Larry wrinkles his nose, a blink-and-you'll-miss-it flash of genuine anger creasing his face before settling back into his usual smug, lazy smile.

"Well, that is what they tell me, yes. Not sure why my name would be up there in flashing neon lights if I wasn't."

He gestures to the gaudy signboard high above the entrance to his casino, about as subtle as a brick in the face and perhaps twice as disorienting. Gaze then wanders back to the individual accosting him, and he had to admit, it was nice to be able to look down at someone instead of up for once. Nice boost to the ol' ego there.

His name in giant flashing neon light helped too. Always did.

"Look, i'm sure there are a ton of other dumpsters around here! In fact! I know there are! Been in a few myself, not nearly as bad as people say! You can find some great stuff in there, people throw away the craziest things!"

Cants his head and squints, bushy eyebrows knitting together. One last attempt to seem even sort of imposing.

There was a part of Larry that still hadn't fully registered another year had passed, even as he'd watched the clock strike midnight, holding his annual New Year's Eve bash at his casino. He could blame it on all the alcohol he'd drank that night, more than enough to kill an average human. But Larry was anything but average.

And he oftentimes felt anything but human.

With the new year dawning, it dawned on Larry that about 36 years had passed since that first fateful trip to Lost Wages, to fulfill the promise he'd made to himself after losing his job, losing his home; To lose the one thing he actually wanted to lose: His virginity.

Or, failing that, taking his own life.

Dredging up the thought again made Larry sick to his stomach. He tried his best to never ruminate on that particular act of the frequently one-man play that was his life.

Larry gives Creech an incredulous look, he so wanted to write this fortune telling stuff off as a sleazy party trick, but every reading she'd given him so far had been...alarmingly on the nose, especially considering how guarded Larry preferred to keep himself.

And, Creech still wasn't privy to the whole truth about this casino, the same casino he'd now roped them into working for: The whole building was bugged, constantly being monitored by Larry's "benefactors". Those same benefactors who did... God knows what to him after he'd...

After he'd signed that contract.

Larry's mind drifts back briefly to the little fortune teller's quip about bleeding over parchment.

And he realizes, he has made a horrible, horrible mistake.

A feeling not wholly unfamiliar to him.

He bristles slightly as he hears the words tumble out of his mouth, "I-I mean, y'know, I can't have you stealing and scarfing down uncooked food on the job..!"

Larry crosses his arms with what he believes to be a very stern look on his face, but comes off as more of an indignant pout. The two of them being similar in stature didn't help all that much.

You really delve into his psyche and how he might have handled stuff that happened to him in the games and in his past, and it makes for a very dynamic and very realistic take on He He Silly Horny Little Toon Man.

// That means so much ;___; Larry means a lot to me as a character, and its (for obvious...and oftentimes completely understandable reasons) pretty easy to write him off as "gross, goofy sex game character" and like....yeah, he is to a degree, but I also think there's a lot of little quirks and elements to his character that shine through, and a lot of those really fuckin' resonate with me!

Here's some excerpts from his backstory, in The Official Book Of Leisure Suit Larry:

Guy's got abandonment issues from BOTH parents, and what reads to me very clearly, both from just textual analysis and being autistic myself, as some pretty big autistic(-coded) traits?? " like, i'm not even joking. it's basically the dick card. it even symbolizes masculine energy and powerful desires. so, i'll let you make of that what you will. but to a less phallic end, aces always represent new beginnings - there's a lot of promise for growth in new projects or ventures or relationships. "

Larry snickers a little under his breath, he should have expected something along those lines. Well, the masculine energy and powerful desires part, anyway. He was all about that shit.

He found himself ever so slightly emasculated by the size of the... wand in the illustration, but that was a feeling not wholly unfamiliar to him.

New beginnings, though.... A promise for growth? That part...threw him a little. He wouldn't dare admit it in the moment, not even to himself, but that night as he lay in bed-- alone --in his suite above the casino... that wave of something not unlike despair, that ache of something not unlike misery, washed over Larry as it so often did.

He heaved out a long sigh and turned over, absently grasping for his phone in the dark. Scrolled through his list of contacts, majority of which were fake numbers lady barflies and one-night stands gave him which he'd forgotten to clear out, until he got down to the L's.

Larry stared at the names for a minute. Or maybe two. Potentially three, he wasn't really keeping count.

He didn't know why he was hesitating.

He knew exactly why he was hesitating.

Finally, Larry managed to tap on his nephew's name, and open up the text chain. He took in a short breath, then exhaled softly.

Hi, kiddo! Its your uncle Larry! How are things? Sorry I haven't messaged you much, things have been a little bit hectic over here! That's showbiz!

It would be swell if we could hang out again sometime! Maybe you could ask your dad to gimme a call when he's able? He still has my number, right?

I love you so much.

Larry frowned, deleting that last sentence.

"That's stupid." He thinks, "Sounds like a cry for help."

I'll see you soon, yeah? Maybe the holidays!! I forgot, do you guys celebrate Christmas there? Or Hanukkah? If I were you, i'd swing for both! Double the presents LOL!

Bye bye, kiddo! Love y

Hits 'send' without a second thought because if he had those he'd never talk to anyone. He feels like he's just pulled a trigger.

Larry puts down his phone, turns onto his side and wraps himself up tight in a cocoon of blankets, closing his eyes.

It's hours before he actually drifts off to sleep.

Larry's.. shorter than your average fella, and he's naturally got a very soft, unimposing voice. He's learned (to a detriment, some would say) how to project himself and make his presence known over the years, which usually centers around being the pushiest, most obnoxious person in the room at any given time. He will hop up on somebody's shoulders if he feels he really needs to.
