this post includes season 3 album covers, original song titles, s3 voice drama titles, cover songs, album, character and song trailer voicelines and song previews! so yeah, very long post! but i feel like it's probably better to have everything in one place..
i've planned to go with a completely original concept for season 3 album covers but.. drawing all that would take too long.. and drawing the designs alone was already too much work for me, so i went with season 1-like album covers bc i actually haven't made these before! i've still tried to make them more. "linacore" and instead of a black background, i tried to make them more colorful. i think they came out too colorful.. apologies if they look too eyestrain-y..
(also i really tried to make them more hd but my editing apps kept ruining the quality. so sorry.. maybe that will make analyzing them more interesting in some way..)

IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO COME UP WITH A TITLE FOR HIS SONG I'VE LITERALLY TRIED EVERYTHING BUT ALL OF THEM SOUNDED TOO BORING.. i really wanted to have more fun with the song titles this time, so hopefully this one sounds cool.. okay, so his covers! literally all of them are about his relationship with arata, haha. COME ON UNFRIENDLY HATER IS LITERALLY THEM BEFORE THEY STARTED DATING. (or. "dating" as akio likes to say) mosquito is a much more angsty AND realistic take on their relationship ("in any case, in any case, you're the only one getting high", "the more we pursue one another, the more unsavory you become", "i'll die if i stop sucking from you, 'cause i'm a mosquito", "i wonder why it was so beautiful despite being so warped"). meanwhile akaa is like, the saddest one out of them all since in this case it's basically akio begging arata to stay with him, continue to praise him and call him a genius no matter what. i wish i could've given him something that could tell more about his relationship with chise too..

i think aimi's mv theme will be obvious, hehe. you won't have to think much about flower language and stuff like that tho, so don't worry. i really don't think i have to explain why i gave xxx cat to her, like. i think it's obvious jdkslsls (i also thought of maybe giving her bacterial contamination, but i changed my mind since even though the lyrics sound a lot like her, the aesthetic is.. not very aimicore). starlight girl was mostly given to her bc i thought it'd sound cute, but some lyrics do remind me of her and her relationship with her victim ("whispering that sweet lie, you disappeared", "but i still haven't been able to fill up this hole you left inside me"). was deep cover assigned to her only bc of the aimi (kotoko's va) pun?.. maybe. but no, no, i really do have a deeper reason for that! but for now, all i can say is. her relationship with miki and all other prisoners at the moment.

i honestly gave up while trying to think of a title for his song, so i think "???" perfectly describes shun's character and how tired i felt. if you need to know how it's supposed to be pronounced, i imagine it being something like "uhh..", showing how shun is confused 24/7. AND FINALLY HE'S OFFICIALLY GETTING A ZOMBIES COVER.. the reason why i went with zombies is bc shun just.. feels like a zombie to me. like the way he talks, how i imagine him moving, his color palette.. and also the imagery of his victims' dead bodies. like aww, he's drinking tea and eating cake while both his "ex-gf" and her new bf are dead <3 how cute.. i think his character trailer voiceline will really show how much the lines like "your body is cold even when we hug", "i love you, half-decomposed isn't bad", etc, fit him.. about aishiteitanoni, I DON'T THINK I HAVE TO EXPLAIN ANYTHING, IT'S PERFECT FOR HIM, I SCREAMED WHEN I SAW IT SHOW UP IN MY NOTIFS HSHAHSHSJS. meme is. meme. that's what a guilty verdict does to a guy. and yes, his vd's title is supposed to be a reference to his t1 vd :)

oh naomi.. if only it was easier to come up with song titles for you.. i was giggling while typing her vd's title tho LIKE YES NAOMI EMBRACE THE FACT THAT YOU WERE NEVER ABLE TO TRULY GROW UP!! her miraise cover is really up to interpretation, it can be both about her relationship with her mother and her trying to express her true feelings and make her mother listen, but it also can be about her relationship with tao ("you went before me, didn't you?", "how long do i have to wait? how long do i have to cry?", "i'm singing to the you that will be born after tomorrow") i felt like "it's just life" really fits her and her cover would sound very pretty and it's also just. sad. like naomi really is a smart and talented woman, she could have a bright future, she could have lots of friends, but.. she has way too many issues. and she can't accept that. HER DOUBLE COVER WOULD BE SO GOOD. THE INSTRUMENTAL WOULD MOSTLY BE THE SAME BUT HER VOICE WOULD STILL SOUND SOFT AND REALLY ANNOYED AT THE SAME TIME.. i get chills while thinking about her version of the scene where mikoto calls his mom..

his song title was originally supposed to be a pun on the theme of his mv, but it sounded kinda meh to me, so i just went with his main philosophy instead sjskslsl. (the reference to that pun is still there on the cover though) also nO I'VE DECIDED THAT RABBIT HOLE IS VERY KEICORE A LONG TIME AGO EVEN BEFORE THAT ANIMATION SIT DOWN I'M POINTING MY GUN AT YOU SIT DOWN!!!! thank you now i didn't just go with rabbit hole bc "haha funny horny song", it actually does fit kei's aesthetic very well and the lyrics sound a lot like him because rabbit hole always sounded very.. childish to me? like yes, it's supposed to sound all silly and playful, but kei's whole thing is that even though he claims he's so cool and mature and gets all the bitches, this guy still feels like he's younger than eiji (who is six years younger than him), unconsciously regresses to cope with whatever life throws at him and rarely takes dark, scary and tragic stuff seriously. it does reveal some stuff about his crime and his relationship with the victims too! ("you want me to repent? what can i say?", "little miss devotion, the exit's over there, oh, so not going home after all?") as for his other covers, BAD HONEY HUNT FITS HIM SO WELL. LOOK AT THE THUMBNAIL. COME ON THAT'S SO HIM. and the lyrics sound a lot like him as well! about him getting tihtbilwy.. that's him taking his rose-colored glasses on again and singing about how he sees his relationship with ruka :')

