riddler relates to batman in many ways: they're both obsessive, they both have a certain kind of loneliness, both are incredibly smart. batman truly is his intellectual equal, the only one who can understand him, but there's a part of eddie that wants to prove that he's the best and brightest while simultaneously wanting to impress him, to finally earn recognition from his peers and BE SEEN as the genius that he is.

to have that come from batman would mean a lot more than what some people believe, he's the one person who can challenge eddie and push him to be better at his craft.

crime has never been about the money or violence, it's about the art of it, the thrill of it, it's ultimately about the game between the two of them.

people often forget that eddie is one of the generally mentally ill rogues, he's not a cool guy show no emotions types, in fact hes very emotionally unstable. He will yell and scream, he'll flat out cry and be dramatic about it too.

riddler is one of the few rogues that benefited from reforming and becoming an anti hero, he didn't reform out of popularity but because of the writer's genuinly had a story to tell and my god was it a good one

I think the Arkham games tricked people into thinking Eddie isn't smart, the thing about him in the comics is he is the smartest man in the room, however, it's his compulsions to tell the truth is what undermines him and causes him to self sabotage.

He's literally holding himself back, it has been stated multiple times that he can beat Batman if he leaves out the clues but he can't even if he wanted to. His year of the villain comic was literally about this, Lex didn't give him a "gift" like everyone else because Eddie has everything he needs, he just needs to get out of his own way.

where riddlebat fails and where batcat doesn't; eddie will possibly get someone killed desperately trying to get attention from bats and that lack of value for other people's lives is the biggest turn-off. edward is endangering people in the most selfish way possible simply for his "game."

I make fun of it so much because how desperate eddie is for bruce's attention but his refusal to do the right thing is where he fails, he isn't out here to help a cause or to help people hes only here for himself and bruce wouldn't love someone like that

one of the reasons I prefer when they don't try to make eddie edgy for the sake of being edgy is that hes one of the few rogues they don't demonize his mental illness completely, he has been a character who has been generally ill since the 60s and one of the few that shows how bruce doesn't beat on poor mentally ill people like Twitter wants you to believe

people try to make eddie more edgy and dark so he will be taken seriously because they think a green suit man who speaks in riddles is silly (which he is) but not a guy who dresses like a bat fist fighting an insane birthday clown

people with ocd compulsively clean because they are afraid to get sick, not every case is like that, in riddler case he compulsively tells the truth because he is afraid of being punished for lying and has to admit to his guilt he does so with puzzles and riddles because that's his only source of comfort growing up in that house, they become his way of dealing with his repetitive and stressing thoughts and they slowly became apart of his uncontrollable urges
