generally speaking, kuro is a bit cautious about entering a relationship. he is a fairly touch-starved, and lonely individual, so he takes any romantic relationship he makes with another quite seriously. the biggest issue is however, that he will outlive most anyone he's with. despite his age ( in main he's about 3k years old ), it has not made it easier for him to manage the grief of losing people. so he's gotta just be ready for it, and find someone that's worth suffering that grief for.

that said, he is very doting, and very affectionate. his partner will always come before himself, their safety and happiness are his priority.

it's important to note that being with someone, gives kuro a new reason to really live-- and enjoy life. in a complicated sort of "im immortal and ive lived so long there's not much joy in living" kind of way. his flavor of nihilism is malleable, and shifts around itself, as he finds things in life that make him happy ( they come and go ). nothing matters-- except this person i've now devoted myself to. idk if i'm explaining it very well, but the point is that kuro is an extremely dedicated, and loyal partner.

yes he loves instant noodles, but kuro is actually a phenomenal cook. and being his partner means he's likely to cook for you any chance he gets.

being morally grey, his range on potential partners is quite varied. and he's at a point in his life where he'd probably be down to kiss monsters too. whatever man. so long as you're not spouting nonsense about ending the world for god- or... doing other shit that's problematic, or not needlessly cruel or over the top, you're good.

fella is actually quite charming when he tries to me. as if his awkwardness doesn't give him a charm all on it's own. he isn't mr suave and perfect, but he knows how to talk, and treat people well...

kuro is not against having casual sex. pleasure is pleasure, and he's actually very capable of separating it from any potential romantic feelings.

i mean at this point in his life? he's vers, and he's a switch. he's willing to try just about anything within reason. tie him up, gag him, smack him around a bit. he does tend to lean more to bottom though, partially due to wanting to let someone else have some kind of control over him??? but he also just prefers it. he can top though, and he can be nice, or mean. again. just ask.

he might come across as awkward honestly, but he adjusts quickly. he isn't out here having sex very often?? or getting frisky with folks a lot??? kuro can go decades with no intimacy and be fine. so sometimes he just needs a moment to get back into it.

he... will usually prioritize his partner's pleasure over his own. a good part of it is due to kuro enjoying being edged. a lot. but he also loves watching them enjoying themselves due to his own efforts? it's satisfying. sometimes he wont even worry about getting off, unless his partner wants that.

his libido comes and goes. it's honestly situational, and there are times when it takes a lot to get him going, or get him off- and times when it's pretty average.

𝐎𝐂𝐂𝐔𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍: currently helps pompom with the astral express, and keeping it clean and tidy. he'll help yang too if he asks, and if the trio really need it, kuro might come along with them on adventures. but after the xianzhou arc, kuro disappears. fleeing to the penacony to get some sort of peace... so...

𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐁𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐘𝐏𝐄: imaginary.

it's hard to say where exactly kuro came from. but it's known that he was once an emanator of yaoshi. a faithful, fervent believer, devoted entirely to the path he was on. no more, the emanator, as far as IPC and the xianzhou alliance was aware-- is either dead or missing. good riddance, kuro's help in spreading and increasing the rate / influence of mara was devastating. a crime, that the alliance still would happily take his head for.

despite having parted from his path, and losing his emanator power and status, kuro is still immortal. a parting gift from them- he had, after all this time, still not suffered the effects of mara himself. wondering one day if karma will finally strike, and infect him with the same madness.

he now resides in his own car on the astral express, along with several cats he's grown incredibly fond of. being a phenomenal cook, and a decent caretaker, kuro helps pompom maintain certain parts of the train. mostly keeping to himself, as even with a haircut, and a change in looks and persona-- he still worries about being found out. and having to face his past head on.

𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐀:

kuro's closest companion is mimi, a calico with a short tail, choppy ears, and one missing eye. she sometimes goes with kuro when he leaves the train, and can be found on the express in random locations.

his weapon as an emanator was a bow, with tree visuals.

kuro loves instant noodles, and convenient foods. spicy foods however do not agree with him at all. really likes sweets.

he is quite nihilistic, and questions the law / authority of aeons often actually. willing to challenge people's beliefs on the efficacy of their paths.

so, i know my carrd is clunky, and messy and bad. so i've decided to make a big masterpost for kuro's hsr au. because as i play it, it is growing, and evolving as i find new things to !!! over. plus i feel it's a bit easier to just have the verse post here on my tumblr anyway where folks can see it easier.

as you know, kuro's home world died.

the planet just could not sustain life anymore, and while it isn't coincidence that yao/shi chose him to be an emanator- it didn't happen until the planet was dead. a husk essentially, for him to implant the power of the abundance within, and bring it back with that alone. making it completely reliant on the aeon, and an ecological horror show of never ending life and growth.

during his time as an emanator, kuro worked to spread the influence of yao/shi to other worlds too. and unfortunately, the xian/zhou was collateral damage to these endeavors. which has earned him not only a bounty, but a permanent ban from any of the xian/zhou alliance ships. the damage he did to them was... comparatively minimal to what he did to the world he was focused on at the time. but it has given him history with certain characters, that is both traumatic, and brief-- enough that it's not necessarily reliant on fine details, for kuro to be a wanted criminal by the xian/zhou and potentially in hot water with the IPC.

the reason he stepped off his path... is unknown. but there's some speculation among those who knew of him. that yao/shi abandoned him perhaps, that he saw the truth of abundance, that it terrified him. the real reason is much too complicated. and he will not discuss it with anyone.

the astral/express & jarlio/VI

kuro didn't immediately join the express, he did wander for a while. it didn't feel right to pick up a new path right away. and despite losing his status as an emanator, he'd maintained his immortality-- though he's yet to suffer the effects of mara, despite his surprisingly long life. only time will tell there.

welt and hi/meko know about kuro's past. and he is accepted a temporary passenger who's job is to help pom pom in keeping the train tidy. though his stay ends up being much longer than any of them anticipated. making a home in a large room of a secondary passenger car. where he has about 6 cats, not including mimi. who he's convinced is hyper intelligent, and has a genuine personality. he gets along with the crew as much as he can. never really putting himself out there, and usually... usually avoiding visitors to the express whenever they come by to see the mc. the only one he will come out to see consistently is ar/genti.

he really wasn't too present for the first arc, but he did leave the train with the other three. and got to see jarlio/VI with mimi. they mostly stayed out of trouble, and sorta just,,, vanished for a bit. found back on the train when it was finished.

the luo/fu, the xian/zhou, and jing/yuan

kuro really does his best to not be a part of this one. his history, as mentioned above, with the xian/zhou is not good. and he has quite the bounty on his head, despite the several of centuries since he last saw the fleet. when he does actually leave to board the luo/fu he wears some extra accessories to disguise himself. but, jing/yuan despite the distraction of the stellaron & phanty/lia... finds him.

it's after this point, that kuro's past and history with yao/shi become entirely public to everyone. and he is almost imprisoned in the shackling prison. something he barely escapes thanks to ?????????????????? then vanishes entirely from the express, along with mimi. hm.

pena/cony, boot/hill & the IPC ( a wip, im playing through it now )

long story short- kuro ends up at the pena/cony. how he gets there is still pretty up in the air. but he does have his own room.

( meaning i will be adding more to this post as i go!!! )

in that span of time however, between the luo/fu and the pena/cony-- he does meet boot/hill. i'm aware his lore is also very unfinished, open, and much of his backstory is really just speculation. but i've got a bit of plotting going, and the two of them are in a bit of an in-between stage at the moment. making the two's meeting entirely possible and,, potentially beneficial to both? also, boot/hill is optimistic, and frankly quite unhinged. where as kuro tends to be nihilistic, and more mellow in comparison. it's a funny sort of interaction, very silly, i love it.

i do wonder if kuro's relationship or opinion of the IPC is also sour. though it's nothing compared to the xian/zhou, kuro's hands are not at all clean. and he's messed up at least one ( smaller ) planet in the past so, hm.