EIKO IS OVER HERE GOING FULL SLAY MODE!!! i originally wanted the title to be smth like "grave robber-chan/san", since i prefer to use jp honorifics in my writing, but i felt like no honorifics would fit the song's vibe, so i went with good old "miss" instead. parasite fits eiko so well.. it describes her relationship with her victim perfectly.. the reason why i gave her cat is. well first of all IT WOULD SOUND REALLY COOL, but also, i actually don't see it as eiko singing about herself, i like to think that she's singing about takeru instead, making fun of him for lying to her and manipulating her ("lie until it gets better, follow the king of the masquerade", "victim and perpetrator, let's keep it simple", "i just wanted to ask, so it's out in the open, i just got a little greedy"). MY BRAIN EXPLODED WHEN I REALIZED HER COVER CAN BE INTERPRETED IN THAT WAY LIKE IMAGINE HER SINGING ABOUT HOW MUCH HE SUCKS WHILE STILL HAVING THE ORIGINAL INSTRUMENTAL. (also considering what he did to her, "let's take a breather" sounds very... sad) about her getting getcha. let's just. let her have her girlboss moment one last time.

we're getting another insect themed mv!! (though spider isn't really an insect but kei's t2 mv also had butterfly motifs so...) the caterpillar motif won't be that strong in asahi's mv description, but it will be there. i think i should draw him in his t3 mv outfit to show it better.. i think his hitojichi koukan cover would sound very cute and sad and the lyrics describe his relationship with satsuki so well.. ("no matter how much you love me, all i do is get itchy", "i can't drag you along so let's say goodbye", "after all, i want to make you my servant") YES ANOTHER VELL SONG I LOVE VELL'S SONGS OKAY they're so short but so catchy.. i feel like the voice that i imagine asahi to have would fit perfectly, like it'd sound so cute, but so punchable, like this kid goes "noooo, relationships are more important than money!!" and then literally the next lyrics are "money and personal connections make the world go round" 😭😭 but also, to be more serious, the lyrics are very asahicore!! ("naturally i always put myself first", "it's boring that people's desires never end", "in a nutshell i do that because it's funny to me", "that's a trust relationship! if it's not enough, you should buy it") about his umbilical cover... well. first of all, again, it'd sound cute! but also, um. considering the way his biological mom died, i thought that him getting this song would be very. ironic.

her voice drama's title is a sailor moon reference and her original song's title can be seen as a spongebob reference. i cannot take this woman seriously. but i actually like her mv's aesthetic a lot! i should definitely draw her in her t3 mv outfit one day.. (i say that even though i still haven't drawn her as that monster from her t2 mv. so sorry yurikers..) I HAD TO GIVE HER SALAMANDER OKAY!! I HAD TO!! it's literally perfect for one of the hunger prisoners, it's very yurikacore and the lyrics remind me a lot of her relationship with takame and just her personality in general. ("i surrender, i'm already hooked, i can't function without you anymore", "can i get seconds? one more time", "i'm already obsessed, is it doing super great?") love me some toxic spicy ramen yuri <3 binomi came out VERY recently and before that i was thinking of giving her eye by kanaria simply bc of the vibes, but maretu saved me once again 🙏 the hunger theme is so strong.. yurika deserves to cover all the cannibalism songs ever.. (fun fact yurika actually WAS supposed to be a cannibal but then i changed her crime. i think her current crime fits her better but still. we could've had a cannibal prisoner everyone) and again, i went with "i love you" bc 1) her relationship with takame and 2) i think there's something beautiful and horrifying about the concept of yurika feeding takame rats that she sees as a cake while also going "why can't i just do it right", considering the huge power imbalance they had with takame being older and being her boss and giving yurika literally everything she could've asked for and making yurika feel like she owes her in the process..

OH RIKU..... and also nope, riku's mv won't exactly have a video game theme, that's shun's thing, but the lyrics will reference them a few times. riku's mv is actually one of my favorites so hopefully you guys like it too.. he's my special little boy he always gets the best mvs.. (/j i don't have any faves sjsklssl but riku definitely always gets my creative juices going) i originally wanted undead alice to be his t2 cover but chimera is just so rikucore and i thought it'd go with his t2 mv really well, so i changed it though i still think that maybe chimera would be better as his t3 cover bc of the guilty verdict vibes chimera has.. so anyway undead alice is literally yueriku ("live by feeding on me, since you can’t go out like you want to", "i'm starting to hate the butterflies in my stomach, so please die before i kill you", "let’s bury this cowardly love here, let’s stop and forget all this, it’s better to hate since it's easier that way" AND BASICALLY THE WHOLE SONG). about shinitagari, i actually was planning to assign it to riku as a cover back when i first came up with him and riku's character even was kinda inspired by it! except shinitagari has a more positive meaning meanwhile riku took "wanna die? go ahead and die then" a bit too literally.. also yeah, he's the one who gets inmf this time. i imagine him making a rock cover of it too.. he surely took his guilty verdict well <3

reina's album cover doesn't really have much to show but i think it actually fits her character a lot. also idk if it's that noticeable, but i tried to make her album cover more glitchy than the others. when it comes to her deco cover, i mostly went with it bc of her name meaning, but some lyrics are very reinacore (+ they remind me a lot of her relationship with her brother)! ("so please, shut up before i feel too embarrassed to speak to you again", "because no matter how many times you fool me with "i'm going to change," it'll just end all over again", "so let’s play the "whose fault is it game," the rules are rather hard, even for the winners") hello dystopia reminds me a lot of her character in general and i also just think she deserves to get at least one cover where she goes absolutely wild. fake actor and triage are just her being all sad but in hello dystopia she can go a little insane!! a little crazy even!!

