I'm obsessed with purple hawke's relationship to god. that scene when you side with the mages and talk to bethany, and she's finally reached the certainty that she is as the maker made her and that it must be good, she must be good, because the maker is good. and her older sibling is just standing there hollow-eyed and haunted like 'oh. I was just thinking that god is not only indifferent to human life and suffering but actively, deliberately cruel and malicious and that all of creation is nothing more than a stage stained with an eternity of blood and grief where we act out our tragedies and tear each other apart for His entertainment. actually. but maybe you're right. who's to say'

So there's a poll that crossed my dash (https://www.tumblr.com/lansplaining/739863989923856384/in-a-time-travel-situation-to-save-himself-jgy if you're curious) about what JGY would do if he traveled back in time. There's lots of incredible but totally dissenting ideas in the notes, and now I really want your perspective. JGY dies in Guanyin Temple and wakes up in the past: what's his game plan?
oh man this is an interesting question! and so much of it is "it depends", particularly on "where in the past does he end up."
I think the first answer is actually to a certain extent "freeze and despair" because the thing is that from Jin Guangyao's perspective, he's never had a whole lot of options. His mistakes - or at least, the things that got him in trouble - look like, if not inevitabilities, a question of "what could I have done that would've been better?", at least at (his own) first impression. I think a lot of the time he makes the choices he makes because he feels cornered into them. He kills Nie Mingjue because otherwise he will die. Whether he was directly responsible for Rusong's death or not (I tend to think not, but I also think the text is deliberately ambiguous), it's a matter of preserving what little reputation he has (and MDZS tells us, repeatedly, that reputation can be the difference between life and death). The incest is thoroughly accidental and, once it's done, fairly inescapable without severely damaging both his own reputation (not an insignificant matter) and that of Qin Su, who he cares for deeply; once he knows he does what he can by ceasing to be intimate with Qin Su.
The only thing that I think is definitely not about feeling cornered is Jin Guangshan's death, which is far more personal; but there is also the consideration that if he doesn't kill Jin Guangshan he is quite probably going to be pushed out, one way or another. I don't remember if it's explicit or not, but Jin Guangshan's bringing in of Mo Xuanyu isn't not a threat that Jin Guangyao is replaceable.
So I think Jin Guangyao, back in time, looks at his options and thinks what am I supposed to do that won't end in disaster, when part of what doomed me was what I am (my mother's son), in and of itself.
He can try to stay in Nie Mingjue's good graces, but that means submitting himself to abuse from Nie subordinates and accepting his "place" with the Nie, which he doesn't want. If he never works as a spymaster for Wen Ruohan, then he never has the means to gain status, and if he works as spymaster for Wen Ruohan then he gains Nie Mingjue's suspicion if not enmity, which is likely to spiral rapidly both because of Nie Mingjue's inevitable deterioration and their drastic differences in perspective in general. If Jin Guangyao ends up with the Jin, he ends up having to do the same things that make Nie Mingjue so angry with him on behalf of his father, because it's not like he can say no. If he kills his father, he might have a chance, but he's also then committed a crime that if anyone discovers it will earn him universal approbation and has to live in fear of that for the rest of his life, intensified by his previous experiences/trauma from the former timeline. If he tries to make sure Nie Mingjue dies in the war, that's risky in itself, because if he is implicated even slightly in it he's also doomed.
Then, if he's only traveled back in time to when he's already joined the Jin after the Sunshot Campaign, it's even worse: he's already in a bad position with Nie Mingjue, who is going to become a (at least potential) threat to his life, but killing Nie Mingjue triggers Nie Huaisang's revenge. Killing Nie Huaisang is maybe an option but he would have to get away with it and that's intensely risky, and not something I know that he necessarily wants to do.
(I think he would kind of like to kill Nie Huaisang. I think he is very angry with Nie Huaisang. Definitely not going to be getting close to him at all, and I think would cut him off from any personal connection as politely as possible. Imagine how Nie Huaisang would feel about this with no understanding as to why, it's fun.)
If he doesn't do anything - leaves Jin Guangshan alive, leaves Nie Mingjue alive, leaves Nie Huaisang alive - he might be able to get through it alive. But from his perspective (at least) I think there's decent odds that Nie Mingjue would kill him, or at least a significant risk of it - if nothing else, because Nie Mingjue is going to lose control eventually and Jin Guangyao is a frequent target of his anger even when he is under control. And even if that doesn't happen, again, there's likelihood that he will have to live under his father's oppressive thumb for a long time, knowing that he's, not even hated, but just worthless to him. Knowing that his mother was worthless to him, and feeling, I think, that by being filial to his father he's betraying her. If Jin Guangshan doesn't just kick him out of the sect with nowhere to go.
I do think that while there's a part of Jin Guangyao that could, maybe, accept a low status as a means to survive (and I don't know that he would have anything but a low status in any other sect but the Jin; even his killing of Wen Ruohan doesn't earn him general respect), I think he would be miserable, and always resent it. I think that would feed into the despair, too: that this is his fate, that all his struggle and striving was for nothing and this is all he can do if he wants to live. That there was never any place for him in the world.
and taken all together this is why time travel fix-its where things are different because "Jin Guangyao just [whatever]" kind of drive me a little nuts, both from a logical and a character perspective. I'm not saying it's impossible. just that it's very difficult, and there's not a lot of pathways to happiness for my boy on his own without help - and where is he going to get help? just like the first time around, he's on his own.

