//Long time, no see, it's random hcs time!
I will update this to Zinon's bio eventually but I changed his civil job. Zinon no longer works (full-time, he still maintains an affiliation) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and instead, he's now an auditor for some big international finance company. This means he does a lot of business travel and relocates somewhere new basically every week - currently, he's on a three-week travel sched + one week at home in Nicosia to "rest" (tho this man truly doesn't know what that means) and catch up on his nation work. How this will affect future rps is really only that it makes it easier for me to drop him in whatever location. If your muse meets him, just assume he's on a business trip in their country.
Recently I've also been thinking a lot about Zinon ft. cages, like, he has actually spent a lot of his life running away from different cages both physical and figurative. Being raised under the strict Byzantine court rules and religious teachings, being held like a prisoner by different empires and dictators, being trapped in unfortunate circumstances in life, and so on. He hasn't really had the luxury of choosing his own path and every time he's tried to fight against his fate, it's usually just landed him in more trouble and/or another, worse kind of cage. All this probably explains a lot about his restless lifestyle; one part due to being torn from his roots too many times and now having a hard time feeling at home anywhere and another part due to him seeing the bars of the cage again when he stops somewhere for too long. It's possible that he unconsciously relates staying in place with complacency. This flightiness has also earned him the petname "passerotto" ("little sparrow") from his lover.
Also talking about this relationship: yes Zinon is now in a committed relationship but unfortunately it's not going to be public information. As in, he might admit that he's taken, but the identity and especially the gender of his lover will be kept under wraps. If your muse does find out the identity of his boyfriend and asks about the relationship, Zinon might even straight up lie and deny everything out of fear. Why, you may ask? Bc Cy is actually one of the worst countries in Europe to be gay and also in his line of work homosexuality is still frowned upon and marginalised. He could easily lose his job and all his professional and social respect if his sexual orientation came out in the wrong company. That's why.

A day in life
6:00-6:30 - first alarm that he either snoozes or just stays in bed checking his phone and contemplating his life choices
6:30-8:00 - gets up after his second alarm, takes his meds, showers and gets dressed, (fusses with his hair for a good 20 mins and attempts to hide his dark circles with make-up), makes his morning coffee to go, says good morning to his housekeeper and gives her a list of tasks for the day
8:00-8:30 - commutes to work, maybe lets off some steam by cursing at slow drivers, has his breakfast in the car (coffee + cigarette, sometimes grabs a sandwich or a pastry from a café if he has time)
8:30-16:30 - (civil) work, takes another coffee + cigarette break around 11:00 and has lunch with his colleagues around 13:00-14:00
16:30-20:00 - daily variable free(?) time slot: goes drinking with his colleagues/friends after work, or goes to see Eser, or meets with his govt officials (and gets handed his nation paperwork/worries™), or goes to gym... or if he has nothing else planned, he might just go home early and have a nap
20:00-00:00 - gets back home, reads through his paperwork, takes a lot of smoke breaks at his balcony, makes dinner, (probably has a drink or two to try and relax), takes his meds, mindlessly watches tv/netflix until bedtime
00:00-2:00 - goes to bed, spends the first few hours tossing and turning as he has a hard time shutting his mind off, (likely to get up again for a smoke, a nightcap, or to do more paperwork)
2:00-6:00 - gets a few hours of proper sleep (but is unfortunately prone to nightmares or restless dreams esp towards the morning)
WEEKEND:
- sleeps in almost til noon if given the chance
- makes himself a big, traditional Cypriot breakfast, has brunch with Eser at his or her place, or in a restaurant on "neutral" ground
- spends more time with Eser in general if they haven't had time to see each other during the week, tries to be a better big brother to her after their troubled past
- takes walks/goes running in the Athalassa national park or in small villages in the Troodos mountains, enjoys peaceful nature and the fresh smell of pine trees
- goes to visit his village house in Pano Lefkara at least once a month and spends the weekend working in his garden, and playing tavli with old men (old friends) in cafés
- spends hours on the phone or in a video call with Ritsa, catching up after the week and planning the next time they can visit
- catches up on his paperwork (if he must)

