I love your Celegorm design! It’s so rare to see him drawn with silver hair! He’s described as having fair hair and I always like the idea that he inherited Míriel’s hair, which is also silver, rather than it being randomly blond? Anyways, ITS REALLY GOOD LIKE ALL YOUR ART BUT HES MY FAVORITE CHARACTER SO I EXTRA LOVE YOUR ART OF HIM
Thank you! He’s one of my favorite characters to draw. I think I must have started the fair hair look because I needed to differentiate the sons more, lol, but I grew into it nicely. I also like to take what the text gave us and willfully misinterpret and expand.
If I properly recall, he’s actually described simply as “fair”, much as Dior and other characters are. He’s definitely not golden blond: in Finarfin’s glossary entry, it says “Alone among the Ñoldorin princes he and his descendants had golden hair.” (The Silmarillion, 416)
Uses of ‘fair’ as a descriptor:“Celegorm the Fair.” (64) “Indis the Fair” (71, and he goes on to describe that she has golden hair). Melkor is described as having a “fair semblance” (80). To Eöl, Aredhel is “very fair” (164). // And we know Aredhel has black hair: “for she was pale though her hair was dark.“ (66)“one so royal and fair as Luthien” (232); “Luthien the fair”, (234). // We know "her hair was dark as the shadows of twilight.” (208)“Turin grew fair and strong in Doriath” (256). // We know he was “as dark-haired as his mother” (Children of Hurin, 39).“Elwing the fair” (322). “Dior the fair” (323). “Nimloth the Fair” (351, 356, 374; this one’s a hilarious example because they’re literally talking about a tree, and by the way it does happen to be white). Lastly, Sauron before Numenor is described - just like Melkor - as having “a fair semblance.”
Not to mention the innumerable amount of times that Tolkien describes Tirion and Gondolin as ‘fair cities’. He clearly uses it as a synonym for ‘beautiful,’ ‘handsome,’ and/or ‘well-formed’. ‘Pleasing to the eye’. I think only in Aredhel’s case does ‘fair’ specifically denote pale/r skin.
There IS a specific footnote relevant to us here; the glossary entry for “Vanyar” notes that the word literally means “‘the Fair,’ referring to the golden hair of the Vanyar.” (448) But again - Celegorm can’t have golden hair; least of all because none of his ancestors do. So again, ‘fair’ does not necessarily denote blondness.
Now, if we only paid attention to the published Silm, we’d run into problems - namely, that very few characters’ hair colors are given. For example - Miriel and Finwe don’t have hair colors listed in this book. Upon Indis’ introduction, she is described as “golden-haired and tall, and in all ways unlike Miriel.“ (71) This perhaps implies that Miriel is dark-haired and short, and crabby and stays inside all the time (relatable). Some artists read this and stopped here - Jenny Dolfen of goldseven, for example, drew Miriel with dark hair.)
But if we expand into the Histories of Middle-Earth series, which is based upon the rest of Jirt’s notes and drafts….we get quite a bit more. And listen, Gil-Galad can be the scion of both Fingon and Orodreth, you’re clearly just not thinking creatively enough.
I’ll be the first to admit that fanon and fanart often distort my own view of characters and make me forget what was actually written. (Example: Elrond & Elros and Elured & Elurín, as far as I can see, are never actually described in-text as twins - only brothers.)
So what do we have?
Finwë: “He had black hair, but brilliant grey-blue eyes.” (PoME, 357).Miriel: “Silver was her hair and dark were her eyes” (Morgoth’s Ring, 185).Fëanor: "fair of face, his eyes piercingly bright and his hair raven-dark.”(Silm, 70)Maedhros: “inherited the rare red-brown hair of Neranel’s kin…’copper-top’.” (PoME 353) A note about Mahtan says that his hair was brown “and had glints of coppery-red in it.” (366)Maglor: Nothing. (Tolkien Gateway lists his hair as ‘dark’ and provides no footnotes.)Celegorm: Nothing.Caranthir: “he was black-haired as his grandfather” (PoME 353). “he was dark (brown) haired, but had the ruddy complexion of his mother.” (353) [These contradict each other; given that brown hair is never discussed among the high Eldar, the black seems more likely. The parentheses may be Christopher Tolkien’s attempt at interpreting a weird note.]Curufin: “resembled Feanor very much in face” (PoME 352) and his name Atarinke was “referring to his physical likeness to Fëanor.” (PoME 353). No hair color is actually specified.Ambarussa: "inherited the rare red-brown hair of Neranel’s kin…” (PoME 353) “The two twins were red-haired…The twins remained alike, but the elder grew darker in hair…After childhood, they were not to be confused.” (PoME 355)Celebrimbor: Nothing.

