28 Days BJYX Challenge
Day 25: Most Touching BJYX Moment
Got reminded of this after watching the OOL bts of the crewing singing GG's favourite Kepler on his birthday. So..back to the challenge!
One of my favourite bts of all time is the Kepler-Nanhai duet. I don't know what you guys feel when you see the clip but to me, I see a strong connection. There's just something so magical about the moment.
Imagine being in the middle of a noisy film set full of people and movement. People fussing over your hair and makeup. All of a sudden, your eyes meet. One party starts singing and the other party seamlessly joins in with another song at the right moment. The song continues; it's a love song. And the eye contact never broke until the singer stopped singing.
If it was a movie, I imagine in that instant, everyone else would be blurred out or disappear. The air goes still, all sounds muted except the singing. Just the two of them in one shared space, eyes locked and sharing a love song.
I know I know, I'm dramatising things. Some might even call me delulu but I'm just describing the scene I saw when looking at the clip. I really do see the connection and how in sync both parties are, how attentive the piggie must be to be able to join in the singing at that juncture. Seriously, who locks eyes with a co-worker/good friend/bro while singing a love song. Wouldn't it be awkward?!
I also want to add that the version of kepler that GG sang in the clip isn't the original lyrics. The audio is quite poor but it sounded a little like the mish-mashed version he sung during the Nanjing fan meet? Don't quote me on that though.
Also, this isn't exactly a moment; in fact it's just cpn but I was really touched by the birthday message posted on YBO that someone wrote to DD on his birthday. That letter was just so intimate, so heartfelt that I really struggle to see how it could have been written by an employee. Especially the last part where the author asked DD to grow up slowly. I have to say, whoever wrote it, really loves the little piggie.

Wrapping up the #28daysBJYXchallenge
I’m a copycat, what can I say. Just like GG and DD who have their wrap up posts, I thought I would do one as well.
Looking back at it and re-reading my responses, I feel kind of proud that I managed to complete this and do daily posts, without fail, for 28 straight days.
So to the ‘me’ who wrote the Prelude a month ago, you were right! There were days that indeed were too difficult, and for some, it would’ve just been easier to give it a pass. But I’m glad that you managed to stick to it and you didn’t skip a day or chose not to answer any of the challenges. Congratulations to you for completing the ‘21 edition of #28daysBJYXChallenge
To the future ‘me’ who will re-read these responses, don’t be so hard on yourself in case you find yourself giving a different response. Maybe you’ve found a different answer, or some new development on their story, go ahead and add that.

