Hmm...most of the time she ends up with both, to be honest. I got Not a consolation prize an older fic, but there is no slow burn, only angst and she ends up with Dean.

I wrote so many fics I can't remember if I got one matching your description. 😱😂

I can't remember if I read a story from another author atm. Sorry, my brain doesn't work today.

Steve breaks up with reader because he has a chance to go back to Peggy, but when he gets there, he notice that the love he felt for Peggy was in his head and he goes back to reader.

The problem is, the relationship is not what it used to be, they are trying to overcome that chapter in their lives, but the reader is always held back, because she is scared that Steve will leave again, at some point she says to him "I love you, but part of me is always waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'm waiting for the moment you are going away again, the moment you find something new and exciting and will leave me here again " and Steve is doing everything he can to redeem himself and repair what he broke.