So, overall: because of Tolkien’s precedent for using that descriptor to indicate a beautiful face rather than light hair, it’s more likely that Celegorm doesn’t have silver hair. But you know what? IT’S GORGEOUS AND I LOVE IT AND MIRIEL DESERVES TO BE REPRESENTED.
God I wish I still drew. I have the sudden urge to draw every Fëanorian previously depicted as black-haired with silver hair instead. Fëanor has it. Maglor has it. Celegorm, Caranthir, and Curufin all have it. In the end, Celebrimbor gets it too, and makes many a Sinda do a double-take.

Because, yes I love fanfictions and the fandom, but sometimes I felt ASHAMED of preferring Dick because of how the fandom made him looks. When there where comics pages and stuff, there were always only the part where the fans were mad at. Not the whole situations and stuff and I felt so many times bad for relating to such a despicable character, you know ?
I’m only copy pasting this part of your reply to save time, but yeah, fanon can be fucking insidious, especially for people who get into the Batfam fandom from movies and cartoons and never read the comics, like yourself. I fully believe a ton of the hate Dick got after Spyral was because a lot of people literally just haven’t read Nightwing #30, because they don’t read Nightwing....and so they just took peoples’ word for it when fic writers acted like that had never happened and just heaped blame on Dick, and followed suit themselves with their own fics.
And it sucks. And I hate it, lol.
One of the other biggest fandom myths, of course, that I rant endlessly about lol, is that Dick was a jerk to Jason when Jason was Robin. Literally DID NOT HAPPEN. There’s a page and a half the very first time they meet after Jason’s retconned origin, where Dick grabs Jason by the arm and gives him grief for ruining a drug lab bust he’d been working on because Jason went in before there was any evidence Dick could use to put them away....and that’s it. That’s the grand total of any and every time Dick was any kind of a jerk to Jason while he was Robin...and that very issue ended with Dick giving Jason his own old Robin costume and his phone number as well as advice that was pretty solidly in the big brother kinda way or at least the early stages of heading there.
And people act like that’s the only time they ever interacted, like they couldn’t possibly have had good interactions offpage after that....even while happily inventing months worth of conflict between Dick and Jason where Dick was an asshole to him and resented him and gave him shit constantly or else just kept his distance and made no attempt to reach out. And on top of that, there’s this idea that people hold against Dick too, that the other Titans were jerks to Jason when he teamed up with them, because of Dick....again. Didn’t happen. The stories where Jason teamed up with the Titans happened before his retconned origin (but are still in continuity, as they’ve been referenced many times since Batman #412).....
And so like pretty much every other interaction Dick and Jason had before they met again for the first time in Batman #416 (which was a FLASHBACK issue, opening with the words “one year ago” thus meant to allow for all these other stories...and Dick and Jay interactions....to still have taken place after Jason’s new origin)....
Like, Dick and Jason thus had a GREAT relationship then, with zero conflict, because they all happened in the continuity where Dick had made Jason Robin himself. Those stories people cite where the other Titans were jerks to Jason because he wasn’t Dick....nope. Jason teamed up with them on a mission while Dick wasn’t around because he’d been captured on a solo op.....and Donna kept trying to defer to Jason or look to him to make a plan, because she was so used to it being Dick in the Robin costume, it seemed instinctive to expect a Robin to know what to do...and Jason called her on it, but without being an asshole or even MAD about it...and just said look, you can’t expect me to know what to do here just because I’m Robin because I’m not Dick and don’t have the experience you guys do, you’re the leader, you need to tell us what to do. And Donna apologized to him and said he was right.