Stumbled upon this via @p-h03n1-x and @theji. As a new
🐢 I thought this would be a good exercise to put my thoughts in some sort of order (well, as much as I can when it comes to these 2 anyway). This will definitely take more than 28 days, but first, a Day 00 on why I made this blog and my experience with RPS and fandoms.
In the words of The Temptations: 🎶 and it was just my imagination. Running away with meeee 🎶 NOTHING IS REAL HERE.
I literally made this Tumblr a few days ago, and prior to this I haven’t touched Tumblr in ages. I’ve been lurking around the Wangxian community on the birb site, but I find there’s not much of a ‘community’ per se. It was only when I clicked a link to a BJYX tumblr site where I realized how much analysis was going on. Next thing I know its 2am and just touched the surface of what’s been going down after CQL ended.
My History with RPF/RPS
None. I’ve always felt a bit uncomfortable shipping real people. I think the closest I’ve ever come to was Destiel in Supernatural and even then I knew Misha Collins had a partner and a kid while Jensen was in a relationship too. I just loved their friendship and fan service they gave during cons, but I was definitely leaning on shipping the characters and just cackling over the actors’ antics.
Like some 🐢 here, I initially felt RPS was just projecting whatever feelings I had from the fictional characters to the actors. I’m ashamed to admit this, but for queer RPS I would tell myself ‘there’s no way because what are the chances of them being queer?’ I had heteronormativity in the brain (and I’m QUEER. How sad is that??). And then I watched The Untamed.
C-Ent who dis?
As a geek and someone who worked in the entertainment industry in the U.S. I understand fandom culture. As such I love learning about the industry just as much as participating in the fandoms that spawn from it. I’m going to preface that prior to CQL I had no knowledge of the Chinese entertainment industry or anything related to Chinese pop culture besides the many kung-fu (is that even the right term to use? Should I use wuxia?) movies I grew up watching. I hope to learn a lot more about the C-Ent industry through this community.
I watched The Untamed in the summer 2020 and I immediately read the novel (woah) and devoured any fanfic/art pertaining to Wangxian. Of course, after a while I was soon recommended to watching BTS footage of the cast.
I was shook.
Me vs. Hetero-Troll Or..How I Was in Denial
My queerdar went off the bat when watching GG and DD together, particularly DD, but of course my subconscious heteronormative-thinking ass was thinking ‘pah, can’t be. Fan service. Gotta promote the show right? ‘Look how we get along! We hit each other (like bros!), tease one another about our so-called big age gap (like bros!), give...intense, longer-than-usual stares at one another and...touch each other a bit longer than usual and often...very often.. like bros (??) BUT NO. It. Is. Fan service. Gotta be. *insert slap meme*
Well, says the hetero troll in me, doesn’t matter now. The show’s been over since 2019, its 2020 GG and DD have moved on. As I mentioned earlier, I jumped in various social media getting any CQL-related morsels I could, then thanks to @rainbowsky ‘s recommendation list I started watching Xiaoman M’s videos on YT.
It was here the hetero-troll died a fiery death in the Burial Mounds and hasn’t come back since.
Now
I don’t think my obsession totally sane amount of support of this RPS would exist if it weren’t for my admiration of these two talented men and my wish for them to be successful and happy and if that means being happy together that’s for me to chomp candy on If you’re still here reading this, thanks! I don’t know how much I can contribute to the turtle community (lack of language proficiency and Weibo is intimidating af), but I’d love to add on my humble love and support over these 2 amazing, talented, okay and beautiful artists with you all. 💖

28 Days BJYX Challenge
Day 24: Funniest BJYX Moment
My new goal is to finish this challenge by the end of the month year. Let's go!
Put the two of them together and chaos usually ensue. I don't exactly have one top moment cos they are often very funny together but here are some of my favourite GGDD moments.
1) Happy Camp
The whole episode is a gem (seriously, go watch it if you haven't already) but one of the best and funniest moments was when they had a face-off (ard 27:00) during the first game, and DD just shouting ''ahhhhh'' for damn long, and GG was just rattling off the answers.
2) Sina interview
I love the whole interview but this particular segment at 13:00 always makes me laugh. The interviewer was asking DD if he now dares to sleep alone with the lights switched off. While DD was trying to answer the question (very seriously in a cute manner), gremlim GG kept annoying and interrupting him, to the point where DD had to ask him to shut up twice. Will we ever see GGDD behaving so candidly in interviews again?
I don't know why antis like to use the last part of this interview as supporting evidence against SZD. It's obvious from their interaction here that they are very very comfortable with each other. Who would dare to keep annoying their co-worker during an actual work interview, and who would ask their co-worker to shut up multiple times and call them mental in the middle of an interview.

28 Days BJYX Challenge
Day 19: Favourite line by XZ
GG is a very eloquent and wise man. I am always amazed by his maturity and alternate take on certain things, his perspectives. Many of his quotes are pretty memorable, like the one on waiting.
Here are two of my favourites
哪怕是房梁和屋檐把生活压得再低 但是我觉得还是有另外一片天空的希望。
Even if the beams and eaves have pushed life to the bottom, I think there is still hope for another piece of sky (despite the hardships and challenges life throws at you, even if you hit your lowest point, another path will open up if you don't lose hope.)
He said this during one of the CQL concerts, when the cast had to share the significance behind some of their personal photos. This was the photo GG provided. What he's trying to convey isn't new, but I thought he expressed it beautifully with the roof analogy and artful shot.
可能大家平常看到外表谈吐，对我印象比较文静内向，但是我想让大家看到其实我的内心就像竹子一样坚韧刚烈。
Maybe from my appearance and mannerisms, the impression that people have of me is that I'm quiet and introverted but I want everyone to see that my heart is as sturdy and tough as bamboo.
GG said this when he was a guest on CCTV's Everlasting Classics, after he sang the soft rock version of Bamboo on The Rocks. He was explaining why he chose Bamboo as the theme for his performance. I wrote a little about the meaning behind the song here.
The programme aired in Jan 2020 (not sure exactly when it was recorded) and we all know what happened in Feb. I think what touched me the most when I re-watch this clip is that GG really is the man that he said he is, tough and resilient, just like his favourite bamboo. He's not making a PR statement for the sake of the programme. He doesn't need to prove anything but he has shown us through his actions that he is strong, intelligent, capable and more.
Again, on this note, I want to emphasise that GG is a grown man with a successful career and vast life experiences. He knows his stuff and needs no protection or baby-ing. Next time something or some new drama happens again (it will), let's not worry too much or rush to defend him and just have faith in him. Remember his words.