linagram t3 designs info!
hi 👋 so this time we're going without character profiles because it takes. too much time for me to write them and it also just feels kinda awkward to write them now because it's all just "well.. this character sure has changed.. yeah"
so these are the prisoners' t3 designs and i'm going to talk about the changes i've made a little bit.
(also this time i went with drawing everyone's pupil shapes on their restraints because i got tired of drawing the milgram symbols every time. i think it looks cute)
Akio still has bandages on his head because of his injury, but he doesn't have them on his neck anymore, showing that he stopped hurting himself. His hair is still messy and it also got a bit longer on one side. His eyes are still empty as well, showing that he's still not over his season 2 punishment and he's still physically and mentally traumatized. As for his outfit, he's still wearing his school uniform, but at least he got a new jacket. Originally I was going to give him a completely different outfit, but I thought that him still wanting to wear his uniform would fit his character better.
Aimi's design hasn't changed that much. She got a new hairstyle, her hair is much shorter now and she still has the same ice cream hair clip. Her pupils have also changed a bit: her pupils used to be shaped like a broken heart and now they look like complete hearts, but they also look darker, implying that she thinks she got better, but in reality the girl is becoming more and more unstable. Her prison uniform has changed and she doesn't have a few of her restraints anymore, showing that she's getting more freedom thanks to her innocent verdicts.
Shun's hair has grown and his ahoge has changed to show that he didn't take his guilty verdict well. He has those "crazy swirly eyes" going on just like in the second season and he even has that shape on his restraints as well. Oh, he's wearing an eyepatch now as well, just like Kei :) Don't worry about it. He's still wearing the same outfit he wore in season 2.
Naomi's hair is MUCH more messy now, her eyes are empty, her dark circles got worse, she's overall looking more disheveled, we love to see it. At least she still has a smile on her face.
Kei's design has changed a lot. That's what a 100% innocent verdict does to you. His hair is much longer now, and I honestly couldn't decide if he would have it tied in a ponytail or let it down while I was drawing his design, but now I think he would most likely have a ponytail, just a very messy and fluffy one. He's no longer wearing his sunglasses! Yes, he got new ones from Reina, but he decided he doesn't need them anymore. Character development, I guess?.. He got a new eyepatch as well, a much cuter one. He still kept the mask from season 2 and you can interpret it in any way you like, like maybe he simply thought it was cool or maybe he's still insecure about his appearance. He got a completely new outfit and even his prison uniform has changed and it now doesn't have sleeves.
EIKO'S DESIGN IS MY FAVORITE ONE SHE'S SERVING AND NOT ONLY A SENTENCE. She got a haircut, she got the guilty prisoner's empty eyes and dark circles, she got new earrings as well (and they look a lot like Milgram's logo..). Her uniform looks a bit torn and Shun gave her the jacket he used to wear in season 1 so that she can feel more comfortable. The jacket is a bit too big for her, but she doesn't mind. Her prison uniform also doesn't have sleeves anymore, just like Kei's.
Asahi's hair is also a bit longer now and he went back to his ponytail from season 1. He's actually wearing the same hat the cat plushie from his 2023 birthday art had! He got a different shirt and he's also wearing a cute skirt now. I should draw him wearing skirts more often honestly. He looks more nervous here than on his season 2 art.. I wonder what happened..
OH YURIKA. THE GIRL'S UNIFORM IS TORN, SHE'S MISSING MOST OF HER RESTRAINTS AND THE ONES SHE STILL HAS AREN'T EVEN RESTRAINING HER ANYMORE, SHE HAS LIKE THE HALF OF HER PRISON UNIFORM'S SKIRT MISSING AND WORST OF ALL SHE'S STILL WEARING THE SAME OUTFIT SHE WORE IN THE FIRST TWO SEASONS. The worst thing that came out of Yurika getting two guilty verdicts in a row was her never getting a new outfit to wear under her uniform. She also doesn't look that angry anymore, she just looks like she completely lost her mind. She probably did.
Riku's hair is black again and without any highlights. That's what he looks like with only his natural hair color. He's another member of the "my hair got longer! wow!" squad. His uniform looks torn and messy as well and the same goes for the outfit that he's wearing under it and it's the same one that he used to wear in season 2. He's missing some of his accessories and he stopped painting his nails and doing his makeup.
Reina's design is giving me extremely strong nonbinary or transmasc vibes and I feel like Reina isn't 100% cis but she's in a prison and she has another trial to go through so she doesn't have the time for that rn. She got a new hairstyle and her pupils are completely black now. Oh girl, what is going on inside your head.. She's also wearing a different jacket now, this one has a hood. I like to imagine that she misses the feeling of wearing a hat a bit, so she still kinda wants her head to be covered, but she refuses to wear hats because it reminds her of her delinquent era.