BIG potential for kuro to become a galaxy ranger as end game :)

hsr verse notes... ( i love space u guys )

kuro was once an emanator of yaoshi. incredibly devout, and loyal to the aeon, he did whatever they wished. for a long it didn't matter what it was; there was nothing more important to him than his faith. and the suffocating love and adoration the aeon gave him in turn. unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. and koru would soon enough realize-- that even love can be cruel.

as the realization of what the long life species had to look forward to came to light- kuro began to doubt. as wondrous as immortality seems, the mara was a fate worse than death. eventually he did abandon his path. he would lose his status as an emanator, and slowly transform into a shadow of his former self. left unfortunately with the same gift of immortality that many long life species suffer from. though despite his age, he has yet to suffer the effects of mara. whether or not that is in his future has yet to be seen...

he now lives on the astral express, in his own little car-- with a dozen or so cats he has picked up along the way. kuro takes this time to ponder the true purpose of aeons, and expresses his distrust in them without shame.

he is very neutral, and tries to stay out of conflicts.

kuro tries to keep a low profile. his hair is shorter than it used to be, and he covers part of his face with it now. but he is quite anxious about anyone recognizing him.

his cats mean literally everything to him...

not so great with melee weapons, kuro is incredibly skilled with anything ranged. his accuracy is phenomenal, and deadly in equal parts.

ar.genti and kuro are... actually quite similar in a lot of ways. though time, and perspective has certainly changed him. and as kuro speaks to them more, and gains a better understanding of their character, the more he realizes that. i feel there is a mutual understanding between them. kuro's nihilistic nature is taken rather wall by ar.genti, while kuro admires the devotion they have in their path & beliefs. despite his occasional push to challenge those principles ar.genti built for themself. it has on more than one occasion led to lengthy discussions. pondering over the efficacy of the path the knight currently walks. and in a very strange way, has made kuro sometimes reconsider how he ought to think of past relationship with his aeon.

kuro's cat mimi really likes ar.genti. she has been on their side almost from the moment she'd met them. which has definitely helped kuro warm up to the knight much easier. it's also led them to finding a mutual appreciation for cats. sometimes when the two are talking, mimi will sit with ar.genti- not kuro. u - u

after kuro's complicated history comes to light, very little actually changes between them. though they most definitely have context for kuro's extreme nihilism, and doubt when it comes to paths. i know we discussed this a little, but i think ar.genti would be a very good... middle ground for him. because while what kuro did was wrong, and cruel- they would do the same for idrila if they asked. so it's fairly hard for them to judge kuro too harshly. i'm sure... ar.genti understands the gravity of what kuro did-- but like ?? devotion be like that.

unlike in some of his other verses, kuro is not quite so out of practice. he has good aim, and he can get around with a lighter sword if he has to. eventually, i think they would build up enough rapport for kuro to accept a duel from ar.genti. which would get kuro back into the swing of things. plus? it's fun?? he was honestly not the best the first time they did-- but he improves over time.

( bonus ) whenever ar.genti calls kuro beautiful, kuro always says it back.

𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐓𝐒 / knghted

dislyte verse

he's much the same as he appears in most verses. very tall, with a head of short, messy dark hair. except he's got two cat ears, and a split pair of tails with ghostly flames at the end, pronounced canines, and slitted pupils.

kuro gets his ability from the nekomata. a malevolent yokai from japanese folklore. these spirits have a wide array of magical abilities, and are feared for the great evils they commit on man-kind. much like the nekomata, kuro is effectively immortal, and capable of resurrecting / recovering from fatal injuries within minutes. on top of this he can also use a 'ghost flame' and, according to some witnesses, is capable of necromancy vis this strange fire. as well as possible shapeshifting, and dream walking. but those last two are just rumors. ( nekomata have insane abilities lol )

he was very faithful to the shadow decree for a time? but that was mostly due to them validating his appearance, and giving him purpose. it was nice having a place where he felt like he belonged. of course, they fed into the idea his abilities and the immortality he had was a gift. something to be used. and they used it. a lot. until kuro caught on, felt a whole lot of guilt, and vanished.

ofc, SD wouldn't just let someone leave. so kuro cut his hair, changed his appearance as best he could. hiding around a lot of the abandoned homes in grandis, despite the danger that comes with areas infested by miramon. he is by definition, a wanderer now- but does extend his help to those within the esper union. especially when he sees they're going toe to toe against the shadow decree.

