šŸ‹Siren AU, Scene One:
(Warning: mentions of cannibalism, Reader being chased from their old home, possible child murder, and Reader wanting to bite everything that tries to touch them. You have been advised)
ā€¢ The ocean before you spreads beyond you, vast and impending. There is no coral, no colorful fish, no seaweed. It is an unending abyss of blue, fading darker and darker the farther it is from the sunlit water above... But, you have nowhere else to go...
ā€¢ You used to have a different home, a different life. Born to a school of reef mers, all colorful and elegant, you were different from birth. You were black and white, not a speck of any other color to your tail... And your tail, it wasn't built like the others', full of trailing fins and frills, but bulkier, thicker. While the other guppies made fun of you, you took care of yourself. After all, you were stronger than them. If one bit you, you whapped your tail against their head. If they scratched you, you pinned them to the sandy floor until they begged to be let up. After awhile, you were just left alone, ignored and abandoned in favor of more similar playmates...
ā€¢ You hated when you found out what you were... It had been a regular day, learning what you could from an elder, playing by yourself, and keeping away from the gossipy guppies, until a hunter had burst into the coral reef. The moment they saw you, they had screeched, "I finally know what they are! A siren!" Murmurs went up, followed by an elder asking for proof... "Proof! Here is your 'proof '" they had spat and they tossed a fin, just like the one along your back, into the group. "I tore that from a siren north of our territory! It was large, a behemoth! In the same colors of that one, bone white and ink black! It wasn't just any siren, but an orca!"
ā€¢ THAT set the entire school into an uproar. Shrieks and cries burbled into the water as the nearest adults lunged at you, claws aiming for your fins and eyes. You managed to duck by, swimming as fast as you could around the panicking mer. The reef flashed past you as you swam, bits of rock and coral scraping against you as you dodged reaching claws and sharp harpoons. Until finally, you slipped out into the open waters, slapped out by the tail of one of the hunters, who tried to follow you. It only took that for you to turn tail and flee, striking out into the uncharted waters...
ā€¢ And here you were now, alone, bleeding, and with no skills or school to help you survive. The one thing you had that was yours was your pearl earring, long and dangling, that you had found by yourself when you were only twelve winters old... You weren't sure how it wasn't torn off in the chase, but it brought you a small comfort to keep it. With a bubble-filled sigh, you kept swimming...
ā€¢ The sea stretched on, never stopping or ending. No signs of any other life were to be found, save for small squid that came up at night, fleeting and swift. It was... unnerving. It had only been a week since you left, and your wounds had started to heal. You found out, only a few hours after leaving the reef, that a harpoon had nicked your tail, leaving a jagged, painful scratch along its side. That complicated swimming, but you couldn't stop. If you stopped, it was likely something would try to eat you while you rested. You couldn't risk a shark, or dolphins, or another siren finding you. If mer would kick out one of their own, someone they had raised, all because they were a siren... Would an actual siren do worse?
ā€¢ Your reprieve from these thoughts was finding a small, rocky outcrop pointing out of the endless blue. The waters here were colder, foggy and sometimes filled with chunks of white. It wasn't ideal to stop here, but you needed rest, and this was the only opportunity you had had since your escape... Still... You approach the rock carefully, and once found clear of danger, you curl into a small crack, just big enough to fit you.
ā€¢ Your dreams are fitful, full of sharp claws and deadly spears and familiar voices leering at you, pouncing in for the kill-!
ā€¢With a sharp, fearful click, you wake up. Your fingers rub over your arms, as your tail curls up, trying to squeeze yourself into a smaller ball. You feel the small gills of your neck flit, until you are able to calm down from the nightmare... But just as you settle back down... You hear an eerie sound, something that reverberates through the water around you...
ā€¢ Tensing up, you stay quiet, staring out into the darkness beyond the crack. The moonlight filters through the water, painting everything in alien blacks and silvers, until the noise dies out... Everything is quiet, save for the small rush of a current nearby. The world seems still, unmoving... until something shifts into the light, something large and dark, and you shrink further into the crack. It's the largest thing you've ever seen...
ā€¢ Another eerie sound rings out, something between a hum and a wail, loud and fervent. You clap your hands over your ears, trying to muffle the noise. Whatever is out there moves again, until you can't see it anymore... With a small shudder, you turn your head away from the crack entrance, and drift back into slumber.
ā€¢ In the morning, when you wake up, you cautiously approach the crack entrance, sensing the water near it for any vibrations. Luckily, none are there... When you gather your nerves, you slip out, careful not to aggravate the scars on your tail. There are more white chunks in the water, and there are small bits of light turning the water a jewel green. Nothing seems off... No mers, no fish...
ā€¢ "So, that's where you were hiding."
ā€¢ A shriek escapes you as you turn around, only to find something larger than you and the rock outcrop...
ā€¢ It's large, with scars banding it's arm and chest, with old wounds lining its tail. Their teeth are sharp, and their eyes are reddish-brown, like drying blood. Talons as sharp as hooks are at the end of each of its fingers, long and deadly... And their tail... It's... It's... the same as, yours...?
ā€¢ "What, never seen another siren before, kid?" it asks, in a growl-like voice. In a sharp arc, you dive back into the crack you came out of. A curse echoes around you, as the being shifts around the rock so they can gaze into the small crevice. "Kid, kid, calm down. It's just a joke."
ā€¢ "..."
ā€¢ "You've... never seen another siren, have you?" It- he, it sounds like a he- peers at the entrance. One of their claws scrapes at it, but it won't entirely go in. "You can come out, kid, I'm not gonna eat you," he tries. You push yourself as far back as you can go, even when you feel the rough walls scrape your harpoon wound open. A hiss escapes you, following a small stream of blood. Another sound comes from the much (much much) larger siren, like a low growl. "Are you bleeding, kid?"
ā€¢ You don't answer, only squeezing yourself in further. You're uncomfortable, pressed this far back, but it's the farthest you can get from what is essentially an adult who is bigger and obviously more dangerous than the mers you knew. A billowing sigh escapes the larger creature, the water rippling around it. "Kid... if you're bleeding, it needs to be looked at. Can you please come out?"
ā€¢ "... No..." You shiver, trying to will yourself to be strong. If push comes to shove, you can't go down without a fight. What are you, afraid? You survived a murder attempt! SEVERAL, murder attempts! You can face some oversized whale, right?!
ā€¢ "Kid, I can't take 'no' for an answer. Now, please come out. Don't make this difficult." The creature sounds tired now, maybe a little irritated. You let out a warbling click, the most threatening one you can muster. The creature stills, and seems to back off...
ā€¢ Then... something weird happens. A loud, mournful wail-click, filled with a desperate, assertive tone rocks the waters, sending a cool ripple into you... But... the song sounds nice... Soothing... You shake your head, ripping yourself free from it.
ā€¢ "No! I'm not going out there! You might eat me! Or WORSE!" you yell, covering your ears. The siren outside let's out an annoyed noise, only for it to pause...
ā€¢ "Why the h*ll would I eat ya, kid? And what do you mean, 'do worse'?" Then there's a loud, deafening growl, and he speaks again. "The mers... they did that to you, didn't they?" When you don't speak up, he takes that as an answer. "Of course those sons of eels would do that... Kid, look, I'm not like them. We are not like them. We don't do that. We don't scare off kids, we don't try to kill 'em, and we definitely aren't about to make you bleed. Now, I'm going to say this one more time: Please come out."
ā€¢ You shiver as the water only seems to get colder the longer you stay still... But still... "I... I can't...." You can't go back out there just to be chased off again, or have to battle against a siren whose older and stronger than you, who could easily rip you apart and leave you for the sharks...
ā€¢ "I'm sorry, kid. That gives me no choice..." The calm wail-click starts again, and even though you try to cover your ears, it does nothing to block it out or to stop the vibrations rocking you gently. Tears enter your eyes, and you try to beg him to stop... But the song seems to echo inside your own head, a peaceful noise offering only relief and warmth... A small whimper escapes you, only for the song to get louder, softer, until you're lying down on the rocky floor and drifting off... The song keeps going, deep and affectionate, until you feel relaxed and tired... A slow rumble halts the song, and you let out a small warble, asking for it to come back...
ā€¢ " 'Kay, kid, let's see ya." Something clicks besides you, dragging you out of the dark rock and into a warm palm. You sigh contentedly, the heat from it like the warmth of a thermal vent, constant and inviting... Something turns you, until you're staring into dark, vibrant eyes. You blink sluggishly, reaching out a hand to touch it...
ā€¢ "Oh cr*p, kid... they did a number on you, didn't they?" A sad noise escapes you, and the voice stops. "Don't worry, we'll fix you up... Wait..." A nudge rolls you onto your stomach. "Kid... you look... just like me..." A croon comes from above you, and you feel more warmth pressed into you. "Okay, kid... Looks like I might just have to keep ya, huh? You sure are quite the little survivor, aren't you?" When you nod sleepily, the grip shifts, until your tucked against a warm wall... "'Kay, I can't say no to that... Let's get ya back to the pod, okay, kid? I know the other pups will be happy to see you..."
ā€¢ You yawn, hearing a deep chuckle. "Seems like you need a nap... Night, kid. Get some rest. I'll keep you safe..." And with the gentle heat keeping you content and sleepy, you fall asleep... "Let's just hope Creed doesn't get word of you..."