deleted MV scenes!
I'M FINALLY DONE WITH THESE DJSJKDKD
anyway, this is just a collection of scenes and concepts and themes that were originally supposed to appear in some prisoners' t2 mvs, but for one reason or another i've ended up not going with them. perhaps i will add one or two of these into their future mvs, who knows!
- One of the first ideas I had about Akio's MV was adding some chess motifs and there was supposed to be a scene with Akio and Arata playing chess together, Akio losing to him and Arata opening his mouth and revealing that one of the pieces was on his tongue. Yes, it was basically a "smart kid not understanding how he's losing to me and me who's been eating his pieces when he wasn't looking". And now it's possible that Deep Cover will have a chess theme. Canongram stop stealing my ideas!! /j
- Fun fact: that scene was deleted not only because I don't know anything about chess, but also because Arata was supposed to be shown in a very sympathetic way, explaining Akio's obsession with him. His true colors will be shown in Akio's T3 MV though.
- I also had a thought about adding a scene where when Akio's getting hanged, MV focuses on Akio's neck and then the video suddenly cuts to Chise's neck and shows that even though both of them died the same way, Chise has noticeable red marks on his neck, implying that the murder methods were actually a bit different.
- Shun's MV had a huge number of different concepts, for example, I was thinking of his MV having a royal theme, but that concept was abandoned after I finished writing Akio's MV and also I thought of his MV having a casino theme? I will not elaborate. I also really wanted his MV to have a wedding theme, but then Mahiru's album cover was revealed and I got scared that his MV will be too similar to hers, so I changed it. But Mahiru's MV theme turned out to be different, so I can already say that another prisoner will most likely get a MV with a wedding scene in season 3.
- Some examples of deleted scenes from the wedding MV: There were several wedding cakes, but all of them looked different and had different decorations (I forgot what they're called..) and if you looked closer, you could notice that next to the small figure of Shun, the small figures of brides were all different. Shun was also supposed to propose to his "ex" and it looked all cute and romantic in his head, but in reality Hina looked at him with disgust and fear and rejected him.
- In the end, Shun was supposed to be shown sitting and watching TV with Kei, who looked like he was about to cry while Shun held his hand and smiled.
- I had a LOT of concepts for Kei's MV in mind, and before I started writing Naomi's MV, I was thinking of giving him a "devil form" or a scene that takes place in hell instead of Naomi. But I thought that would be too obvious or predictable for someone like him and instead gave it to Naomi.
- There was also a possibility of Kei getting a MV with an art theme, but I thought it would be too similar to Aimi's T1 MV. The MV was also supposed to show Kei painting a portrait of Ruka.
- Kei's "almost final" MV was supposed to start like this: everything is completely black and then we see a coffin the same color as Kei's image color and there's a spider web drawn on it and we see Ruka walking closer to it and opening it. Kei is asleep and then Ruka kisses him and forcefully drags him out of it. It was supposed to mean that not only Kei helps Ruka feel "more alive", it's the same for Ruka helping Kei and it also was supposed to be a reference to Snow White. Why Snow White? It's up to you to figure out :)
- Kei's almost final MV was supposed to reveal a lot about his past, but then I was like "We don't even know a lot about his crime. Why should I reveal his backstory here".
- For example, Kei's younger version was supposed to be shown and he was supposed to follow older Kei around and find his current lifestyle shocking meanwhile older Kei found his younger version embarrassing.
- There was also a scene of Kei getting cannibalized by the women he killed and the lyrics referenced his VD title and him existing only for others' entertainment.
- The first concept I had in mind for Eiko's MV was her going on a date with Takeru, but since he lied to her and pretended to be someone else and she didn't even know what he looked like, he would change his appearance every few seconds and in the end Eiko was supposed to "take off his mask" and reveal that Takeru was a corpse all this time. Shun's MV ended up having a similar scene instead, with him talking to Hina and her boyfriend even though both of them are dead.
- Asahi and Yurika's MV concepts didn't change much, but I just find it interesting how Kei saw what those women did to him as actual cannibalism meanwhile Yurika, despite her theme and her MV's aesthetic, still saw a lot of the scary things as candy, chocolate and all that stuff. Kinda reminds me that she's still very young even if she's legally an adult and how her parents forced her to live alone hoping that she would become more mature..
- There was also a scene with Asahi going full John mode and breaking everything with a bat, showing how he doesn't care about the things Satsuki buys for him.
- Riku had a completely different MV concept at first. Yes, he was still supposed to be a famous musician, but most of the MV was supposed to take place at this really cool house and Riku was supposed to be shown as someone who lives a very comfortable life, someone who's both rich and talented, but overall feels empty on the inside. There was also a scene with his friend's ghost haunting the place where he lives.
- In the end Riku and Yue were supposed to fall together from the roof of an insanely high building and Riku would be shown as the only survivor and everyone would ignore Yue's body. Riku was supposed to look at his body with disgust and turn back to his friends and fans while wearing a suit covered in Yue's blood and the last scene would reveal that Riku is missing a shoe.
- I also wanted Riku's MV to have a vampire theme, as a reference to Riku and Yue's relationship, with both of them drinking each other's blood even though it hurts them and they need human blood and not the blood of another vampire. But then I read what I wrote again and went ".. No, I won't be able to continue saying that Riku and Yue's relationship was platonic after this".

OH THIS ONE IS INTERESTING...
Akio: Do I have to answer this.. Why would you ask me that anyway? Is this because of the answer I gave during my second interrogation?.. Fine. I think love is.. Always staying by your lover's side. Never leaving them. Never betraying them. Always being honest with them. Being so loyal to them, you could die for them. Um.. Haha, so he never did any of those things..
Aimi: Hmm, I've never had a significant other, so it's hard to say, haha.. Well, I think love is when you two feel safe around each other! It's when you can trust your partner with anything and know that they won't break their promise and they won't leave you no matter what you do. And no matter what, they will never judge you. Ah, I think you can say the same about platonic and familial love too!
Shun: U-um.. Let's see.. Well, it's obviously going on dates and.. Uh.. Doing all the romantic stuff, y-you know?.. D-do I have to tell you all the details?.. Y-you're looking at me like I don't know anything about romance. And I do know about it, please believe me! I mean, I did have a girlfriend.. A-anyway, love is something that I will never be complete without. I need to be loved. It's like.. If I'm loved, it means someone in this world appreciates me, right? They would probably be sad if something happened to me..
Naomi: Um.. I never was that interested in romance, so I can't really- Hm? It doesn't have to be romantic? I see.. Well, I can't even tell you that much about platonic love.. I'm sorry, I'm really boring when it comes to that, haha. But if I had to think about it more.. Maybe it's when others don't expect anything from you? You can be anything you want to be and you're still wanted and appreciated.. It sounds nice when I think about it, actually.
Kei: Heyyyy, didn't you say that someone like me can't know anything about love? Haha, well, as I've said before, I believe that pain and love can't be separated. Why? The thing is, if someone puts you through so much pain every single day, but you still choose to stay with them and don't even think about leaving them.. Yeah, that's love to me. And if you truly love someone, you'll be okay with them hurting you in some way. That's what Mom used to say. And I love her. You love her too, Eiji. You've never even tried to run away, after all.
Eiko: You're probably not gonna believe me, but I actually wasn't interested in love at all until I.. well, met that guy. I thought it was just a stupid waste of time, just like friendship and all that stuff. But hey, of course I felt lonely. My relationships never had any meaning, the only somewhat deep relationship I have is the one with my dad. So, if you were to ask me about love.. I think love is when your relationship with someone has some kind of meaning. Maybe it makes you happy. Maybe it wants you to keep living. Maybe it makes you feel like you have some kind of purpose. You just know that if something happened to that person, you would feel like your life has become incomplete. That's love to me.
Asahi: E-eh?.. I know that I'm more mature than other kids, but like.. Ugh, fine. So, uh, I think love is when someone gives you everything you could ever want from them. N-no, I'm not just talking about food and toys and that stuff! Though that's also important, of course.. But like.. I-if you asked them for a hug, they'd be okay with it.. And if you asked them to spend time with you, they'd still agree even if they're busy.. A-anyway, I know I'll be popular when I grow up, but right now I don't care about all that. I just wanna have fun and I don't want to think about anything.. Uh, "serious".
Yurika: Your question is simple, so my answer will be the same. It's what I felt for my boss. S-she wasn't just a manager to me. She actually gave me a reason to live. She showed me that I still have worth even if I'm not that smart, not that hardworking and not that productive. She's not like my parents at all and those guys are rich, but still wanted me to work! H-huh?.. "Did you see your manager as your lover or your mother figure?".. Uh.. B-both?
Riku: Let me think.. Well, there's many different types of love, you know? I don't really know which one you want me to talk about.. Oh, so like, love in general? Um.. For some reason, it's still hard for me to think of an answer.. Maybe something like, even if you get sad or angry sometimes, they still understand you and still willing to listen to you? Like, they won't go "Come on, cheer up already!" Oh, also they respect your privacy and personal space, that one's important. Even if I love them, I don't want them to call me at 3 am and start telling me the tragic story of how their cat died when they were eight, thank you very much.. Y-yeah, that did happen to me once.
Reina: I don't know much about it, so I'm afraid my answer won't be that interesting. But maybe.. it's when someone still wants to be with you even if they've seen your worst qualities? No, I don't mean any of that "But I still find them beautiful" kind of stuff. That's actually kinda concerning. It's like, they won't leave you if they see you fighting with someone and yelling at them, but they also won't tell you that you were in the right for acting like that, if you really were in the wrong.
Eiji: It's when all sinners get what they deserve. They get the punishments that fit their sins and they have no choice but to accept it, meanwhile the innocent ones get to finally live a peaceful life. And before you ask me, no, nobody in this prison is innocent except me and Guard 002.
Miki: I'm not really as passionate about it as Eiji-san, but.. I think it's when people who did something bad without any reason and don't feel any remorse get.. I-I don't want to say "punished", but.. Basically, they're not able to do anything to the innocent people anymore. I want to believe that everyone in this prison is innocent and everyone had their own reasons and if it wasn't for those reasons, they would never kill anyone.. But I'm not so sure anymore. So if someone in this prison really is guilty.. I guess I'll have to make sure they don't hurt the innocent.
Hiyuu: I think it's when all people are treated as equals. Even if someone is guilty, I won't treat them like a villain. I will punish them, because that's my job as a guard, but it doesn't mean I genuinely want their life to get worse and it doesn't mean I want them to die. I just want them to see what will happen if they continue to act this way. Pain is the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone, so I believe that even if that someone really did something bad, they should be treated with respect if they're in pain. So you can trust me, my punishments won't be that bad, haha.