he's no longer sure on how to feel about his abilities. but uses and relies on them when he has to. not apposed to finding a way to remove them from the world entirely, so things can return to relative normalcy. though... that is unlikely to happen.

he can talk to cats, and uses them to get information. it's nice having so many extra pairs of eyes to keep himself out of trouble.

the idea of officially joining the esper union has crossed his mind. but he is very afraid of being caught again by the shadow decree, and isn't sure they'd even take him. considering his history.

kuro developing a sense of carelessness due to his immortality. he dislikes pain, but it is a short blip in his life- and getting done what he needs to kind of comes first in many cases. it can be so jarring to see kuro handling danger or risk, because he really just doesnt care. he will get hurt, fatally injured, ect ect. but he will always recover from it. fighting him can be a pain, because whether hes rusty or not the combination of no risk really with his age and experience is,,,,

also to consider: loved ones seeing or knowing this and convincing him to be more careful. because even if he cant die? seeing him hurt?? sucks.

and giving it thought; compared to what dan/feng did? what kuro is guilty of is leagues worse, and-- still his crime to be held accountable for. dan/feng, and dan/heng are two different characters. the game makes that very clear, pushing the idea that rebirth is more than just a do-over. he wasn't forgiven, dan/heng was just released from the crimes of someone who shared his face. a past life that he pushes people to separate from who he is.

kuro though, is still kuro.

he's at least 1000 years old, and continues to run from the things he's done. the guilt, and understanding that what he did was wrong, and that he hurt a lot of people? is nice?? but it doesn't change anything. no one within the xian/zhou should ever forgive him for what he's done. there is irreversible, permanent damage out there because of him. worlds that are lost to the path of abundance.

and honestly, kuro really can't even forgive himself. no one hates him more than he hates himself. he's such a mess, a mixed bag of contradictions, hypocrisy, and regret. he runs from his past but he can't get away, or forget. but he pretends like he has any kind of room to offer advice or help. messy messy messy... he really misses being ignorant and faithful to yao/shi sometimes.

okay, so having finished the luo/fu arc's major questline---

kuro as an emanator... would have been very powerful. i mean i knew this, but now that i've seen what an emanator is capable of, it makes me think that what he may of done was- quite awful. abundance is not the preservation of life, but it's very much so the eternal propagation of it. welt put it perfectly tbh; talking about the destruction of entire ecosystems if the abundance / yao/shi was able to influence a planet entirely. it is horror of its own caliber, to live forever.

that said? i really really think most- if not all the luo/fu cast, would either despise or at the very least, distrust kuro immensely. he'd also be banned from the ships okay, like he's been MIA for AGES but... dude will be perma banned forever.

even if he is a shell of his former self. there is also the fact he has immortality, and to add salt to the wound, it is immortality separated from the nightmare that the long life species suffer from. ( oh my god dan shu's quest was so SAD- SOBS ) he doesn't blame them of course, he can look back on his past actions, and the events in the luo/fu,,, and see that he was actually the villain for a reason.

given all that, i think a run in with either another path, another aeon / emanator of another aeon??? might of been what snapped kuro out of it. i think kuro was deranged enough in his devotion back then, to be blind to the idea that life without death is torture. honestly figuring out what the trigger was for his change is really difficult to settle on. but he struggles to really speak of it anyway? it's difficult, and he's struggling a lot with moving past it.

kuro's immortality is efficient, and his regenerative ability is quick. it's kind of funny to me that his fc in this comic actually heals in the same way kuro does? it will allow him to fix broken bones within moments, and regrow entire portions of his body. so long as the immortality given to him is still in effect, kuro will come back. there are just particular injuries, and states of being that take a bit longer for him to full recover from. for example: freezing takes a bit longer, but even that he can eventually come back from entirely. as his body regenerates the dead / frozen parts. the one big thing he worries about most however is drowning.

kuro does have scars, which... you'd think wouldn't be possible. but it is partially due to the nature of his immortality. you see, the injuries were self inflicted, and as a result they healed into deep lasting scars. a reminder that no matter how hard he tries, he really can't escape the immortality given to him. he tried twice, but hasn't made any attempts since then.