Will the reader try to fight with other sirens? Because I think the reader is by nature quite aggressive and impatient.
For the šŸ‹Siren AU, Orca!Reader Edition, yes, they are a bit aggressive and impatient. Would the Reader pick a fight with other sirens? Well, that depends. They have learned that sometimes it's best to pick your battles, and as they don't know about sirens or their culture, let alone if the adults would get mad enough to attack them (which they wouldn't, but would want to give Reader behavior therapy, Siren edition), they'd rather not fight them if they can avoid it. Fighting the adult sirens, though... Reader would be prepared to bite them, once they wake up and realize they were essentially guppy-napped (and when they realize the adults aren't getting mad at them, they feel freaked out).
Honestly, when Orca!Siren!Logan heard them, he kept trying to find them, only for the Reader to fall asleep in the rock crevice. So what did he do? Waited the entire night, in case the baby siren he heard popped back up. Which they did. And once he realized Reader was an orca siren like him, he felt pretty happy about it. (Honestly, I don't know if I should make him or Victor Reader's biological birth parent, or just let Reader be born to a mer...)
Fun facts about orcas:
ā€¢ They can live in a pod of up to 50 members
ā€¢ They have their own special language between their pod
ā€¢ Some of them are specialty hunters (their ancestors learned to hunt salmon, so it was passed down through that family for generations, as an example)
ā€¢ Orcas eat other predators, even whales (seals, sharks, octopi, etc. ...)
ā€¢ Orcas can play
ā€¢ Orcas have helped humans before
ā€¢ Orcas are actually dolphins (the largest)
Fun fun facts, right?šŸ˜ŠšŸ§”
Bonus:
Siren!Logan: sees Siren!Reader after he gets a good look at them
Siren!Logan: ...
Siren!Logan: You're my kid now hugs sleeping ReaderšŸ˜šŸ„°
Siren!Reader: makes sleepy noises
Siren!Logan: ... You are definitely mine swims off with them happily, hoping he gets to be their parent šŸ˜ŠšŸ’•šŸ–¤šŸ¤
...
Siren!Victor: My brother sense are tingling. That means Logan is doing something without me! goes out to look for LoganšŸ˜ šŸŒŠ

