Public defenders of law who are pretty damn good at their job that got screwed over badly by their seniors so now the people in their profession look down upon them, meet a reckless young and hot criminal that instantly takes a liking to them and wants to give them everything they could've wished for, everything that their honest job never gave them, and they slowly start considering the offer, seduced by the power the lawless world gives them.

I also want to point out how whenever Gi Cheol mentioned he was gonna leave the gang & become a better person Junmo & his wife always had this immensely troubled & panic look on there faces. They needed him to remain who he was so they could end the investigation & be free. When Gi Cheol told Euijung in the car that he planned on becoming a better man for her & buying that land/complex was gonna prove it to her, her facial expression said it all. Lol i was like "Girl! React like a loving girlfriend would! He's gonna know something's up!" She couldn't smile or anything. He was so blinded by his love for her. I do feel sorry for him. That's just one of many scenarios that led me to believe neither Euijung nor Junmo really cared for Gi Cheol.

Maybe it's because I'm not a fangirl or because I didn't watch it w/a romantic filter over my eyes but I just don't understand or see the love & affection ppl say they saw between Euijung & Gicheol. I was actually surprised she could be so detached. Especially after she kept that matching necklace for so long. But you know, ppl change & reuniting w/the one that got away won't necessarily illicit those feelings you once had. It might actually solidify your feelings that you already have for someone else. She really gave me the impression that she loved her husband a lot. They could've easily made her conflicted or confused (as well as Junmo w/Haeryeon) & stretched the drama out but I'm glad they didn't go that direction.

Wi Ha Joon. I’m gonna need this man to make an NC-17 movie or something quick smart. How could you do this to us, writers??? What is this… The Devil Judge?!!! That ending… arghhhhhhghg (please excuse me while I mentally tear down the curtains, chew my pillow, and destroy my apartment due to sexual frustration! My hormones are throwing a tantrum, I’m sorry).

Sure the end suited the media. So? What about me?????? I mean… sure you have us grand gestures. You gave us murder! You gave us pining that is nothing short of top tier A grade pining! You gave us a million glances and excuses for touching and comfort and concern and even a few fleeting smiles…

But I wanted more.

Hands sweaty moms spaghetti, he is. Nervous wreck long before he actually works his way up to confessing. The thought of having a crush on you is enough to make him sweat.

Is he asking Adachi and Nanba for advice? Yes. Is he taking it? Hell nah, it just makes him more stressed. Feels like his head is spinning after hearing all they had to say.

In the end, he just quite literally spills the beans after hanging out with you and once he starts he just cannot seem to stop! Ironic given how hard it was for him to start in the first place.

Nanba Yu: "Hey, look, I get it if you don't feel the same way but I just wanted you to know... you're really special to me."

It's ironic that he gives Ichiban dating advice given that Nanba has been a bachelor for quite some time. He's also pretty calculated and takes into careful consideration whether or not a relationship would even be viable so if he's confessing, it's quite serious.

Might consult with Ichiban or Adachi about it but mostly keeps it close to his chest. Good at hiding it in front of you so it might feel like it's coming out of nowhere but trust me, it's been on his mind for a while.

He's pretty candid and straightforward. Through the years, he's learned beating around the bush gets you nowhere. He'll likely just pull you aside, no fancy date or hangout required, and just tell you privately how he feels.

Adachi Koichi: "You really changed my life, you know that? Thank you."

With Adachi, it's less of a confession and more of an appreciation of who you are. At his age and given his track record, he's kind of resigned to living the single life and the older he gets, the less he gets his hopes up for things to get serious.

Having said that, he does still want to stress just how impactful you've been on his life. Like Ichiban does with all his friends, Adachi feels you deserve your praises to be sung.

It's not something he really plans on. He'll just blurt it out in the middle of any old conversation, maybe at a bar. If you ask him for clarification or to elaborate, that's where he starts choking up. Be nice to him.

Mukoda Saeko: "Ah, you know I wouldn't normally say this but... I like you, heh."

Little miss independent will not confess easily, let me tell you. She's got an awful lot on her plate right now and potentially changing the situation between you two is not necessarily low priority but more so another thing she doesn't need to stress about.

Honestly, you may have to get her a bit drunk for this to come out. Or at the very least, she may feel she needs a touch of liquid courage to get it all out there.