Day 23: BJYX Moment that makes you smile most
Honestly, every moment. All their interviews and interactions, the bts. And actually it's not just BJYX. Basically watching either GG or DD or both together makes me happy.
But if I were to choose one, I would go with the Trash Sorting song they sang at the end of the Happy Camp episode.
It's a kiddy song about sorting rubbish, recycling, performed with bunch of kids. If any of them were to perform it alone, it would probably come across awkward. I know I would feel a bit embarrassed if I had to perform this on my own.
But no, when they do it together, it works. Watching them performing this kiddy song in all seriousness, with the occasional small smiles and glances at each other. Somehow it becomes a love duet. It becomes sweet. At least that's what it seems to me.
Wuji is still the best song ever, and I love their rendition of Laughter in the Sea, but this recycling song makes me smile the most. It warms my heart and I occasionally pull up this clip if I need a little mood booster.
And I hope we will be blessed with another duet of theirs in future.

Also, one of the recent moments that made me smile too was the birthday message that YBO posted on DD's birthday. You know, the one that is suspected to be penned by You Know Who? The super lengthy but heartfelt one? That made me smile, a different kind of smile. More like a little satisfied smile that also made me think at the same time: "Sigh..that someone loves him so much." 😌

28 Days BJYX Challenge
Day 10: Favourite BJYX Moment (outside CQL)
Without a doubt, this will forever be etched in my mind. The legendary 'smile that felled cities'.
I love any moment that GGDD are together. All the interviews, the bts etc. But my absolute favourite are the softer, more candid moments, moments that show them looking out for each other, because those really highlight their relationship dynamics. Moments like DD reminding GG to watch his step, GG clearing DD's seat so he wouldn't sit on random objects, DD alerting GG that his shoelaces have come loose, etc.
There was also a fleeting moment during the Tencent office livestream that stood out to me when I first watched it. GGDD were walking down a corridor. For context, earlier during the livestream with Zheng Fanxing, DD exclaimed aloud "You are mental" and GG made a shocked face. DD apologised immediately and covered his mouth. Personally for me I didn't think it was rude but perhaps in the culture over there, it's still considered not very good to allude to someone being (mentally) ill, especially not to colleagues or in front of the camera, hence GG's shocked expression.
DD: (softly) 大佬 (which translates to Boss/Big Guy)
GG leaning over: Mmm (in the most gentle tone, so naturally, as though that was what DD usually calls him in private) (CPN CPN)
DD: I said something wrong earlier.
GG: What did you say?
DD: ''You are mental''
GG: Aiyah that's not too bad...at least it's not that other one.
You can view the clip here. I find it endearing to see how much DD values his GG's opinions, and that GG tries his best to reassure DD. This little private exchange shows the mutual trust and respect they have for each other, the support they offer to each other, which goes beyond that of regular colleagues.
Another moment that I really love was during the Sina interview. As usual, they were complimenting each other.
GG: "Wang lao-shi is so mature and steady, even though he's a '97 little kid but he's able to pull off such a [couldn't catch what he said].....role. And then he's also athletic, knows skateboarding and skiing. What else do you know?
DD: Nothing else.
GG: He's good at dancing and rides the motorcycle very well. Perfect! The role model of the contemporary young men.
DD: 瞎胡吹 (something like exaggerating baselessly)
Throughout the exchange you can see DD obviously feeling pleased but embarrassed. He even had his head tilted down at one point. When he said 瞎胡吹, it was in such a gentle, soft tone. So very different from his usual reaction. This is Wang Yibo, who eats compliments for breakfast. Why is he suddenly so shy? I see pink bubbles all over the screen. Do you? 🥰

