I think one of the reasons I like #publicspeaking so much is that it returns me to my roots. I spent ten years in the theatre when I was young, and I feel very comfortable in the spotlight. . My topics sometime make me feel strange, though. . I talk about sales, and marketing, and mindset. My specialty has become helping entrepreneurs and professionals increase their profit and visibility. . But that’s not how I started. . When I was young, I was an acrobat in the circus. I once thought that juggling flaming torches and landing my backflips were the highest and most valuable expressions of my skills. . And now, I dress up in a different kind of costume, one that makes me blend in instead of stand out, one that creates comfort instead of excitement. . I like the work, and the people, and I find the topics interesting, but it often feels like I’m in disguise, wearing business-friendly clothes and sharing business-friendly messages, and deep down my wild circus performer is chuckling at this odd new gig. . I’m glad that people find my content valuable, and that it helps people improve their own livelihood. That kind of an impact makes me feel like I’m doing some good in the world. . But deep down, I just want to dazzle. So I’m working on some ways to bring my juggling tricks into my keynote speeches, because my inner acrobat wants to come out to play, too. . The untranslateable words of other cultures give a fascinating linguistic insight into their culture. This presentation by @stephsmithio at #7in7conf was more than just a vocabulary review - she did some really interesting analysis into the frequency of subjects of untranslatable words, and even demonstrated how it changes our perception of colours. The panel led by @kitwhelan during #7in7conf on #climatechange facilitated an interesting discussion on how the #digitalnomad lifestyle can make better #environmental choices. @thejduce brought up a fascinating point - 5% of all carbon emissions are from the Saudi Arabian oil corp, so our impact is limited.