For the šŸ‹Siren AU, Reader will be...
An ORCA!šŸ–¤šŸ¤
You can bet that Orca!Siren!Reader is the sort who isn't afraid to tussle over something. Food, their piece of pearl jewelry, nosey siren pups, or way too large and way too eager adult sirens. Orca!Reader is snapping their sharp little teeth and making threatening clicks, all while being small enough for an adult siren to pick them up like a baby (while they are being held like an angry baby penguin). If any of the platonic yan sirens are also Orca!Sirens, then they are even more invested in Reader, as orcas are social creatures, and tend to have pods of about 50 members. They have their own cultures, too...
And now, I get to do the opening scene for this au...

Iā€™m hyped for your siren au!! Itā€™s gonna be amazing
You said sirens hunt mer if they are hungry enough, But also they love pups, so what do they do with mer pups?
Okay, good question! Let's just say if a siren pup can be born to a regular mer/mer couple, then the sirens have a way of turning a mer pup to a siren pup... (They don't like mers, but aren't about to eat a baby... rude and snobby teenagers, though, well... A few members would certainly feel a bit inclined to get rid of a mer that poses a threat to their pups. So, yeah, Duncan and Riley aren't very safe. At all).
Bonus for you! Glad to hear from you again! :
Sirens love anything shiny they can find for their nests, but also for display purposes, especially if they need a way to stand out, for mates/podmates to find them or for pups to find them if they get lost/need to remember which siren their parent is. Pearls aren't the only thing sirens wear or use for display and decoration, but it is a revered one. Pearls are symbolic, taking something small and weak, and making it beautiful and strong, a new being.

Hey, guys...
Should I make a regular Siren AU?
Where it is more sea and coast and Artic-based, and we have the adults being obsessive over baby sirens who are on their own? Imagine the Reader just floating around the ocean, kicked out from their pod/school because they turned out to be a siren and not a mer?
And believe me when I say the platonic yans, adult and pup/guppy alike, would immediately want Reader, all while Reader is trying to hide, swim away, or bite them (depending on their mood/your flavor of Reader)...

Since all three were orca sirens, I figured I should ask this question...

just curious, in your siren au, how would a sea snake reader have acted?
I am obsessed with snakes so I find the idea cool, not to say the orca idea isnā€™t amazing as well!!
Sea snake Siren Reader would be a bit shy, more mellow, and is very wiggly. They would have venom, but they can control if they inject it in or not (like actual sea snakes). This Reader would also like sleeping in sunlight. Just lounging on a rock and soaking up sunshine that filters through the waters. They probably ended up with the end if their tail scarred during their escape from their old home. Their reaction to seeing their first siren would be to bare their fangs, then wriggle into a hiding spot. They look like a cute, colorful noodle. A venomous one, but still.
Thank you for asking your question! If you have any more, ask those, too! Have a lovely day, @crowwithguns !

