Okay, so y’all know that I did an archaeology field school this past summer? So I recently learned that there was a burial on one of the sites we were digging at, found during preliminary survey— that we were just not told about.

Nothing fishy, there was a Civil War era mass grave on the site that was later dug up and moved. This person just got left behind.

Really puts our professor’s admonishments to not find any human remains in a different light.

#obvs we were digging in a totally different area #but it’s not a big site #unrelated to all the burials next door to the main site #that I will not be discussing to avoid highly circuitous doxing #apparently it is going to be excavated #which is not typical #but the org in charge of it all is trying to get a better idea of who the person is #with the intent of sending them home if possible #(generally burials get left alone unless there’s a really good reason to dig)#my blather #archaeology
