Since M.O.N.T have officially debuted, I’ve decided to make an updated guide! (Check out my older guide here and see how they once lived as a group of country memes).

Who are M.O.N.T?

M.O.N.T (Members Of the National Team) (몬트) are a 3-member boy group who have had a growing international fanbase (MINT) for years before they finally debuted on the 4th of January 2019. They debuted with the album “Going Up” and the title song “Will You Be My Girlfriend?” (사귈래말래).

The album includes 9 songs (3 of which are instrumentals) and one of these songs is entirely in English, sung by members Bitsaeon and Narachan. More (probably too much) info on MONT under the cut :)

M.O.N.T have partaken in various pre-debut activities where you may have seen them. They appeared on the YG show Mixnine in 2017 where all members received praise from Yang Hyun Suk. At the start of the show Narachan achieved rank 20, and later was eliminated on rank 33. Roda and Bitsaeon were eliminated on ranks 57 and 58 respectively. I recommend watching the part of the first episode of Mixnine which is dedicated purely to FM Entertainment (MONT’s company) and MONT; as they were seen as the country-bumpkin-underdogs with strange fashion and lacking dance skills, yet they wowed the judges with their performance of “That Girl” by Jung Yonghwa.

M.O.N.T have also performed in many countries pre-debut, including being the first K-Pop group to hold a concert in Israel. Other countries they have held concerts in include Brazil, Poland and India. They also planned a tour of North America multiple times and more overseas concerts but sadly FM Ent. was scammed by concert organisers, causing them to cancel.

You might be sad to hear that MONT have moved from their farm-style home on Ganghwado Island to an apartment in Seoul, where they have decreased their number of dogs to one (his name is Pudding) and no longer do live videos where they wash their clothes in buckets and hang it on trees (they didn’t own a washing machine) or do their dishes outside like they’re on school camp (…or a dishwasher). But there is one thing you can be sure will never change. These boys are utter memes.

… I think it’s safe to say MONT will never change!

Left: Roda - 98 Liner, Maknae, Rapper/Producer. Super talented producer who aspires to be like Zico! (Note: All of MONT are obsessed with Zico and BIGBANG… they really love BIGBANG). Check out a track here that he made in 2017 (make sure to read the lyrics). Roda also has the best floofy morning hair ever.. I’ll leave you to discover that in the depths of their Instagram. He may seem kinda slow and shy at first but trust me, this guy is just as wacky as the others (or maybe even weirder..?).

Middle: Bitsaeon - 95 Liner, Main Vocal. Has an incredible voice and ability to reach high notes. This is still one of my favourite covers which is criminally underrated. He also likes to sing songs in the native language of the country they’re in, so he sang a song in Hebrew at their Israel concert and in Polish at their Poland concert. Honestly Bitsaeon’s an excitable sweetheart who seems like he wouldn’t hurt a fly, and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with his personality fast!

Right: Narachan - 96 Liner, Leader, Lead Vocal… and definitely a mood-maker! Nara’s a goofball (meme) at heart and a charismatic leader. Although he teases his members a lot (you’ll quickly find out they all love to tease each other), you can tell he cares for them a lot. He Also has an amazing voice that holds a unique personal flair which I’m sure you can hear in their debut album. He’s super soft for dogs and loves them so much someone (probably Jina their manager) made this video.

Having only just debuted, many MINT have already been following MONT for nearly 2 years, so there’s so much history to this group. For me, I found Narachan in his FM Ent. group Trophy at the end of 2015, so it’s been a long journey for sure!
