Staff Report - NASCAR.com February 23, 2020 :Chase Elliott sweeps stage wins at Las Vegas
https://www.nascar.com/news-media/2020/02/23/stage-results-las-vegas-nascar  Chase Elliott took the lead from an off-cycle Ricky Stenhouse Jr. with 15 laps to go and never looked back, claiming the Stage 2 victory for his second stage win of the race Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The driver of the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet has now picked up three of the first four available stage wins to open 2020 after winning Stage 1 of last week’s Daytona 500. He led 55 laps through two stages in the Las Vegas race. Christopher Bell spun off Turn 2 with one lap to go in the stage, bringing out the caution and ending Stage 2. MORE: Full Las Vegas Stage 2 results The reigning NMPA Most Popular Driver was followed by Ryan Blaney in the No. 12 Team Penske Ford, along with Martin Truex Jr. (No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota), William Byron (No. 24 HMS Chevy) and Joey Logano (No. 22 Penske Ford) to round out the top five. Kevin Harvick assumed the lead off the stage-opening restart before ceding to Elliott shortly after on Lap 103. Harvick has led a race-high 74 laps and was sixth in the stage. Stenhouse picked up 22 laps led but finished the stage in 21st. Kyle Busch, who technically started on the pole after qualifying was rained out but a penalty forced him to the rear, was 10th in the stage. The Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 9 Chevrolet driver led the final 14 laps of the stage, adding his second stage win of the season after snagging one in last week’s Daytona 500. MORE: Full Las Vegas Stage 1 results Harvick, who started third in the race, led a race-high 59 laps in the stage and finished third. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr., the most recent Las Vegas winner, snuck into second place in the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, followed by Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney in fourth and his teammate, Joey Logano, in fifth to round out the top five. Daniel Suarez, finally seeing race action in his No. 96 Gaunt Brothers Racing Toyota after missing the Daytona 500, stalled on the opening lap to immediately bring out the caution after the green flag flew. The only other yellow came with a competition caution on Lap 25 after rain washed away most of the racing at the track Saturday. Ross Chastain, filling in for No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing driver Ryan Newman, placed 10th in the stage. Top Ten Up and Coming NASCAR Drivers By Travis Seixas
1.) Alex Bowman
a.) April 25, 1993 (age 24), Tucson, AZ
b.) 2011 K&N Pro Series East Rookie of the Year; 2012 ARCA Racing Series Rookie of the Year.
i.)Alex is a racing simulator for Hendrick and is already promised the seat of the 88 (Dale jr) for a full-time schedule in 2018. We can expect a lot from this young driver, just like it was from Jr. let’s just not have hopes that are too high.
2.) William Byron
 a.) November 29, 1997 (age 19) Charlotte, North Carolina
b.) 2015 NASCAR k&n pro series east champion, most wins by a rookie in the camping world truck series with 7!
i.) William is definitely a very young and talented driver to keep our eyes on in the next couple years. Driving for teams such as Jr Motorsports and Kyle Busch Motorsports, he has shown that he can run upfront right off the bat and stay there for the win. Let’s keep an eye on this young upcoming racer.
3.) Darrell Wallace Jr. “Bubba Wallace”
  a.) October 8, 1993 (age 23) Mobile, Alabama
b.) 2010 K&N Pro Series East Rookie of the Year
i.) This is a driver who I believe has slipped through the cracks trying to become successful in this demanding competitive sport. Darrell is what I would classify as a consistent driver. He may not win every other weekend like some other popular up and coming racers but his consistency beatsmost his age. His troubles holding sponsorship contracts is workingagainst him but when he lands a solid team and contract topaint the hood of his car do not count this man out on race day!
4.) Ryan Reed
    a.) August 12, 1993 (age 23) Bakersfield, California
    b.) 2015 and 2017 Xfinity Daytona wins
i.) Ryan might not have as many wins or an amazing success story like most of the drivers on this list but I'd like to think that most Daytona winners wear that title a little prouder. With two Daytona wins and the support of Roush Fenway racing, I do hope that we see this second generation cup driver races his way into his own success story.
5.) Cole Custer
    a.) January 23, 1998 (age 19) Ladera Ranch, California
b.) 2012 rookie of the year in late models with ten wins, 2-time winner in camping
         World truck series.
i.) Young guns at its finest. Cole holds the record for youngest pole qualifierin a NASCAR series. With being brought up by Jr. Motorsports and now supported full time in the Xfinity Series by Stewart Haas racing, this 19-year-old driver should show a lot of skill over the next few seasons. 2017 is this driver’s rookie year in Xfinity and with the consistency that he has come to the track with every week, it shouldn't be long until we see that victory burnout.
6.) Christopher Bell
    a.) December 16, 1994 (age 22) Norman, Oklahoma
b.) 2013 USAC National Midget Champion
2014 BMARA Champion
2014 Turkey Night Grand Prix winner
2013 Belleville Midget Nationals Champion
2017 Chili Bowl Nationals Champion
i.) Bell has only 42 starts in NASCAR’s truck series with 31 top tens and six wins. Most professional drivers in this series start at a very young age. Bell started his experience in 2011. With a very successful dirt track career and stats like that in one of NASCAR'stop racing series in such a short time let’s not count him out!
7.) Daniel Hemric
      a.) January 27, 1991 (age 26) Kannapolis, North Carolina
b.) 60 Legends Pro National wins with just under 80 starts.
i.) Hemeric has had an exceptional early career in NASCAR’s lower series. He has shown a lot of promise before moving up to NASCAR’s top three series. But that all came to a halt with poor luck and struggles to sign for a full season in the truck series. I believe that now since he had signed on full time with R.C.R. (Richard Childress Racing) in the Xfinity series we can finally expect great, consistent finishes out of this up and coming driver.
8.) Chase Briscoe
       a.) December 15, 1994 (age 22) Mitchell, Indiana
b.) 2016 ARCA Racing Series Champion
i.) Chase Briscoe is a very promising truck series driver. With Briscoe winning the 2016 ARCA championship and already signed on full time in 2017 with Brad Keselowski Racing in the Camping World Truck Series, he is already promised a solid start to climb up through the ranks.  Briscoe, with only 12 starts this year already has 7 top tens in the number 29.
9.) Austin Cindric
       a.) September 2, 1998 (age 18) Columbus, Ohio
b.) Six top tens in 18 races in Camping World Truck Series.
i.) Austin Cindric is yet another truck series driver that has been found by BKR (Brad Keselowski Racing). Now in 2017 running, full time in NASCAR’s truck circuit, Austin is one of the youngest drivers in this series driving the number 19 for a team owner who is known for his eye to find the new group of “young gun” drivers.
10.) Austin Theriault
       a.) January 23, 1994 (age 23) Fort Kent, Maine
b.) Current leader of ARCA standings
i.) Theriault has no full-time contract in NASCAR’s top series but leading the ARCA series in points for the 2017 season, and already has 11 starts with four top-tens in the truck series, he could absolutely be picked up in the next few years to finally land his full-time ride.