That was it! That’s the source of the supposed ‘the Titans were mean to Jason because he wasn’t Dick’ myth. And on and on it goes.
The one that personally bugs the crap out of me the most, as its SO deliberate and odious, is how people have made this one fight between Dick and Donna back in the 80s widespread through fandom, as something that’s referenced as proof of what a cruel temper Dick can have. Because he says some admittedly shitty stuff to her in the panels that are usually presented to show that scene. But this is so WILLFUL, because to even save that page from some source, you have to go between the other pages of the fight they had, since its literally in the middle of it....and thus anyone who first used that page to show how awful Dick can be, had to also know DAMN WELL that:
A) Donna started that fight and ignored Dick’s repeated attempts to leave and not have this argument right then and there, as he KNEW he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to have it without saying stuff they’d both regret, he pretty much SAID THIS, flat out, BEFORE that page where he says those things to Donna....and Donna physically pushes him back when he tries to walk past her and leave, she’s the one who INSISTS on having it right there and then. B) Donna said messed up shit to Dick too, C) Donna then proceeded to punch Dick THROUGH A WALL, and D) and it all ended with Dick STILL exiting at the first chance he got, all without ever making any attempt to be physical with Donna or respond in kind after she escalated it. And oh yeah, E) this issue led straight into the storyline where Dick was captured again by the Church of Blood and it was revealed his outbursts over the past year were the direct result of him unknowingly battling the brainwashing they’d subjected him to the LAST time they captured him.....like, it was a literal, actual story plot point, that Dick’s ‘temper’ and him lashing out at his friends and loved ones over the past few arcs....were because he was battling mind control the whole time.
And there’s not a single mention of ANY of that for context in ANY thread or post I’ve ever seen use that one page cut out of the middle of Dick and Donna’s fight in the 80s. And I’ve seen it come up A LOT.
So that one more than even any of the others just gets under my skin in such a big way, because its so obviously deliberate. Like, there’s no way to read the full scene, let alone the full storyline, and really think that Dick’s this temper tantrum throwing asshole who has no excuse for being so horrible to his friend Donna, who meanwhile, doesn’t even rate an honorable mention for PUNCHING HIM THROUGH A WALL OF HIS OWN APARTMENT.
Like, I hate that scene, but because of how DONNA is written in it. At least there was an actual narrative REASON for Dick’s behavior. But anyone who likes Dick and has actually read that issue is so busy trying to get people to lay off him for it, who even has a chance to get around to criticizing Donna’s writing in it? LOL.
There is literally no way in hell you can reference that scene, if you’ve read the full thing, and try and frame it as an excuse to vilify Dick for his temper....so the fact that someone at some point made a point to lift the only ONE page out of the entire five or six pages of their fight, like, the literal only page that can be said to look like Dick’s the aggressor and Donna’s the helpless victim of his furious temper.....
That was deliberate, and definitely done to make him look bad and for NO other reason. So that one, more than any other, irritates the FUCK out of me when it comes to fanon and is cited as proof of what a horrible temper he can have at times.