Saeko keeps it short and sweet. Ironically, despite her bold personality, she gets super shy after and insists you don't give her an answer until you've had time to think it over.

Tianyou Zhao: "Ahh, you've really gone and turned my life upside down, you know? But that's okay. I like that about you."

Sly as ever, Zhao is similar to Saeko in that it takes a lot to get him to confess. Only difference is he's more perceptive than Saeko. He can sniff out pretty quick how you feel about him.

Having said that, chances of him confessing are greatly increased if he thinks or knows you would reciprocate. His playful side gets in the way though as it becomes a cat and mouse game of who gives in first: you or him.

When it eventually turns out to be him, it'll be a cute little planned event that he's meticulously thought out. He'll close his restaurant for the night and invite you over for a special private dinner with a menu inspired by all your favorite things.

Joon-Gi Han: "I don't know, I just... I always get this way when I'm with you... will you just stay with me? For a little bit?"

Our poor baby boy Joonie bun is inexperienced in the ways of confessing. He understands having a crush and love as a concept but lack of personal experience means he's navigating all new terrority. Please forgive his blunders.

Unfortunately, Seonhee proves to be little help in these matters. Although she has more in depth observations of situations between you two, even she cannot determine for Joon-Gi if reciprocation is guaranteed.

More likely than not, he'll just start blurting out his feelings during a moment where his guard is down. Half of it boils down to he just can't keep it to himself anymore and partially that he feels he's being dishonest the longer he keeps it to himself.

I know this is supposed to be an AngstyTM experience for all involved but frankly??? This should have been an action/romcom made in the 90s.

Break for The Worst of Evil spoilers:

The plot is so hilarious - going undercover so you can live up to your hotshot cop wife ONLY to find that the mafia don you’re spying on was your hotshot cop wife’s ex??? Who still loves her? And not only do you have to pretend it’s fine when it’s not, but you have to actively help him get your wife? And it’s your job to save his life which you’ve done several times so he’s imprinted on you like some kind of murderous duck?? How was this not the premise of a comedy starring Jung Woo-sung as a mafioso, Lee Jung-jae as the underachieving cop going undercover and Kim Hye-soo as the hotshot cop they’re both in love with?

(Things in Worst of Evil’s favour: Im Semi, who is really lovely; supporting actors like Im Seong-jae and Lee Shin-ki who elevate the joint. Ji Seung-hyun is also in this; his hair is doing the Lord’s work.

Also give it up for the scenes at Euijeong’s mama’s funeral, which should have played like a French farce but did not because everyone is taking this very seriously. The sheer comic value of Ji Chang-wook at his own mother-in-law’s funeral, his head lowered like no one would recognise him if he did that, and then almost getting outed by a random nephew! Said random nephew getting picked up by Ji Seung-hyun so their cover doesn’t get blown! Ji Seung-hyun’s face is in Euijeong’s papers as her husband, so now Wi Ha-joon is like ENEMY NO. 1 IS HERE! Wi Ha-joon getting into it with Eui-jeong and trying to be a comforting boyfriend, until Ji Seung-hyun walks over completely unnecessarily to get some dickswinging in! All of this while Ji Chang-wook watches! Two men! Fighting! Over his wife! How is this not a French farce?

me literally every time Ki Cheol and Jun Mo are less than three feet away from each other/interact in any way shape or form:

the worst sin about the worst of evil was its lack of passion. I've always said it was a fun! show to watch, and I still think it is. But the last 3 episodes made it even worse to see how much potential they wasted. The script at least tried with Gi Cheol and Hae Ryeon, but Junmo and Euijeong? It never felt like Junmo actually liked Gi Cheol (that's why it's wild to me people even saw homoerotic subtext), therefore it always felt like Gi Cheol was the dumbest guy alive for actually believing Junmo was loyal to him. Junmo felt more loyal to Chief Seo than any person in this show, really. And Euijeong? What happened to the conflicted wife who brought a gun to a date, who was willing to put herself in that position in order to save the two men she loved? It's not In Se Mi's fault, she did the best she could, but the script never allowed those conflicts to fully arise. They were so focused on doing a hong kong gangster movie homage they forgot about the most important aspect of it all, that it isn't the aesthetics (that they got it right), but the passion. Junmo saving Gi Cheol's life is so meaningless because it never felt like he cared. At least with Hae Ryeon we got that amazing scene in which he realizes how much he cares, but that was so little. It should've been much more. And what is more disappointing is that if they didn't have the guts to fully commit to the couples they set up (Gi Cheol and Euijeong/Hae Ryeon and Junmo) the LEAST they could do was to commit to Euijeong and Junmo, especially after everything they did to save one another. Yes, life will be miserable now, but they should be together, even if they're miserable. But they're so cowards they couldn't commit to an ending that has any passion in it, so Gi Cheol dies in the arms of the woman he loved, he is shot by the man he trusted the most... But I don't feel anything? Because it never felt like those people cared! The passion is not even about couples being together, but about loving each other and being willing to kill for each other even if they've been betrayed. One of the best scenes in Heartless City is when Jin Sook learns that Baeksa is a cop. She has raised him all his life, she's one of the people he trusts the most and she's in it with him. She's a criminal. And once she learns that she cries! She says how hard it must've been for him, she said they should congratulate him for being a cop! Like she knew what his being a cop meant for all of them, but at that moment she was just sad because she never got a chance to say how proud she was for him to have become one. It's been 10 years since I've seen that show and I still remember that scene. And then you go into The Worst of Evil and they have everything to make something even crazier than what HC was, they could make people do insane things because they learned to trust and love the enemy... but no? It's just so disappointing. It's not a bad show, it's just a show that never fully commits to being anything but aesthetics and fun fights. If they were so keen on killing Gi Cheol, the least they could do was make us feel something more than "poor Wi Ha Joon dying again on another drama". Being for real, do we like his character or do we just like WHJ in general? I'm just... sad this ending was boring and it could've been so much more if they hadn't forgotten about the characters' motivations.

That decided to make this meticulous, detail oriented crafty man who is painted as a violent sociopath but turns out to be a huuuuuge softie in need of love and just wants to make his family happy and get some cuddles and stuff

look this whole post could just be jang hyuk characters (his character in chuno i think is the quintessential definition of a thirst trap), but this character gets a special shout-out because he works the least sexiest outfit of Royal Minister for the duration of the drama and also the atrocities??

the clown wigs i wore throughout this entire drama because of this guy. sort of like a human trojan horse but snaccify it. being toxic in his little outfits 10/10

Miyeong ja in gyeongseong creature was so annoying, like woman.... Wtf ☠️, so fucking stupid. Ishikawa too, he was a piece of shit, planning to kill all the innocent people who rescued his mistress. And tae sang staying in the hospital was not necessary AT ALL, they just wanted to make him the "tough outside, soft inside hero who sacrifices himself to save others." I hate when kdramas do this. And wi ha joon's character..... Like dude, you are a freedom fighter how could you just give the Japanese army other people's name just to save your ass, what a selfish asshole. They didn't even torture him that much.

GYEONGSEONG CREATURE PART 1 - THE OVERVIEW (PART 1 OF 2)

Good news: I finished Gyeongseong Creature Part 1 last night, in one sitting.

Bad news: Now I have to wait till the 5th of January for the remaining episodes.

Plot: Based in Korea in the 1940s while it struggles under the Japanese occupation, a group of people enter a hospital to look for someone only to discover that a missing person is the least of their concerns with a literal monster on the rampage.

Cast: Park Seo-joon, Han So-hee, Wi Ha-joon, Kim Soo-hyun (Claudia Kim), Jo Han-chul, Kim Hae-sook, Ji Woo, Im Chul-soo, Choi Young-joon

The Overview

I went into this show pretty blind outside of the basic gist of the plot, I expected a run-of-the-mill creature feature and the show definitely delivers in that respect but it also gives us characters worth rooting for even if they don't always agree with each other and strong and complex women across the spectrum.

I know there are some who are a little annoyed about the shorter season (10 episodes instead of the usual 16-episode season) and while I understand the frustration, I think the shorter season was the only way to handle a story like this.

Another thing that is a little frustrating is the decision to split the season into 2 parts, so part 1 dropped with 7 episodes and the remaining 3 episodes will drop on the 5th of January. I knew about the split going into part 1 and.... I don't hate it. The way part 1 ends makes it bearable. It's not quite a cliffhanger (on the cliffhanger scale, this was positively kind) And that way I can do a full rewatch and then watch part 2, making it a more complete experience.