okay so, hear me out okay? because i was struck with a vision of kuro taking chihiro in and... actually adopting her. the circumstances could vary greatly tbh, and could be anything we like. but despite how incapable he may seem, kuro would actually make a great parent. we'd also had a brief conversation about chihiro giving kuro light to his life again. and you know me kaya i am so insane about those familial bonds. i will be coming to your dms to work this out but... i think whatever verse this were to take place in would also play a very big part in how kuro finds her.

i also love the idea of chihiro almost be an opposite to kuro? she's so bubbly and cheerful and curious about everything. and kuro, while he can be fairly silly, is very mellow and has lost a lot of love and interest in the world. having someone so little and still so full of wonder for the world in his life??? it's bound to rub off on him, and give him some things to enjoy again in life.

of course, being a part of kuro's life means you get mimi. who absolutely adores chihiro, and lets her do whatever she likes to her. mimi is an astonishingly patient cat and is very good with kids. actually, i think all the strays kuro cares for warm up to her very fast. chihiro calling kuro the cat king at least once

chi asks questions, and kuro seems to always have an answer. he's got hundreds upon hundreds of years of knowledge. not on everything mind you, but it is a lot and it probably seems like kuro knows everything sometimes. though as she asks for help on homework, she does slowly find gaps in his knowledge. u - u

bonus: teaching her how to play certain instruments? kuro had lost a lot of motivation for it, but he can play quite a few. in particular, he is very good with stringed instruments. not sure he'd prompt her learning himself, but if chihiro asked he'd offer to teach her himself.

bonus: cleaning himself up. his apartment. his life. kuro may even try to get a more steady job and an income he can rely on. getting a better place, something that can comfortably fit himself and a child.

𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐓𝐒 /

so, i have a couple ships going on and i think it's important to mention; kuro really doesn't say "i love you". it isn't because he doesn't like to, or because he can't. he just doesn't feel like he needs to say it. because in most cases, he uses action and more physical forms to say it instead. i don't think him using those words is really a huge deal either for him. it's just??? words. when cooking for someone he loves, or maybe defending them, or doing small intimate things-- mean a lot more.

kuro / dis.lyte specific notes

he is extremely cat coded. outwardly, he's got ears, two tails tipped with a special ghostflame, claws, canines, and claws. but he also purrs when he's extremely comfortable, or content. sitting in direct sunlight for long enough makes him very sleepy-- and he... he sleeps a lot. there is also slow blinking at folks he's comfortable around or likes, enjoying small spaces, and on very rare occasion... bunting.

his body runs pretty hot. his ghostfire only burns what he wants it to burn but it's still warm, hot to touch. so his base temp would probably make a doctor kind of... ??

he is terrified of anesidora.

though kuro can eat and drink almost anything. he does have a primarily carnivorous diet, and not eating enough meat can lead to him feeling unwell.

after some time kuro does leave the shadow.decree, and joins the union. there's a pretty big gap there, where kuro was essentially homeless. though he did live in abandoned homes near miramon infested areas.

when he goes to the academy, he is accompanied by a small cat stuffed animal given to him by @paramythas's xun.

catnip? i feel? might have some mildly doping effects on kuro. he has a lot of senses similar to a cat. so it would make sense...

he has the ability to speak to cats of any kind. he usually talks to the strays and any house cats he might come across. asking them for help, or to keep an eye out for things, or people. sometimes he might ask them to get something for him though.

instead of kuro's old deity being a child of vivian, i'm going to make it vivian herself instead. she is an unfathomable entity, an eldritch god who is beyond the reaches of time and space. who rots the very fabric of reality, and feeds off of the entropic run off caused by mass universal change. she has been around for as long as there have been stars in space-- an infant at reality's conception.

vivian likes to go to various universes, and instigate change herself. instead of hunting for her next meal. it's kuro's universe that she unfortunately had seeded herself firmly. twisting into his culture and lifestyle. she presented herself as a neutrally aligned god. kuro's trust and faith was easily won, as she struck him at a time of emotional weakness.