“jedi maul au” you say without even stopping to consider what an absolute nightmare it would be to have both of them in the temple together. the diametrical opposite of “a joy to have in class”
(this started with maul doing the pigtail pulling and then i realized that in this scenario obi-wan is definitely the troublemaker between the two of them and maul is definitely the teacher’s pet)

David Chiem and Colors (and Xander)
So, the Chapter 2 Q&A dropped (semi) recently. There’s a ton of fun information in there, but I’m particularly focused on the reveal of David’s favorite and least favorite colors. Yellow (reason: inspiring), and gray (reason: depressing).
These are clearly in reference to his main color associations. His fake inspirational speaker persona is associated with yellow and his current “guilty as charged” persona is associated with gray. David’s opinions on these colors are likely stand-ins for his opinions on his personas.
So now, an important question: Why does he still like yellow?
It’s a commonly agreed upon analysis that David doesn’t like the performance he has to put on in order to be an inspirational speaker. It’s a role he’s forced to play, not one that he believes in personally. In the Chapter 2 trial he ditches that persona (and the yellow in his design) to act in a way that seems more liberating. It’s like his “true self”, or at least a bit truer of a self. But that’s gray David, and David doesn’t like gray. It’s “depressing”.
I think the colors represent how David feels about his own personality. I think that he wishes he could genuinely be like his inspirational speaker persona. If he was, he’d probably be happier. He secretly wishes he could believe in the things he says to inspire people.
But David doesn’t believe in personal growth. He thinks if someone can become better, they were already good. He probably sees himself as a lost cause under this philosophy. There’s no hope for him to be kind, genuine, or happy.
…And that’s where Xander comes in. Xander, in Chapter 1, is a person who is kind, genuine, and happy. He fights for what’s right. And he looks up to David as someone who inspired him to be who he is today. David sees him use that inspiration for good when he stands up for Nico. When Xander tells David he inspires him, David responds by saying Xander is inspiring as well. They’re each other’s role model.
We have no way of knowing right now how much of what David does in Chapter 1 is genuine, but the fixation on Xander in the Literature Girl Insane MV makes me think that David and Xander’s connection was genuine, at least a little bit. But I don’t think it’s just because Xander became his friend. I think it’s because Xander became his role model.
Xander, to David, represents who David wishes he could be. He was more than just a friend. He was David’s hope. A personification of the good David’s given the world, as well as the chance David has to change. If he becomes more like Xander, maybe he’ll live up to his inspirational speaker title. So they become friends and role models. It’s very sweet.
Then Xander tries to kill Teruko. And then he gets electrocuted and dies.
David vehemently defends Xander’s honor in the first trial. It’s not just because he liked Xander. If Xander was his role model of a good person, but he tried to kill someone, then there would be no hope left for David to be a good person either. David’s symbol of hope dies abruptly.
In Chapter 2, David says no one is truly capable of change. He (likely) lies about killing Arei to get himself and the entire case executed. He’s given up on improving or ever being happy. Because the person who gave him the hope that he could change is dead.
I know it’s a bit weird to go from David’s color preferences to “Xander is his hope”, but that’s what clicked into place for me when I read those fun facts. Xander’s eyes are also gray/yellow, like David’s, but unlike David they fluctuate with his emotions and not whatever persona he’s putting on.
Also, I’m obviously not an expert. I could be totally wrong. Either way, I’m excited to see what’s done with David’s character! Hello DRDT fandom.