There is no respite in this show, once the story gets going and it gets going pretty quickly, there is no break in the tension. There are no filler episodes. The pace is also consistent throughout all 7 episodes, so it feels more like a very long, stressful film instead of a 7-episode show and I think that works in its favour.

The narrative is also very streamlined, we have very clear narrative arcs that we're following. The first episode opening voice over can be a little tedious but this is an original show (as in not based on a webcomic), so I could deal with that. The writer has done a great job balancing the time they spend with the people inside the hospital and those outside, coupled with competing motives even when people are seemingly on the same side. And the fact that all of this easy to follow is no small feat. This is one of the tightest, most cohesive shows I've seen in a while.

Gyeongseong Creature has one of the most visually striking opening credits and it's worth paying attention to. Outside of the visual appeal, there are a lot of clues/foreshadowing to be found there. The credits also add to the unsettling atmosphere of the show. 10/10.

The show takes place in Korea under the brutal Japanese occupation. I suggest paying attention to the language the characters use (Korean vs Japanese) because it can really give you insight about the character or the context of the conversation. When you're watching the show, there are conversations, where if you're not paying attention, you won't understand why the atmosphere is so charged. To live in a place, where the mere act of speaking in your own language could mean getting brutally beaten became an act of rebellion. It adds a whole other level of nuance and I loved that.

The show also doesn't shy away from the cruelty of the Japanese occupation, the sheer callous way that the local population was treated. It also brings in the medical experiments that the Japanese scientists conducted on the local people (both in China and Korea) Their attitude is perhaps the most chilling (I was cheering when the monster got loose)

It also makes you question who the monster actually is, the literal monster (the person who was turned without their consent) or the people facilitating this, the ones conducting these 'experiments'. Everyone from children to old people were fair game in their twisted quest for progress.

Rewatching "Romance is a Bonus Book" made me swoon for the softer mature male characters in K-dramas 😍.

The character of Ji Seo Jun on the show should have been one of the best characters to be written on K-dramas ♥️💘. He was understanding, patient, mature and meticulous throughout the entire show. The way he handled his crush on Kang Dani and even the little things like the way he admires his mother so much that he buys her a book that he thought she might like when he visits her is truly a delight to watch ♥️. (A special for having rescued the dog, Geumbi, on a rainy evening and raising him 😭❤️) .

While I thoroughly enjoy action stories, with powerful heroes with protective qualities, I often find myself looking for such softer and mature qualities that Ji Seo Jun exhibits on the show in real life as well 💗.

And kudos to Wi Ha Joon for having covered the entire range from action to soft male characters with his impeccable acting. Always a fan of his work ♥️🔥. And I will keep coming back to this show over and over again.

seemingly born of winter itself, the boy of only three was abandoned found seeking refuge in winter town as a snowstorm raged. his origin unknown, even to he who only remembered the cold, the sense of knowing death, and the image of a woman ( mother ) leaving him behind. he didn't speak but understood, following after the guards who found him when they led him toward the castle. silence held strong even when theon was eventually brought before the ruling lord and lady of winterfell - though not out of fear. some wondered if he could speak at all. it was lady leona who fought against sending him to an orphanage, turning toward her lord husband, insisting it was the old gods who'd guided theon to winterfell, a sign that he belonged here. and so it was decided. bestowed the name theon ( for he gave no name when asked if he had one ), he became a stark as winter howled outside.

silence filled his initial days. the people around him called him a stark but his mind didn't believe it, believing instead that one day the starks would tell him to leave or something else would destroy the seemingly peaceful home. the lady stark falling pregnant soon after his adoption additional kindling to those thoughts. as the moons passed and his silence persisted, worry grew, his mother's worry was strongest of all, making her hover and also write to any maester she could in hopes that someone would have an answer - they all said the same: time was most likely the only cure. no one knows what shifted in the young heir, not even theon himself could point to a precise event beyond sitting under the weirwood tree and a feeling of certainty washing over him. when the feeling didn't fade, he spoke at last.