28 Day BJYX Challenge
Day 20: Favourite line by YB
Bringing this forward ahead of Day 19 because I thought it's quite apt to write about this on the 7th Anniversary of Bobo's debut. When I saw this topic, immediately two quotes came to mind:
21岁认定的事，我想就算到了81岁也还能坚持。
What I recognised at age 21, I think I can persist even at age 81.
Disregarding the cpn associated with this statement, this is him - persistent, passionate, never giving up. We see this attitude in how he approaches his work and personal interests. From putting in long hours and hard work into becoming a better actor and dancer, in training to become a professional motorcycle racer, to shelling out extra time amidst his busy schedule to work on his personal interests like skateboarding and magic tricks. He gives his all in everything he does and he really wants to get better at them. He's not just there for the ride.
And this. 我能吃苦 I can endure hardships. This was part of Yibo's response to Chinese Olympic table tennis player and fellow Henan-born Deng Yaping when she urged him to try out for the new Breakdancing category in the coming 2024 Paris Olympics.
A very simple but powerful statement. It's one thing to recognise/feel that you can take hardships or to hear it from someone else, but it's another thing to declare out loud like this, but not in a bragging way. I think it says a lot about his inner strength, humble nature and conviction.
Yibo has said many things in past interviews that really showed his maturity and self awareness. However, I think these two quotes encapsulate the very essence of WYB - fiercely determined, passionate, firmly grounded, unwaveringly focused.
He may be young but the boy has gone through a lot in the last decade. These are experiences that helped to shape him into the person he is today and gave us the WYB that we all adore. He has said before that the greatest gift that time has bestowed upon him is age. And I agree. He is slowly blossoming from a young seedling to a sturdy plant and I look forward to seeing what kind of flower we'll get when the plant blooms.
I hope that Yibo can continue to shine brightly and become more polished at his craft; at the same time retain his childlike inner world and never lose that pure heart of his.

Day 21 and 22: Favourite XZ/YB Meme
Collapsing these two challenges into one post just because....My goal is to complete this challenge by the end of the month. Think I can do it?
WYB is the King of Meme. I mean..just look at the number of cute/funny expressions he has from a single episode of TTXS or SDOC. One of my recent fav is this, cos it's sooo versatile.
I don't understand why do they call me a pig?
Huh it's so obvious. You mean they didn't catch the candy?
He doesn't know Zhan-ge and I are together?
Why did they take away all the coriander? I'm not done you know?
Let me tell you. Actually (insert gossip)
Can anyone guess what he was actually talking about in this scene?
(L) This is not really a meme but it could very well be. I've used it several times.
(R) I've seen this kind of edit on TTXS or Happy Camp too, can't remember. So it's not just the fans who make fun of his expression. He does like pursing his lips a lot.
As for GG, I really love the cutie Jian Guo memes that he used to post. Too bad he pretty much stopped doing that already. I also like those that showcase his dorky self.

Day 16: Favourite hairstyle of YB
King of changing hairstyles! Seriously he can carry off so many different styles and colours. Looking forward to seeing more of DD's SDOC looks. Surely they'll be boom!!

Day 17: Favourite outfit of XZ
Haha OK back to the challenge, although it has been 2 months since I started. Where did all the time go?
GG looks good in anything, even pyjamas (see Mendale ad). That said, my favourite GG looks tend towards the more smart casual/casual style. Nothing fancy. Because he doesn't need it.
Sweaters
Please wear green more often.
Hoodies
For the longest time my fav hoodie of GG was this sky blue piece but now the SMFK rose hoodie takes the top spot.
Leather jackets in general but he looks especially good in this bomber jacket.
All of his TODS looks are excellent. These two are my fav so far.
This look from his 2020 birthday photoshoot.
In terms of 'work' outfit, I quite like this on him. Not everyone can pull off this look with the pastel tones, soft flowy fabrics, floral semi shimmery shirt.
And finally, one of my all time fav looks. The TTXS outfit.