there's only one prisoner pair left to judge! and riku's case still doesn't feel that easy to me. i have no idea what verdict he's gonna get this time.
speaking of warnings below: riku really does talk more about his murder in this vd and about his mental health problems as well. i was a little scared of writing this one because sometimes i feel like riku's character is too, uh.. edgy, maybe? or just too depressing? however, i also want to show that his relationship with his victim, his family and other people really messed him up to the point of wanting to be in pain himself and wanting others to be in pain as well.
Warnings for Riku's VD: Mentions of self-harm and suicide. Also, Riku, if you're able to get out of here, promise that you will immediately get therapy after that.

Riku: I was always surrounded by those who were in pain.
Riku: And I always had to do everything for them. I had to give up so many things for them.
Riku: Of course, I would go and try to comfort my "friend" even if I didn't want anything to do with him. Of course, I would stay home and not go to any concerts, because if I did go, it would look like I don't care about my brother at all. Of course, I would write more sad songs and make myself sad in the process because people like them more.
Riku: I was sick of it. I was so tired of it, I started to hate literally everyone around me. It was so bad that when I saw someone trip and their friend helping them get up, I would get so angry, I would have to leave so that I wouldn't try to beat up those people just for not giving their attention to me.
Riku: And then, one day..
Riku: People finally saw me in pain.
Riku: I finally opened up. I finally told them how I really feel.
Riku: And considering my popularity, they went insane. They were ready to do anything to make me happy.
Riku: I know how to use my pain to make people feel sorry for me. And it looks like it had worked with you and even Eiji-san.
Riku: So please, don't be mad at me for still doing that.
Riku: I know how to put on a show. And if you two need to see me in pain just so that you can forgive me later, I will make it as bloody as you want.
Riku: .. Miki?
Miki: ...
Miki: *starts crying* I'm sorry, Riku-san. I'm so sorry.
Riku: .. Heh.
Riku: Works like a charm.
Miki: .. Just another reminder that my forgiveness has limits.