EVERYONE I just saw the new DRDT twitter post, and I have some things to SAY /pos (if you don't know what I'm talking about, you should probably view this post https://twitter.com/DespairTime/status/1703105596134654210 before continuing on reading this one) ... ... ...You back? Awesome !! First and foremost, gonna take a look at the synopsis
Tumblr media
This concept is giving major 999 vibes, I love this already I also really like the shorter number in cast, I don't actually see a lot of fangans with shorter cast and I think that's a shame because I think there is a lot you can do with a shorter cast of 10-12 participants (see Danganronpa Lapse). > eleven students are forced to continue a killing game that they’ve supposedly already started. However, no one can remember the past trials, nor the deaths of their missing classmates. This is the main thing that caught my eye, and it definitely explains the shorter number in cast. And with their memory erased and the way this is worded, it feels almost like this death game that these characters are in has restarted. Like, something went wrong with it, and that resulted in the death game restarted using the eleven students still left. And if that is the case, that makes me wonder about the possible connection this death game could have with DRDT. But I will get to that later. > Between the killing game, their lost memories, and the “NG codes” that restrict their actions, how could anyone escape unscathed? So this is also using the NG Codes from Danganronpa 3? Yet another thing I find very interesting. I so badly want to know more about this cast. Which is why they are the next topic of my insane ramblings !!
Tumblr media
Okay before I even get into anything, I just want to say mad fucking props to DRDT Dev for these designs and for their art in general. They have genuinely improved so much since the start of DRDT, and it's so cool to see Second of all
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
> That is to say, this is a story about a person who wants to become the perfect teacher. So hi, I love you very much first of all Go to a damn barber second of all I am very worried for you third of all /lh (Also my first thought when I saw him was that he reminded me of Enju from Ayakashi Akashi, and I think that's funny)
Tumblr media
DRDT-Dev has confirmed that this is the protagonist, so I am already very intrigued with him and what his deal is even though we won't find out for a long time Another fun little thing I noticed was that in all of the art so far out with him has him with his eyes closed. I wonder if that means anything Anyway, I love him, and I am also concerned for his safety for something I will talk about later
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for some smaller observations, given how closely these two are depicted, their fire and ice motifs, and their general simialr appearences. I don't think it's a stretch to say that these two could be sibling, or related in some way. I think that's cool
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've seen a few people say that this person could be Elliot Cuevas, Charles' older brother, and I definitely think that's a fair theory to have. Not just because of the purple hair, but also because of the collar around his neck. What is one of the only details we know about Elliot?
Tumblr media
His favorite animal is dogs. And that collar (to me at least, looks very similar to a dog collar. Just something to think about
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have nothing insightful to say, this person is precious and I want to give them ice cream If people start theorizing them to be "secretly evil" istg... /lh /hj The rest of the cast (except one) I have nothing to comment on, so let's get to the main question I am thinking about at this moment Does this project have any connection to the lore of Despair Time?
Tumblr media
This wasn't something that was confirmed, nor denied by DRDT Dev, so everything I'm about to say could age awfully. But I think there are a few pieces of evidence that could hint to this project having more relevence to DRDT than it comes across at first glance. Three to be exact. Let's start with the first and most obvious one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This man who is looking very smug at me is wearing a jacket with an XF-Ture Tech logo on it, or at least something that looks the part.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We do not have much information on what XF-Ture Tech as it stands right now. All we know at the moment is that it is a profit tech company that sponsored Min's family when she was younger at the promise that she would become the Ultimate Student in 12 years time, and that they also do "a lot of other things"....whatever the hell that shady sentence means. Due to the lack of information about XF-Ture Tech, there is not much else I can analyse at this moment. But this fact alone does seem to connect this project and DRDT in some way. But obviously that's not all For my second piece of evidence, we go back to that teacher character. Because I swear...there was another, albeit hidden, place where a teacher character was mentioned... Oh yeah !
Tumblr media
.....Ohhhhhhh righttt... Teacher man, you're in big trouble. In all seriousness, considering how intricate DRDT-Dev's writing is, I just don't think this could be a coincidence at all and if it is I'll be genuinely surprised. I think this teacher character and the teacher mentioned in the about page's hidden text are the same person. Now that does not exactly answer the big question of who is saying this text. It could be the mastermind of this project's death game, could be another participant in this project's death game, hell the possibility that this is the mastermind of the DRDT cast's death game still isn't really ruled out. But the main point is that I think it's a very big possibility that this teacher and the teacher in the about page's hidden text are the same person. And lastly, I would like to go back to what I said in the beginning: > it feels almost like this death game that these characters are in has restarted. Like, something went wrong with it, and that resulted in the death game restarted using the eleven students still left. If we're following the idea that this is a restarted death game, that honestly gives me the same vibes as a reboot of a television show. Which brings me to my point: What if this death game is also being broadcasted? I feel as though it is definitely a possibility given the summary, but for right now there doesn't seem to be much proof of this idea. _ That's basically all of my current thoughts on this project that DRDT-Dev has shown us. If this does end up becoming the next fangan DRDT Dev releases after the completion ot Despair TIme, I am very excited to see in the future what has been cooking

atp i can't tell if charles is gonna be a survivor or not cuz he gives off such strong victim vibes (imo) but at the same time theres still so much mystery surrounding his brother, amnesia and trauma + theres his growing relationship with whit and the rest of the cast
like he doesn't seem like he would kill (on purpose) and it would be really easy to catch him off guard but im not sure
my bet had always been that he's a mid story (ch3) victim but you'd get a lot of backstory and reveals about him beforehand like arei because honestly i just can't see charles surviving the game he just seems like the type of character where theres too much mystery surrounding him for him to survive plotwise. like when we (and charles himself) finally get to know him better bam. he's dead
my other idea (if i wasn't sliiightly suspicious of whit being the mastermind) would have been ch3 whit victim and charles survivor but we know even LESS about whit and he hasn't even had emotional breakdown™ or any strong feelings shown yet so im still more inclined towards charles
but its still early in the series and the dev could still pull a fast one on us, despite theories we're still totally in the dark for now

What if...
Sweet summer child Sansa would love Prince Jace Velaryon.
Btw on the 1st pic Jace wasnt looking down on Sansa. It was supposed to be a scene where many lords are gathered and some were sneering at him so he had to put the houlier-than-thou face (like in ep 8), and Sansa was sneaking glances at him from across the crowds.
Just a fun silly hc for a crack ship xD
