“Now how did you get a plate before me? That’s just foul,” Hector said, sucking his teeth dramatically before calling out for his Mom. The list of people who Hector would actually bring into his family’s home was a very short one and mainly consisted of Chandler and Reed. He had come home to do his laundry and to steal a few things for his apartment, namely toilet paper because he was not trying to spend money on it. “Mami, you love him more than me? Be honest with me.” He was teasing though, laughing and chatting it up with his mother in Spanish before he finally got his food and joined Reed at the table. “Oye, princesa, go color over there, you’re gonna stain Mami’s table, okay, love you. Reed needs to eat.” 

He blew a kiss at his younger cousin who had been chatting Reed’s ear off before looking at his best friend finally. “You better finish that plate, you need some meat on them bones, papo,” he said and nudged him before he went in on his own plate, groaning at the taste of his mother’s rice and beans. “Damn I need this today. You working tonight? I was thinking we could watch a movie or something. I’m off this weekend and got way too much time on my hands. Never thought I’d see the day I actually want to be at the bar.”