Riku: Ah, right, I haven't told you his name. Yeah, that's him.
Riku: I was friends with Shiozaki Yue since I was like.. seven years old? Maybe younger.
Miki: .. And he's your victim, isn't he?
Riku: .. Yeah.
Riku: Hey, what did my video tell you exactly? Like, did it show you all the details? Oh, also, did you like my song?
Miki: Your video felt like.. At first, I could see how popular and how loved you are.
Miki: But then, I saw you texting your friends and after you saw their messages, you started crying.
Miki: I didn't get the ending of it though. It felt like..
Miki: You were on the school rooftop with your friends and then you pushed someone off the roof while telling them to jump.
Riku: !
Riku: Ahaha..
Riku: Wow, that sounds scary.
Riku: Again, was the song good though-
Miki: Now, back to your.. um, behavior.
Miki: .. Why did you tell Miyagawa-san to "go and die"?
Riku: ...
Riku: *laughs* Come on, Miki, did you really have to bring that up?
Riku: I almost forgot about it and you really had to ruin it for me, haha..
Miki: How can you forget about it when you have to look at Miyagawa-san's injury every day?
Riku: I just try to ignore him. That's all.
Riku: If he tries to talk to me even after all of that..
Riku: .. That's his fault. Not mine.
Miki: You knew that he likes you a lot. Why did you..
Miki: Why did you have to be so cruel to him?!
Riku: Because I hate him, Miki.
Riku: This guy likes me only because I remind him of someone. I know that for sure.
Riku: He doesn't like the real me. He would never accept the real me.
Riku: Listen, that's just what us, popular guys, do. We smile, we say hi, we say how good everyone looks today, we say that we'd be glad to hang out with someone, even if we actually wish that person was dead.
Riku: 'Cause that's how reputation works! Say one wrong word and that's it, you're out.
Riku: .. And I can't have that. My family only sees me as someone who has to take care of my siblings, even though I'm not even the oldest. My "best friend" only sees me as a guy he can vent to and project his pain onto.
Riku: My school was the only place where I was loved and accepted by everyone.
Miki: But.. what's the difference between pretending for your family and Shiozaki-san and pretending for your classmates?
Riku: It's simple: my classmates were obsessed with me.
Riku: They wanted to be like me. They wanted to be with me. They wanted to be noticed by me.
Riku: And I continued to play along just because it's nice to feel like somebody's idol.
Miki: .. Is that also the reason why it was so hard for you to stop being friends with Shiozaki-san? He liked you a lot, didn't he?
Riku: .. Well, I can't deny that it is a part of the reason why I couldn't just say "Hey, I think we should go our separate ways".
Miki: And is this also why you couldn't just be honest with Miyagawa-san when you first met him? Because it was nice to feel like you're important to him?
Riku: Yeah, so what? Are you really gonna judge me for just wanting to be liked?
Miki: I'm not gonna judge you for wanting to be liked, but I will judge you for manipulating other people's feelings.
Miki: A-anyway, we don't have much time left.
Miki: So, about your crime..
Miki: What exactly did you do?
Miki: I just don't understand. I know why you did it, but I don't understand how it happened.
Riku: What exactly you don't understand then?
Miki: Uh..
Miki: ... Okay, here it goes.
Miki: Did your friend kill himself because of you or did you kill him yourself?
Riku: ...
Riku: Um..
Riku: It's.. actually very hard to explain.
Riku: But before I do that..
Riku: *stands up*
Riku: Promise me that you will forgive me.
Miki: ...
Riku: I will do anything to make you forgive me. Do you want to see me on my knees? Do you want to see all my scars? Do you want me to just stab myself right in front of you?
Riku: One word and I'll do it. I'm okay with dying, honestly.
Miki: .. But if you die, what's the point of me forgiving you then?
Riku: .. I-I don't know.
Riku: Hearing "I forgive you" sounds nice, haha.
Riku: So, do you promise-
Miki: .. You're so stupid, Riku.
Riku: Huh?
(sounds of Miki standing up and pushing Riku against the wall)
Riku: !
Riku: T-that was unexpected..
Riku: .. Are you crying?
Miki: YES, I AM CRYING BECAUSE YOU'RE SUCH AN IDIOT!
Miki: YOU'RE WILLING TO THROW AWAY YOUR LIFE LIKE THAT JUST BECAUSE "HEARING SOMEBODY FORGIVE YOU SOUNDS NICE"?! ARE YOU THAT DUMB?!
Miki: WHAT'S THE POINT OF ME FORGIVING YOU IF I WON'T BE ABLE TO SAVE YOU?
Miki: .. Actually, maybe forgiveness isn't always the right way to save someone..
Riku: Haha, so punishing someone is a better way of saving them? Sounds kinda messed up..
Miki: ARE YOU SAYING THAT YOUR WAY OF THINKING ISN'T MESSED UP?!
Riku: .. So, you're not gonna forgive me this time?
(the bell rings, machinery sounds)
Miki: .. It depends on what your video is going to show me.
Riku: .. Haha, okay, challenge accepted.

Miki: And if I still do vote you guilty?

Riku: Are you sure? In my hands pretty much anything can become a weapon.
Miki: .. You won't do anything serious to yourself this time, right?
Riku: Haha, trust me, I'm strong enough to do it. And brave enough too.

The video starts with Riku sitting in what appears to be a limousine. He looks really nervous and he keeps pulling his sleeves down and taking deep breaths.

However, as soon as he steps out of a limousine, he looks fine and he gives everyone a bright smile. He gets greeted by a huge number of fans who all look excited to see him and some of them even push each other to try and get closer to him.

I love you all back, trust me, it's true"
He simply keeps walking as he smiles at everyone and waves at them. When you look closer, you can see that all of his fans are actually wearing collars. It's like.. they're his pets or something.
"How can I not love you? You listen to my every word, my every command
No matter what I do, you will protect me
Look at me, I'm like a trendsetter, no matter what I do, people will follow my lead"
He suddenly stops walking as he sees a familiar face in that crowd. It's the white-haired boy again and now we can actually see his face and what he looks like. He looks even happier than all of Riku's fans, but Riku is not happy to see him at all. He tries to ignore him.
"I love all of you, yes, every single one of you, but not you though
Hey, it's okay for celebrities like me to be a little hypocritical!"
Now, we can see Riku on the stage, preparing for his concert with his bandmates. Everything goes fine if we ignore his fans looking more and more insane as the show goes on and it looks like he is actually having fun. The chorus plays.
"Now, listen, I don't like to do this
I'm not the type to abuse my power
But looks like it's time for you to get what you deserve
So get him, everyone, I'll pat you on the head later"
When the concert ends, we can see him giving autographs to his fans, talking to them and taking photos with them. But then, suddenly, the white-haired boy walks up to him and we can see that he's not wearing a collar.
"See? You don't belong here
You're not as perfect as them, so why don't you leave?
Maybe act a little bit more obedient next time?
Come on, just do it, just follow my lead"
Riku tries to pretend that everything is fine and it looks like he's asking what the boy needs, but then Yue hugs him tightly, making both of them fall in the process. The song stops playing for a moment.
Riku is shocked and he tries to get up, but the boy doesn't let him. Eventually, Riku gets sick of it and yells at the boy, slaps him and pushes him away. Riku breathes heavily and starts getting more and more anxious as he sees that everyone is staring at him and the boy.
"Breathe in, breathe out
You've done this before, you can do it again
Breathe in, breathe out
And even if something goes wrong, just do it, embrace the pain"
The setting changes and now it looks like we're at Riku's house, though it looks more cool and fancy this time, he is a famous singer in his video after all. We can see Riku walking into his bedroom and he looks more pale and tired than usual and his hair is more messy. As he tries to wipe the blood under his nose with his hand, he sees his phone screen light up and checks it. He sees that everyone is talking about what happened after the concert between him and Yue and he almost drops his phone because of that.
However, he's still curious and he starts reading what the fans are saying about it and..
All of them are trying their best to defend him.
They keep saying that it's the boy's fault and Riku was in the right. They say how they will support Riku no matter what and they still love him some people are even saying that they would love to take the boy's place for no particular reason at all.
"Why are you all still fighting for me?
Why are you still trying to protect me?
Why do you still love me?"
At first Riku can't believe that this is happening, but when he understands that all of this is real.. He starts laughing. He actually looks like he has lost his mind, he can't believe that his fans are still with him even after that.
"Look at me, I'm like a trendsetter, no matter what I do, people will follow my lead
If I say something, you will say it louder
If I hurt someone, you will make it more painful
If I kill someone, you will dance on their grave"
However, he stops laughing as he sees one person make a post saying "Shouldn't he apologize for doing that though?". He starts reading the comments under that post and sees his fans defending him and saying that there's no point in him apologizing. Riku looks relieved and he simply puts his phone back on the table.
Several days pass and it's time for another concert. Riku is seen greeting the fans again and this time he looks genuinely happy, but no, Yue is here again. Riku looks terrified and he can't move because of how scared he is.
"What is wrong with you? Do you hate me this much?
You don't love me, I know that for sure
Your eyes are different from theirs, the way you move is different
It's like you're free, it's like I can't control you"
The boy just keeps walking up closer and closer to him and Riku sees how all of his fans are this close to killing the boy on spot for his sake.
Riku gets an idea and as Yue is about to hug him again, he suddenly snaps his fingers and his fans' collars light up. The chorus starts playing again and this time it's louder. Suddenly, all of his fans turn into dogs and attack Yue as Riku keeps casually walking away.
"But looks like it's time for you to get what you deserve
So get him, everyone, I'll pat you on the head later"
As the white-haired boy is getting mauled (thankfully, it's not that visible), Riku simply gets up on the stage and starts singing, but without his bandmates. His fans turn back into humans again, but even though they look like humans, it's hard to say that they're not just animals that exist only to follow Riku's orders.
"Look at me, look at me, ignore everyone else's pain
I'm the only one you feel sorry for, I'm the only one you should pity
Don't look at anyone else, I'm the only one you need
I'll make you feel better as you make me feel worse"
They can't take their eyes off him and because of how huge the crowd is, it's hard to see the bloody mess behind them. And as if everything couldn't get worse, as Riku keeps singing, the blood on his body and clothes is becoming more and more noticeable.
"Look at me, keep your eyes on me
Everything else is a lie, I'm the only part of your world that matters
Do you feel sorry for me yet? Do you want to forgive me?
Am I doing a good job? Does my life even matter?"
It looks like he just got some blood on himself from.. well, that boy, but as the MV continues, it's becoming more and more obvious that it's actually Riku's blood and he keeps bleeding out as he sings and dances.
"SO JUST PRAISE ME BEFORE I FORGET HOW TO-"
Before he can finish singing, we get a close-up of him putting his hand on his throat and he realizes that he has lost his voice. The MV abruptly ends.

