous in their support of Ukraine. British defense giant BAE Systems has provided critical support for Ankara's fifth-generation fighter jet, the TF-X / MMU. In 2021, Poland became the first NATO country to buy the famed Bayraktar TB-2 drones. Romania is also likely to purchase Bayraktar TB-2s.
Just this week, Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar visited the MSPO defense expo in Kielce, Poland, and toured the Turkish pavilion with Polish President Andrzej Duda. Along with Bayraktar, Turkish defense heavyweights ASELSAN and ROKETSAN showcased their hardware.[...]
One positive note on that front is that LANDCOM has not posted any new tweets since Sept. 1.

Uçak Seferlerinde Kış Tarifesine Geçildi
Türk Hava Yolları (THY) tarafından uçuş programında değişikliğe gidildi.
Geçilen Kış tarifesinde Elazığ’da uçuş saatlerinde değişikliğe gidilmezken Malatya’da uçuş saatlerinin değişmesi tepkiye neden oldu
Türk Hava Yolları (THY) tarafından uçuş programında değişikliğe gidildi. Geçilen Kış tarifesinde Elazığ’da uçuş saatlerinde değişikliğe gidilmedi. THY tarafından Malatya Havalimanı Ankara uçuş programında değişikliğe gidildi.
Buna göre haftanın 6 günü sabah saat 07.00’de Ankara’dan Malatya’ya, saat 08.45’de Malatya’dan Ankara’ya, haftanın 4 günü ise Ankara’dan 16.25’de, Malatya’dan ise 18.10’da kalkış yapılacak.
Ankara- Malatya sefer saatinin erken olması tepkilere yol açtı. Alınan bilgiye göre; THY Anadolu Jet Ankara-Malatya yatı seferleri iptal edilerek 20 Kasım 2023 tarihinden itibaren haftanın 6 günü sabah 07.00 Ankara kalkış, 08.10 Malatya varış, 08.45 Malatya kalkış, 10.00 Ankara varış olacak şekilde yeni bir düzenlemeye gidildi.
Haftanın 4 günü ise akşam 16.25 Ankara kalkış, 17.30 Malatya varış, 18.10 Malatya kalkış, 19.25 Ankara varış olacak şekilde seferler planlandı. Ancak, 20 Kasım 1 Aralık 2023 tarihleri arasındaki Anadolu Jet Ankara-Malatya akşam saatleri 10 gün süre ile ertelendiği öğrenildi
Bu arada, 20 Kasım 2023 tarihinden itibaren haftalık olarak İstanbul Havalimanı -Malatya Havalimanı arasında tamamı THY tarafından 17 tarifeli uçuş olmak üzere 34 seferin planlandığı öğrenildi. Yine aynı şekilde Sabiha Gökçen Havalimanı-Malatya Havalimanında da haftalık Pegusus tarafından 10 , Anadolu Jet tarafından 7 olmak üzere 17 tarifeli uçuş ile 34 seferin planlandığı kaydedildi.
İzmir Adnan Menderes Havalimanı-Malatya Havalimanı arasında ise Sunexpress tarafından haftalık 4 tarifeli uçuş olmak üzere 8 seferin planlandığı öğrenildi.

Baykar Bayraktar TB3 Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle Successfully Completes Landing Gear Test
The Baykar Bayraktar TB3 Unmanned combat aerial vehicle, which is aimed to serve on the TCG ANADOLU, has successfully completed its landing gear cutting test. This milestone was officially announced via Baykar's official Twitter account. The Bayraktar TB3 had already completed its first taxi test successfully. The Baykar Bayraktar TB3 is a Turkish medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) capable of short-range landing and take-off, produced by Baykar. It is currently being developed due to the lack of aircraft to be deployed on the TCG Anadolu amphibious assault ship. According to the initial plans the ship was expected to be equipped with Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II fighter jets but following the removal of Turkey from the procurement program, the vessel entered a modification process to allow it to be able to accommodate UCAVs.