I recently just passed my driving test and a know car insurance isnt cheap. The cheapest i have been quoted is a little under 5000 on a 1.2 Vauxhal Corsa. have a few issues I could really use some help with. The family car that I have been driving wasn't in my name but I was still covered on the insurance until one day I hit a mailbox with the passenger side mirror. The mailbox did not sustain any damage but the mirror somewhat did. I didn't call the police when it happened since the damage was extremely minimal. Anyways, then a couple weeks later a different family member (not the owner) had a little bit of a bigger accident when an animal suddenly appeared in front of the car forcing another accident. I have not had an accident in over 12 years but since I was mentioned after that second accident, I was also excluded from the insurance policy for that vehicle. The insurance cost is something like $158.00 per month but now they want the owner to add about $50 or $60 more per month EACH for the 2 people that were excluded because of the accidents.The car payment is about $415.00 per month and the insurance was $158.00 per month for just the owned which does not even drive the car at all but now they want an extra hundred per month for those 2 excluded drivers if they want to drive that car. I filed a claim with USAA on September 5th on a hit and run accident in which the police were able to find the person and get his insurance. He called them and said he didn't do it - and I hit him. I called, gave my side of the story and the number of the police who were handling the accident. They always say they will call me back and they don't - so I call them in which they give me another date they will get back to me. They never ONCE have gotten back to me. The policy holder who hit me is now in jail on an unrelated offense and they say they cannot get his statements - duh. They say they will contact the police and get back to me - but they never have. The damage to the car isn't that much - it is $416 (just a headlight) but I cannot afford to pay for it. Putting it through my insurance is dumb because the deductable is $500 - at least I think that is how it works. Could you give me advice on how to deal with USAA? I can't talk to them on the weekends because they say they can't handle my existing claim. I'm getting REALLY frustrated.""

I was in a car accident 4 days ago. My Mother was the passenger in my car (I was driving). I was on the off ramp getting off the freeway. All cars behind me were stopped. I was stopped waiting to make a right turn. An emergency vehicle was coming in my direction from my left. Therefore, I was waiting for the emergency vehicle to pass. The person behind me (large dodge ram truck I am in an '08 2 door Infiniti coupe) thought I went so he 'gunned it' to get in front of the emergency vehicle. Unfortunately, we had not gone so he pushed my vehicle out in front of the emergency vehicle. Luckily, I was able to turn my car out of the way. I did not hit anyone (no one was in front of me). My Mother and I were both put into a gurney and taken to a local hospital in an ambulance. We both had our seat belts on and suffered whiplash. We were released 5-6 hours later after x-rays, etc. We were both prescribed medicine. My Mother has had 3 brain tumors and has trouble with her speech etc. and any violent startling trauma can get her shaken up pretty badly and confused. I know she hit her head but, she is in pain but not nearly as much as I am. With my Mother's condition I don't know if this kind of thing can have negative effects later on. I know that my neck and back is pretty messed up. It hurts to stand for after 15 minutes or so. My car is pretty messed up and had to be towed. I plan on taking it back to the Infiniti shop to get all new parts. My car has all the upgrades in it so I want it to be taken care of. Am I allowed to take it to the Infiniti dealership or will Geico (the other persons insurance) not allow that, or does it not matter? The police gave the guy that hit us a citation. I have USAA and the other person has Geico. I just want to know exactly what to do in this situation. Since I'm out a car (I work for myself) I have been out (already) a decent amount of money for not being able to meet up with my clients. I spoke to my insurance today and they said that all my medical is covered since I had that already in my plan (without it raising my premium) and that I should get a settlement ON TOP of paying for damages to my car and getting me a rental, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I need help choosing my first car. Mustang vs Mustang vs MINI?