[ meet the prisoners! (t2 edition) ] prisoner 009: kuroki riku
OH GOD THIS BOY... THIS BOY. yeah, even though he got voted inno, riku is still. um. yeah he's going through it. he's happy with his verdict though.
(Warning: Riku's extremely self-destructive habits aren't described in detail here (it's more about why he does those things and not how he does them), but they are still mentioned and they're still a big part of his character)
General info.
T1 Verdict: Riku was voted innocent which is probably supposed to be a good thing.. except it's kinda not. Riku's ideas were affirmed, so he still thinks that his crime "wasn't even a crime" and his victim deserved it, but he also started treating other people a bit.. differently, possibly hinting at how exactly his crime went. Him telling Akio to "go and die" instead of just asking him to leave him alone is a good example. Perhaps now he thinks that it's a normal thing to do and that all people that he doesn't like deserve to die. Or maybe he's just really emotional and impulsive. Or maybe both. Also, if we're talking about Riku's ideas and thoughts.. It should be mentioned that you can not only change (or at least try to change) the prisoners' thoughts about their crimes, you can change their entire mindset. And so.. Not only Riku's thoughts about his crime were affirmed, but his thoughts about himself, his life and other people were as well. Which means, sadly, he thinks that he was forgiven not because the guards really do think he's innocent and they think his crime isn't that serious, but because of how he tried to make them feel sorry for him when he had cut himself. And now he thinks that it's the only way to make them forgive him and that they won't "feel his pain" if they won't be able to see it with their own eyes. It's like he sees his own pain as a "performance" of some kind and the guards as his "audience".. Or maybe he actually has a bigger audience to impress than he thinks? Well, if we want to talk about something that isn't as sad, he got a new outfit and a new dye job. He's used to dyeing his hair without any help, so he was able to do it himself. For some reason, he's not exactly satisfied with it though, so he will most likely change it later. When Miki asked him about it, he just laughed and said that it "reminds him of someone that he would rather forget".
T2 Personality: .. Listen, it was pretty much impossible to fix this guy between Trial 1 and Trial 2. So even though he got voted innocent, it's hard to say that he's more confident now, like Shun, or more calm, like Naomi. Yes, he absolutely thinks he was in the right, but.. at what cost? He has at least one mental breakdown every week and he has two broken guitars in his cell now. There are multiple reasons why Riku is acting like this now and one of them is that again, he genuinely thinks that the guards voted him innocent only because of what he did to himself. And he wants them to forgive him again, so he really wants them to understand just how much pain he had felt while being friends with his victim. You think he just wants them to feel sorry? You think he's just doing it for the attention?.. He doesn't really want to admit it, but it's kinda true. He doesn't think it's a bad thing though. Of course he wants attention. He literally lives for it. And if this is how he can make people look at him, then he's okay with bleeding to death in front of his audience. He doesn't want to.. you know, actually die, but if this is the only way he can make people notice him and feel the same emotions and pain that he's feeling, then he will do it. Just please, look at him. Don't leave him alone. Ah, speaking of that. Yeah, another reason why he's acting like this is that Riku is very lonely now. He's so used to being surrounded by friends and people who adore him and want to be like him or with him that he just can't accept the fact that he has like zero friends in this prison now.. Except one person, though their relationship is actually pretty hard to explain.
T2 Relationship dynamics:
Riku claims that what happened between him and Akio was completely Akio's fault and that he had "provoked" him to say what he ended up saying. Except when the guards asked him about what Akio told him, Riku refused to explain. Some other prisoners said that they only heard Akio begging Riku to tell him that everything will be fine and he still likes him. Riku says that there was more than that and that he really did have a reason to basically tell Akio to go and kill himself. Riku avoids Akio and if he sees him somewhere, he either immediately leaves or tries not to look at him and just ignores him. If Akio tries to talk to him, Riku says that he has to go and again, he just leaves. When Miki asked him if he feels sorry for Akio, he couldn't answer and just turned away from her.
Aimi and Riku are not even pretending to be friends anymore. Riku doesn't try to act nice and polite around her anymore and Aimi refuses to forgive him and if he even looks at Akio, she will leave with her new friend right after that. Riku is not really sad about it since, to be honest, he never really liked Aimi and was friendly with her only because he didn't want to ruin his reputation since most prisoners were nice to her (even if they also weren't sincere about it). He actually feels more free in a way just like he did after his crime even if that feeling didn't last long.
Riku and Miki's relationship is really complicated. Are they just a guard and a prisoner? Are they friends? Are they lovers? They don't know either. But there's definitely something going on between them. Riku is very attached to her and really wants her to give him more attention but since the girl is very busy with the prisoners' requests, everyone's verdicts, taking care of the prisoners and making sure nobody kills each other, it's not really possible. Asahi is also very protective of her and he doesn't want her to become closer with any of the prisoners, including Riku, so yeah, that kid doesn't let him spend time with her too. Miki is attracted to him, but it's hard to say if she really does want to be in a relationship with him. She really does want to protect him, but does she see him as someone who is actually very important to her or does she see him as another "poor thing that needs to be saved"? However, Riku does flirt with her sometimes and he even asked if she would be okay with dating him after (or if) they get out and Miki, without even thinking, said yes. She regrets it just a little bit now. Because of their relationship's strange nature, Riku doesn't use any honorifics when he talks about Miki anymore meanwhile Miki isn't sure how to refer to him anymore and sometimes she doesn't use any of them either, though she usually "corrects" herself. In his voice drama she refers to him as "Riku-san", using his first name instead of his last name, just like she did in his first VD.
Music info.
Milgram cover: Surprisingly, he gets Half. Totally not because I didn't know what else to give him. Maybe it could be like.. a very soft rock-like cover?? I don't know how to explain it. Oh, but if you're thinking that this song fits him because of his relationship with his friend.. Well, not exactly, because I actually see this cover as Riku pretending to feel sorry for his victim. Like, look at him, he's singing a sad song about his friend who died because of him, don't you want to forgive him? I can even imagine his cover sounding kinda fake, like, it would still sound very pretty, but you'd be able to tell that Riku doesn't actually feel anything and he doesn't actually care about his victim. Asahi's cover would be more emotional compared to Riku's.
DECO*27 cover: NOW THIS IS AN INTERESTING ONE. You see, there were two songs I had in mind for him and I was like "Okay, we'll use this one for T2 and this one for T3", but.. then I looked at his MV and his VD and realized that him getting the song I wanted to use for T2 wouldn't really make sense, because his MV and VD are more about his backstory, what kind of person he is and how exactly his crime went, but the song I chose was more about his relationship with his victim and his motive and I'm planning to show it in his T3 MV. And the T3 song was actually perfect for his T2 MV, even though I feel like it has more of a "Guilty" vibe, than "Innocent" one (which is also another reason why I wanted to keep the original T2 song at first).. So anyway, he gets Chimera! IT'S SO PERFECT FOR HIM I CAN'T. (And yes, his Chimera cover would sound VERY emotional compared to Half, like he would be basically on the same level as Aimi in her After Pain cover, which means lots of screaming)
Different Vocaloid producer cover: I really did have a song I wanted to use for him this season and I had one in mind since I even came up with his character, but.. then Better Off Worse by Circus-P came out. Yeah, I just had to keep that song for T3 instead. And yeah, I imagine this one as a rock cover too! NO BUT THE LYRICS FIT HIM SO WELL IT HURTS ("Making sure that I feel pain, getting in a bitter headspace", "You listen when it hurts too much to bear", "Overanalyze my broken heart as the tempo kicks up a notch", "Because I know my woes are a product to be consumed", "Bleed out for audience approval, tragic but perfectly on schedule, you think by now that we would have learned, behind every piece of art is a human to be heard") Like this song describes exactly how he's feeling right now.. And also, fun fact: Riku is one of the bilingual/multilingual characters along with Akio, Kei and a couple of others! Another fun (or not so) fact: I was actually thinking of assigning this song to Kei at first.