the years passed and theon devoted himself to his duties and studies. he was his father's shadow, following him to all of his meetings where he would drink in all the information he could and eventually voice his own opinions and questions. blessed with a sharp mind, the lessons of lordship were absorbed with great speed as were lessons of sword fighting. he would never be the strongest in terms of muscle but theon was swift, silent, and unrelenting with a particular fondness for training at night or in the woods where he could use the shadows to his advantage. a sign of the wildness that lurked beneath the surface, a wolf in all the ways that mattered for one who bore the noble northern name. devotion to his home, family, and gods were unwavering. sleepless nights not uncommon as he poured over documents and sparred in the training yard until his muscles ached. he remained a man of few words, preferring to observe first and speak second, and allowing his actions to speak for him. his parents' pride was palpable, and as theon ventured beyond winterfell, for a wolf must wander so he could know freedom, the people of the north saw their future rested in capable hands.

journeys south proved far less frequent than visits to northern bannermen and the wall that shielded the realm from foes that theon never questioned existed. if dragons could cast shadows upon the earth then so too could the northern legends prove true. theon found more reasons to distaste the south than reason to enjoy it. whenever he traveled there, either duty calling him or his fondness for tourneys, he often felt like an outsider, a dark shadow invading an otherwise bright, at least on the surface, scene. returning north was always welcomed.

theon's commitment to his duty as heir was unquestionable, and a part of that duty was marriage. he thought little of love, assuming he would wed whoever his parents decided was the best match for the north. and then he met dafne martell. suddenly his thoughts were drifting to her when they were apart and the pages of his journals reflected the conflict between head and heart - for should the future northern consort not be of the north rather than the desert? denial could only last so long. when feelings were not only admitted but reciprocated, there was no turning back in his eyes. the pair soon wed in winterfell's gods wood, a stark cloak wrapped around the sand snake's shoulders and theon's heart placed in their hands.

in recent years, more responsibilities were placed upon theon's shoulders; lord jon was getting older and thus it was crucial that theon take an even greater active role in ruling. his father had always let him be involved but now he was looking to theon, wanting his opinion first and then voicing his own, sometimes pointing out the pitfalls in the heir's initial assessments, though that grew less as theon learned. whenever trouble threatened the north, no matter how small, it was theon who rushed to its defense, allowing him to further prove his capabilities to both father and bannermen, who he maintained steady correspondence with in addition to his visits.

his father's death was still a shock to theon's system. he had thought that his father would have many more years left, during which father and son could work together, but now the north was his alone. grief was strong for many moons, though he hid it extremely well, not wanting the north to doubt his capabilities. the new ruling lord possessed a quiet confidence, visible but not boastful, that he was prepared to govern the land that he held dear. no matter what challenges he or the northern people faced, he would ensure that the north remained strong, no matter the cost.

theon is very tall, standing at six feet and four inches, but he's more lean than overly muscular, allowing him to maintain the agility he's known for particularly when fighting but also when out exploring the woods and hunting.

he is an exceptional fighter. the art of war was a large component of his studies and undoubtedly theon's favorite, second only to actually holding a sword in his hand. he wields his father's old sword as the patriarch carries the stark greatsword, which was gifted to him after he successfully completed his training and proved himself as a fighter.

doesn't like remaining inside for long periods of time. he will often venture into the wolfswood to go riding or hunting, or if he must stay closer to home, to the godswood or training yard simply to breathe in fresh air. the cold seemingly has little effect on him; a fact that has caused worry when he would remain outside seemingly unbothered even as snow falls.

he has an extremely close connection to the old gods. he visits the godswood at least once a day to pray and also think.

some might assume him to be a cold man due to his aloof and guarded nature, but theon does feel very deeply. there's a softness about him shown to only a select few as he is extremely selective about who he allows into his inner circle, preferring to keep most at an arm's length. however, when someone does earn his trust and friendship they will find a friend who will stand at their side through thick and thin. once his trust is lost, however, it's near impossible for it to be regained. he is of the north, and the north remembers.

the prospect of an independent north has crossed his mind over the years, a fact he has kept to himself. the distinct contrast between his home and the other regions is undeniable but the presence of dragons and the violence they're capable of keeps those thoughts quiet. for now he has no plans to act on the thoughts and hopes future events won't force his hand because at the end of the day, theon will always choose the north.

theon loves writing, finding it easier to express his thoughts and emotions on paper than with spoken words. it's why he enjoys writing letters. he has also written journals for many, many years. they all remain safely hidden within his room, entirely unseen by and unmentioned to anyone. additionally he has penned a few stories that he's secretly had published under a false name so they could circulate throughout the north and further south without anyone realizing they were written by him.