I will be buying my first car soon and I have a few choices to pick from. I'll have to pay for everything myself (insurance, fuel, maintenance, etc.). I'm trying to narrow my choices by choosing between a 2005 Mustang v6 (has 50k miles and is an auto :c) and a 2004 Mustang v6 (has 80K miles and is a manual c:). I found both of these cars at an auction site I'll be going to with my father next week (he's mechanically inclined lol truck driver) and I'm nervous since it's likely I won't be able to check for many issues other then auto check. I don't need much power so I don't mind having a v6 (because I'll work my way up to the newer models heh heh heh). Anyway, which should I choose should I decide to get a Mustang? I filed a claim with USAA on September 5th on a hit and run accident in which the police were able to find the person and get his insurance. He called them and said he didn't do it - and I hit him. I reserved a rental car in California with Enterprise. The price was $9.99/day because of a weekend deal . When I checked in at the counter the agent told me that I needed to either provide proof of FULL COVERAGE insurance or purchase their insurance (which would raise my daily rate from $9.99 to $40)!! I was really sold on the s2000 because its 4 cylinders naturally aspirated (cheap on gas), a convertible, and relatively pretty. All of this was great news, until I saw how much insurance would be for this car. Lets look at the facts for these cars s2000: 2 door convertible 237hp/153lbft RWD 2 Liter N/A 4 cylinder top speed: 155 0-60: 5.5 - 6 seconds m5: 4 door Hardtop 394hp - I don't know the torque RWD 4.9 liter Naturally Aspirated v8 top speed: ~180 mph / 155 mph with limiter 0-60: 4.7-5 seconds s4: 4 door Hardtop 261HP/I do not know the torque AWD 2.7 Liter Twin Turbo v6 top speed: do not know/ limited to 155mph 0-60: 5.5 seconds I know that the small size of the car may make the s2000 unsafe, but the m5 is much more of a car than the s2000, and in my opinion much, MUCH more unsafe than the s2000. The s2000 is a sports car, but what is the m5 then, a 4 door family car? It is much more than that. High performance sports car in my opinion would be much more apropriate. I originally had State Farm and was paying $232 for a Hyndai Tiburon, had a traffic accident for, Improper Lane Change, the other person did not file a claim, had to spend $500 to get my car fixed and $89 on municipal court fees. LOL sorry not sorry, I don’t care how annoying or repetitive it makes me sound, when it comes to Dick and Jason’s relationship when they were younger, I am a broken record on eternal repeat and can’t stop won’t stop.
Like, if there’s an even slightly tangential place for me to reference “bee tee dubs, Dick didn’t hate Jason, there is literally no canon of that, Dick was literally written making a point to put aside his resentment towards Bruce for Jason’s sake. After Jason’s origin was rebooted to the stealing the tires story, and his first encounter with Dick being rebooted to the druglab teamup, Dick made a point to give him his blessing and Robin costume and phone number and offer of being there so Jason could have a family relationship that didn’t depend on Bruce, had nothing to do with Bruce, like he literally stood there and gave him advice about how he knows how Bruce is better than anyone, and that not talking about stuff is Bruce’s problem but that doesn’t mean Jason had to make it his, so gimme a call whenever Bruce is being a pain - and yet even in fanfics that reference this exact story and even the part about Dick giving him his phone number, they all go on to write about how Jason tried calling but Dick never picked up, because yeah like it really matches ANY characterization of Dick Grayson to say he already went to the effort of extending that hand to his replacement only to then just end up ghosting the kid, please.
Even Bruce recognized all that as an actual effort on Dick’s part, with the last panel of that issue being Creeper!Batdad spying on his two boys bonding together and saying “Thank you, Dick” even though neither of them could hear it. And just like the Nightwing: Year One retcon that revised yet again the specifics of how Dick was fired, became Nightwing, Jason was taken in and made Robin, and Dick and Jason met for the first time (and ended the story yet again on good terms, like they were literally teasing each other)....like these stories only retconned the hows and whens of Jason becoming Robin and Dick becoming Nightwing and how they first met. And they were flashbacks. Because Jason’s rebooted origin story was written fourteen issues before the issue he died.
There wasn’t time to chronologically show any other interactions between Dick and Jason in that short a time frame, especially when the next Titans story took Dick offworld until after Jason had already died. So unless you wanna go with the idea that Jason actually at most was Robin for a few months and ignore every other story with him as Robin that was then just supposed to be read as being set after Batman #416/Nightwing: Year One.....its made fairly clear that even without us being actually shown on panel the first time Jason called Dick or Dick reached out to him again, whichever it was....I mean, one of those two definitely happened. Because otherwise you’re suggesting that Batman #416 or Nightwing: Year One were literally the ONLY times Jason and Dick even interacted, period.....because that’s the timeline.
Every which way you look at New Earth continuity, those issues were of Dick and Jason’s FIRST encounter, and so saying this never led to any kind of bonding between them after that because Dick didn’t pick up or Jason died before he could use the number....like, it basically implies that Dick and Jason only met once the entire time Jason lived with Bruce and was Robin, and has there ever been any interaction between them after Under The Red Hood that suggests these are two guys who literally only met ONCE and once only, and only knew each other by reputation before that?