Random headcanons time, but some time ago I was trying to count how many places Zinon has lived/spent time in during his life and I’m now copy-pasting this list from discord to my blog. (The list is not final and will likely be revised as I learn more and plot with people.)
1. Born in Cyprus around 310 BC, exact location unknown.
2. Spent his early childhood in Alexandria while his mother (Ancient Cyprus) was alive.
3. Most likely raised in Athens after his mother had passed. (Human age: toddler.)
4. Moved to Constantinople around the 4th century AD.
5. The Arab-Byzantine condominium (688-965) would have seen Zinon travelling back and forth between Constantinople and the caliphate's capital (Damascus & Harran) like a child of divorce. For him this would likely have been posed as an education opportunity (think boarding school) but really he was just being used as a pawn in politics and he likely figured that out early on. (Human age: around 10 years old.)
4. Moved back to Constantinople with the Byzantine reconquest in 965.
1. In 1185 he was (probably) kidnapped and brought to Cyprus and held prisoner for seven years by Isaac Komnenos (a guy who had beef with the Byzantine emperor and decided to claim himself the Emperor of Cyprus and then proceeded to become a horrible tyrant). During the Frankish and Venetian rule, he’d have lived in/in the vicinity of Nicosia (either as a serf or a page, I’m not 100% decided yet), and possibly also spent some time in Famagusta later on. (Human age: roughly 12 to 15 years old.)
(+1. It’s possible he’d also have visited Venice once or twice.)
4. After Nicosia and Famagusta fell to the Ottoman sieges in 1570-71, he was taken as a slave back to Constantinople (and if he wasn't taken then - in other words, died in the siege - the devshirme would have taken him a bit later). In Constantinople he was forcefully converted and studied in the palace school. (Human age: 16 years old.)
1. Went back to Nicosia a few decades later and possibly worked in the Dragoman’s office. Probably was still called back to Constantinople every now and then to be lectured about his rebellious attitude. (There were 28 bloody uprisings against the Ottomans between 1572 and 1668. All of them ended terribly for the Cypriots.)
6. Brought to England in 1878 after the signing of the Cyprus Convention, and lived/studied in Oxford. (Human age: early 20s.)
3. Served as a muleteer in the Macedonian Front in WW1. Might have stayed in Greece for a few years after the war.
6. Went back to England and studied to become a doctor.
1. Returned to Cyprus around 1930, and probably wandered all over the place for a bit before settling in Nicosia again. (Set the government house on fire in 1931.)
3/7. Served in the Cyprus Regiment in the Greek Campaign and the Western Front in WW2.
(+1. If he was taken as a pow, it would also have landed him in Germany for a bit.)
1. Went back home to Nicosia after the war. (Human age: mid-20s.)
6. Did more studies in London after things went to hell at home in the 1970s.
1. Returned to Nicosia in the early to mid-80s and still living there.
Results: 6 (to 9) countries and at least 13 cities (likely more). Is it any wonder this man feels a bit rootless... if you ask him where home is, he doesn’t know how to answer.

//Random hc(?) times but like... I’ve been chuckling to myself for a while now about how absurdly unlucky Zinon’s history is. Like, this man has some kind of special talent at getting himself in a mess and half the time it’s not even his fault. Half the time it’s like the universe just enjoys screwing with him. (I’m honestly starting to consider if he was cursed at birth or something.) But the other half of the time he does play a part in the mess.
It’s like there are two sides to this man; there’s the patient and smiley gentleman you all know and love... and then there’s the traumatised foster kid that occasionally resurfaces and goes “burn it all.”
On a more serious note, I see Zinon’s personal history as a good example of the African proverb “a child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.” But how much can you blame a person who’s been put through hell and finally snaps.
This is also why I find it amusing when people say Eiki is my angriest muse. Like... Eiki’s anger is a geyser, he blows off every so often with a spectacular show, but at the end of the day his anger is nothing but hot water and steam and completely harmless unless you get too close when he’s on a roll. Then we have Zinon whose anger is like a dam. He’s a master of the art of hiding his true feelings and can keep his temper in check for decades at a time if needed. Usually he’ll only ever open the floodgates in a controlled manner to let off some pressure... but every dam has a limit and if the dam ever bursts or overflows, anyone who stands in his way is quite certainly dead.