28 Days BJYX Challenge
Day 4: Saddest WangXian moment
The saddest WangXian moment, to me, isn't one that is necessarily the most emotional or tear jerking. I chose this farewell scene at the Burial Mounds, following their reunion after parting ways at Qiong Qi Way. At this point, through their conversations, it's obvious that WWX feels stuck in his current predicament. He's resigned to it but yet he doesn't regret his choices.
Here, WWX asks LWJ, matter-of-factly, if there's anyone who can offer him a alternate path, one that allows him to protect the people he wants to protect without having to turn to demonic cultivation or using the Yin iron. Between his obligations towards the Wen clan and his tarnished reputation as the Yiling Patriarch, he literally has no other options but to continue down his chosen path. Throughout this exchange, LWJ kept quiet. What could he have said though? He literally has no way of getting WWX out of this situation. At this point, he also doesn't know about the golden core and why WWX chose to forsake what he had before. LWJ is stuck too, trapped between his true feelings and everything that he has been brought up to believe.
Then we have a cute interruption in the form of Ah Yuan clinging onto LWJ's leg, wanting him to stay for dinner. You can tell that WWX wants him to stay, and LWJ wants to stay too but he can't. He has overstayed his welcome. As LWJ turned to leave, WWX explains to Ah Yuan that everyone has their own different things that they need to do. He utters the iconic line of choosing to go down the single plank bridge.
To me, it's a sad moment because of the words left unspoken. It's sad because this separation is inevitable; that they are soulmates trapped on opposite paths. It's sad because the preceding scenes of them having a meal together, acting like Ah Yuan's dads, WWX giving LWJ a house tour etc are so sweet. It's sad because LWJ knows he isn't supposed to look for WWX but he does so anyway, and thus has to go back after this trip to seek forgiveness from Uncle Qiren. It's sad because neither of them would expect that the next time they meet again, things would spiral out of control and that would be the last time they see each other (until 16 years later).

28 Days BJYX Challenge
Day 6: Favourite line in CQL
So many iconic lines from the drama series! There's no way I can only choose one so here goes my top 3.
1) This showdown scene at Nevernight where WWX was confronted by the angry mob who all wants to kill him and get a piece of the Yin iron. Random dude from unknown sect stepped forward to admonish WWX, saying that he once admired him. At this point, WWX has probably lost half his will to live. He feels misunderstood, maligned. XZ did so well in the Nevernight scenes. I remember really feeling heartbroken for him when I watched this scene, the despair, disappointment, anger, regret etc all clearly wrapped together in that instant.
"你的仰慕也太廉价了吧 Your admiration is so cheap
你的憎恶和仰慕都如此的廉价 Your hatred and admiration are all so cheap
怎么也好意思拿出来叫嚣 Aren't you ashamed to bring it up"
2) The punishment scene which occurred when LXC was recounting to WWX what LWJ went through after the events at Nevernight, and how he got the 33 scars on his back. This is, to me, one of the most powerful moments in the show. LWJ, a man of few words and almost devoid of emotions, actually spoke up against Uncle and questioned the Lan Sect's rules. Echoing the words that WWX once said to him. This hint of rebellion, with the realisation that not everything that he has been brought up to believe is the right thing. This is a pivotal moment in LWJ's character growth. From this moment on, from the moment his soulmate fell over the cliff, LWJ is a changed man, no longer bound by restrictions and reservations, so long as he follows the light of justice in his heart.
"敢问叔父，孰正孰邪，孰黑孰白"
"I dare ask you, Uncle. Who is right? Who is wrong? What is black? What is white?"
3) This raining scene after WWX and LWJ escaped from yet another angry mob at Jinlintai, after getting stabbed by Jin Ling. WWX recalling his interactions with LWJ in his previous life. Following the sweet 'confession' at the steps of Jinlintai, I guess this can be considered the moment where WWX finally acknowledged his feelings. He realises that the only one who has been by his side all along, through thick and thin, is LWJ.
"从前所有人都畏惧奉承我的时候，你是唯一一个骂我的人； 但是现在，所有人都巴不得我死，都恨我唾弃我的时候，你却是唯一一个站在我身边的人。"
"In the past when everyone feared me or tried to flatter me, you were the only one who admonished me. But now, when everyone couldn't wait for me to die, hating on me and casting me aside, you are the only one standing next to me."