I remember you already had works about sirens, will the new work be a continuation of the old one? By the way, I hope for an extremely fearful and aggressive octopus readerā˜ŗļø
Well, no. The šŸ¦ˆSirenSong AU had humans as the main antagonistic force, right? And took place on land (albeit by the coast), and had a more modern approach. The šŸ‹Siren AU takes place in the ocean, and this time, the mer take the place of humans, and the X-Men and Brotherhood (and Reader!) are sirens. This AU also has the sirens who have halves based on/actually are real fish/mammals/reptiles of the ocean, albeit more predatory species.
Bonus for you! :
The ages are still the same in the AUs. That part didn't exactly change. Where sirens count by decades instead of one year. An example: 1 year=10 decs (means they're seen as like, a one year old by the adult sirens, even if they appear as a ten year old. A siren is considered a young adult once they reach 2,000 years of age, which is like 2,000 years=20 decs (means they're considered to be about twenty).
Expect the sirens to have odd ways of parenting (normal for sirens, but Reader has never met another siren, they didn't even know they were a siren until a mer realized their species, and promptly started a mob to chase them out of their reef home). Also, sirens love collecting things, especially for their large nests (usually in a gigantic cave). Pearls, shiny rocks, bones, shells, scales, kelp, furs, feathers, odd land trinkets found in shipwrecks, coral, etc. ... They like to have impressive, beautiful, and comfortable nests, all the better to attract podmates, potential mates, and pups...
And yes, there will plenty of some of the adults arguing over who gets to raise Reader (can you guess which two would pose the biggest problem?)šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘‹ Thank you for taking the time to ask your question!

I'm glad to hear you like the idea! I'm thinking that the sirens fish/mammal/serpent half is more predatory than mers'. Some ideas I have for possible siren halfs include: sharks, octopi, orcas, eels, squids, cuttlefish, etc. ...
I kinda imagine sirens have their own society set apart from mers, maybe a little less grand/colorful, but still full of familiarity and fellowship. Especially when it comes to their pups, who most of the adult sirens fight over who gets to parent them. In the past, that has caused many epic battles and rituals, especially since pups to them are sacred, as the sirens aren't able to reproduce well in the conditions they live in. If one is able to have a pup, it is usually celebrated for years...
Also, they're very good at catching food, and some would even hunt mers, if no other food option is available...

I couldn't exactly leave these two out, now, could I? For most of the characters, I already have an idea what type of siren they should be. But for these two, I'm uncertain... Well, looks like y'all get to help decide!

I am curious to know! I love pearls, and I decided to incorporate them into siren culture. They are used for many things, such as jewelry, ceremonial rituals, nest decorations, imbedded scale art, and used for mosaics as well! Clams, oysters, and other mollusks are used as symbols of renewal, rebirth, and potential, as you never know what kind of pearl will come from one.

Tonight I am doing the final touches to Scene One of the šŸ‹Siren AU!!! But I also wanted to know...
Should I do a loosely-inspired-by Hazbin Hotel AU?
Look, I know that it has controversy: angelic and demonic entities, the creator and their drama, the depictions of drugs and sexual abuse, the list goes on... I appreciate it, if for the story, the art, and the people who did care about it. This show is also for older audiences (18+), so if I I did this AU, it wouldn't be graphic (I don't write s*x, r*pe, or too much gore/squick/torture), but it would have mature themes (a setting between Heaven and Hell... yeah, that is a biggie). And the show in no way reflects my beliefs, or how I view the spiritual side of things, but I can appreciate the creativity, art, and idea of redemption being possible that it conveys, regardless.
I might not even do it... But if y'all wouldn't mind it/would want to read it... please let me know...

I think these are good options to choose from, and remember: I write only platonic stuff. No romance, no s*x, none of that. This AU is loosely inspired by Hazbin Hotel. And in this AU, good and evil would exist, but good is considered God or godly, since I'm not putting God or a God in this au...
(Added warning: If you are toxic, to me or to who reads the au/follows me/is just existing, you will be blocked. I realize the Hazbin Hotel fandom has many fans, some if which are toxic. They are not welcome here. Those who are polite to other fans, or don't engage in drama or hate/rage-filled rants/threats, they are welcome to this au! And if you would rather not read it, that is a-okay too! What is most important is maintaining your mental and emotional health, and being kind to others. Thank you all for your input, and I'll be working on this AU once the poll is done and the šŸ‹Siren AU Scene One is done! Yay creativity!)