Nope. Because the issues that have them interacting as brothers are all still canon, the events within them are canon, and thus that relationship between them is canon. They’re just supposed to be read as having happened AFTER Dick and Jason met in the new retconned ways of Batman #416 or Nightwing: Year One....hence why the former opened with the caption: One Year Ago, and the latter was similarly just meant to retcon the specifics of their first meeting.
But it literally doesn’t work to acknowledge Jason saying to Tim that he was a Titan too once, in reference to the two stories he teamed up with them, and then act like the parts where Dick was the complete and total opposite of an aloof, bitter asshole to him just....somehow got cut out of that story.
Its literally only fanfic that insisted on that interpretation of Dick and Jason pre-Death in the Family, (well, at least before someone told Scott Lobdell about it, I’d guess, lol, because like....I bet more than anything he just heard that fanon take and figured it made sense and ran with it because he thinks the only way for Jason to be a bad ass is if he’s hard and broody and isolated and alone, and he obviously can’t be that if his family like, loves him lfashiofhalfsh, don’t be ridiculous.”)
Anyway. Its not like I feel like everyone needs to be a Dick Grayson fan or agree he’s the best Robin or most important or even feel a need to make comparisons or rank the brothers at all.....but given that the experience of seeing a character you relate to be condemned for shit they didn’t do or unappreciated for stuff they did do IS such a hugely relatable experience and that’s WHY its such a huge fanfic trope......like, that one particular thing is always gonna be the thing in Batfamily fandom that always just makes me RAAAAAH with thwarted rage over my inability to make a mind ray gizmo that makes everyone share my opinions and nobody else’s. Knew I should have paid more fucking attention it science class.
You can write dynamics and characters any way you want, nobody’s saying you can’t, but just....when you then make a point to use actual canon to back up your takes on Jason and Tim, but revert to this fanon in order to prop up the two of them as misunderstood and unappreciated by Dick and thus they’re totally right to view his attempts to hug them or express affection as him overcompensating and feeling guilty about being an asshole before....like...
Bah. Its just really annoying to consistently see the one and only character in the Batfamily who makes a point to regularly express affection for his family and his desire for them to be more like a family....like, rewritten as this pompous douchebag that has never understood them and that’s why they’re totally justified in being written as treating him (who btw, a shit ton of his fans DO like and relate to and project upon due to his being a canon rape survivor)...like when they end up treating his attempts to show physical affection in stories like its a VIOLATION that they want no part of and he’s yet even more of an asshole for never getting this.....when there’s over a decade of comics full of Dick physically showing his affection for Tim and Tim very much appreciating it....just like Dick did the same with Jason when he was Robin, and Jason, again, was shown appreciating it, not treating it as a refusal to respect his boundaries.
That more than anything is what bugs.
Anyway. LOL. Yeah wtf, this is literally just me thinking out loud as usual, and I stg the actual inception of this post was just me rereading TNTT #31 again today and then immediately after going to read some fic which was a Mistake as winning bingo and getting three fics in a row with a line about how like....Jason resents Dick trying to hug him on his birthday because its clear to him Dick is just overcompensating for having been an asshole to him when they were younger and like....sigh. Epic, eternal forever sigh. Oh, fandom. Why. Whyyyyyyyy.
I just....I defy anyone to look at this scan and tell me how they see anything remotely along the lines of Dick resenting Jason for replacing him and being an asshole to him because of it or at least just aloof, and Jason resenting Dick because he was aware of this and never got the approval or recognition from Dick that he wanted and needed. And again, whenever you offhandedly reference Jason having been a Titan in pre-Reboot continuity....this is what you’re referencing, meaning you’re literally saying that THIS happened every bit as much as Batman #416.
(Btw, the trouble Dick references as Jason and the Titans bailing him out of, was them rescuing him from being kidnapped and brainwashed yet again by the Church of Blood, and it revealed that they’d secretly been controlling him for over a year before that. So....its in the actual literal aftermath of THAT, that Dick offers to take the fall with Bruce to keep Jason out of trouble, and selling all that as though it was Dick’s fault. Which....sounds like pretty consistent Dick Grayson characterization to me...just saying).
