Honestly knowing how to brush my curl had given me so much variety and brings me back to the vintage waves I missed! Second photo was wash, styled, and diffused second day hair which became these waves 🌊 Also loving this method on my damage curls as it hide a lot of the damaged curl pattern from the whole DC situation and gives me more length than my natural shrinkage. These pictures are exactly one year apart to the day. I distinctly remember taking the picture on the left (Jan 6, 2018 to be exact) and thinking this was legitimately a good hair day because I had what resembled a close replication of my actual curl pattern after sleeping in braids over night. That was the only way I was able to even get my hair to looks somewhat, kinda but not really close to my natural curl pattern without causing any further damage to it. I loved, I mean LOVED my hair color (even as it faded) so much so that I was willing to damage my hair immensely to get to that color. But my number one issue always was, “I love the color but I miss my curls.” A lot can change in one year it would seem and I’m over the moon with how well my hair has bounced back since August 2018. Can’t wait to see what 2019 bring to my hair, my health and my family. Last year was one of the most difficult years I’ve ever had physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and hair-wise also since my visits to @augurysalon @prismatic_victory lessened so I could learn to take care of my hair naturally sans hair color. I do miss my hair family and my rainbow colors (I know, I know..... never satisfied, but a girl can be nostalgic!) but it’s been such a healing journey learning to take care of myself mentally/physically/emotionally and embracing my natural self, curly hair and all. Changed up the hair products I’ve been using to get the look on the right. These are the products I started my curl journey with. @auntjackiescurlsandcoils which are #curlgirl approved. I really enjoyed these products at the end of summer into the beginning of winter (sept to end of November) with the big hit with me and all the kids being the Knot on my Watch instant detangler and Quench Moisture Leave In Conditioner. My personal favorite for me and my other curly girl in the house (kiddo numero 3) the Curl Mane-tenance Defining curl whip and the Soft All Over Multi Purpose oil for #sotc once I everything was dried and set. The Don’t Shrink Elongating Curl Gel was a keeper for those warmer times, but because of the high Glycerin content (it’s the second ingredient on the list) it makes it a no go in these colder temperatures for my hair specifically. I switched up the products this past week, with two different gels, a different leave in and shampoo/conditioner. I originally started with the @suavebeauty Naturals line, but upon learning that they test on animals, I switched it up for a more ethically made brand. I’m grateful for the product in the meantime, but I definitely think #Suave should consider going cruelty free. Thoughts? In the meantime I’ll try out the new products and let you guys know thought and opinions. For @auntjackiescurlsandcoils I would give them a solid 9/10, with the mark down simply being that the products don’t transition well between seasons or more so the gel didn’t.