Trivia:
I think I remember mentioning that Riku's image color was actually supposed to be a dark shade of green at first but then I changed it to orange, so I wanted to use that as his second image color, but when I was working on his album cover.. um. I realized that it looks kinda bad, so I changed it to a much brighter shade of green instead.
His second T2 Trailer voiceline is actually supposed to sound a bit fake, like he still sounds like he really is sorry, but you can't help but feel like he's only pretending or even mocking the person he's talking to.
I think I've never mentioned this before and I'm not sure if that was easy to tell, but Riku's natural hair color is black, so in the first season he only had these colorful highlights (?) going on and nothing else. I actually remember that when I first came up with his character design, his natural hair color was supposed to be a very soft and pastel shade of pink and Riku was supposed to be embarrassed of it, but I changed it. Another random fact is that his little sisters also have black hair, but his older brother's natural hair color is light brown.
Yes, he wants to be voted innocent this time too. He really does believe he did nothing wrong and that his "sin" can't even be considered a sin.
This was stated in the "Personality" section, but this guy literally has no one to talk to except Miki. Literally no one. Pretty much everyone either ignores him, avoids him, finds him scary and too unstable or simply thinks he's annoying, which is sad to think about because 1) Riku's T2 version is closer to his "real" personality, which means that when he's not acting like a cheerful and sociable popular boy, people stop caring about him and 2) People either can't stop him when he starts hurting himself again or they just pretend not to see it or they genuinely don't care. Again, Miki is the only one who can stop him when that happens and can calm him down.
I'm trying my best not to spoil anything, but if you want to try and guess how exactly Riku's MV is going to look like and what's gonna happen there, read his song preview lyrics again and try to, like.. Think about them more. The weirdest idea that comes to your mind is probably the correct one.
He's another character that gets a VD that actually shows him as someone who probably should be forgiven, but his MV shows him as someone who's more guilty and has this.. really creepy and weird atmosphere (in my opinion) going on.

thinking about yueriku again and. the fact that they are basically mahiru and her bf but like.. in a reverse au..
like wdym riku's t2 vd is called "the never-ending cycle of mutual pain". yue liked riku so much and gave him so much attention but that felt suffocating to riku and at the same time he couldn't end their friendship. both mahiru and riku's crimes have something to do with suicide, though riku's case is more ambiguous. and the reverse part is that in mahiru's case, it was her boyfriend (so the one "being suffocated") who ended up dying and in riku's case, it's yue (the one "suffocating him") who ended up as his victim.
